Thank you for sharing! I really like your method and you demonstrated it very thorough. I have a trim coming up soon and I’m going to try this. My top section is like you described yours, it’s thinner and seems to be growing slower. I just turned it into a curly bang. This is the best trimming video I’ve seen.

Like you, I too have Female Pattern Alopecia. I also have a double whammy, with medication induced hair fall. So, I am definitely interested how you have managed the issue. Thanks much!
I've been trimming my own hair since many years ago. I don't straighten or blow dry so don't mind if it's not even lol Unfortunately I was not lucky with hairdressers NEVER so I just take care of my own hair and yes I've cut more than enough sometimes but never as disastrous as when I paid to get it done by someone else. My experiences were bad made me feel that they really didn't care about what I wanted neither about my hair just getting the job done feeling entitled. Sad but true. I do stretch my hair sometimes so I would utilize your tips thank you so much Karen you are a blessing❤🎉
You are so welcome! I can do curly trims as well, but that's a little more difficult to teach as it is very difficult to see the split ends with curly hair. But I"m so sorry about your poor experiences. I always listened to my clients when it came to trims. Even if the client wasn't ready to remove all of the split ends, I would do it in stages. I"ve always believe that you meet people where they are. But if you have been trimming your hair for years now -- I"m sure you do it like a pro! 💇🏽♀️
Also, if you really focus on your fingers when pulling upward/outward, you can literally feel the point where your hair thins indicating where you need to trim. Great video!

Ur hair is so beautiful 🥰! I'm happy to report that I have been doing my own trims! And doing them correctly according 2 this video. I can also tell when I've done a wonderful job bcuz the brush or comb glides through my hair versus fighting the very tool that is supposed to assist if u will. My hair always seemed 2 look like it grew, like right after I trim it. I am loving on my natural hair these days! I've found a way to stretch my hair giving it a blowout look. It's so easy 2 brush my hair everyday & 2 c no fairy knots or shedding. Well it just blows me away in mighty way!
Hi Nichelle! Thanks for responding! Awesome awesome awesome that you are trimming on your own! I was so hoping this video wasn't too technical! Now do share -- tell me about your 'no heat' stretching?
@@KarenofCurlHouse Absolutely! I'm actually air drying right now actually. I normally part my hair into 4 parts and twist. Bcuz I am high porosity, I tend to add my diy oil on wet ends 2 seal the deal. If I need 2 run out I simply place a silk scarf. Depending on what I have on my hair then I might wear a plastic cap then silk scarf to cover. Once my hair is dry and full of moisture I can brush or comb and style.
Thank you so much for this video!! I would love to see a video on how to properly blow dry your hair at home to prep for your trim also 😊 I also would love to know the differences of how the hair would be sectioned off if you have bangs. I have bangs and Grace framing pieces in the front. One last thing, do you have a video on humectants and natural hair? I live in a very high humid state, and I’m wondering if I’m doing my hair justice by not using humectants. I try not to use products with them High on the list because I also have high porosity hair. So my logic is, since my cuticle is already lifted, I don’t need to utilize humectants that’ll lift my hair further in high humidity and draw too much moisture in. But that’s just my logic, lol. I would love to know what your thoughts are on that.
Love this video. I would like to see how you trim on shorter hair. My hair is about an inch or two. The process I’m sure is a little different I guess. Thank u!
Hi Rere! Yes. Shorter hair is much harder to do on your own because it can't be stretched as much to see it from the front. You would need to take a mirror. I will put this video on my list of videos to do. But .. I gotta think about this one! Yall definitely like to give me a good challenge! LOL!

I am so scared to do this 😢but I have no other choice. I will be using your tips and following your video every step of the way. Pray for me 🙌🏽. I’ll be doing mine this week.
Hey there! Don’t worry about the regular scissors. Just monitor your ends as you MAY need to do another trim sooner than normal but you may not. Just get your hair shears for your next trim and you should be fine 🤗
I truly appreciate the depth that you’ve explained how to cut hair at home. Every detail is mentioned. Thank you! ❤️🫶🏽❤️ The explanation is paired with the “whys” and the “why nots”, so helpful! 😊❤😊
Hi Karen I'm writing you back, I had bad experience in 2001, using dark and lovely hair relaxers. my sisters and even the sale lady at the Sally's beauty supply store said that I had a bald spot in the back of my head.and it came from using relaxers, I resonley saw 6 black women on TV last week talking about the chemicals in hair relaxers, and that it caused cancer. I stop putting relaxers in my hair and now it's shoulder length and curly.
Yes! If guess when we just 'think' about it, relaxers felt like FIRE 🔥 on our scalp -- how could they not damage the scalp causing hair loss, not to mention the host of other issues such as cancer. But so glad you shifted and made the decision to stop relaxing! Rock your gorgeous hair!
Thanknyou for also pointing out that som hairs grow slower then others, as I have has my hair chopped off one to many times because they did not listen, and wanted to even it out....and I take care of my hair.
I used to tell my clients "You know your hair better than me as you are with your hair 24/7", so I think it's so important to LISTEN to my client. Hair doesn't have to be evened out when trimming. Keep right on taking care of your hair!
@@KarenofCurlHouse Thank you. I just wish I had someone in MD who is able to help take care of natutal hair properly. And not just want to silk press , dread/loc it, or add extensions
Thank you I did it was a little hard it's a little longer then yours on the video ,but I have a lot of hair and it's thick ,I also did clip my finger ouch 😂but not to bad bless you ,greetings from Aruba ❤😊
Great video! I will start trimming my hair like this! I think I was doing it wrong. Thank you! Also, you just gave a name to something else I have…Female Pattern Alopecia. Can you share tips on how you manage? I apologize if you’ve done a video on it already. Maybe you can direct me to it, if so. Thanks again.
Not a detailed one… I will work on one this week because many people have requested how I’ve been able to maintain my hair. It’s coming! And you are very welcome!
Hello Sandra! I typically recommend every 3-4 months, about once per season. Here's another video I created that may help you as well. -->. ua-cam.com/video/qz_WsekLV04/v-deo.html
Hello there! Generally speaking I recommend a trim every 3 to 4 months. I have done several videos on trims on my channel where I mentioned the frequency at which you should get a trim, but forgot to say I this video 🤦🏾♀️
Good morning 😃 Yes. I cut my hair lol 😂 but it’s difficult to see because I’m left handed and my hand covers up the shears 🤦🏾♀️. Also - I trim regularly so it’s not a lot to trim. That’s how you want it to be.
@Karen of Curl House your hair is beautiful, didn't mean no harm, I just cut mostly all my hair off, I'm 64yrs and was tired of dying my hair, my hair is thin, my cut looks great, but still have the discolored ends on the tip of my hair at the top. Just waiting a couple of months to get rid of that ugly color at the ends, and I'm good. So I don't look like a boy. But I love me gray hair. And I live your tutorials. Stay blessed.
I have followed a couple of people who trim their hair at home. Yours covered the top and back more thoroughly. Much appreciated. The last time I let a stylist trim my hair it was uneven and I thought to myself I have done it better myself in the past. I will definitely use your techniques. Thanks so much. New subie!!!
Thank you for this tutorial. Getting my hair trimmed was the only reason to go to the hair stylist. And it cost way to much just for a trim. Now I won't need to go to a stylist anymore .
Thank you for showing that! Its such a drag to pay $70 in essence just to have someone trim your ends. I can wash and blow dry my own hair but I pay to have it done just so I can get it trimmed.
The hair needed to trim off some more. The ends were still so thin and stringy. People afraid to trim their ends properly. I would've trimmed off a little more to achieve a fuller look.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, SO SO MUCH for this detailed and easy to follow tutorial!!! I have been looking for this for so long- this info is very needed! I will be referring back to this repeatedly. I recently found your channel and subscribed. I appreciate you sharing your expertise. Future video ideas: I would like to see a video on how to cut mens/short hair too. I'd like to be able to trim my husband and son's hair. Also, how to upkeep dreadlocks style and properly care for scalp and hair in dreadlocks. I'd also like your opinion on the pros and cons/outcome differences of cutting hair while wet vs dry curly vs dry blown out. Some salons use different techniques. Which technique is appropriate for which type of hair/curl pattern?
Excellent instructional video. All your videos are educational and I have learned so much about my own natural hair and how to better manage it. Thanks!
I heard what you said about the pattern baldness but you really needed to trim more to reduce the thinness on the ends of your hair on the top. It would make it look much more dense and healthier.
GURL...THANK YOU this is a MUCH NEEDED VIDEO because even some stylist don't know the difference between a cut and a trim 😅

@@KarenofCurlHouse I'm going to look for it! Have a great week!
Ms. Karen your hair is amazingly Gorgeous 😍! Thank you for the tips! I love been natural! I'm now a subscriber of your channel! ❤
Thanks for subbing! Welcome to the Curl House Community 💜. I appreciate the compliment!
I am so scared to do this 😢but I have no other choice. I will be using your tips and following your video every step of the way. Pray for me 🙌🏽. I’ll be doing mine this week.
The best thing you can do is TAKE YOUR TIME! Don’t rush it! and remember - less is more! You got this 💪🏾
@@KarenofCurlHouse thank you so much 😊. You are right- less is more.
Just what I needed. Thank you sis.
You are so welcome 💜🙌🏾
Awesome❤Content!!✂️
Yay! Fabulous!
👍👍👍👍 amazing!!! Girl you rock!!!! Thank you again!!!
You are very welcome 🤗
I used regular scizzors yesterday's. Im gonna go purchase some good affordable hair shears, can I reverse potential damage?
Thank you! ❤️🫶🏽❤️
The explanation is paired with the “whys” and the “why nots”, so helpful!
😊❤😊
You are so welcome! I appreciate it! 🙌🏾
It sure was
Loved the video.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Absolutely awesome video i just did my trim while watching u snd i have to say your beautiful ❤
Thank you! Absolutely helpful
You're welcome! 🙌🏾💜
So informative thank you so much...question how did you do the curls my hair is about your length and it's grey and soft.
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/GZ_FoAXUGJo/v-deo.html
Do you use the same process if your hair is not straight?
Subbed when you trimmed the hairline cuz not even professional stylists do that these days!
Hahahaha! Thank you much! I am a licensed cosmetologist and I thought we “all” did the hairline 🤷🏽♀️ Taught me something 😂
@@Nyotakikora1 What part it Maryland? Try Ayana at the Outbar salon. I’m not sure where you are in Maryland though.
@@KarenofCurlHouse Close per say to Baltimore. But I shall look her up! Thank you ma'am
I love this video!!Thanks😀
Yassss!! Awesome!
Karen, this was good. 👍🏾
My hair is the same length as yours. 😊
Yay! Have fun doing your own trim!
Very helpful video. Thanks

Thank you I did it was a little hard it's a little longer then yours on the video ,but I have a lot of hair and it's thick ,I also did clip my finger ouch 😂but not to bad bless you ,greetings from Aruba ❤😊
Fabulous! It certainly takes some practice but more you do it the easier it will be! Congrats on successfully trimming your hair!
@@KarenofCurlHouse yeah ,I think so thank you my sister im new to your channel ,love it ,bless you shalom ❤🙏
Thank you so much. ❤
Thank you for the information.
You are very welcome 🤗
Awesome. Thank you!
You're welcome!
What product do you use before blow drying your hair
Hi Phyllis! I spray the Curl House Leave In Conditioner, followed by Design Essential Agave Leave Thermal Protector Serum. It does the trick!
How often should we trim our hair? Thanks ❤
Hello Sandra! I typically recommend every 3-4 months, about once per season. Here's another video I created that may help you as well. -->. ua-cam.com/video/qz_WsekLV04/v-deo.html
Thank you so much!!😊❤
You are very welcome!
Can you show a video teaching us how to cut long layers in our hair for beginners?🥰
Hello there! Yes. I will put it on the list of videos..
@@KarenofCurlHouse thank you!!!looking forward to it!!!😊
Thank you ❤❤😊😊
No problem!!
What if you have short hair?
Hi I'm looking for your video on how to do cut long layers in natural hair for beginners?😊
Noted! Its on the list
😅😅🤣🤣🤣 Hilarious EXACTLY 💯
"Don't use the sheers you use to cut chicken" . . . LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
😂😂🙌🏾
How often is a regular trim? Every week? Every two weeks?
Hello there! Generally speaking I recommend a trim every 3 to 4 months. I have done several videos on trims on my channel where I mentioned the frequency at which you should get a trim, but forgot to say I this video 🤦🏾♀️
Is there a way of inboxing you?
Sure thing … info@curlhouse.com
Hey Karen
Hey Edward!!
Good video, but I don't feel like this was a trim, but more of a dusting of the ends.
Thank you!
Wow, you’re actress Kim Hamilton’s twin.
I had to look her up and I can see the resemblance! Thanks!!!
You’re not even cutting anything.
Y’all love to talk. Stop talking so much it’s irritating. Still thumbs up 👍
Gurl..... you didn't trim nothing.
Yes I did! LOL 😂. I trim regularly so I don't have to alot. Thanks for commenting!
@KarenofCurlHouse Seems as if a lot of work😫
hahah! It certainly can be...but you can always go to a professional ...can't go wrong there!
Great info; however, for short styles I don’t think that this addresses.
Yasss! 🙌🏾 Thank you so much!!
I did it and I’m loving it. Can definitely do this every 3 months.
@@Listen2me400 fabulous!!! Thanks for giving an update!
Thank you for this tutorial. Getting my hair trimmed was the only reason to go to the hair stylist. And it cost way to much just for a trim. Now I won't need to go to a stylist anymore .
You are so welcome! Save that money! And keep your hair fabulous at the same time! 💜
Thank you for showing that! Its such a drag to pay $70 in essence just to have someone trim your ends. I can wash and blow dry my own hair but I pay to have it done just so I can get it trimmed.
ABSOLUTELY!! You are so welcome!
EXCELLENT TEACHER!❤
Thank you Dana!
Your hair looks great!
Oh thank you!
The hair needed to trim off some more. The ends were still so thin and stringy. People afraid to trim their ends properly. I would've trimmed off a little more to achieve a fuller look.
Hey there! I trim less towards the front but do trim it regularly. Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks for showing us how to do this step by step. Appreciate it.
Glad it was helpful! Yay!!!
Thanks!
You are so welcome! I really appreciate it!!
I heard what you said about the pattern baldness but you really needed to trim more to reduce the thinness on the ends of your hair on the top. It would make it look much more dense and healthier.
Thank you so much! I love your channel. Such a sweet and inviting personality❤
Thank you so much!!
