Well, have they finally done it? Have they released a decent watch that isn;t a 1:1 copy of somethign else? Yes, I think they have. Perhaps a combination of a few different watches, but that's OK by me. Cheers, Jody
I think it's original enough. If it were a U.S. or Euro microbrand, we'd give it a pass when they tell us that "our watch is inspired by the classic chronographs of the past that we love so much." I think it looks nice, and I like that tight lug-to-lug.
So stupid how white people get the pass for everything
Pagani isn't a micro brand. Pagani Design (The name isn't even original) watches are made in a Chinese mega factory to sell to customers who don't know about Chinese product cloning or don't care. This may be more 'original' like you say, but it still comes from a company that operates off the hard work of others in Europe and the U.S.
@@Uniongamersas you're typing from your iPhone lol...
@@Uniongamers they're made in the same contract factories producing microbrands watches
I'm still waiting for the Pagani Eriboss to come out
Pagani is very popular in Indonesia. People really like Pagani homages, it's not without reason that in Indonesia the average salary per person is 300 US dollars for one month, and in some cities it is sometimes less than that. For developing countries like Indonesia, Pagani Design really helps make people feel what it's like to wear a watch, of course at an affordable price. cheap for people in America does not mean cheap for the average person in Indonesia, because our currency is weak. At least homage watches are the answer to the feeling of wearing and owning a watch.
10:59 Absolutely yes. It’s clearly not a copy, for one. And for two, let’s face it, we’re really talking about variations on a theme when we’re talking about design on almost any watch. There are maybe 10% of watches out there, maybe less, that are a truly original ground-up design.
Good point. Same could be said with almost every product in existence too
I agree, most people don't realize that the big brands steal the looks from other brands all the time .
This is finally the Bulova Lunar Pilot downsize we wanted😂❤
This Pagani is dangerous. It's actually pretty nice, and it's not really a copy so I kind of want one
Why are they dangerous? I assume cheap quality and sharp corners that can cut your wrist
@mte1611 it's dangerous because it's the first Pagani that I am considering buying. It's great value for money and looks fantastic. I imagine I won't be the only one tempted to buy their first Pagani
@@MTE1611
No kidding, I own one. Really great watch, but I had to file off a sharp edge from a rivet in the bracelet. You're best off avoiding their steel bracelets.
Agreed. Been tempted by pagani many times but I’m not totally sold on design copies. This is something I really like and could buy and wear with none of the mixed feelings about wearing an homage piece.
@@BennyLlama I'm don't getting it, what's the danger? The price compared to a Casio?
Good on Seestern making the change - makes me think well of them for doing so.
Pagani is starting to use the edit button with the usual copy and paste one. Thank you Jody for the video 👍🏽
I think they’ve given us the Bulova Lunar Pilot, in the case size we wanted. Different colours, yes, but her similar case, pushers, bracelet. I like it.
Came here to say this.
I can’t be the only one who sees this and thinks that this is what the current quartz version of the bulova lunar pilot should be? It’s not far off, just a slight case re-shape, change of pushers, full black dial and you’re pretty much there!
Immediately thought about the Zodiac when I saw it cause I really wanted to get that one at some point but the Tissot one looks waaay more similar dial-wise but the case is definitely more Zodiac like. Honestly it looks great, lovely looking mix of the two :) And that price is just cherry on top.
OK...it's a mixture of Zodiac's case design with Tissot's dial and hands with the chrono pushers being their own contribution, their design if you will. But I like it, it looks way better on a nice strap.
Congratulations to them for trying something different as the dimensions and dial are nice so thanks for sharing Jody.
I’m waiting for mine to arrive, ordered the blue dial with the leather strap. Took a punt as there were no reviews and I’m reassured by your comments!
I just found my next pagani. That thing looks great. I have the daytona, and the speedy look like. The Pagani speedy is the best watch they made so far, but this one looks to be a good contender.
Pagani giving half links was not on my bingo card for 2024. Let’s hope more brands do it especially those with integrated bracelets
That's very cool Jody. So many watches in various categories now that it's hard to design something that doesn't have overtones of others. Great effort Pagani!!
To my eye the case shape and chronograph chapter ring is reminiscent of an Omega chronograph 176.007 from the 1970s. However the chronograph pushers on the Pagani are more like a Bulova. Looks good though and worth considering at the right price.
That explanation by Seestern is hilarious. "We called it original because it was originally produced by us." Well in that case, those Folexes are also originals.
The Japanese used to have massive translation issues a few decades ago, the Chinese are just going through the same process I guess...Chinglish
@@chrispekel5709 was it a translation error or a flimsy excuse?
@@brianmccord7387 it would be a translation issue. I've tried to learn Vietnamese and my Vietnamese girlfriend laughs hysterically at some of the stuff I write. I have no idea why these Chinese companies don't pay someone with knowledge to check over their products, they want to save every single cent they can
@@brianmccord7387 Folexes hahahah
I'm getting Lunar Pilot vibes... at a reasonable price!
It has a kind of Bulova Lunar Pilot vibe to it. More reason for them to release an even smaller version.
Cool design. I'd actually buy this one, It looks just like a C-Shape case Heuer Chronograph from the 70's. So to me it's more of an homage than an original.
else Better than a Seiko at a fraction of the price. Amazing VFM. Definitely original in my opinion, especially as all watches have some sort of resemblance to something else
I'd like to add the Orient Neo 70 as a watch that looks a lot like this Pagani.
At first glance, It reminded me to the blue 43mm. lunar pilot
I got mine for an equivalent of $45, wore it straight for a week, I used to cycle through my collection every day, but this one is really impressive, considering the features you get for its price, I've read that some buyers even got this exact model for around $35.
from where did you get it
Its listed for around 100 USD currently. How’d you fine that deal?
That's about 98% of what I want and don't underestimate the 24 hour dial! After a week or two without the chance of seeing daylight you might need to know if it's midnight or noon and if you have to resync your rtty encryption system (oops am I allowed to talk about that some 30 years later?
)
There's also some similarity to the Bulova Lunar Pilot. But yeah they can get away with saying that it's sort of original I guess
You could play that game at the end with almost every single watch released nowadays. And you’d find lookalikes - across every price point and brand.
Yes, so true. It's just that we ('watch enthusiasts') tend to give the bigger brands a pass and today, look at the Chinese brands with negativity.
Yep Jody, wasn't expecting really good lume, and I wasn't disappointed 😅
If you ever want to time anything, the chronograph subregister is quite unusable, but it is indeed a good looking watch !
Nice find! I love Pagani... but I'd call this one a near homage to the 1970s Certina DS-2 Chronolympic. As I don't have $2K-$4K for the Certina, this looks like a great alternative!
Hmmm… pushers are different, case size is definitely different, even dial arrangement and lack of date window is different… let’s face it, there’s only so much one can try and be original when it comes to chronographs and this is a pretty good effort.
This is an original really :) We are at a stage where most watches take an inspiration from others, this is more original than many watches from big brands.
Its certainly a copy of TISSOT HERITAGE 1973 (T124.427.16.031.01)
The first Pagani Design I actually like. It would look really good on a rally style strap.
This was my first thought ! Black rally strap with white stitching would look perfect
This watch is a stap monster
Jody, I'm encouraged by the semi originality. If/when they launch into more original styles i will definitely key into them much more ... They are fun. Great find and review.
Not all speed masters look like the moon watch. There’s no way they’ve done an original design. It’s gonna be a one for one of something that’s out there and my money is on something from the Omega Speedmaster range late 60s thru 70s.
Apart from the pushers it’s a near exact copy of a Bulova Lunar Pilot. I am wondering if they will ever make anything original.
I'm really liking it but I wish they had an option for a blank dial like steel dive does or maybe just their shield logo.
What a bargain, didn't know I had a "chrono beater" slot in my watchbox, I do now😂
Reminds me of a smaller version of the custom Breitling that Sean Connery used in Thunderball.
The second you unboxed it, I immediately thought of the of the Tissot Heritage 1973
Definite Bulova Lunar Pilot Mini vibes, right down to the chrono pushers.
Great video Jody. Lunar Pilot inspired I’d say but different enough not to be a copy. Pity about the Lume but something’s got to suffer at that price. Great looking watch though. I’ve ordered a blue bracelet version from Amazon £89 approx. Thank you Jody
I was gonna say "Bulova Lunar Pilot"
looks nice, got blue on the way
It's an homage (not a clone) of the Seiko Chronograph SSB425 (similar case shape, same tricompax color combination, same bezel placement), with a bit of the Tissot 1973 colors sprinkled in.
No, not the same case shape.
@@simonredman4805there are differences in homages. It's not a clone.
Seiko has a normal pilot case. This is a classic '70s style cushion case. See for example the Heuer Carrera 1153, or the Seamaster 045.016.
This is lovely! Surprisingly no comparison to bulova lunar pilot? One of my few regrets is my red and white pagani 1701 moon watch, I thought it'd be playful, but it just doesn't tickle me, looks cheesy. The pushers are clunky, the sapphire just isn't that nice. This looks like a better option.
I can see the similarity especially the chrono pushers
@@saevans63 Indeed. It looks so neat and wearable too. The bulova is huge, a real monster. I don't think I'd ever wear it, even though I love the idea of 262khz from a horology perspective.
@@luke.perkin.inventor I have the Bulova. It is a large watch but it does wear well on my wrist.
I’m surprised you didn’t compare it to the Bulova moon watch.
It’s really nice but surely a shrunken Bulova Lunar Pilot? Looks nice and good value though eh?
I... I like it! But the 24 hour subdial shouldn't have an orange hand. The orange accents should be used to differentiate the chronograph functions from the timekeeping functions.
I love the PD1701. Yes, it's a speedy clone, but it's the most accurate watch I have. It even beats my Bulova Lunar Pilot.
Now wait a minute....It beats the Bulova in size, for sure, but the Bulova sweep and the Bulova heritage are something else.
@@P_EziIt’s more accurate than my Lunar Pilot, as hard as that is to believe. That mecha-quartz movement is something else.
As far as everything else goes, the lunar pilot beats it hands down.
But to outperform the Lunar Pilot is saying something.
@@williamthomas6106 That's good to hear. I'm a big fan of old Bulova tuning forks, and I love the idea of the smooth sweep precisionist /UHF/262khz movements as it is at least reminiscent of the tuning fork sweep and accuracy. I just wish the LP had a smooth full time seconds hand and a bit smaller case.
I do like the looks of this Pagani...
This is pretty cool. Chronos with turtley-cushion cases are not too common, are they? My Citizen CA7040 has similar dimensions and feel and I can imagine this one wears great too.
Funny I just ordered this just before this video dropped lol
Is any watch an original design? All watches take design cues from others that have gone before. This is probably the best Pagani so far. It's definitely on my list.
It makes me think of a Bulova lunar pilot in 39.
But quite nice.
Try as I may, I simply cannot bring myself to like any case that reminds me of the Seiko Turtle. I irrationally hate it. That said, it's a beautiful dial and I'm glad Pagani are venturing out past their safe zone. 😎
It's great that seestern can take criticism and react in a positive way super fast. I think the big brands with double down and then go after anyone that did that vs fixing issues.
Are you planning to review the Pagani homage to Longines Zulu Time? Love the design.
Jody, I think the overall design is quite close to Bulova's Lunar Pilot Archive Series, where as the printed dial indices, minute graduation and sub-dials is Tissot 1973. Definitely not an original design in the true sense of the word. But as you said, a great looking watch and value for money!
I have been checking that one out for a few weeks. Was waiting for a good Ali sale. However I may need to save for one of those new Erebus watches.
It’s giving me a lot of the Tissot 1973 Heritage Chronograph but to their credit, they made it different enough that you really can’t call it a clomage. Great looking watch for the price too!
Bulova Lunar Pilot. As soon as you opened the box.
It reminds me of the Omega Cushion Case chronographs of the 70's somewhat. Agree with your choice of colour, black on white always more readable than the darker dials. Nice watch for the money. Great video as always Jody, keep them coming.
I think that looks great, it caught my eye a little while ago but kind of forgot about it. Looks like I'm getting a third Pagani Design Chrono (the vintage patek with a salmon and brown dial, and the white and red moonswatch inspired one)
Btwn this and the pd1761, this is a bit of brilliant “homaging” on Paganis part. They both are effectively the quartz alternatives, with far more appealing dimensions to their automatic counterparts.
I actually really like this one, but as i just bought the Seiko 'Seitona' Speedtimer SSC937P1 in the Gulf colours, i don't need another chronograph.
You can't go wrong with Gulf or Martini colours.
The dial screams TAG Heuer Carrera glassbox, what with the running seconds being a stealthy subdial (it's the panda version of the Skipper)and the tachymeter bezel being inside the crystal. It's almost like the Skipper and the Tissot you showed had a baby.
Pagani Design's new chronograph resembles the vintage Bulova Lunar Pilot, Heuer Carrera, and many others with a tonneau case design. In 2021, a micro brand, Soldat, released Promessa, similar to this PD1782. At least, this PD chronograph is not a 1:1 copy but a true sense of homage inspired by the 1970s chronographs. I ordered one with a rally strap.
Actually love it but very close to Bulova Lunar Pilot,
The face design is nicely executed and balanced 👍
With its dial and pushers, it reminds me the Junghans
1972 Chronoscope quartz...
Kind of midway between a classic Omega Seamaster chrono 176 and a Bulova Lunar Pilot, but I think it is distinctive enough not to be an homage of anything.
I've been pondering one of the pagani RM lookalikes because I don't have anything like it in my collection, but haven't seen many reviews from my trusted channels (probably because they have taste)
Case shape reminds me of a Bulova Oceanographer. Very nice indeed.
I was already in the process of ordering it before the end of the video… I have purchased several from the brand in the past, and one has even made it into my permanent collection. This may be the second! Thanks, Jody!
It's a lovely looking watch, I've just received mine, same watch but on the black leather. Looks awesome, gorgeous charity on the crystal. But it's an oh dear my 1st pagani with a fault, the bottom pusher is out from the case too far leaving a gap, so I'm going to raise a fault with them. Shame as the watch is lovely.
Perfect buy in November during the 11.11 Sale. I really like it but I’m off chronos for a while. Just not making the cut on the wrist time hierarchy. LOL. Great job Jody. Merci!
Maybe Bulova Lunar Pilot
Detroit Mint has been making one of these called the Caretta. Can you do a review comparison on that
Good looking watch, but I just ordered a different chronograph from Pagani, their PD-YS008 with the rose gold case and coffee dial. Oh well, there's always another sale for later, I suppose!
Looks an awful lot like the Lunar Pilot to me
Very nice, I saw Bulova also has a few of these Panda Chrono - case models (The 98K112 Lunar Pilot )
Just pushed the purchase button on this. It's the Luna Pilot mashed up with some other watches. Pagani are making a few more semi original designs at the moment. If they can fix the lume and qc issues and add more original pieces. They could become a viable microbrand.
Nice looking good specs, no date, very affordable watch, if they have drop the pagani brand text retain only the logo, would have considered getting one, and replace the bracelet with a leather strap.
Yes.. I don't understand why they have to do that. It just looks so off. Only that detail keeps me from buying.
For me, the case shape and pushers (excepting the left hand crown) looks most similar to the vintage Autavia re-issue from mid to late 2000’s. Reference CY2111.
And that’s no bad thing, looks great especially at that price.
Good looking watch I must admit. For the price it's a steal.👍
definitely the straps make it a winner
Absolutely love this watch
Has some simularities to the Bulova Lunar Pilot?
I thought this was a homage to the speedmaster mark ii just with rectangular pushers?
Thanks for the video. Very nice looking chrono and not a full blown homage. PD does a great job with chrono homages (and I own enough of them). I own the beautiful Merkur Pierre Paulin panda handwind with clear back so I don't think I'll get this one.
That’s a fine looking watch! Bang for your buck is TOP NOTHCH. 🎉
This is a homage of the lunar pilot no? Just slight different
I've just ordered one of these! I think it's a homage to the Tissot 1973 heritage chronograph.
I still think it’s silly to say “Design” on the watch. It’s like “Porsche Design.” Yes, Porsche, I’m aware that a watch is not a car. Thank you for pointing that out. Just say “Pagani” and get six letters off the dial.
Aren’t the pushers quite similar to the Bulova Lunar Pilot?
Ugh..that Tissot date @ the 430 position. Always a turn off no matter what brand. Good job PD for keeping the dial clean
Looks great for the price.
Not bad - sure the lume is 💩 lol
Almost bought this watch but didn’t due to brand name. Bought a Addisdive AD2037 as cheap, almost a panda dial and sterile dial. Not the same aesthetic and certainly not “original” but will mean I can rest some of my vintage watches and not worry about water or other damage.
Now waiting for its delivery from China to see if I’ve bought a lemon.
How about a review of this watch as UA-cam doesn’t seem to have many.
