But it's an open secret that it's wholly controlled by Lion Air. The Malaysian company is just a proxy/puppet

Ugh. It drives me nuts when there’s only a few of us up front and the crew just chitty chats among them themselves right in front of us up in the galley, not bothering to walk through a 4 row cabin with more wine or coffee. You’re the best, Josh!
I live in Jakarta as a German national and whenever possible I will fly Malindo to KL or beyond, normally great hard product and also polite soft product in terms of crew and ok snacks for the usually low fares. I had a very serious medical issue a few months ago on the leg CGK to KUL and the crew went to great lengths to make me feel comfortable, moved me to a free business class seat and made medical arrangements for me once we disembarked at KUL. Big thumbs up. Eventhough they have the same planes as Lion Air, the 737-800 or 900ER crew is much more professional and aircraft is better maintained it seems, seats and pitch great.
IIRC Malindo is supposed to be full-service while Lion is a low-cost carrier instead
Malindo and Batik Air are the sane counterpart of their parent, Lion Air
100.00 for 3 1/2 hr flight t is a pretty good deal considering it's business class, Next time just join the crew in their feast and let's get their reaction !!
I thought Malindo was very polished for the price. Planes were new and no frills
I had different experiences with Malindo business class from KUL to DEL, their stewardess quiet proactive and keep checking on me every 40 min. Btw, love to watch your business class review.
Your reviews are always to the point and completely BS free which is refreshing
$100 business class fare is unbelievable really,especially on a 3 hour full service flight. That is totally worth just the seat, which is what the airlines sell, their commodity, so absolutely worth it. now with that said whether you sat there for free or paid $10,000 once you are onboard you should be treated equally. Cabin crew not being proactive is too bad whether you paid $100 or 100 times that. I wonder, were they tired, was it lack of training, are all Malindo crew so un customer service oriented? It would be interesting to see if it happened to be that one crew or whether it's something systemic that needs to be addressed to all their crew members. I bet it was just this crew. Inconsistency of the crew, though, is part of what sets a 5 star airline apart from the rest. When you fly business class do you always get the same great treatment no matter the flight, the flying time, the food or the crew? I think inconsistent service and crew is a big deal, no matter where you go or with whom you fly. 5 star airlines have impeccable consistency in all they do and that includes for a large part the crew. Like I said once onboard it should not matter how much you paid for your ticket. Consistently good services should be the norm.

Thanks Josh. BTW I have always meant to tell you that if you ever want to record your flight experiences on any flight l might be working I would be honored to have you on board. I am a flight attendant in the US. Because of the bad negative views often given US carriers I don't feel comfortable publicly announcing which airline I work for. I work primarily domestic US flights and primarily in the business class cabin and purser position most often. I have no issue letting you know that info Josh if you'd like. And I am serious about coming with me on a flight and I can show you what I do. and yes you can film me. Also, if you have any specifics about my airline or service and why or why not something is the way it is I'll be happy to give you either my opinion or if it happens to be something that we in the US have to do that may not be true in other parts of the world. (if you think glass v plastic pre-departure beverage there is a simple reason Us carriers for the most part use plastic.)

I flew it from Bangkok to Melbourne and really enjoyed it. Vastly better than Scootbiz despite the extra stop.

Crew is not just there to serve the food. What if there’s an emergency landing? A fire? Someone faints or has a heart attack? Flight attendants are here and trained to act in all these eventualities

The airline management should watch this. Airline business is service oriented specially with competitors around. Unless the airline has a monopoly to a destination like the moon.
it was a cheap (not budget) airline tbh if youre complaining about a good service then fly more on premium airlines
They're on cost cutting measure. For flights less than 2 hours, u get only water now. Previously they handed out juice and snackbox.

It is only about 2 hours flight,if there is full passanger there are no time to set the cutleries and food one by one..so maybe it is the SOP,galley based set,then serve it right away..other airlines did the same.. *ps im not malindo crew

2 years back I along with my family had the opportunity to get on Malindo's CGP to KL to DPS flight which was their last operated flight from CGP to KL route and after that they closed the operation of that route. It offered the cheapest fare though we had visited through economy. Food was nice and inflght entertainment was quite ok. But the same thing was existed. The cabin crews were not that much proactive for passenger service except their own activities at the galley.

I love your comment "... invite me for your buffet..." 😊 I understand that the crew also need to eat and definitely sometime or the other, some passengers might end up seeing them eating in the galley. But, not responsive to your fellow passenger for his video/audio issue and not showing in the aisle more than once is not a very nice thing. But again, I would also give them benefit of the doubt that this particular crew might be like that, whereas, the rest may not be all that bad. I have seen less responsive crew in my favorite airlines such as Singapore, and Emirates as well -- but those are admonished by the airline management. Hope Melindo airline has similar views. For a rest of the service being that good, I am sure they can easily fix this one too.
No one is suggesting they can't eat, but all at the same time? It only takes 1 crew to lose a customer. 1 bad crew is 1 too many. Just like with flight deck crew or maintenance crew. Your company is only as good as it's weakest link. If your not service oriented on every flight, then they are in the wrong profession.

Flew on the exact same aircraft (9M-LNS) and on the exact same seat (3A) a few months back.
Paid USD 150 for 2 sectors in business from Jakarta to Singapore via Kuala Lumpur with lounge access.
Seat had a reclining problem but thankfully mine was a half-full flight too so I got to shift. Glad to know that the seat has been fixed in time for your flight!
(fyi, Malindo is a Malaysian carrier, not Indonesian :) )

I fly Malindo a bit out of Perth up to KL and back, let me tell you ya didn't miss out on much with their lounge unless I need a quiet place to work I'll go to a bar in KLIA.
I've found the staff are usually a bit more attentive than you experienced and very friendly.

The cheapest business class I’ve flown was Batik Air CGK-DPS for $150. I wouldn’t put criticism towards cheap fare as long as the service is on par, I’d be happy enough to not being crumpled in budget’s economy. It’s a win win. But I’ve always wondering about Malindo Air, maybe I should try them in the future, I am too much too attached to Qantas.
A £43 economy ticket London to Amsterdam on BA, then offered a £69 upgrade to Club Europe (business class) before checking out online. It was more than double the price to select the same business class ticket first. Still included lounge access and a meal.

I fly them in economy and when seat pitch is concerned, theyre the best after MH and AK, in that order.
Thank you for your review. I have flown them Business Class to Australia and Sri Lanka and I found the crew to be excellent all four times. I think you just hit upon the lazy side of their crew.

i have never travelled on that airline but i have been on ethiopian airlines and fly emirates the service is ok but if your screen is not working like as you mentioned that the man sitting in front of you had a problem....i had to b
wait for over an hour just to get the cabin crew's attention to fix up the screen.but to be honest you paid so less and got a whole lot out which is excellent.
There is a reason why the crew is not so active because there were tons of Indian passengers on the flight that is the reason they are not coming out from the galley .

Malindo is a brilliant airline, I wouldnt hesitate to fly them in Asean region. Business class is good and the economy class isnt so bad either.

Malindo Air=Lion Air=Thai Lion Air. The same airline who had a 737 max crashed, was on EU blacklist before. But I have tried them 4 times which all turned out to be very pleasant!

Btw I love their economy class, It is as good as the one in MAS but yeah the service is more like budget airlines which I dont really mind since the ticket was really cheap! Plus their IFE is quite amazing for a short (or even long) flight.
I'm In BALI right now and I flew here with Malindo air but paid more and travelled economy. It was a surprisingly good flight and very good economy seats with very good legroom. The entertainment was surprisingly good with lots of movies and I watched creed! going back to Malaysia in a few days flying Malindo again and then home to the UK with Emirates. Message me if you wanna meet up!
Your feedback is a good opportunity for Malindo Air to upgrade their service. Attentiveness is a very inexpensive improvement to train.

I chose to fly economy on Malindo Air from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu on Aug 2019 simply for the inflight entertainment. They serve only water for flights less than 3 hrs if I'm not mistaken. They do offer inflight purchases such as snacks but no meals offered. The flight was 1hr 30 mins.

Flying over a thunderstorm is scary as when in the tropics!!!@ At least you had no turbulence though.
No cree present in the cabin after the meal service is normal, I got that many times with Malaysia Airlines and Malindo
