Who is listening to this masterpiece in 2024?
Me! 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤ I listened to DMB since 1991. HOW could this be? Love Crosover-Prog-Surprise-Rock-Singer-Songwriter-Music. Should I say, since DMB? Yes. BUT, can’t believe anybody, first of all me, DMB is full of my playlists, but in the meantime I was so familiar (but listening to Neal Morse and really good stuff) I found out DMB is touring … Germany! But it’s gone. I have absolut no idea why. I never seen DMB, just always listened to it. Why????? Yesterday I felled into the Central Park concert, and all the other outstanding live appearances. Unbelievably amazed am I. IT‘s Deserved Masterpieces Believe it (DMB) 🤦♂️🤣 and listen to it, feel it and cry for joy. What a hidden story between DMB me … and I. 😅 Sorry! I even thought of driving to Brussels to 1. May 2024. Too far for money and time table. Just bought the live recordings. Party here. Please celebrate and party there. Hope there will be a Bluray some day …
This guy!!!
Me !!!!!

Me too
I find myself watching this once or twice a week because it’s simply perfect and not many things in life are perfect. When you find something that is “perfect” for you, I hope you visit it often and it brings you the feeling I get from this.
❤️☮️🗽🎉
I play drum , i'm a drum guy , but my favorite Pink Floyd album is Animals because of the genuis guitar play of Gilmore along those songs....i've never eard of Warren Hayes before , i ran on that song hazardly a few weeks ago ....i knew about the Allemand brothers , a few songs but not much.... i,m 55 those are my years of connecting wth music ...the man is simply ''off the charts'' he is, from my opinion one of the , if not THE most incredible guitar player i've ever seen
WELL SAID! 💋
Need to shrink my favorites list so this comes up more often...
💯 Thank you.
Let's not kid ourselves ; I enjoy some Dave Matthews however Mr. Warren Haynes is what makes this version awesome !!
Carter wishing he would have teamed up with Haynes instead of DMB.
I agree 1000%!
@@strikerj4810 More like DMB wishing they could have teamed up with Warren Haynes rather than Tim Reynolds.
My favorite part is around 7:25 where it looks like Dave is saying "badass" to Carter.
@@delataylor "He's bad".
Watching this in 2024 thinking this is the apex of musical performance for this genre, but not just that- audio quality, mixing, camera work, lack of smart phones in the audience. I guess I’m just getting older (mid 30s) but this is one of the greats to me.
I agree....if u haven't done it...make your way to the Gorge on labor Dave weekend...its always epic...have seen Warren do Cotez 4 times there...amazing...mesmerizing.....hypnotic....that guitar sings...its awesome !
Neil Young has written countless classics, but this one man, it's of another dimension. These dudes do it justice.
Trent sed it. Sometimes, a song gets covered, a song isn't yours anymore. Respect, but gd
Thats true, best Neil Young sog IMO
True that brother/ sister. May our heavenly Father hold you in his palm forever 💕
@@Bellathebear777that’s prob not it for this crowd bruh. We free thinkers here.
Neil has stated he wrote this song as a teenager while in high school.
Warren Haynes kicks the shit out of this and Dave is fantastic...the whole band just smoked it.
I’ve realized that ever time Warren Haynes is a ‘guest’ at someone’s performance, it adds a new dimension to the music in a fabulous way! He has the ability to make a good or great song absolutely amazing imo❗️👍 This is just one example!
@@elainemeyer5062well said.. I hope to see him live… life is too short
@@stevetrivago 👍 Absolutely agree with both your points - seeing a live performance AND life being too short! ‘Gotta take one day at a time and live it like it’s going to be your last imo (as an almost 70 yr old)!
This song with Warren Haynes is the Les Paul equivalent of David Gilmore’s Comfortably Numb solo with a Strat. What a tone.
I just said the same thing. Maybe better though.
Nahh. Definitely better
Don't know if I can go that far as comfortably numb is my fave solo ever but when my buddy sent me this and asked what I thought of the guitarist. I was like holy shit. This guy has phenomenal sound. Well done warren and DMB this song is amazing
@@jeffb8562 not better… but close ☺️
@@jeffb8562 you need to go re-watch pulses comfortably numb. It's not even close at the end of the day. Similar, but gilmours is still better.
In 20 years, I've listened to this probably 1000 times. Its damn near perfect from beginning to end. This cover was what brought me into the Jam scene so many years ago
Found this song maybe 2 months ago i think ive listened maybe 1000 times as well 😭
This concert is perfection
I love how Dave turns to Carter and says “He’s bad.” The respect is palpable. Warren is king
Dave actually forgets to jump back in and sing his portion of the remainder he's so enthralled by his playing.
Amen brother!
Seen the same. Lost his jump
Agree..
F’ing great. An excellent rendition of a great NY tune. He is proud to hear this!!!
Warren Haynes is a legend
From , Asheville NC
I'm from rootn toot N Newton....I raise maters taters and hell!!!!00Great band....
Neil Young is a legend!!
High as fuck on hash oil!
Kevin Diluzio you must be looking for some Widespread Panic.
Personally I feel that whenever Warren Haynes is a ‘guest’ at another band’s concert, it’s not going to be just good, or even great, BUT absolutely amazing❗️👍 I’ve noticed that Warren always gives whatever he plays more than 100%, but in this case, I’d say he puts 200% into his 🎸 playing and his voice as well just by watching him!
This is my favorite UA-cam video of all times. I've decided. It just doesn't get old or ever quench my thirst for it. I have also come to the recent realization as I am editing this comment years later that this is hands down the best live performance of my lifetime thus far.
“...and they built up with their bare hands what we still can’t build today”
You aint talkin to me boi!!
@@deboseajones5258 I am..❤️☮️🗽
My favorite line in this classic Neil Young song
A M E N just like Everything the past was better
This performance has been my hands down favorite song for over a decade. It never gets old. It somehow calms my nerves now when I can’t sleep. Timeless.
You need to definetely listen to the 17 minutes version they did in 2018. I believe it might top this one
Well it is nice to see this band play some lead guitar work once in a while, otherwise I wasn't crazy about their style. Too much fiddle and sax for my tastes.
I think the guitar playing is phenomenal but the song itself is kind of boring..meh! maybe it's me but I just don't give that much of a shit about how Cortez brutalized or whatever the South American Indians. If it wasn't for Cortez those people would still be living in mud huts and doing human sacrifices to the gods. All of that bs about how the Spanish killed the Aztecs is just the natural cycle of things on this planet.
I don't really give a fk about ancient history I live for today and I'm not a Neil Young fan, he's an arrogant liberal douchebag!
@@florinbucur145just listened to the 17min version. It was good. Warren really jams. This is still my favorite. They are just FEELING it here. Thanks for recommending the other one. I didn’t know about it
I love Neil Young and this song... This may well be the best version of Cortez that I've ever heard. This is live music performance perfection.
Beautiful music.
Thank you Warren Haynes & DMB.
Go see DMB at Gorge....its life changing for sure.
Fricken love when he looks back and says " He's bad ass !!! That smile of appreciation melts me !!!😊
The tone from that Les Paul is something else... stunning cover
Anyone still rockin to these great legends in 2020 ?? Wish I were at this concert in NYC. From upstate NY and so cool to see this is still available to watch.
Shadow Thomas you been to SPAC to see them I’m guessing? One of my favorite times going to see them there
Word👍🏿bro !!!!!we in the same boat!!!Binghamton !!!!!!!!
Eastern PA fam! I was a young one and didn’t know Dave and his breathtaking art back then. If I were 23 back then I would have without a doubt been front and center. This concert is IMO one of the greatest concerts of all time and should be talked about as such
Spread it, Thomas
This is timeless. Warren can kick the heck out of a guitar.
Warren being Warren. World treasure. Seen him at least 20 times over the last 25 years by himself, Allman Bros, Gov’t Mule. Started when I was old enough to drive back in 96’ and haven’t stopped since.
Raise your hands y’all. I can’t be the only one with tears in my eyes after seeing Warren Haynes touching heart felt solo. Dave Matthews oogling his Les Paul in amazement is absolutely priceless. One of my favorites of all time. Now if only they had a Spatial Video of this. Just wow. 🤩
My God, that is SOOOOOO good! Warren Haynes' playing on this genuinely made my spine tingle. Beautiful guitar playing, a model of taste - perfection.
Id put him up there with the top he's absolutely breath taking live
Warren is so underrated, ABB, Gov. Mule, DAC, legendary!!!
One of the best solos I’ve ever heard. I love Dave’s reaction at 7:25
yessir. it looks like he says "that's badass" and it is.
He’s the man. Or that’s bad ass. Either way, both are true…
It looks like he says " he's bad". Warren is a beast.
"This man..." *shakes head in awe*
His mad
never tired seeing Warren carry Dave.
My jaw drops every time I watch and listen to this. Warren Haynes = amazing!
Edit: Lets not forget to give Neil Young his ado as this is a cover by Matthews and Haynes ☺
The fact that only 600k people have witnessed this masterpiece makes me sad. Flawless performance.
Exactly
But 600k!!!with great taste and a little bit of knowledge on history!!!
I’ve seen it many times; if that makes you feel better
If you don't feel this, I can't do nothing fo you man.
Sweet Jeseus.
Man, you put Dave Matthews and Warren Haynes on this amazing Neil Young song and it becomes a mind blowing experience.
I am 61, and never heard a better version 😩😎🙏🎁💫🙌💜🎊👌☑️💕
I love how at around the 6.30 minute mark, during Warren's solo, Dave turns to drummer Carter Beauford and mouths 'amazing!'
One of my favorite little background things ever...and prior to that he is so locked into what Warren's doing, staring with intensity
Also, it's at 7:27ish and he looks to be saying, "that's bad ass"...imho
It’s so cool when Dave looks over and just shakes his head and says “ he’s bad!” Lol. He sure is man!!!
I have lost count of how many times that I have played this performance; must be thousands and I never tire of hearing it. Superb!
Same here 💗
I'm like you my friend, I can't stay away from this one. I keep listening to it over and over. It makes me feel so alive at 70 and I really dig it so much. It's just spell binding the whole thing. I like every version but I love the 19 minute one the best and I like it loud on my big speakers. Dave Matthew's and Warren Hayes plus the whole entire band is incredible.
@@mikerobardey7573 I live in Ukraine and when the air raid sirens go off, I play this and wind up the volume until it drowns them out. :)
Fuck, I miss live music...
My guitar must be broken. I can't get these sounds to come out of it.
You guys picked a helluva song to collaborate on. One of the best versions of this song ever, THANK YOU!

I’d pay just to hear this song live
This is the best Neil Young piece ever. They took it to another level.
You're kidding right? It's a good cover, but the original has so much more soul.
Fuck yes sir!!!! but No One does it quite like Uncle Neil ... Ive seen it .. i was destroyed ... cortez hit and i shit you not 100 percent sober !!! mind blowing breath taking ... life changing but DMB KILLED IT for sure
Cortez is a great track, and there are great covers of it from bands such as slint and built to spill, this is not one of them
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I like this one the best. Better than the original and better than the other versions, dmb’s others included.
@@eightytwo8282 How come?
This is my favorite DMB performance with Warren Haynes. Sends me places... happy places.
Agree
Definitely among my all time favorite songs by DMB
This was my happy place. 17 years ago sparking a J on the great lawn and listening to DMB and Warren play. What a memory.
And the space between
@@jimbeaux89 it’s originally by Neil young
Been writing & home recording for a year. Then I come back to this & realise that I'm pond life. Warren's sublime choice of notes is a masterclass. The words respect & gratitude belong somewhere in this paragraph so I'll park them here.
He came dancing across the water
With his galleons and guns
Looking for the new world
And the palace in the sun
On the shore lay Montezuma
With his coca leaves and pearls
In his halls, he often wandered
With the secrets of the world
And his subjects gathered 'round him
Like the leaves around a tree
In their clothes of many colors
For the angry gods to see
And the women all were beautiful
And the men stood straight and strong
They offered life in sacrifice
So that others could go on
Hate was just a legend
And war was never known
The people worked together
And they lifted many stones
And they carried them to the flat lands
But they died along the way
And they build up with their bare hands
What we still can't do today
And I know she's living there
And she loves me to this day
I still can't remember when
Or how I lost my way
He came dancing across the water
Cortez, Cortez
What a killer
I still find myself, 20 years later, still obsessed with this version and cover of the amazing work of Neil.
I can't explain with words how I feel when I listen to this performance. Especially the intro part of the second guitar solo... Unbelievable.
I hate most covers but they absolutely nailed this... didn't miss a lick, didn't change a thing definitely 2 thumbs and 2 big toes up
I get lost in Warren Haynes Les Paul in this rendition...it's incredible, or as Dave said to his bandmate somewhere around the 7:25ish mark, "that's bad ass".
Took it a notch higher than Neil
My father would listen to this before he passed away and i myself find comfort in listing to this song but damn i ball like a baby everytime.
I blew the speakers in my grandma's Caddy to this song in high school, would do again.
My dad told me to check this cover out over and over. Now I know why.

Glad you all got to hear Neil's masterpiece...one of many.
I love Neil young, but gosh damn, this might be the best version of any song that ever existed
Dancin across the water - beautifully played. Never get tired of this one.
May be the best cover ever..
I’m going on 70 y.o. and found this video less than a week ago - it’s actually the first time I’ve ever even heard of this song, but I ❤ it! It amazes me in a way that the lyrics to many songs that were written/composed for the 1st time quite some years ago seem to have more relevance today than they did originally for multiple reasons. This is one of them imo! * UPDATE: It’s the beginning of ‘24, and since I wrote this comment, I’ve accumulated many other versions of this song. I did like Neil Young’s ‘Crazy Horse’ (IIRC) one too, but still prefer THIS w/ Dave and Warren!
I can listen to this song over and over again and never get tired of it. Warren is so badass. And of course I love Dave to no end! Great remake!!!!!

Spectacular guitars. Great cover.
I’ve lost count to how many times I’ve listened to this song, how many chills sent through my entire body, how many times this song has touched my soul. This is first time I’ve watched this video of this song. I love how Dave zones out on Warren’s solos with a smile on his face. Real recognize real.
Perhaps perfection...I guess I would challenge anyone to top this...good luck.
I thank you
In the middle of this plague...this is awesome.
It would always be!
The power this man puts into one note is absolutely ridiculous. Not gonna lie, expected Dave Matthews to turn this into a Dave Mathews song, but I was pleasantly surprised
He definitely kept the intention Neil young had when writing it but put his own flair on the song
Awesome performance
