Kerala with a dense population along a 20 km wide 600 km long stretch is one of the most ideal places in the world for a high speed rail. We can only feel sorry for people who do not realise its potential.

You just contradict yourself , in a densely populated area a parallel rail line is not practical and it also has challenges . Best method is to straighten out the existing railway lines and do effectively increase the stress limit of the tracks and we can easily run a high speed network here .
@@mohithmanoj8228 The current line used by goods vehicles, passenger trains, long-distance trains, inspection locomotives etc cannot be used for a high speed rail.high speed lanes cannot be even linked to slower traffic lanes for great risk of mishaps and accidents. High speed rail every where in the world is an exclusive automated, evenly timed system which will not allow any other traffic for sheer efficiency and safety.

This is the first time I've heard someone speak so authoritatively with solid facts to back their points. He's absolutely correct about how we often compare ourselves to China without fully understanding their advancements. I’d wager most people haven’t even watched videos showcasing China's infrastructure.
I had the privilege of experiencing China’s train system firsthand. About 20 years ago, a train ride from Shanghai to Wuxi took around three hours with multiple stops, similar to what we see in India today. Fast forward to now, and the high-speed rail between Shanghai and Wuxi takes just 45 minutes! This transformation saves people significant time. Wuxi, being much more affordable than Shanghai, allows people to live there and commute daily for work.
Moreover, China’s rail infrastructure and stations are so advanced that they outshine many Indian airports. This highlights the importance of visionary planning-thinking 30 to 50 years ahead to benefit future generations. I believe people will start to appreciate this when projects like the six-lane NH66 connecting North and South Kerala are completed. Once you experience world-class infrastructure, there’s no going back.

A friend of mine who works in Asianet News told me that there was a big debate in the studio amongst employees about KRail. Vinu v john and Suresh had no valid points against KRail. Their single agenda was to work against Pinarayi.
There is valid point raised by many to oppose k rail frst of all this krail Is planning to make a different rail path that will divide kerala into two I don't think a state who has suffered two floods will survive a divide .

Lol.. There's a reason why many opposed Krail.. It's in the dpr.. Why no one's raising objection against NH66 or the greenfield highway? It's not about Krail but the way government is trying to implement it.
What Santosh is saying is absolutely right. Its not about K-Rail or Silver Line or anything else. Its about the speed and quickness and comfortable travel that everybody should get in today's world for everybody to reach from one end to other and no excuse for that, it is required, so that more people and youth travel and there is uniform development everywhere. Yes, but as said, those villagers who doesn't want to go anywhere far or has a shop nearby or has an ancestral land (not even earned by themselves) will be the ones who are deadly against and protesting against such things. The only way out is that those who lose land should be compensated very well as per market rate and little more money, but here too Govt. tries to squeeze and give them peanuts. Also the viability and analysis of the hi speed rail has to be studied. Here when jobs and earnings are not there, and with high ticket rates, only percentage of people who have money will travel. So, will the investment be worth. This is the question everybody will ask in Kerala. But unless and until new things come, one cannot judge the profitability or sustainance of the project. Problem in India and kerala is when every development and issue becomes political and is done for personal and party credibility and agenda.
I am from kochi, just look at the state of the container road connecting ernakulam to nh66. Hawkers and icecream stalls all around, max speed capped for bikes to 60km. Roads sshould bemeant for travel only , strictly prohibit sales around highways, no fish, or Hindi hawkers selling their wares, pedestrian crossings only through zebra lanes. Strictly no animal grazing,catch all cows and goats grazing on the medians.. As to speed itcan be incrementally increased by railways , straightening the curves and doubling tracks should be the first priority, rather than laying a single line that would eatup precious land. Some years ago while traveling through boat from Ekm to fortkochi, we could see a high speed hydrofoil boat lying at willingdon island port, it was never put to trial, if that was tested we would have people traveling at average speed above vande that's trains, but our because it wont fill someone's pockets the idea was flushed down the drain, now the munnar seaplane might face the same issue.
Govt gave a very good compensation in the case of national high way. They are ready in this case also. But the shameless political leaders of opposition are playing the game here for electoral benefits and power.
@@thelastgs-pian9965 You observation of most of the things mentioned is right, but then seems you have only seen Kochi and no other parts of the country, because the situation is only just worse elsewhere. Definitely, that in anyway doesn't save Kochi to be good and the authorities and Govt. to be irresponsible from. But then, thats India, unless and until some pockets are filled, nothing will move or be made better in India because the mindset of Indians are such. Hence I would not just blame the Govt. or concerned authorities, simply because people themselves are like that and has corrupt and selfish mind, only worried about themselves and their family, nothing else. Forget worrying, they are even careless about other things. Kerala should have been better, but unfortunately, except for boasting of fake literacy, there is nothing Kerala is better in. And they have only one thing, that is to criticize rest of the country or talk about international countries and waste their time in petty things, than doing something good. So, its only a curse for people to be like that.

Its not about speed, but about connecting Kerala in such a way that business and opportunity is more easily available to everyone. Not everyone will have to move to Kochi or Calicut or Trivandrum for jobs. High speed rail (Which K-rail is not) will economically link places unlike ever before. The benefits are not just high speed.
But the question is valid that at cost? It has to be a balance. Not every project can be canceled in the name of environmental concerns and not every project can be green lit in the name of economic prosperity. The pros and cons have to be evaluated at short, long and very long term effects.

Travelling from London to Manchester takes 2 hours by train (It goes up to 250 km/h). To cover the same distance, it takes 5-6 hours in India.

I live in Munich... And munich to Berlin is same distance as Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod.. Here it will take 4 hours to do this journey. And in kerala even with VB it will take over 8 hours.. And forget about driving takes over 16 hours.. And Germany doesn't even have the fastest of rail networks.. It's faster in Italy and France... Even Spain has really fast connections now... Better not to even talk about China. Thats on another level...
I had once debated with a few of friends back in Kerala over a high speed rail and everyone wanted to protect land owners interests and K rail or silver line is not needed.
Last month, I was in a northern city of Germany and met at least 50 young malayalees... 2 years ago that number would have almost zero... Its a number that's increasing every month...
Without a major change of mindset kerala won't survive for long.
Also remember, money and people coming back from Gulf countries will have a very steep decline soon.
There are flights available from Kannur Airport to trivandrum it takes max 1-1.5 hr

Krail is needed, this could free existing rail lines for more connectivity to other states, which brings in more service related business to Kerala, this is what is needed for educated Kerala society. Also more and business will come in considering the talents could move more freely within the state, will even consider setting up offices in kasargod/ Kollam etc. Also more freight trains could run in this slot and which free up the truck movement within the roads ( Ro Ro ) environmentally friendly. The high speed rail is absolutely essential here in India. Nobody disagrees with that but the problem occurs when a state begins to create this network without the necessary funding . The high speed networks in other countries are developed in hand with the central government not with the provinces. In the case of India the indian Railways should be initializing this process along with the state working in hand to hand.

It is good to have high speed rail(not the semi HSR Silver Line). But the finances of kerala is not good for the job. Kerala can’t afford such an expensive project. Environmental concerns exist too.
Best option is to build on the existing Rail line and work with Indian Railways to improve the speeds.
To all who blindly follows SGK, with all due respect, let me say appreciate his enthusiasm for developments, but to blindly trust kerala govt is stupidity in this scenario since we're already in debt. Besides, K-rail is a state initiative project, whereas a highway is a national initiative project. Hence, the k-rail is not completely funded by central govt. Let the state government fulfil all the requirements of flood affected people beginning from 2018 & afterwards let's talk.!
To top it off, does people really expect cost of high-speed train reasonable? How about maintenance charges? My recent daytrip from Paris to Strasbourg costed 50k up & down (2 people) for a high speed train. Not exaggerating or bluffing, I've travelled in Europe, MiddleEast & Asian countries & frankly do not expect a high speed train for 1000/- Rs. ticket.! If only, our state is open to business we can improve economically & without that development at first, what's the use of being inspired by rail story of Europe building tracks but train during iron age.?! Yes, we need developments but the vision should be executed from scratch..
Also, to add with this view, comparisons with a disciplined nation like China though populated is of no use, likewise a comparison with less populated western & european countries again a moot point.!

I don’t think he will succeed in his life time in seeing a real improvement , but he still continues to try. Only result I see is young people get frustrated and get out of here. It will be feasible in the long run, no doubt about it! No HSR project turned profitable overnight. Do you know China's HSR network, despite all their bragging, is sitting on 900 BILLION of debt?! That's what happens when you chase records instead of being practical. Indian government isn't trying to launch an HSR network that rivals China's length in 10 or 20 years. It may take us 40 or 50 years, so be it! Let's do it phase-by-phase, and based on demand and per capita incomes.
My only issue with Silverline was Kerala govt. was going to use older technology to travel less than 280 kms at a lower cost. Fine, but is that future proof? What if we need to upgrade the trains later in the future to make them up to speed with the Bengaluru to Chennair route which will be 300+ kmph at launch? Silverline's same tracks can be used? Our politicians NEVER think longterm.
In India highest occupancy rate of Vande Bharat is in KERALA. So high speed rail system is very feasible in Kerala.

It is not about the facility, it's about affordability. Reason I believe K rail should not come.
1. This should be a national project with proper standardization, we cannot decide things like this and remake everything when high speed rails are introduced nationwide.
2. Cost of travel and affordability. The k rail is a huge project but is it affordable by the state government, it's a different story for the central government but the state government is in huge debt and is not economically feasible with the state budget.
3. Environment impact study, all the studies on the project is like engineering students project work without and proper studies. No proper studies are conducted till now.
4. Highly corrupt government. This govt has been spending money and wasting money on new bus converting old bus to class room, wasting money on Kerala tour in luxury bus, no proper state development work anywhere. And all interest in just k rail.
5. Is it currently demanded by the public, the requirement of travel from kasarkod to trivandrum is low but even when the requirement is high what we actually need is additional railway lines for parallel travel and more number of trains. The government is not doing that because it is not economical. They say if one more train started from kasarkod to trivandrum it will lead to loss because there are not enough passengers to fill a complete new train. Now we are discussing creating a new railway system with a different gauge than the national gauge, with standalone railway lines, station and everything to increase speed just 40km/hr than vande bharat.
6. People are not too concerned about time. All these can be easily achieved by flights from different districts to districts. But it is very costly now because there are not enough requirements for fast travel. If 10% of this cost can be invested in airports and airlines the same time can be saved. Unlike China US employs this strategy.
7. High speed roadways. An 6 lain or 8 lain road way is the first we need to control traffic and connectivity Kerala with 600 km can easily be covered in lass than 6 hr with this road connectivity and can extend to parallel districts like Idukki palakkad Pathanamthitta etc. it can also be easily connected with interstate highways.
This project is not like creating a statue the cost is huge, very huge.
Let's follow how china built this and do thing step by step. Like first road ways, increase economy, eliminate corruption, plan properly, do feasibility study and then create a high speed rail properly.

High speed transportation is certainly a requirement but for that existing rail network needs to be upgraded. Peoples doubts about K-rail project is still not clarified by the incumbent government and hence the backlash.
We need to build a high speed rail on pillars on top of the existing rails. No need to aquire new land. By the way, give the contract to Chinese. We would have a world-class railway by 2028.
