  • 2 Chainz meets with Bad Idea Comics CEO & COO Dinesh Shamdasani, an avid comic book collector. From a "printer's proof" 1986 edition of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to a $1 million dollar copy of the first appearance of Batman in 1939, watch 2 Chainz lose his mind checking out some of the rarest, most expensive comic books in the world.

    People don’t really know how much comics are worth. Nic cage for example is huge into comics and had the first appearance of Superman that got stolen and was able to retrieve and then sold it for over a million

    • @Comicbookyoutubersrock
      @Comicbookyoutubersrock Рік тому +4

      Well people have a pretty solid idea what comics are worth. More or less all comics sell routinely in no reserve auctions. Even big mega grails occasionally. So there’s usually a general price point to go by.

    • @NoCountryforBadMovies
      @NoCountryforBadMovies 11 місяців тому +4

      Totally. I see people trying sell comics that worth $4 for $200 on Facebook marketplace and such. It’s insane.

    • @codsworth9950
      @codsworth9950 11 місяців тому +1

      @@NoCountryforBadMovies Yeah, that’s just ridiculous when that happens because eBay is pretty standard for finding the Fair Market Value of most comics. They could easily just check the recent sale prices on there to get an idea of their collection value, but instead they just want to rip someone off. For every big blue chip collectible key there are at least 3 thousand books out there worth only a dollar.

    He didn’t really explain the grading scale. 2.5 on the detective comics is actually bad, but because there’s so few of that issue in existence, that grade doesn’t really effect the price

      Action comics #1 graded 6.0 has been sold for 3.4 million dollars, amazing fantasy #15 graded 9.6 has been sold for 3.6 million, if someone will ever find an action comics graded 9.6 it would EASILY cost 8+ million dollars

      @@billiondollarbates I can tell you you’re under hitting that estimate. The two highest Action 1’s are both 9.0’s. Those already would sell for around $7 mil to $10 mil now. There is one copy of action comics 1 that exists, owned by “the dentist”, which is still raw but is estimated to be a 9.4-9.6. That book would sell for upwards of $15 mil to $20 mil if it ever comes to market.

Even I know that the story that Stan Lee was motivated to write after a conversation with his wife was Fantastic Four (which predates Spidey unlike what he said). Also, he´s wrong about the original Human Torch, he was an android who had nothing to do with the Fantastic Four. Stan just gave Johnny Storm his name and powers, the comparisons end there. Amazing Fantasy 15 7.5 with better page quality just sold for $125,000. He thinks his 7.0 is worth $300k? lolol There are not a lot of sales of the Captain America 1 recently but I would guess he's giving a value about 2x what it is worth (probably ~$200k, which might be insanely high since a 7.0 just went for $300k). There are 8 graded copies of Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1, 3 of them restored. The last sale was a 3.5 for $28k in 2017. Funny he doesn't count the restored books since his Marvel Comics #1 3.0 copy is a restored comic which destroys the value as much as 90% of the same grade unrestored. His Detective 27 2.5 is very likely to be worth around a million dollars. I looked up the notes and the cover is detached. A 6.0 copy sold for 1.7 million recently.

    He and his buddy bought the Valiant IP for $50k in 2007, long after it had died out.
    He then attempted to revive it and got the movie Bloodshot made (starring Vin Diesel). That's certainly an accomplishment, but it was also widely panned and flopped at the box office. I'd love to know how that career path allowed him to have $15 million to invest in comics, which leads me to assume he was born in to wealth.
    Based on how many details he got wrong I'm thinking he's a casual who just happens to have a lot of money.

    How much is the first Superman comic book worth?

    • @billiondollarbates
      @billiondollarbates Рік тому +4

      His first ever appearance (action comics) has been sold for 3 million, his first ever comic book title (superman) has been recently sold for 5.3 million, making it by far the most expensive comic book in history, as well as one of the most expensive books/manuscript ever

      The 9.4? Raw Action 1 Church just sold for 4,500,000. I pray the buyer will get it slabbed. I wanna see the thing. I've seen the 9.0 at Metropolis and it's a million times nicer in person!

    This guy has no idea the "Real" value of the comics, his prices are WAY to high .... I guess it makes him feel important....

      I'd prefer to see LESS of him. Watch Comic Tropes, Swaggelhaus, etc. Much better people with VAST KNOWLEDGE of the hobby.

      It's a 2.5/10 graded book. That's pretty rough condition. No way it's bringing that much. The one that sold for a million a few years ago was a 7.0, I think.

      @@nomiconsThe 7.0 sold for 1.5 mil, a 6.0 has since then sold for about $1.8 mil. I agree a 2.5 likely isn’t a mil though, but wouldn’t be far off. I’d think a nice presenting 2.5 would go for around $600K-$800K.

      They're all dropping a little lately. The keys a little, the semis and below a lot. A 2.5 may fetch 300k. It's a ROUGH book.

    Detective Comics #27 with a grade of 2.5 isn’t worth a million dollars. It’s unquestionably a goldmine and is the second most desired comic in the world (only behind Action Comics #1), but $1 million is overpriced.
