Absolutely - they always play better live!! Always!! Maybe bc they just love to please their fans, or it may be bc it means so much more being together, and feeling all those speakers so so alive, bringing us alive... Knowing they can SHARE THEIR LIVES !!!! 😎💜 Their REAL LIFE!! 🔥🔥🔥
Ok, I’ve been listening to the Central Park version of this for years and was just trying to find that online and found this instead. I honestly can’t think of a better use of 19 minutes than this version of this song. Music has magical powers and this version is suuuuuch a good example of that. Props to DMB and Warren and thanks for yet another drop in the cup.
Hard to say ..they are all so damn good, but look at Carter, his smile tells you.. i am partial to the MSG @ NYC one, but their guitar battle here, well omg.
I am 58 yo and have been listening to rock n roll my entire life...….THIS is the best performance by a rock band I have ever heard or witnessed !!!....utterly......fantasticly…….incredibly...…..INSANE !!!...….THIS CAN'T BE BEAT...…….PERIOD !!!
What I love about this video is at 8:38. Tim’s like you want to play games… let’s play games. Absolutely love all these human beings and all who appreciate it
Brooooooooo. I think this is one of the greatest performances I’ve ever heard in my life. Warren is a freaking guitar legend if I’ve ever seen one. He can play literally ANYTHING and make it sound amazing!
The two best guitar players playing off each other. This is the best live performances I have ever seen.. Don’t forget Buford laying down those drums. I was at Bonnaroo and Warren came on stage and I thought my dream came true. Watchtower instead.
Tim’s facial expression at 15:20+ is a man on fire, in the zone, sweet spot and wheelhouse. This video is a culmination of every artist on that stage doing exactly what they were born to do. Absolute Masterpiece.
Whenever Warren Haynes is a ‘guest’ at someone’s concert, you can be sure it’s going to be great 👍! This man can single-handedly turn an ‘average’ performance into an outstanding one❗️
@@rickmartucci5642 I agree with you to an extent! I personally feel that it’s Haynes and NOT Gov’t Mule that gives it (and everything else) so much more, and really shows his talent as a more ‘soloist’ musician!
I held a sign earlier in the day for govt mules performance, and all it said was "Cortez?".. Warren nodded to me and pointed at me. Without a doubt, I got this played. Best moment of my life.
That’s incredible. Where were you. Best that ever happened to me was getting cursed at by Robert Plant for talking to him during a Patty Griffin show. I deserved it, but I loved every minute of it.
I believe it. Thanks brother, you officially did the entire world a favor and because of technology countless peoples understanding of music will forever be changed...all because of you. Have fun with that mind fuck, lol
I think we all new the implications of gmule playing before Dmb at the George, but could not have imagined something so great. Same feeling for the cville spoon greatness was in the air!
Different feel to the Central Park version. Both amazing - credit to Dave M for allowing musicians free reign on their expression. Lots more technical and tonal complexity here - Central Park was so flawless and precise. Warren Haynes isn’t given the right credit for his ability.
What a compliment to Neil Young, his song writing, music and guitar playing. Many think this is his best song. The incomparable Warren Haynes ranks with the all time great guitar players, and the Dave Matthews Band shows it can play with Warren. Tim Reynolds playing a dueling guitar takes this song into the stratosphere.
Gives me the chills man.. brings me back to when I saw DMB and Neil young in the same year. 2008 epic! If only I had been lucky enough to witness Tim Reynolds and Warren Haynes' legendary rocking performance too 😭 🙌 real music will never die keep rockin and Rollin man 🙏
I come back to watch this every so often. This night was one of the greatest, in all my life. The entire weekend was amazing, but this night changed the way I hear music.
Graham Raymond the drummer is one of the best band drummers in the last 2-3 decades...top 10 easily probably more like top 5. Carter knows his way around a kit, can carry a 15-20min jam session every day of the week and flat gets down when needed.
From 8:00 - 11:20 is one of the best guitar solo battles I’ve ever seen. Both were great, their playing styles different, they complimented each other and elevated the song to another level. No one won in my opinion other than the song😃
Both were accomplished guitarists and had nothing to prove. They were playing off each other. The ear to ear grins said it all. Fucking amazing. The drummer was awesome too. The bassist kept it tight. Dave was smiling a smile of knowing it was precious. Wonderful!
When I lived in Lake Elsinore, Ca, I would often wait until the moon was fat and yellow, and she would beckon me down by the lake. I would put this song on and smoke ,slowly all the way through. As the music blared into my soul through my headphones, I would go inward and find the answers to so many problems in my life. This song is cleansing.

SPOT ON n funny!!! I just listened to the Central Park version, for the first time I think, and was shocked by its greatness then somehow ended up here and about to jump off the roof. I don't need no mo of nuttin 🥰 Central Park with a billion people jamming was pretty cool. The Gorge, wherever the heck that is, is pretty darn cool too.
I have loved the Central Park version for years but this is the 1st time that I have seen this video from the Gorge. Both are outstanding! I was lucky enough to witness live the DMB & Warren Haynes do another version of this phenomenal song with Tim Reynolds also on July 19, 2023 at Jones Beach. It was absolutely incredible!!!!
I was gonna write a bunch, about what was going through my mind about this. It's complicated. Watching great musicians, all of whom I like..much :) playing a song I like much since I was a kid back in the seventies, playing a great Neil Young song. Talk about stepping back in time with a modern cover that's fantastic. I bet Neil watches this and has a huge smile on his face.
I can't think of one good reason that this group of men should bring me to my feet, applauding loudly, whilst watching this at home...except they DO, every single time! Warren Haynes' riffs makes me cry, imagine what THIS did.
What a wonderful rendition of this amazing song. I came here to hear this from the Grace Potter rendition that is equally goose bump inducing. The collection of musicians in that one is really amazing too. Joe Satrianni is otherworldly and so is the trumpet player. I read in the comments in that video about this video and this one is definitely on par with that one too. These guys delivered a simply amazing performance. Thank goodness for whomever recorded this masterpiece.
Yes, I love this version more than any other... But nobody should take anything away from Neil - he is one of the greatest Song Writers / Story Tellers of all time...
One never "listens" to DMB and Warren play, you experience them with your soul. I'm glad I'm alive to experience them together.

As is The Church cover. Sublime
