My Top 10 Favorite Video Games

- With three decades of gaming under my belt, the moment has finally arrived: My Top 10 Favorite Video Games of All Time.
Act shocked - I’m going to use this description space to ACTUALLY describe what went into this video - which was a lot.
CAPTURE PROCESS:
The vast majority of video-game footage that you see here - about 99% - I decided to capture myself. As some of these titles are a bit older, I COULD have sought out sharper-looking versions, and in most cases…
I did not do that…
Just to make YOU mad.
The process definitely took some time - a month or two - where I just recorded these games on my off-time, and that’s AFTER I had taken the time to really narrow down and organize the list to 10.
Overall, a time-consuming but outrageously fun time.
EDITING:
Here’s where the REAL challenge came in. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a full-time video editor, and sometimes the last thing I want to do when I get home from work is open up Final Cut and go nuts.
So that was the first obstacle.
Apart from being the longest video I’ve made for this channel, which I knew, going in, was going to be a lengthy editing process, each numbered entry had to have its own style in a way. You can’t really edit something like Dark Souls the same as Super Mario Sunshine. As a result, I had to keep experimenting with styles that really highlighted each game’s vibe.
FUN FACTS:
No. 8 really gave me the resources to be more cinematic with the edit. So much so that I was able to rebuild one of the game’s original trailers using my OWN footage - which was a blast.
No. 7 allowed me to pay homage to one of my favorite video-game reviews of all time - a true inspiration for my current career.
No. 4 has a direct quote from a Gametrailers.com retrospective, referenced in my script, that I also took a TON of inspiration from growing up in regards to editing style and pacing.
CONCLUSION:
Overall, it was just a wildly time-consuming process from beginning to end…all of it done on my off-time. That said, out of all of the videos I’ve made, I think I might be most proud of this one, so thanks for watching.

What I really love about this video is just how incredibly engrossing you've made it as an experience. From the marriage of gameplay to the enthusiasm in your voice to the music choices and how they swell and flow, there's this really cinematic experience to watching it, a flow that just makes it so easy to enjoy and is a lot different from the usual vibe of Top 10 lists that tend to have sudden stops for jokes and the like. It's a delightful time that makes me really appreciate what's being put out, even if I disagree with the assessment (there IS a perfect video game thank you and it's 1996's Kirby Super Star, timeless masterpiece, the rest of the world will catch up to my opinion someday), I am just enthralled to hear your experience and even reconsider picking up some games again that I haven't played or thought about in years. Really just wonderful stuff!

I really liked how all the clips used in between list items were for different games. So many list videos only use clips from those 10 games and it spoils what the upcoming entries are. Here I had no idea. It was a great way of incorporating honorable mentions or heaping praise on games for doing X well before you revealed what did X best!

I cant decide what are my favorite games I feel I haven't played enough. Also I haven't decided what criteria would work. I don't understand how people can actually make these lists. Im impressed by the sheer will it must take.
In all fairness, not everyone loves making lists or ranking things -- I definitely think it's a personality based thing, as strange as that sounds.
One of the first things I ask when meeting new people is, "So what's your favorite movie?" And I'd say half the time, most simply don't have an answer or haven't given it any thought, which is perfectly fine.
As far as criteria goes, I'd recommend making your own. Which games make you the most happy? Which ones are you most nostalgic for? Which ones have you played the most?
There are no wrong answers; it's YOUR list! So have fun!

@danyawelly Thank you for the kind words. I enjoyed the video greatly. I struggle because I can list a bunch of games but they're from across my whole life and I feel I've moved past some of them. Is your current list of favorites definitive or is it subject to change as you play more games?
Nah, nothing is too definitive here; opinions and preferences change with time. That's what makes lists like these so fun: Looking back and seeing what you loved and why you loved it!
As for "moving past" some of those games you enjoyed in the past -- my made-up criteria for lists like these tends to focus on games that I don't "move past." I chose games that I genuinely could play any day of the week and love, warts and all.

Great video and list! The Jak and Daxter trilogy is one of my fav games series ever! All my friends had a 64 and played ocarina of time. I was the kid with a PS2 playing Jak and Daxter.
