Hey loves! I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I haven't had my hair professionally cut since my big chop! Yes, I've gone a little over 2 years trimming my own natural hair. At first, I was a little weary, but given how expensive a visit to the natural hair salon is--I decided to give it a try. And I'm glad I did! I just can't justify spending over $200 for a trim and style. Especially since most salons have to straighten your hair to do so, and those that don't charge even more. I took my time doing some research on best practices when trimming hair, and have since gotten more confident doing my own. So of course, I had to put together a tutorial. Here's a step by step video on how I trim natural hair. Let me know what you think in the comments!
thanks for posting the following video... I was looking up videos on doing your own trim and with everything that's happening with Covid-19 I'm not able to see my stylist at the moment but my hair does need a trim... I like how patient and in control you are when it came to trimming your ends...
That’s so funny I just trimmed last night lol I absolutely refuse to pay for maintenance trims. No idea why stylists find it so difficult that they need to charge an arm and leg for it. All it takes is practice.
I totally agree!!!! I have learned years ago how to trim my own hair i REFUSE to pay any hair stylist to cut my hair i don’t care how good they are lol I even did my own big chop and have not looked back since that was 7 years ago!!!!
Thank you for this video I love it 🥰 people has making it seem like your hair has to be straightened in order for a trim!!!!! And it’s annoying because, I don’t like having heat on my hair 💯
I’ve been trimming my own hair too since big chop about 15months now .. I usually twist first then snip/dust the ends.. I think it’s doing well 😊 I love your method tho! Will try next time
Just took out my locs about 6 months ago just been trying to grow it out. I’ve had them in braids for the past almost 6 months off and on. I’m taking them out today definitely going to clip my ends this time before I braid it back up. ❤
I maintenance trim my own hair but will get a real trim once a year…. My maintenance trim has my hair crazy uneven but I never care cause twist outs don’t show it lol
Simply gorgeous girl, and your hair is really healthy I want to try that leave in conditioner, I always trim my own hair for the past 9 years . I press it once in summer and once in the winter, because I do protective styles. Thanks for this info my love..
Excellent how you trimmed the back not so easy to get the angle. I trim my hair one to four times a year no more than four but I like the beautician do it. I don’t trust myself.
How often do you get a proper stylist trim to keep the shape of your cut as you maintain the trim every few months? My fav are your twist out tutorials :)
Just ran across your channel, I’m loving your content! This video is very helpful....I was gonna wait to get my hair clipped by a professional, but I might can handle it myself❤️
Girl, them comb and hairdryer technique is stressful and so time consuming, that's the reason why I'm gonna buy me and my sisters this Christmas the Revlon one step blow dry brush. It has different temperatures and it's so easy to use. Some people blow-dry their hair in 15 and some in 2 minutes. But the results are so amazing. I hope I've helped you in any shape or form.❤️💕❤️💕 (and no it won't give you heat damage)
I've always clipped my ends after I twist it and it dries for a few days...I might try this method nxt time thooooo...really dnt want to straighten it just for a trim...love it gurlll😍🥰🙃

Nice! That sounds like a good method too!
I like the way you trimmed your hair. I never thought about turning your head to trim. It probably will give a more clean cut.💜
Thank you! And yes, it helps to get a straighter line!
Thank you for this video!!!!!! You have given me the courage to trim my hair! Love your videos😍!
Rochelle Williams yay! Just take your time and only do it if you feel very comfortable. It’s been my saving grace 🙌🏾

I actually haven't gotten my hair trimmed or cut by a stylist in over 2 years. I'm hoping to later on this year. And thank you! Glad you enjoy them :)

Thanks for that because I’m a Naturalicious girl👌🏾
Kathy Flemmings nice! I just started using their products!
I love it I cut my hair every 3 month
Nice, thats a good routine to have!
Very beautiful!! Did you do a twist out or a braid out
Daffany Rose-Gilbert thank you!! I did a twist out
Loved the video! Have you ever tried trimming on stretched hair ( like after a twist out)?
I'd probably trim it on straight or blown out hair, not twist out because i'd want it to be as even as possible
does the type of scissors matter?
Just as long as they are hair shears and not regular scissors. Also, they should be nice and sharp.
Very very nice! Your hair looks amazingly healthy and shiny! Great video
Thank you so so much! So glad you enjoyed it!
Wheww, this hair!!!!
Haha! Thanks!
