I once spent a summer at my Grandparents house in Montana when I was 17 or so. I spent my time taking care of my Grandpa's tree, garden and horses, moved irrigation pipe and anything else he needed. My room was in the basement, and each night when I was reading, there were no smartphones in those days, I would hear conversation in the room above me each night. I couldn't understand any of the words, but I heard regular talking, crying, laughing, and more. I knew it was my Great Grandpa's room, who lived with my Grandparents at the time. I just assumed one or both of them were in the room talking with him each night. It was a couple of weeks until I realized My Great Grandpa was praying each night at about that time. I've always admired and wondered about my GG's relationship with God and Jesus that he would pour his heart out like that. I am so thankful for that example.
As I grow older, the grace of God and his Son, Jesus Christ is more and more expansive than I thought possible previously. Their arms are forever reaching out to me, even as I am not perfect. God's plan provides us every opportunity to repent and come to him. If there is anything not right in our lives, we shouldn't look at with shame or hesitate to take the necessary steps to repent, but run to it, run into the arms of Jesus. In a world of so much uncertainty, I know he is there to heal me of all my wounds, not just my sins, and yet I find myself hesitating at times still, and surrounded by ever increasing demands of the world. It reminds me that the prophets are truly prophetic in pleading with us to simplify our lives and focus on the Savior and our families.
