Loved the video. I recently purchased a 1982 R65 with 20,000 miles...I cringed when I heard your remark about having a low mileage Airhead versus the higher mileage one. I do find the fork too soft and mushy and know for certain, I must tear it down and check it out. Thank you very much for the video, very timely and very helpful. Take good care and all the best for 2020!
I love all of your Airhead videos. If I were closer, I'd work in your shop for free just to gain the knowledge to better maintain my '82 R100RT (45K mi.) and my '88 R100RS (25K mi)
Another great video Chris. I love the Eureka moment at the end. You could probably do a series just on airhead forks. I've got a '77 /7 that continues to leak oil from the top right fork, despite me re-building it twice. I am stymied and hope you get a chance to show the rebuild on this series sometime.
Chris thanks man - fun video and the cussing makes it highly amusing ! will keep looking for your vids haha have an 84 R65Ls and starting ...tentatively to begin working on her
Hi Chris, Very entertaining and informative too! For a shade tree doing this at home, I have a few nice vises, almost as nice as that Wilton you have! Is that some kind of special fork holder chucked up in your vise to hold the fork tubes? I see you have an Ultrasound cleaner, what brand is that one and would you recommend it? I'd like one to do my carbs in. Great Fork videos!
Hi Chris....thankyou for all the invaluable videos, I'm going to change my springs to lower the bike by 20mm , do you have any videos on how to change the springs front and rear please?
Thanks for another helpful video. Do you have experience with SKF fork seals? They are touted as the best by the dirt rider community, but I'm unsure if SKF makes them for the old airheads or other vintage bikes. The SKF website is not very enlightening in this regard.
Hi Chris, Yeah the US cleaner thing scares me. Looks like you've been there and done that! What brand is yours? I am thinking I may be able to rig up a strap wrench for the stanchion holder.
Hi Chris, I didn't see a video for this so hope its ok to ask here. I'm rebuilding the Showa forks off a 1995 K75. I got confused by the manual so I'm trying to figure out the order of things. Is it that I put the bushing on the stanchion, then put the stanchion into the slider, then the bushing that fits into the slider cup? I put the bushings in their respective places before putting the stanchion in and am concerned I had the wrong order and its going to mess up the new bushings I've got. Thank you.
Hi Les, You are here in the US so go to E Bay and look for ultra-sonic cleaners. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM the seller 'The Shining Image' - Complete scumbags. E-mail me and I'll be happy to provide the entire e-mail records of the transactions with these bottom-feeding scumbags. As for the fork tube holder - Not cheap but handy. Made by 'Jims' and around $110 !!
Yet another video from Mr. Harris which saved the day. Thank you very much, sir.

Fantastic Chris. At least I know what I'll be doing after work today.

Thanks. The required parts are to arrive later this week so I am anticipating the reassembly video to be filmed this Thursday.

What size is original springs dia? I have 27mm springs in tubes. But I got 32mm dia what I ordered for BMW R65 1985 model. I am lost in diameters :)
is replacing fork seals in my 83 r100rt also as simple as taking a wheel and just by removing sleeves
Your 1983 R100RT is very similar to this R65 Timmy.
Just got this spacer at BOBs Bmw 15$ in stock
It has no name... wasn't that a really bad song from the 70's?!
