Pagani have really upped their game over the last 12 months. They are producing some great looking watches in good sizes and at competitive prices. They're also homaging some different and really lovely watches. I'm impressed. Nice review Steve. Keep up the good work!
They also now have customer service and free returns in some countries. Much, much better service than San Martin, their customer service is really bad and they don't take responsibility for major manufacturing faults
The movement is what sold me on this watch. I typically go for automatic or hand wind movements but this is a mecaquartz movement from Seiko with I think 3 jewels in the movement. So it should last a long time. The only other quartz movement I have seen jewels in was in a Tag Heuer. So this movement is made to be serviced also 15 seconds a month accuracy is pretty impressive especially for the price point.
I wanted a white compact beater watch and i just pulled the triger on the white 1734 for 40 euros (the lowest i have seen it for some time now for shipping in greece). I think this it is the best watch under 50$ you can buy. I mean a sweeping tmi quartz, st.steel, sapphire, solid bracelet, milled clasp, an interesting dial and good finishing. They are killer deals at that price! Nice review as always.
Just picked one up on sale for $31. They are usually bringing around $55 regular price. I got 2 different colors of them since they were so cheap. I went with the blue and white one. The meteorite texture looks great with those colors.
Just picked up the black one for £27 inc tax and shipping on Aliexpress, came to the UK in about five days. I have had a Tandorio NH35 pilot type watch on the wrist for the past six months... no complaints except having to reset the time every week (about 40 seconds slow), which I find a bit annoying so will probably stick with quartz and could not resist the Pagani at that price. I was a bit put off with the crystal being so tall but in the flesh it gives it an expensive air, along with the glittering gold - possibly an invitation to muggers, figuring it is worth thousands! I am ok with the legibility though as noted it does change depending on the light and how it hits it. I agree, like to see more watches use the VH31 - a titatanium case and bracelet would tempt me! BTW just checked the dial and resistant is spelt correctly!
Since you like the VH31, I recently picked up a Benrus Type 1 homage with a VH31 from the Qimei store on Aliexpress. I wasn't familiar with the Benrus because it's quite rare, it was commissioned by the US army and issued to special forces back in the 60s. An original in good condition can fetch upwards of $10k. Since it was military issue it had a sterile dial which lends itself to being homaged. I think it looks great, it kind of resembles a Submariner, only all business. Like the original it comes with a 12 hour bezel, which lets you measure hours or track another time zone. And it's built like a brick house, 300m claimed water resistance, the crystal distortion is nuts from the thick crystal, and the back seems thick too. Comparing watch head to watch head with my PD-1731, the Qimei is 25 grams heavier at 70.2g. If you're thinking of getting one, (it gets my recommendation) unfortunately I can't post a link or my comment will disappear, so first you'll need to see what a genuine Benrus type 1 looks like because QM offers a few variants, only one is a dead ringer. When you go to the Qimei store it's not listed under quartz, it's listed under dive watches, then you'll have to sort through a bunch of listings to find the right one. Some have the QM logo on the dial but I got the sterile version like the original. The price doesn't change much with sales, maybe $5. I paid $132 CDN for mine, not on sale. In the listing the lume looks quite green, but in person it basically looks white with just a hint of yellow/green when you look a little closer. And the lume is fairly decent, stronger on the hands than the dial, I don't think it would win lume wars but it's good enough to be useful.
Nearly every watch enthusiast in the comment section of the various reviewers criticizes the dark version of the Pagani 1734 - that it looks horrible, desastrous texture, like off-putting OSB, like it has scratches etc - and claim that the other colours were far superior. Guess what - I own them all and have been wearing them for quite some while now on a regular basis. I don't know whether it's because of my skin colour or whether us Germans have a completely different taste on average - but the only version of this watch that recieves compliments CONSTANTLY is this black version on a pure-black leather strap. Sometimes I get the feeling that the taste of watch enthusiasts greatly differs from the average Joe's. Really surprising contrast! Thanks for the review by the way - thinking of getting the 1731, as well :)
I first bought the ice blue shinny dial one, looks like the caribean sea from the airplane on a sunny day. Now I got this yellow one, still waiting for it to arrive. in my opinion it’s just very classy and unique. It is a grand Seiko homage, but GS doesn’t make the glossy yellow dial. Also this dial is cleaner. So for me, it’s a treasure. For the price, it is simply a gift. I really hope the glossy dial looks as I’m imagining it. This watch reminds me also of the Credor eichi ll. So I’m thrilled I found such a beautiful design for almost nothing. I loved that vario strap. And PD, please make a homage of the Eichi ll in its different variants of color. Please.
Hey Steve, great video! Could you see if the bracelet for the Pagani Doxa homage fits this case? They're both 20mm, so, if they fit, that would be awesome
the cream dial on this watch is the same color they put on pd vintage air king or different?? let me know sir coz i already watch ur review about the vintage air king and it was amazing. thank you sir.
My bracelet looks good but does have a little rattle as I wear them with room for wrist expansion. Thanks for putting it on the 1662 GMT bracelet, I've got an extra lying around and might try that at some point now that I know it is possible.
Great review mate, already had the 1731 and its solid, got a 1734 coming too but they made me wait as they said they've updated it and now sell a V2. Is that the one you got, don't recall hearing in the video. Cheers
I reached out to the store to see what they say. Not interested in purchasing it right now as I've got a few watches I e purchased recently and need to build back up my watch funds. Plus I have a few GADA watches already. But I'll see what they say.
I actually bought it, I'd wait for a V2, the movement is just okay, and it didn't come with enough links, so I had to order extras, and the clasp isn't a glidelock. It's a fine watch, a little underwhelming, the quality is what you'd expect from cronos, so it's definitely a buy I don't regret. However, in a V2 if they have a vh31 and a glidelock, amd capped hands, it'd probably be the best purchase available. They did a lot of things right, best explorer homage out there, but with a V2, they'll likely make it perfect. I was able to swap out the clasp for a generic glidelock also available on aliexpress for like 15 bucks.
As i really love these plain dials/3hands, i only wish the typo was "resistNUT", that would be awesome to have on the dial for sure! Joke aside, i'd go for one of these, but having the ET, there no space for one in my "collection". Cheers Steve, be well mate.
I have the 1731 ice blue and I'm very happy with it, it looks amazing. It's a shame they didn't give the 1634 the same minimal text as the 1731, it's basically just a different dial variant of the same watch anyway.
Could you please measure the size of the center link of the bracelet? I would be interested to know if it could fit the end link of another PD watch. Thanks!!
@@EscapeWheel Thank you ! You're the first to review this one actually. I checked and they do say 40mm but the same weight as PD1731 which is not consistent. I actually wanted a black dial 1731 so I'll pull the trigger with your affiliate link during the next sale

Hey Steve, great video! Could you see if the bracelet for the Pagani Doxa homage fits this case? They're both 20mm, so, if they fit, that would be awesome
It's a no-go. 42mm vs 38mm and squared off endlinks vs rounded endlinks.
There's a few options for a BOR bracelet on Ali though, may be worth a shot.
