5min to 2hrs might be for normal hard drives or SSHHD ones. If it's a solid state hard drive, it probably does the rebuild significantly faster than the generic time frame given.

I owned a few variations of the PS3.
the slim would take about 8 to 12 hours to DOA format, while the rebuild database was always less then 20 seconds.
I owned 2 super slims and the first would do complete format in under 10 mins, 500gb btw and rebuild also a few seconds. while the second one would format 500gb drive in under 5min but rebuild database would take about 10 to 20 minutes. tried these all with content and cleaned HDs and multiple times.
I honestly can't figure out why the massive differences. all I can guess is that it's maybe the quality of the hardware used, maybe some models have not the greatest ram or GPUs etc. anyway just wanted to drop that.

I know this vid was 3 years ago, i might clear up the concerns of some who might come to this vid later. I did exactly what the video was told with my ps4 pro, i have it for 7 years now and this is the first time i defrag it, and after that its smooth as butter, hiccups are gone, fast as day one.
No game saves nor data was gone.

@@hulktatt you need to clean the fan and cooling radiator on your ps4. it gets clogged and the fan has to constantly run due to the heat being unable to dissapate.

If you have the cuh-7000, 7015b, 7016b models of the pro it being loud is actually pretty normal it can get as loud as 55dbs clean fans or not, thermal paste isn't so much a problem on consoles either, but if you have the cuh-7200 models the one with the different power cable they are quieter if that's being loud maybe a clean is needed or a new location, alot of people changed thermal paste on the older models thinking it was getting too hot but it was just the model itself you'll know if it's too hot you'll get a blue screen telling you so if not it's running within it's safe parameters same with xbox they are designed with the sole purpose of gaming heat long hours and all that
I do this to my PS4 Pro once a month. Gives back that nice refresh, snappy and reorganized feel like when you bought it brand new.

My PS4 sounds like a freaking jet sometimes. Hoping this will help with the lag I continuously get these days.
@@jasont5031 If it is sounding like a jet it is most likely the heat sink and fan are plugged up and your ps is overheating so the fan has to run full speed. My daughters ps4 would sound like that after running for awhile and it was pretty annoying. I pulled it apart and the heat sink was so clogged there was almost no air flow. Cleaned the heat sink and fan and it now runs smoother and runs quiet.

I'm having similar problems but my wifi sucks so I thought maybe the wifi was the problem

I actually did this earlier today. I started playing Shadow of The Tomb Raider and noticed it was frame skipping... So I rebuilt the database and it has fixed it. It definitely helps if your PS4 is starting to lag.

I will try. I think this is maybe related to indexing things in the hard drive. When we delete a game it’s not really deleted. It’s still there until that section of the HD is used again. So, it’s like defragmenting and indexing the thing again. I am thinking it may need to have some free space to actually work.
@@decemberraider308 It could have just been a corrupted save, because it was the only game that was doing it. Rebuilding the database definitely fixed it for me.

Most definitely like I said n I've had it for about 4 years since the 500gb slim was released/uncharted 4 bundle. It cleared up almost 100gb of crap off of it and the load times seem much quicker even download times it seems. If you paired this process with a solid state drive on a ps4pro you could have much faster load times

Just be warned, all your folders will be erased but not your games, so if you had them all organised you will probably have to redo your folders again. Then some of the games you forgot about will automatically install updates, which is a bonus in a way, but can take a long time if you have a lot of games on an external hard drive like myself

@Eliseo Hernandez all the files that were corrupted or unneeded got deleted. When I would browse through the home screen and store the menus were really laggy and it fixed that.

@@MrRottenikken this is probably a bit helpful if you do it once in a while. But to make it better you must swap out the old thermal paste on the cpu/heatsink with liquid metal. This is only safe if you have the ps4 pro, if you have the regular ps4 just swap out the old thermal paste with new thermal paste. This will make the heat out of your ps4 better and your console will be cooler and make less noise. Just check out UA-cam videos for the content and how to do it. I have liquid metal in my ps4 pro heatsink and it's very quiet and increases the lifespan👍
