It's interesting how the Minor Erdtrees throughout the Lands Between look more like the Erdtree, and the Haligtree appears closer to the Scadutree in terms of how they've grown.
I think the Scadutree's appearance is unique. While the Erdtree is straight and the Haligtree bifurcates, the Scadutree has a straight tree with a spiraling tree around it. I wonder if the Scadutree was created from people's resentment as a way to feel like they could lash out at the Erdtree and get the support that Marika wrongfully took from them.
I don't think it's a major letdown by any means, but getting to climb the spiraling part of the Scadutree a la climbing part of the Haligtree's canopy would be really cool. Now, the Scadutree Chalice feels like it got shortchanged. The Scadutree Fragments could have been in the chalice at the very least, and the monolith in front of it feels like it indicates that more was planned for the chalice.
I like the haligtree. I had a tree like that in my yard where the main trunk was struck by lighting when it was young and started to rot, but the trunk kept growing bigger while becoming hollow and it grew a new trunk from the side.
Considering that the Erdtree and the Scadutree are both ancient, the Haligtree being grown from a seed by Miquella alone and after the Shattering is pretty impressive!
While the Shattering might have lasted a long time, the other trees easily have hundreds if not thousands of years on the Haligtree, so it's an impressive feat no matter what. Part of the Haligtree even seems to have broken off from the Scarlet Rot and the absence of Miquella to nourish it, so it might have been quite a bit taller!
@@xaitat The Haligtree is said to have "failed to grow into an Erdtree", so it's safe to assume that they are of the same species. Since the Erdtree released seeds only after Marika shattered the Elden Ring, Miquella could only have grown it after the Shattering.
@@guibiancarelli The fact that a minor Erdtree exists at the Minor Erdtree Church, the site where Marika apparently founded Golden Order Fundamentalism, suggests that the first Erdtree seeds actually predated the Shattering. As such, it is possible that Miquella might have began growing the Haligtree before the Shattering took place.
If Miquella didn't know the Scadutree originally, he might have thought his tree was failing to grow properly... The Erdtree seems to be the exception, not the rule, regarding the species' shape here!
@@guibiancarelli I was about to comment that the Elden Beast arena suggests that the Erdtree is NOT the exception, but actually this still works. These other Erdtrees shown are just other attempts by the greater will to influence and unnaturally change things with the Erdtree when true great trees should be spiraled, two-trunk trees.
It is actually. It’s an object of Faith as described in game. What we truly see in reality is in the shadow land, the Scadutree. When the shattering happened the Erdtree was shattered as well. Destroyed. It caused a great cataclysm in the Lands Between, even the land itself shattered apart. I'm getting more convinced the Erdtree is at least partially illusionary Most of the leaves are in a halo of sorts and the branches above that dont glow like the rest. There are the hints in the game about its lack of bounty, the seeds it shed during the shattering, and possible previous burning. Maybe someone was trying to hide its true state Its still possible that was done by the game devs for performance reasons but the other two trees dont employ the same technique
it is, even looks like it was burned before. Im convinced the erdtree is the center tree/branch of the og great tree. Itd make sense too, like it wasnt the part of the tree that kept the rest of it in good health. The shadowtree is eternally dripping sap despite crumbling too, unlike the erdtree. If you ever played final fantasy 6, think of kefka moving the warring triad out of place, a similar situation to that is how i see it. Just marika plucking out the center of the great tree didnt start an apocalypse, or least not immediately 😂
We can see that the canopy branches are actually made out of wood after Maliketh is defeated, with some branches even falling into Leyndell and the bay near Rykard's Divine Tower. At least one wooden branch can be seen from the Erdtree-Gazing Hill beforehand with the unmodded camera too, and the interior glows gold in the "Mend the Elden Ring" endings, so the Erdtree is probably just bioluminescent.

i love the symbolism of the scadutree. It growing around what seems to be a representation of the erdtree (Straight but leaning) as if its dragging it down, and that drag being visible on the actual erdtree. Its the shadow of the erdtree in more ways than one.
I find the Haligtree to be the the most interesting of them Like, Miquella decided to create his own order and make his own erdtree from scratch, and somehow avoided being branded a heritic; really makes you wonder what happened to his two fingers, I have a really hard time thinking the "Greater Will" would've been ok with that (seeing how Ranni had to go out of her way to murder her own two fingers)
My theory is they just saw him taking the misbegotten under his wing as a convenience so the greater will don't have to deal with them, They also probably seen him as still being weak, weaker than Marika or the Elden Beast perhaps so it didn't feel as a big threat for them yet, There could have been added a new finger reader dialogue at the roundtable hold after you tell her about Miquella's plans or after he breaks his great rune in the realm of shadow, I bet they would then see him as a threat.
The reason why Ranni was not accepted is because she cast away her great rune and her role as empyrean. The Greater Will doesn't care which order will take place. It just need an established order to spread the influence through the Land Between. Miquella still played in the role even though his plan was different and the Haglitree was supposed to replace even the Erdtree, It is ok with the Dung eater order, gold mask order, godwyn order as they are still playing the role that it intended. And Miquella plan may be accepted by Marika and Golden Order too because Marika at the end of her time was doubting the Golden Order she created too. So seeing Miquella having another plan to replace her with better thing was probably not wrong in her eyes. And he accepted all the creatures that the Golden Order casted away so it would also benefit her. His 2 fingers is in the isolated divine tower, same as Malenia and it is dead by the time we defeat Malenia to get there.
Gideon remarks that Marika felt sorrow when Miquella was abducted from the Haligtree, so perhaps Marika was actually supporting Miquella's actions, at least until he resorted to his Land of Shadow plans. The line is also intriguing for revealing that Gideon has actually contacted Marika, or perhaps Radagon, or maybe even the Elden Beast. As for Ranni, she might be hated for seemingly going AWOL.
I could do that for a video after adjusting the positions, The Scadutree is pretty tricky to place cause when i tried rotating it the branches became a mess. I'm working my way around that
There was a theory by Kate the Kind that the Golden glowing Erdtree grows on top of a golden meteorite, likely the Elden Beast's. If you look at the Onyx Lord's arena before Rykard's tower there is a meteorite, and if you go to the church above it, grows multiple glowing trees. Additionally, there is a cave full of glowing trees in the DLC, I don't recall where but it had perfumers inside.
Oh i think i know that cave, it leads to the map of Rauh ruins. It's an interesting theory, i might dig more into it in the future if catch more hints like that across the map or the models.
It is possible in theory but there are a lot of hiccups to make that happen, there is also the problem of optimizing the dlc map to the main game map without lag or crashes, but i do see that happening in the modding community after enough times passes.
I doubt the DLC map actually fits onto the existing map cleanly. They would also need to bring all the actors back to record a bunch of new lines about the enormous landmass and tree that just plopped down in the middle of the Lands Between, or else it would feel anticlimactic.
Honestly the tarnish would have to leave The world to seek such a spurn for a fracture world. New game, entirely. The journey for immortality told in these games really intrigues me. Maybe Miquella was about to repair it but repeat his mother's mistakes. Possibly killing the world logic, for its already damaged this far. Not sure if I want to see these realms together. Lol. It would be an interesting story to tell.
Extremely cool series of videos, for how big everything in the game is it's sometimes hard to really appreciate the fullness of it until you see it all from far away. very random question but I'm really curious about the environment around the Wailing Dunes in Caelid, and how they interact with day and night/how the phase transition in the Radahn fight works. The Dunes seem to have that reddish hue at night (?) that the rest of Caelid does. Possible that it's just because it was ground zero, but then it disappears when the Dark Moon and looks like the rest of Caelid's night. Given areas like Enir-Illim and Farum Azula are always at "daytime" regardless of if it's day or night I wondered if the Wailing Dunes had a similar function at least during the Radahn fight, beyond it just being ground zero for the scarlet rot.
Some bosses have skybox and environment changes linked to their phase transition, It usually only effects that certain area the player is standing on, but looking around out of bounds the rest of the map would still be the same as where the player is standing just like how in the divine gate arena Enir Ilim temporarily switches to a darker night time-like atmosphere in Radahn's 2nd phase, Leaving that area with the camera would have all the realm of shadow sharing that color scheme and sky but if you have your character noclip and fly away from that arena the skybox will change and adapt depending on where you're flying to.
@@Kami.Sensei How far do these situational skyboxes extend? For example, does the storm in Morgott's second phase cover all of Leyndell, or does it stop shortly past Marika's Bedchamber?
@@nightscout9979 Ambient effects like violent winds and change of sky color or lighting and so on cover basically the whole loaded map in certain bosses only if you travel with the camera but not your own character, But special effects like the curse in the arena remain limited to the arena itself and don't go beyond that. For example in Bayle's arena the fire around it stay only there but when i traveled with the camera far from the mountain the violent storm and lighting remained on the whole land on shadow and i barely could see through it all.
@@nightscout9979 In that case it won't remain for long, big areas are separated to small pieces with their own respective border, It just depends how big that border is for each area, so to pin point exactly where the storm stops you will have to field test it but it will always disappear when your character get detected surpassing that border and the weather, ambient effects, etc... will adapt to their normal state of said area outside of the boss's influence.
I was going to ask for this after seeing that same Zullie! But I didn't even have to, you had us covered already. Thanks for another interesting dive, Kami! Edit: The Scadutree is my favorite, the entire dlc is so symbolism heavy, and the design is so striking. Erdtree fades into the background, but scadutree is far too imposing to forget about it
I've always found the Haligtree's shape interesting, but not for any possible spiral. To me, it looks like the Haligtree bifurcates, as though the halves represent Miquella and Malenia, emphasizing the nature of the twins. Alternatively, the halves could represent Miquella and St. Trina. It's curious how far down the Scadutree's roots might grow, and the Erdtree looks like it's meant to be even taller and the devs stopped for convenience.
there is definitely something hinted at with both the scadutree and haligtree having double trunks while the erdtree being a single trunk. perhaps something to do with representing the multi-personality beings which they reflect? miquella having a broken half trunk indicating his abandonment of st.trina perhaps? the erdtree standing alone indicating Marikas betrayal and abandonment of her other half the gloam eye queen? the scadutree showing signs of decay and evaporation as the memory of the gloam eyed queen and death itself fade away?
it is pretty large i've increased the FOV so that you can see the whole thing on screen, as for the inside it counts as dungeon version not overworld version so if i moved my character in there it will then load that too and Malenia's boss arena.

@@Kami.Sensei To clarify my previous post, if the player character could walk out of Morgott's boss arena, how far would that storm actually stretch?
@@nightscout9979 In that case it won't remain for long, big areas are separated to small pieces with their own respective border, It just depends how big that border is for each area, so to pin point exactly where the storm stops you will have to field test it but it will always disappear when your character get detected surpassing that border and the weather, ambient effects, etc... will adapt to their normal state of said area outside of the boss's influence.
It reminds me how i hoped before Elden Ring realise that Halig tree was on top of Erd tree like in medieval manuscripts.
I have to say, I like the scadutree most, followed by haligtree.
I've been needing this video for a while now, thank you.
I was going to ask for this after seeing that same Zullie! But I didn't even have to, you had us covered already. Thanks for another interesting dive, Kami!
Edit: The Scadutree is my favorite, the entire dlc is so symbolism heavy, and the design is so striking. Erdtree fades into the background, but scadutree is far too imposing to forget about it
For some reason i wanna see a mod that replaces the Scadutree with the erdtree, or even the other way around
Want to see full map of the Shadow Lands between😢😢
the embrace around the haligtree is beautiful :)
Does the brown part of the erdtree match up perfect with the missing part of the scadutree?
The Scadutree is gorgeous to me, and so interesting, how it still bears sap despite its Erdtree counterpart stopping long ago…
there is definitely something hinted at with both the scadutree and haligtree having double trunks while the erdtree being a single trunk. perhaps something to do with representing the multi-personality beings which they reflect? miquella having a broken half trunk indicating his abandonment of st.trina perhaps? the erdtree standing alone indicating Marikas betrayal and abandonment of her other half the gloam eye queen? the scadutree showing signs of decay and evaporation as the memory of the gloam eyed queen and death itself fade away?
i wonder how long it took that tree to grow and when it was planted
The Mountaintops of the Giants kinda looks like a colossal tree stump that makes the Erdtree look like a dandelion in comparison
These trees are all so magnificent... I think the glorious erdtree is still my favorite.
Fun fact , the Scadutree is directly inspired by the Helixtree in Berzerk :)
How did you manage to get the three of them close to each other?
Did you extract the models or just relocate them?
Haligtree: I gonna be a big-boy-tree one day☺️
Daddy Miquella: Damn gotta go and buy some cigaretts...
The Haligtree is my favorite, because of Miquella is my absolute favorite waifu 🥰
I'd argue the Erdtree isn't fully modeled at the top, since it wouldn't be seen.
Is this the entire Haligtree or just Elphael? I remember the Haligtree being much larger.
it is pretty large i've increased the FOV so that you can see the whole thing on screen, as for the inside it counts as dungeon version not overworld version so if i moved my character in there it will then load that too and Malenia's boss arena.
go to the midde of the main map the cloud there 🎉❤
I kid you not every video I’ve ever watched insists on using Hollow Knight music
