I think the ending part is the most depressing. Not even just from lost media, but from remembering all of those music channels that have been deleted over the many years.
@@runman624 DoujinStyle is what you're likely thinking of. It's less the songs themselves, and more the video, the comments, and the vibe from that time are all lost.
8:05 ZUN was asked about "Danmaku Amanojaku Gold Rush" by ThGameGroup in an interview at Reitaisai 16. The interviewer asked ZUN if he would be interested in releasing Gold Rush on steam as Impossible Spell Card's DLC, to which ZUN replied "I will do that afterwards". He said "I have to think about it again" because it will be hard to do event exclusive games again if he publicly releases Gold Rush, but overall he was positive about releasing Gold Rush publicly.
I translated the interview at the time and posted it on reddit, but I may have deleted it because the translation was terrible. Source: "ZUN/例大祭16采访" on thwiki (I can't link it directly because youtube will delete my comment)
Ahh man, as someone who only recently got interested in the series, I can only imagine the experience of going back to look for your favorite 10 yr old fanwork only to find that it doesn't exist anymore. Such is the nature of doujin works I suppose.
I remember that I found a tabula raza arrangement (Ellen's theme), that the video said that it was from 1999 and call it the first Touhou arrangement. I found the video around mid 2010s and most likely give it a like some years later i wanted to listen to it again but looks like the video was deleted and i haven't been able to find the arrangement again.
If you find the song I want to listen to it Especially because if found, it's at least one of the earliest Touhou arranges (and possibly the first if the arranger's claim is true), and would definitely gain a spot in the Touhou fandom history books I'll keep my eyes out for it too
Fanart is definitely the most frequently lost aspect, given how many artist just seem to delete their entire body of work (or just the account) out of nowhere. As much as some artist curse reupload sites, they are the main thing proving/sourcing the artists even existed and for works that didn't get spread much, it might be the only thing that saved it. I was going to comment about about a piece of mostly lost animation, aside from maybe the copy of a few finished gifs I saved. I remember the creator deleted everything off their Instagram before privating, and even changed their online name due to harassment. I forgot their new handle on Twitter, since they posted rarely and was in a fairly dark place mentally last I saw them. While I was searching if the WIP was still on UA-cam, I found they were going by their old handle again and thankfully seems in a ...better frame of mind. Seems they aren't doing animations anymore and they haven't re-uploaded their more completed animation bits (or the other WIP I didn't save) from their old Instagram onto the new one, so it's mostly lost. Maybe someday, since animations of PC 98 battles are rare enough, much less an animation of PC 98 Alice, but at least this digging confirmed they are recovering.
If I'm not wrong, JynX didn't release his PC98 remaxes because ZUN doesn't allow direct remakes of his games, so that would've conflicted with his guidelines.
I'm pretty sure JynX said something about being afraid to ask for ZUN's permission to release them. If this was the case, then that could explain why they'd say that.
Really interesting video, one of the more notable examples of Touhou lost media that has been in my mind rent free for years is the full length Bad Apple PV that adds the characters from Subterranean Animism and a couple of extra Reisen scenes. There's only recordings of it from Alstroemeria Record concerts where flashes of it go by in the background and many people have tried to manually recreate it but the original version was never released. I've always hoped that they'll publicly release it one day!
I don't know where else to say this, even though it's not really lost media because I have the files saved on my computer, but still. There's these two songs from the touhou community that have stuck with me, but that as far as I've searched aren't really available anymore. The first one is a remix of Lunatic Princess used in the background of a Delay Lama video. I was intrigued about it, so I left a comment asking about the remix used. A little bit afterwards, I got a reply with a Mega download link to the song. I saved it, and the next time that I saw that video, both my comment and therefore the reply were gone. When I tried putting the remix on different music search engines, I got no result. It's still safe in my downloaded files, though. But I'm bummed out about not being able to find the original upload. The other one is a remix of Pandemonic Planet in the style of the EoSD OST, uploaded by the channel "iku komurasaki" (I used an MP3 Downloader on this one, so it fortunately also saved the song author), but I cannot find the youtube upload of the song or the channel anymore. I've listened to other remixes of the same song and with the same style, thinking that maybe the video title and channel name were just changed, but they're not the same as the MP3 download. Once again, not really lost; I could probably upload the files to Mega or Google Drive and publish the links to that somewhere, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Edit; If someone has a way to share links in youtube replies without youtube itself automatically getting rid of the comment, please tell me! I've been trying to post a file to a Mega folder with both arranges in the replies of this comment, but my efforts are fruitless!
OH, WAIT, I LOVED THAT ARRANGE OF PANDEMONIC PLANET, could you share it to me? and the channel of iku komurasaki still exists, just it doesn't have anything, its empty
@@rakice_kr3490 Hey! I'm sorry, do you have any other way of contacting you that isn't youtube comments? I've been trying to post the link to a mega folder with both arranges in these replies, but youtube keeps automatically getting rid of it! I'm sincerely sorry for the inconvenience.
Nice video, always good to have these lost stuff widely known! I remember watching a ton of Touhou videos with English(/Spanish) subtitles back in the day, that are nowadays deleted. One lost Touhou video I'd like to see again is the Touhou arrange of the Finnish national anthem "Maamme" (It was a real thing in 2017). Me and my friends did some searching for the original and lost Japanese goblin Suika model, as one of my friends wanted to use it in a video. It was later found that the Suika model was the basic model of the software "Dance x Mixer", used to create the original Japanese goblin. The only difference between the basic model and the Suika model were Suika's horns. It would've been easy to create the model again with DxM, but the software was outdated and didn't work properly on modern OS, tried it. Not to mention, the full version of DxM has been out of sale and is no longer available. This meant the original model was lost for good. As we kept searching, we found out tons of dead links to Touhou models that were used in DxM. All these are lost as well. The only chance of finding the original Suika model is that the original creator shares the character files someday, which is near impossible. Thought to share my story, as "Flan-chan's Music Class" was mentioned :D
A really nice video!, while i knew some things (like the lost seija game, zun's lost music, the lost OVA and JynX's touhou remakes), it felt like a fresh take on all of this, plus, it's always nice to learn about new things and see more people talk about touhou. Muy buen trabajo, espero ver mucho más!
I remember I saw a flipnote animation which had a U. N Owen was her that contained lyrics, I was interested hearing the full version and so I did, it was stuck in my head like it was a banger for me, but years later I eventually forgot about it and decided to search for it again. I couldn't find it, I saved it on a playlist a while back, but it's gone, the video was gone, so I thought to go search the flipnote animation and that was also gone, I was sad that I was no longer able to listen to it, but I didn't give up, that's when I found a lead, I had a screenshot of that same video, I searched the channel, and sadly I think it got deleted. However it doesn't end there, apperently someone reuploaded it, however the difference was that they just added the spanish translation of the lyrics and a watermark of some sorts. So in the end it all ended well for me. :)
for me the person that comes to mind on lost media is syrsa, very talented person, made a lot of songs and few games on his own for more than a decade now, but the most interesting part is that he'd like to completely vanish at some point he probably done it 3-5 times now, like deleting his own accounts and all the works on them have gone as well, luckily he has a dedicated community to archive them and they're still doing it, but since he could just delete his accounts and vanish at any time they always need to be prepared
So you know how you questioned where the bloody Hell that Gameboy remix of U.N. Owen disappeared to? It didn't go anywhere, you just can't search for it in English. Instead you need to either copy and paste the kanjis for Touhou Project (東方) or you can use my playlist that's labeled "Grooving with unusual music" that I'm going to probably rename as "Music that takes forever to find or show up again." If any of you want to search for yourself at any point (or aren't aware how playlists work) just copy the following. "東方 BG EX" The remix really is both really good and is pre-extended so there's no need to loop it every three or so minutes. In that same playlist I mentioned earlier there's also an extended U.N. Owen remix of the Invincibility Candy theme simply called "This Extension" which came from a collection of various remixes all based off of the Invincibility Candy using the sound font from various games. Some of them are Touhou remixes! Don't try to looking up the extension of the U.N. Owen one though, it doesn't bare many fruits.
The lost media that I tend to encou.ter are lost mugen characters of touhou, many of them are archived in the massive touhou mugen archive but just as many of them were archived on sites that dont exist which is really sad.
I swear one of my first memories of touhou was over 10 years ago seeing a MUGEN video with the giant catfish from hisoutensoku but i cannot find such a video anywhere
Can we all just admire the beauty of the artwork seen at 17:09? I remember hearing an unrelated remix of U.N. Owen and falling in love with it. I then took a rather small dive into a rabithole and found that very video with the artwork and Touhou in general.
If we're talking about the unknown artists from old theme videos, I would want to bring up the thing about Flandre theme. There's two most popular mirrors of this song on UA-cam from 2008, the first one, the most popular one, is from IAmTheChibeh, featuring pic made by Aozora Market, who unfortunately passed away after a heart failure in 2018. But something more interesting is with the second mirror, uploaded by PineappleDisciple (the same that features the same picture in 16:36). I had been trying to find the original artist from this mirror for about a year. Unfortunately I couldn't find it anywhere, I found a Gelbooru post of this picture, but it was from 2009, one year after the song was uploaded, and also this post doesn't have the artist in tags (you can easily find this post by searching tags "flandre_scarlet vampire fire").
It's also possible the artist simply removed their work or accounts. Japanese artists are largely ready to nuke their entire fanart catalog for whatever reason - usually if the copyright holder requests it (not relevant with Touhou), if they get an industry job and can't showcase fanart anymore, or - sadly the most common - when reposts and uncredited usage gets out of hand that they pack up their stuff and leave. One of my favourite fanartists for a different fandom had their work extremely recognisably and frequently appear in AI art generations and that was enough for them to remove everything and go dark.
I still yet to find the video that first introduced me to touhou, I dont remember exactly what it was, but what my imagination builds is a black and white animation like iconic bad apple video but it was all EOSD, Remilia was the first character I memorized. It was so long ago I do not remember anything about it all, just a black and white Remilia sitting on a throne in a small castle. The other thing that I searched for a long time, but found is a huge part of my touhou music introduction, an calm guitar arrangement of Desire Drive ( my favourite touhou song ). I'm glad I still have it.
16:30 ah a fellow unlucky tug enjoyer i see shoutout aside it feels rather refreshing to hear a video talking about this because most lost media videos i watch don't tend to include touhou, so this is nice to have
There's one piece of Touhou media that's missing. It's a sonanoka song. In the music video, in the middle of it, it shows a guy playing a guitar and singing the lyrics to the song.
Touhou related lost media I remember were two custom Fire Emblem GBA attack animations made for Sakuya and Aya I randomly sumbled upon browsing youtube. At the time I thought they were really cool as it was basically a combination of my two favourite series. Nowadays it's probably been deleted/privated but I swear they existed
Fun fact theres also len'en Lost media 1# (Lost ATOMYK remixes) : basically there were multiple remixes of len'en project OST that was made by ATOMYK, but after some time he decided to delete his channel and create new one for unknown reason, and so the original remixes that were on his original channel were lost and he made new remixes, and sadly i only remember two remixes called "Crystal Joker" and "Reasoning Time" Crystal joker was the remix of the Aoji Shitodo Theme while Reasoning time while was remix of the kurohebi theme or devanagara ( i cant remember for sure) 2# (Lost Len'en 8-bit mash-up) : there once was a mash up of evanescent existence boss themes, that was also an 8 bit remix, and the video itself was similar to this one ua-cam.com/video/marHCxPSc6U/v-deo.html , the only difference is that, is that it was different channel that uploaded the Len'en 8 Bit mash up and not tyifax YL, or at least thats what i remember 3# (Lost Miki Hiroyuki / Lenk64 Len'en Remixes) theres a HUGE amount of lost remixes from Lenk64 / Miki Hiroyuki, and the only place where i found these lost remixes was on the Russian Website Called Vkontakte in the "Music" Sections, i just typed Lenk64 and found allot of the lost remixes in one album vk.com/music/playlist/384047612_27_9efc7e9232c11a8b23 4# (Lost Len'en Fan game) there were once a lost len'en fan game that was similar to touhou 3 / touhou 9 / fools rush in, i assume the game was created by SaKaNa Ni, the game had the original len'en characters and one fan made OC, named Saya Sengoku a flower girl with a shovel, the game was also drawn in typical len'en art style, and this video also contains a lost len'en style original theme, and the only proof of this game existence is this video : ua-cam.com/video/XjQoZCw6-Bk/v-deo.html 5# (Lost Len'en Style Themes) theres multiple lost remixes that were made by Umbra / UmbrakineticMusic and possible by different people and these remixes can only be heard from the sakana's channel, such as Title theme of the "Revenge of the BIRD Dimension" andHanagoe Namari theme, and the only proof of the existence of these themes is on her channel, Namari theme : ua-cam.com/video/hm1Mtlvh35Q/v-deo.html / Title theme : ua-cam.com/video/6--RCA0RKIs/v-deo.html
There's this one Ghost Lead vocal theme that I loved and was deleted from youtube about 5-7 years ago. I barely remember anything about it other than a very pink image of Yuyuko. Maybe it was on one of the really old BishamontenReturn channels? That or a really small music uploading channel. Haven't been able to find it in anything I've found on youtube or spotify.
idk if it counts as a lost media, but for a while there are some gif floating around the internet of Some animations drawn in the style of ZUN. No one really know where it comes from. I once seen a forum that tried to collect as much info. The most well known ones are Remilia, Rumia, Keine, Yugi. And there are some really unpopular ones such as Reimu and Marisa animation drawin in the style of Silent Sinner in Blue. It might come from a music video that might have to be taken down, or still somewhere but no one knows...
The mention of a secret Seija game kinda blew me away. It's wild to me there's basically a Th14.3.5 out there... I think another scary thing about lost media that used to be online is the fact that there could've been videos, art or music you might've loved years ago but just forgot about them, and will never be able to remember cause they're long gone by now and there's no hint of memory left to even miss them. The only closest story I personally have is a YT channel that used to make very dark Touhou parodies in Ciryes style, called TarmoFlake. Since I wasn't sure how long they'd be able to survive on modern restrictive YT and the channel itself being basically dead for 6 years, I wanted to download all his work before one of them might be gone. And of course shortly after I planned to download them, one of them was suddenly missing from the channel. (Thankfully I found it on a different website that luckily had 1000s of random media uploaded for archival purposes again, but I still couldn't believe the awful coincidental timing..) And who knows, there might be more videos missing from him or different parodies I just never got to see and are gone for good..
Great video, i didnt kew there were so much lost media of Touhou, also your Wriggle story reminded me of something that actually happenned to me a couple of weeks ago, but with a picture of Suwako in a mountain of faith video, i eventually found it but it was in a really bad quality
There's this one cookie video i remember a long time ago where it was like a colosseum fight and the last this alive was the nico nico douga logo icon thing
Great Video! Very refreshing to hear about the lesser known lost media stuff! This channel will blow up if you keep on like that. I can taste it in the air...
Fun fact: About the Storyboard, it seems it was the only "mass produced" article sold related to the lost OVA. How do i know? Because, as far as i know, *_there's at least one copy confirmed to be in Mexico_* , and it belongs to one of my friends. This bastard claims he got it just under $200 MXN (about 10 USD), and it has been under his possesion at least since 2015 (but it seems he had it before that year), and, according to this guy, at least 5000 copies were made.
Also: that OVA is apparently the most searched animation on the entire internet. Animebytes, until March 2020, offered a _"whatever-you-want-unlimited-bandwidth-free-download"_ bounty of around 1TB of free speed bandwitdh downloads from the site to whoever found it and confirms it as the official animation (also uploading them in Animebytes with a least 1 day of exclusivity rights). And there are rumors that whoever finds it now said reward is close to 1.5TB.
@@Suwawako In an online store and in an old touhou forum, I saw that someone asked if they could upload a scan, but in the end nothing was uploaded. The funny thing is that the first thing I mentioned is scanned, but in poor quality and only the first 2 pages.
There was a UA-cam video called something like "Flight of the Skirt Cutter" that featured Kaguya dancing without her skirt (edited out in blender probably), to a Lunatic Princess remix that sounded like the original IN track (made with some MIDI interface, maybe modified from the actual song data) without percussion and never quite climaxed/fully looped, a bit like Voyage 1969/70. I found it mesmerizing. Shame the video seemingly went missing from UA-cam circa 2019. They even offered a (nonworking, dead link) MIDI download in the description. In brighter news many Touhou remixes and doujin albums are probably NOT lost media, thanks to the Touhou Lossless Music Torrent. That being said they're rather hard to sort through unless you know Japanese, and somebody with a lot of hard drive space should probably download all 2TB, just in case.
It's kinda sad but also quite understanable about how some of this things are lost. As for the guy that got the remakes of PC98... I think that 's selfish for not wanting to share it, but it's still his work and we wait for it OR we can make it ourselves! Cool video as always!
i honestly agree, that really is the equivalent of a kid showing off his new fancy toy to every kid in the neighbourhood but not allowing them to play with it or even touch it. he should have just kept it to himself
I have been looking for the original Melty Blood Trials and I can completely sympathise to those looking for the EoSD trials. Maybe I can help in some way. I already found most of the original Trials for Melty Blood except one so I am open to take a break for a bit to try to find these EoSD trials.
It's not as easy as you think, some people (like me) tried to find those trials as far as some obscure japanese file hosting websites, dead torrents, etc.... The closest i found were the "update file" of the trial, but it's useless without x version it's updating from.
@@ShaffySwitcher Yea, it probably isn’t but hey I would love to discover things when I can. Also, I found the readme file for kouma ver 12. Not the game but it is something.
Mine's not Touhou but me and my friend remember an old Castlevania parody sprite flash from the very early 2000s on Newgrounds. It's called "Lazy Simon" or "Lazy Belmont" or something like that. Like in the CV1 intro, Simon walks to the gate with the tune, but it's locked. He then shrugs and walks away with the song again. It lasts less than 10 seconds, and while it was a classic at the time (even made the front page), it was probably blammed/voted out by younger kids a few years later, and now it's gone :(
There is an MMD video I watched many years ago I could never find again. It was of Reims, Alice, and a character who I didn’t know of all doing the backstreeets back meme. The thing with this was, it started with Alice standing in a large red area just looking cute as the camera zoomed in on her, but the it started to Zoom out as the Backstreet Boys song started to play, and then Reimu and the other girl ran in to sing the courace before Alice joined it.
i've found sooo much art on old touhou boards that is impossible to find through reverse image searching. it's become a pastime of mine to go through them and see if i can find them on danbooru and such but so much of the images are only there, which is just wild to me. while i've found and credited a lot of art that way it's crazy how much art there is on old oekaki boards just lying around that you normally couldn't even look for unless you were aware of the site. and even that doesn't help when you have to rely on archives; archived pages missing images is the most frustrating thing ever. i try to save as much art as i can as there's no telling when a site will give out.
my fave lost media: A remix of "now until the moment you die" that was in a touhou song playlist i had. and that playlist uploader is gone and so is the remix.
I used to watch a UA-camr called Deemonator. He made Mario Kart videos with Touhou music (including remixes posted by Linkstarzelda). His channel is gone, from what I've seen. I remember he posted MK7 videos with a remix of Plain Asia, as well as another video with Phantom Ensemble. Those videos were my first exposure to Touhou.
as a big nerd about doujin music and there's so much lost music from defunct doujin circles. Someone probably has the physical media somwhere but it's just gone from anywhere online. It's even worse when you can find the crossfade but not the actual album.
So the Anime Tenchou x Touhou crossover ended up being lost media. No wonder I could never find it. I liked the old Anime Tenchou anime commerical by Gainax and its cameo at Lucky Star.
Oooooh this is a very interesting video. I've been fascinated by Touhou Lost Media myself, especially fanmade content. Touhou fangames are fascinating and slightly depressing to learn about, as there's.... likely hundreds of fangames that are just, forever lost to time for a variety of reasons. Limited release due to how Touhou fangames had to be released in the late 2000s and early 2010s at just doujin festivals and limited online sales, thus ending up just floating around and lost to time in someone's attic, the creators leaving the doujin scene and thus not thinking to archive their works, creators who end up becoming ashamed of their works and dont care to archive them, creators who end up deleting all their works, so many ways that Touhou fangames that weren't incredibly popular or didn't have active efforts for preservation are just lost. You may have seen me tweet about a trilogy of lost fangames I was looking for a year or two ago, and the search for thos games really opened my eyes up to this topic. I've been working on / meaning to get out videos about Lost Media within the Touhou series for a while now, as I.... actually managed to track down that lost trilogy of games. I'm cutting through the red tape now of making sure I can release them publicly, and releasing a video documenting the search and discussing lost touhou media as a whole to hopefully drum up more interest in the topic as a whole. Keep an eye out for that, if you're interested!
the lost 8bit songs in the personal selections section reminded me of this one video i watched almost 10 years ago. honestly i dont even really remember what it actually was about, but if my memory doesnt fail me it was a gameboy-ish cover of UN owen the video itself is what i remember the most, being a still image of a screenshot from super mario land, with a fully colored and shaded flandre sprite lazily pasted on top of it havent seen it since, as my phone quite literally crashed as i was watching the video (phones used to be pretty crappy back in the day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Jynx's PC98 remake games have a reason to not be available: Zun's guidelines It is more clear if you take into account another lost fan game that is not as widely known, but many Touhou fans have come across it: Touhou 6 3D. The creator remade the whole game from scratch, using exactly the same engine as Zun, but on 3D environment using MMD models. He remixed the songs, did all the programming and uploaded development gameplay (one of the videos even had a top view mode to show the amount of accuracy between his stage 4 and the official game's stage 4, and let me tell you it was extremely accurate). The only thing he ever released was a demo with the boss battles, which can be easily found online. When he asked permission from Zun/TSA though, he was told that despite remaking everything from scratch, it was way too close to the official game to be released, so he was denied permission. This is bad not only because the game was never released, it also included a fanmade storyline for Rin Satsuki, and the person behind it was already working on a 3D version of Perfect Cherry Blossom, which was ultimately cancelled, and the programmer dissappeared. So Jynx has a very good reason to leave those titles unreleased. I believe the only reason he was able to release Fools Rush In was because it is a remake on the loosest way possible(just a boss rush, no stories or mechanics copied), so Zun had no problem with it existing as a downloadable fangame.
About lost songs, i remember saving on youtube an eosd of immortal smoke, have you ever listened to it before? it was the only one you could find on YT
Personally I've been looking for a lost U.N. Owen was her (death waltz remix) YTPMV on and off for years now as it was one of the first things that got me into Touhou. It was mr krabs stubbing his toe in the sailor mouth episode with the horn sound effect. I've done everything in my power to find it including finding the original creator but even he himself purged his own channel and videos not having any backup of it. Other than that I yearn for an eventual full release of Frontal Attack and the hope ZUN will make official art of Rin Satsuke.
One thing I've spent a lot of time looking for, but have never been able to find, is the original demo for LoLK. The big difference between this and the web demo (and the final game) is the resource system, it gave extra lives outright based on score instead of based on the chapter bonus, which makes the game EVEN HARDER than it already is. I've found gameplay footage of it but never the demo itself. It wasn't that long ago though so surely someone's saved it somewhere. The original UFO demo is another interesting one that used to be lost, that one having a completely different scoring system to the final game, but I did end up finding that one (a physical copy even!)
As a guy who done quite fair bits of research on the "Lost OVA", i believe that the movie is not necessary a "lost" media but more of an "unreleased" film since Animate still had the film in their pocket. Also i believe that the "DVD release" was a misconception, the 1500 yen "DVD" is actually an information book of the film and the article in 2015 about the Re-release of the OVA actually has no mention of the DVD at all as far as I know... BTW the other part of Anime Tenchou x Touhou were also "lost" as well such as Anime Tenchou movie(which is now miraculously on UA-cam) which has little to no Touhou content in it, so i doubt zun had anything to do with the OVA having no DVD release.
On this topic one ive searched a few times is a fangame crossover of guilty gear called Gensokyo Gear XX. Aside from pics/screenshots and some forums about it's legitamency ive done searches out of curiosity and havent found much
11:58 - 12:08 I disagree, JynX has the right to not release their own PC-98 remakes. I think a better analogy would be more like one of those embarrassing edgy books you wrote as a teenager, you are technically holding "Lost Media" hostage but you are well within your rights to not release it. I've also seen a different take on why JynX hasn't released the remakes yet, which is that he's too shy to contact ZUN about whether he could release them. I'm not sure if that's true or not but I still think he should release them since I would very much love to play a modern remake of the PC-98 games, it also seems like the remakes don't violate ZUN's rules on fanworks.
There's 2 videos I haven't been able to find anymore, both 3d pvs. One was Forbidden Scrollery themed, with what was probably a vocal version of Kosuzus theme playing? And the second was a 3D animation going through touhou 6 through 13, and it was called something weird/translated weirdly like "The story that started spinning". Anyone know if those are still around?
Just a little rant about lost media: So, if I could travel through time, I'd make a library of permanent records of pretty much everything that could be or has been lost. That way, regardless of what happens, nothing would truly be lost as I'm a sentimental bastard obsessed with history. After all, this vast library would hold a permanent record of everything I could possibly obtain, so not just Touhou. Anyway, this video brought up old wishful thoughts on what I imagine occasionally when depressed or sad.
If you've heard of the "Library of Babel" short story or website, you probably get what my inspiration for this was. But yeah, imagine a library/museum filled with countless artefacts lost to history, old paintings, & books that contain the life stories of everyone to ever walk this earth, as well as a detailed history of our world since the dawn of time. Like if Dr. Who was just a historian obsessed with the cataloguing of everything ever.
there's a piece of weird touhou art that i havent ever seen again despite all my searching, and it was of Sanae and maybe Suwako? it may have had another character but I remember Sanae for sure, and it was addressing the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. I think it was telling people to stay strong or something, but I literally haven't seen it in over 10 years now, it was posted on social media (I think I saw it on Facebook) and it was shown as if it was official art or something, but it was far too stylized to be Zun's art. But it was my first introduction to touhou, and I liked Sanae's design so much I decided to check the games out, and here I am! I never found that picture ever again though, which is kind of sad.
:V for the ending :V I feel that lol. Back then, I save all vid in my youtube playlist but some was delete or remove by youtube and owner. Which was really sad to me when I found out. I have a 1-2 year break from internet to study for college and when I got back, a lot of them were gone.
I remember being introduced to Touhou through a Terraria mod, and loved it's remix of Medicine's theme, so I searched it on UA-cam, and in one of those videos I found a comment with instructions on how to make poison, last time I checked the comment wasn't there anymore. It's only slightly related to Touhou, but si thought it was an interesting comment
i think the Touhou Smash development video could be considered a lost media, can't seem to find them on youtube and i can't access the original forum post. RIP Touhou Smash development video may the goofy aaah reimu always be remembered as a grim reminder on humanity.
Remember those Touhou doujin games published in PSVita? Until Sony cut access to the Playstation digital store, those ports will be lost media, including DLC. I wonder if there are lost Touhou doujin games on internet, since videogame preservation is still a hard task to do.
11:51 I mean, if we know someone has them, in perfectly functional state, and still available in their hard drive and/or the cloud, then by definition they're not lost. They're simply unavailable to the public. "Private games" if you will [edit]: I'm not even into Touhou but I know who Nekomimi Style/Nekomirin is! They made a song for the rhythm game VOEZ called Durandal ~Magical Freezing~. Actually the song got a remix that appears to be missing/lost. I remember all of that ordeal on Twitter precisely because Nekomirin was involved lolololol
I can’t tell you guys how many times I have been Searching for lost, Deleted Tegami Bachi Fanarts and Archiving them. If anyone watching this video happens to be a Tegami Bachi Fan and Has Some Old Fanart they Saved back in the Days of 2009 to 2014, Please Share it with me!
i wouldnt call flandance "lost media" more like this specific portion of the internet didnt know it. personally i knew about its source for nearly a decade just from playing osu/bms.
I remember when Tenchou x Touhou was announced, I roped a Japanese friend at the time to help me try to get it. The only thing for sale at any time up to February 2011 was the art book. I do remember the first screening incident, there was that much security that people couldn't take any videos at all. I always assumed that they'll never release it, so if they do I'll be surprised. This was before Memories of Phantasm, so it was the only "good" anime at the time related to Touhou that people wanted to see. And I knew ufotable for their work on Tales of Symphonia, so I was hyped that this would be great.
Very interesting video, I'd like to point out that it extends to music produced by circles, there are tons of old albums out there with completely impossibility to buy them, the only song you'd be able to find related to the album would be the crossfade, I have one of those albums currently that's being shipped to me, I had to go through proxy websites to buy it from japan, pretty wild when you think about it that there are songs out there, trapped in a CD, it's like finding a time capsule at this point.
This isn’t lost media or anything but I kinda need help finding this old vocaloid song, it’s just at the tip of my tongue…. Few things I remember about it was that hatsube miku, kagamine len and rin, kaito, akita neru, yowane haku were all in it, I’m pretty sure it was haku singing? It’s by owata-p pretty sure, I think it was about haku telling jokes
I just remembered one thing for some reason in my version of embodiment of scarlet devil (doesn't work right now to lazy to fix it) there is HTML archives of zuns website I don't know if that was originally there or not since I have no reference
The only parts of the game that remain is the two exe files the custom and the one to launch the game but as far as I can tell nothing else remains of the files (other than the ones for the website) as the game complains about a missing data folder and I haven't been able to find the folder though to be fair I didn't search online for it either
This isn't Touhou but I've been looking for a few mods for Midtown Madness 2 for years, in particular a KITT/KARR combo. There are other KITT mods but this one is different, as it seems to use models from a NFS High Stakes mod for KITT/KARR and there are pictures showing this one off. What is particularly interesting is that I found this KITT specifically on a... Geocities, I think, site, that also had a ton of other old car mods that I've never been able to found elsewhere, but most of the links there were dead when I checked.
well, there's a video that I watched about mmd touhou dancing songs in spanish, but now i can't find it. I think the title of the video was "Touhou Ñ Dancing"
Some touhou stuff that ive been looking but cant find, for are sinnkai's "tenco's story/tenco no tatabi(天子の旅 )" videos on youtube which was deleted because of *sigh* copyright by nintendo..... which is quite a shame because those were so cool and thats where i got my pfp from.....although fortunately its only the vids.
Idk why ZUN decides to throw away some songs Like shrine of the wind in touhou 1 It's only in the touhou 1 music test and wasn't remade in mystic square or Akyu's untouched score
Wait. Would my alpha builds of my now junked mystica games (due to most of the characters sorta just being thematically copies of those fron Touhou. Also Sangai seemed overall more fun, though I may change up the characters to be more original for sangai later) be lost media? I may think about finding and posting the exes of them, of couse I might polish them up more, mostly just adding a character select.
I don't think I've had that much experiences with Touhou lost media just yet, although I think I just remembered one time when I was looking for arranges of Miko's theme a while ago, I was looking through a channel that had a lot of doujin music uploads (I think LinkStarZelda). I had found one I was listening to, and someone mentioned in the comments about one of the Miko theme arranges that had been deleted (I think the °2 one). I don't remember much about what the comment said, except that I think it said the arrange had rain sounds. While I'm not entirely sure if it's lost since I never actually searched for it and frankly I only somehow remembered this existed while typing this comment, I'm kinda curious on what it is now lol. If anyone knows what this arrange is, please tell me in the replies it would be neat I guess technically most of Rin Satsuki's existence could be considered lost, as besides for her name, shot type names, and a couple educated speculations (although those are still speculations), we really know nothing official about her. Whatever ZUN wanted for her official design is likely lost, unless its one of his miscellaneous illustrations of unidentified characters (but then also, how are we supposed to know that if so). At least we have fandom to fill that gap lol. But then also, maybe I'm just finding an excuse to talk about Rin Satsuki as that local weird fan of her. Her situation makes me wonder if there are other unused/cut Touhou characters that were supposed to go into games, but never had the fortune of being left in a single line of code like Rin Satsuki was. So, without the Touhou fandom having any evidence of their existence, they are left to be forgotten, without ever truly being known... goddamnit, I'm making myself sad over characters I don't even know exist. I also save a bunch of art, and I think I have a couple arts saved that were later deleted. The first one that comes to mind is one of 18.5 Marisa that got deleted very soon after I saved it. It was posted in a discord server by someone else, but the server at one point got almost completely nuked, although maybe the other person (and maybe other avid art savers) still have it. I likely have some other deleted art just due to the fact I save a bunch of art. Perhaps I should try to catelog it or something Also, one last note, sometimes I wish ZUN would put his unused tracks in the music room like what he did in PC-98 (I think that's how it worked). Some of those songs are bangers (I was literally listening to Dreamy Pilot, the unused Lotus Land Story stage 4 theme, right before I clicked on this video), and I'm sure some of the unused Windows songs that likely exist would of been wonderful too. Wish I could listen to them This comment turned out to be a lot longer than I intended OK bye
Second comment but whatever, I kinda want to know a bit more of the doujin circle "Kinema Kan" The group that made the chen's gensokyo PV and my favorite "Yu mu"
I remember more 10 years ago, exist one touhou fangame call 東方訪界造 ~ Never Extinguished Flame, when the final boss is shuzo matsuoka (you know, the "never give up" meme), for a long time thats game is lost, because the creator "delete" (maybe its because the link its never update) the original link, thats include the 2 patch. Anyways, the game is lost for a long time but...i found one copy of thats game (work with danmakufu 0.12) and maybe i can share you BUT i listen months ago, Wanwan (the music creator for this game) says dont share this game (i think because thats years its more complex but in 2022 maybe i can share this game) This is the gameplay: ua-cam.com/video/tdxOe2DkTws/v-deo.html I think random user upload the game months ago but the link its gone PS: I have no problems for share you the game and save thats game for share
Always cool to find out about new things about touhou, enjoying the video so far. 👍
you’re first!
I think the ending part is the most depressing. Not even just from lost media, but from remembering all of those music channels that have been deleted over the many years.
Brb smokin' that BalisariaYagami pack 🚬

I could've sworn there was a website specifically made for touhou music, It helped archive things
@@runman624 DoujinStyle is what you're likely thinking of. It's less the songs themselves, and more the video, the comments, and the vibe from that time are all lost.
@@GensouChronicle touhou lossless music collection has basically 80% of all touhou music from 2000 to early 2017.
Since blameitonjorge won't make the Touhou lost media, I suppose I will take it into my own hands.
Jorge, I'm coming for you.
I guess we could blame that on him
I think korindou has it, since things that lost and forgotten are sent to gensokyo..
I hope this is real
You must begin the search for it
If you find the song I want to listen to it
Especially because if found, it's at least one of the earliest Touhou arranges (and possibly the first if the arranger's claim is true), and would definitely gain a spot in the Touhou fandom history books
I'll keep my eyes out for it too
Do you mean the Y.GORO arrangement? Because that's what I first thought about.
I've always hoped that they'll publicly release it one day!
my 2 favorite things
touhou *and* lost media?
this is gonna be a treat

Instead you need to either copy and paste the kanjis for Touhou Project (東方) or you can use my playlist that's labeled "Grooving with unusual music" that I'm going to probably rename as "Music that takes forever to find or show up again."
If any of you want to search for yourself at any point (or aren't aware how playlists work) just copy the following.
Found!
The lost media that I tend to encou.ter are lost mugen characters of touhou, many of them are archived in the massive touhou mugen archive but just as many of them were archived on sites that dont exist which is really sad.
I swear one of my first memories of touhou was over 10 years ago seeing a MUGEN video with the giant catfish from hisoutensoku but i cannot find such a video anywhere
iirc the flandance song's name roughly translated is apparently "flan-chan's music class"
yep ua-cam.com/video/iJmiIQExweI/v-deo.html
Thank you Suwako, these videos are super helpful and interesting to a Touhou fan like me who is really new to the fandom
One of my favourite fanartists for a different fandom had their work extremely recognisably and frequently appear in AI art generations and that was enough for them to remove everything and go dark.
>gelbooru
How much porn did it take to find the art
I still yet to find the video that first introduced me to touhou, I dont remember exactly what it was, but what my imagination builds is a black and white animation like iconic bad apple video but it was all EOSD, Remilia was the first character I memorized. It was so long ago I do not remember anything about it all, just a black and white Remilia sitting on a throne in a small castle.
The other thing that I searched for a long time, but found is a huge part of my touhou music introduction, an calm guitar arrangement of Desire Drive ( my favourite touhou song ). I'm glad I still have it.
16:30 ah a fellow unlucky tug enjoyer i see
shoutout aside it feels rather refreshing to hear a video talking about this because most lost media videos i watch don't tend to include touhou, so this is nice to have
shhh....
There's one piece of Touhou media that's missing. It's a sonanoka song. In the music video, in the middle of it, it shows a guy playing a guitar and singing the lyrics to the song.
Are you perhaps talking about this? ua-cam.com/video/5WweYV3v8vQ/v-deo.htmlsi=LK6sfQv7HByLbt6g
I have a picture of an old MMD animation where I screencapped a picture of Eiki dabbing but I can’t find the orginal source of the MMD anywhere now.

Fun fact theres also len'en Lost media
1# (Lost ATOMYK remixes) : basically there were multiple remixes of len'en project OST that was made by ATOMYK, but after some time he decided to delete his channel and create new one for unknown reason, and so the original remixes that were on his original channel were lost and he made new remixes, and sadly i only remember two remixes called "Crystal Joker" and "Reasoning Time" Crystal joker was the remix of the Aoji Shitodo Theme while Reasoning time while was remix of the kurohebi theme or devanagara ( i cant remember for sure)
2# (Lost Len'en 8-bit mash-up) : there once was a mash up of evanescent existence boss themes, that was also an 8 bit remix, and the video itself was similar to this one ua-cam.com/video/marHCxPSc6U/v-deo.html , the only difference is that, is that it was different channel that uploaded the Len'en 8 Bit mash up and not tyifax YL, or at least thats what i remember
3# (Lost Miki Hiroyuki / Lenk64 Len'en Remixes) theres a HUGE amount of lost remixes from Lenk64 / Miki Hiroyuki, and the only place where i found these lost remixes was on the Russian Website Called Vkontakte in the "Music" Sections, i just typed Lenk64 and found allot of the lost remixes in one album vk.com/music/playlist/384047612_27_9efc7e9232c11a8b23
4# (Lost Len'en Fan game) there were once a lost len'en fan game that was similar to touhou 3 / touhou 9 / fools rush in, i assume the game was created by SaKaNa Ni, the game had the original len'en characters and one fan made OC, named Saya Sengoku a flower girl with a shovel, the game was also drawn in typical len'en art style, and this video also contains a lost len'en style original theme, and the only proof of this game existence is this video : ua-cam.com/video/XjQoZCw6-Bk/v-deo.html
5# (Lost Len'en Style Themes) theres multiple lost remixes that were made by Umbra / UmbrakineticMusic and possible by different people and these remixes can only be heard from the sakana's channel, such as Title theme of the "Revenge of the BIRD Dimension" andHanagoe Namari theme, and the only proof of the existence of these themes is on her channel, Namari theme : ua-cam.com/video/hm1Mtlvh35Q/v-deo.html / Title theme : ua-cam.com/video/6--RCA0RKIs/v-deo.html
Great, a future video idea...
To be honest, as much as I enjoy Len'En, I wouldn't be upset if Emergency Everyday stays lost because it's...not pretty 😆
8:27 This is unrelated to the video but I love how you put the Misplaced Cave song. My favorite song in Fancy Pants Adventures.
Yes
There's this one Ghost Lead vocal theme that I loved and was deleted from youtube about 5-7 years ago. I barely remember anything about it other than a very pink image of Yuyuko. Maybe it was on one of the really old BishamontenReturn channels? That or a really small music uploading channel. Haven't been able to find it in anything I've found on youtube or spotify.
7:43 About the text that appears on the screen here...
I love Great Fairy Wars!
idk if it counts as a lost media, but for a while there are some gif floating around the internet of Some animations drawn in the style of ZUN.
(Thankfully I found it on a different website that luckily had 1000s of random media uploaded for archival purposes again, but I still couldn't believe the awful coincidental timing..)
And who knows, there might be more videos missing from him or different parodies I just never got to see and are gone for good..
He must release those images with high quality scans
@@Suwawako In an online store and in an old touhou forum, I saw that someone asked if they could upload a scan, but in the end nothing was uploaded. The funny thing is that the first thing I mentioned is scanned, but in poor quality and only the first 2 pages.
@@Suwawako and we tried to convince him, to the point we did it. We convinced it... and then for some reasons everyone forgot to scan them.
IIRC he didn't release it because ZUN doesn't allow direct remakes of his games, so that would've conflicted with his guidelines
i honestly agree, that really is the equivalent of a kid showing off his new fancy toy to every kid in the neighbourhood but not allowing them to play with it or even touch it.
he should have just kept it to himself
I'm not sure if you talked about this but could you make a video on Touhou Kinema Kan or HakureiSou? I've been really interested with them lately
I wish the Seihou Yuuka was lost media.
Anime Tenchou x Touhou were technically still released in japan, just only during some specific events and having no DVD release.
14:56 Oh my god, thank you. I had no idea you could add 'before:' and a year. Time to go on nostalgia trips
3:18 The text that flashes here last for 7 frames
there's also a lot of lost touhou fan music remixs to
Worst is the lost media Touhou h works, if only I had saved those back then.

I didn't got scared, but spent 10mins of my life trying to see what was that while I was on phone
the lost 8bit songs in the personal selections section reminded me of this one video i watched almost 10 years ago.
honestly i dont even really remember what it actually was about, but if my memory doesnt fail me it was a gameboy-ish cover of UN owen
the video itself is what i remember the most, being a still image of a screenshot from super mario land, with a fully colored and shaded flandre sprite lazily pasted on top of it
havent seen it since, as my phone quite literally crashed as i was watching the video (phones used to be pretty crappy back in the day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
And this is why its important to archive everything that you like in the internet.
Jynx's PC98 remake games have a reason to not be available: Zun's guidelines
It is more clear if you take into account another lost fan game that is not as widely known, but many Touhou fans have come across it: Touhou 6 3D.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the offical Bad Apple extention.
There is one song I always remember from time to time, found it on Nico once and then I forgot to save it. It's called My Kitsune's COmputer.
On this topic one ive searched a few times is a fangame crossover of guilty gear called Gensokyo Gear XX. Aside from pics/screenshots and some forums about it's legitamency ive done searches out of curiosity and havent found much
11:58 - 12:08
I disagree, JynX has the right to not release their own PC-98 remakes.
Tawhaw project
Just a little rant about lost media:
So, if I could travel through time, I'd make a library of permanent records of pretty much everything that could be or has been lost.
I have a playlist of Touhou songs I love and I've downloaded the entire playlist multiple times onto an external drive just in case.
I wonder if there are lost Touhou doujin games on internet, since videogame preservation is still a hard task to do.
do not get me started on the touhou flashes (and all those dvds). do not.
I miss all the heavy metal yunum made I was only able to save one song and can’t find anyone with the others

I mean, if we know someone has them, in perfectly functional state, and still available in their hard drive and/or the cloud, then by definition they're not lost. They're simply unavailable to the public.
"Private games" if you will
[edit]: I'm not even into Touhou but I know who Nekomimi Style/Nekomirin is!
Holy cow!!, You're lucky enough to watches it!.
Tell me the story of the anime.
Before I watch the video I am praying that he mentions the bad apple thing
Very interesting video, I'd like to point out that it extends to music produced by circles, there are tons of old albums out there with completely impossibility to buy them, the only song you'd be able to find related to the album would be the crossfade, I have one of those albums currently that's being shipped to me, I had to go through proxy websites to buy it from japan, pretty wild when you think about it that there are songs out there, trapped in a CD, it's like finding a time capsule at this point.
The real lost media is info on touhou soccer eiki's "Guilty or not" special interception.
Weirdly enough complete with snapshots
Idk why ZUN decides to throw away some songs
Like shrine of the wind in touhou 1
It's only in the touhou 1 music test and wasn't remade in mystic square or Akyu's untouched score
anyways, touhou project to many lost media
(including hakurei apartment just found only opening,pv comic)
If anyone knows what this arrange is, please tell me in the replies it would be neat
I guess technically most of Rin Satsuki's existence could be considered lost, as besides for her name, shot type names, and a couple educated speculations (although those are still speculations), we really know nothing official about her.
Perhaps I should try to catelog it or something
Also, one last note, sometimes I wish ZUN would put his unused tracks in the music room like what he did in PC-98 (I think that's how it worked). Some of those songs are bangers (I was literally listening to Dreamy Pilot, the unused Lotus Land Story stage 4 theme, right before I clicked on this video), and I'm sure some of the unused Windows songs that likely exist would of been wonderful too. Wish I could listen to them
This comment turned out to be a lot longer than I intended OK bye
Second comment but whatever, I kinda want to know a bit more of the doujin circle "Kinema Kan" The group that made the chen's gensokyo PV and my favorite "Yu mu"
I remember more 10 years ago, exist one touhou fangame call 東方訪界造 ~ Never Extinguished Flame, when the final boss is shuzo matsuoka (you know, the "never give up" meme), for a long time thats game is lost, because the creator "delete" (maybe its because the link its never update) the original link, thats include the 2 patch. Anyways, the game is lost for a long time but...i found one copy of thats game (work with danmakufu 0.12) and maybe i can share you BUT i listen months ago, Wanwan (the music creator for this game) says dont share this game (i think because thats years its more complex but in 2022 maybe i can share this game)
This is the gameplay: ua-cam.com/video/tdxOe2DkTws/v-deo.html
I think random user upload the game months ago but the link its gone
PS: I have no problems for share you the game and save thats game for share
