I can totally understand why somebody would prefer less gratuitous violence, even if they're okay with (or even enjoy) graphic violence.
"You have to construct the story like an archaeologist, using dialogue and lore... The series tells stories in a way a book never could." Anybody who agrees with this statement should give Outer Wilds (Different from The Outer Worlds!) a look. It's on the indie side of things, but the gameplay is about figuring things out, and is the best I've seen that done (though it doesn't have anything in the way of action because of that.) Also maybe Hollow Knight. Most non-Dark Souls Dark Souls game.
Yup! Outer Wilds is absolutely incredible. Some of the best exploration I've ever seen. Great unique and cool sci-fi concepts I bet Brandon would be very into. And the piecing together of information is incredible. It's essentially an Information Metroidvania.
11:42 "...and I can still remember the feeling of the birds chirping outside, realizing I'd been playing all night..." I'm glad everyone that really plays Civ has experienced this phenomena! Much love Brandon, love your work. Currently reading Words of Radiance!
I had a friend experience this one night when he saw me playing Civ and I convinced him to have a go. And he wasn't the type that played video games at all, Civ is just awesome like that. I'm reading Oathbringer currently, hope you're enjoying WoR, it was soooooooo damn good!
I absolutely love his preface to this video and the fact that he included his rules. He's seriously such an intelligent and thoughtful person. I would just rattle off the first several games that come to mind and then keep adding them so you ended up with a list of 50 to 60 of my top 10 favorite games.
Lot's of comments here are going to be about the list itself, but I just want to say that the part I appreciate most is that you admit that such art is subjective, and that just because something didn't make your list doesn't mean it shouldn't make someone else's. I'll never forget being in your class a couple years back and calling out Mistborn's magic system for being one (of a couple) reasons I couldn't get through it. I said that it lacked wonder (in a room overfilled with SanderFans-I got lots of glares and gasps out of people). You said almost verbatim what you said at the end of this video, and I've always appreciated that. I've shared this particular anecdote several times now (even on the Worldcasting Podcast [which we'd love to have you on, if you ever read this comment!]) and usually in the light that some people ought to learn to love what they love. Both as a consumer and a creator, you should seek out or create the things that make you happy. If nobody has told you that, random reader/writer/artist/etc., just know that it's okay to love something different from the masses-and caela knows, you're probably not alone in that love!
I guessed Brandon would have played a lot of games, You can see a lot of his magic systems, especially in Stormlight have mild inspirations from video game ideas like the health bar, mana bar etc. He also balances his systems similar to video games like how windrunners can fly faster than voidbringers but voidbringers can maneuver better so you have an asymmetrical game balance.
Halo 2 has the hardest Legendary for multiplayer since one death brings both players back to the last checkpoint. But when playing alone, I'd think it's about the same as 1 and 3
I appreciate how candid this is. Really feels like human talking about what they're passionate about and not just a celebrity making a story about how they've always loved [insert franchise they're currently working on], due to experiencing it as a child for 30 seconds
I hadn't heard of [Hades] but I just watched a Review. Love the Greek theme. Might pick it up on Switch to play during lunch at work. Edit: clarified the game I was talking about.
@@thomasray Hades, still watching a review on Pyre. Both have a bit of an underworld theme. But Pyre is either an original setting or obscure enough I can't identify it.
Love to see a writer who appreciates games that tell their story in a uniquely video game way rather than just copying the methods of film and literature like the majority do. Trying to understand dark souls lore feels like archaeology.
Just listening to Brandon, enjoying myself, and then suddenly I’m confronted with ‘Nam flashbacks of desperately trying to beat Halo 2 on legendary with my friend. Doing it alone? That just doesn’t sound fun. Legendary on 2 was brutal, man!
I played it through on legendary when it released earlier this year on PC MCC. While the jackal snipers are bullshit, the amount of beam rifles you get access to because of them otherwise alleviates a lot of the difficulty. That said, still the hardest to complete on legendary.
@@16m49x3 no way man way easier to beat co-op, if one of you die you DONT go back to the checkpoint one can get to safety and revive. Solo is WAY harder

When he mentioned outer worlds, I thought he was referring to outer wilds for a second. But yes, I would love to hear his thoughts on outer wilds. It's such a good game
I came here to say this and of course I'd been beaten since the game has collected such a cult following 😂 I would say the absolute best experience with Outer Wilds is to go in completely blind - as in, not even having read or seen anything about the game but its title. Someone else bought me the game to give me that experience, and I think that helped me connect more with what the player character would have been feeling.
Wait a moment, previously Brandon said that he rewrote the stories of his favorite games to better suit his tastes and improve the narrative structure... is there a Brandon game(*fan*)fiction archive somewhere?
A lot of authors talk trash about games-- which is a horrible thing to do. Sanderson is cool, because he plays games and recognizes them as an artform. He even knows the indie companies, which is crazy!!!
This was the most pleasant "Top 10 list..." I've watched. It may not have been as deep or insightful as Noah Caldwell-Gervais (It's 17.5 minutes, I don't expect it to be!), but it was pleasant to listen to, and that's worth mentioning.
I was going to write a comment with something like "have you played Elden Ring already?", but then I searched UA-cam and you have many videos on the game by now. I've played some 40 hours of the game, but then I've left the Xbox with my dad (he also likes to play games) so I'm waiting maybe next year to buy another one to continue playing lol I play a lot of games, and I'm always going through gaming news even about games I don't play, but there is something magical and grand about Elden Ring that seems to put it in another level. It's like playing on a very beautiful canvas, in a very rich magical world. Great list! Thanks for sharing
Final Fantasy has been the series I grew up with and FFX is by far my favorite and the one I stockpiled countless hours of play on. As you said the full voice over switch was massive, the storyline immersive and very bittersweet. Also it had THE BEST minigame ever in Blitzball! I probably have more hours playing blitzball than 90% of any other game I have ever played. IX is my second favorite which could be an unpopular opinion and yes, I am a bit biased since it is my entry point in the franchise, but the cartoon style mixed with very deep characters facing growth, belonging, purpose has struck me very deeply. Love to know you are a fan too. And here I thought I could not be more of a fan of you and your work.
@@Stars-Sapphire Not being as good is not the same as being garbage. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though and you are perfectly entitled to being wrong :)
DAO is fabulous, one of my top five all time. The characterization and plot are so solid. DA2? Nope. The story is far weaker with several dramatic opportunities squandered, and a lame antagonist. I think the writers ran out of time on that game.
Wait Brando wrote the infinity blade book?!?! Today I accidentally learned that I read a Sanderson book earlier than I realized. I was a big InfinityBlade fan back in the day. I played all the games as soon as they came out and read the book when it released too. I got into Sanderson only a few years ago but apparently I read his stuff over 10 YEARS AGO
I recommend the Evoland series. The first game makes you feel like your building the game for yourself while the second is a fun time travel plot. Both go through the history of video games and are a love letter to video games as a whole.
Though it can be dark at times, I also think Dragon Age Origins has some really comedic moments (especially team banter dialogue once Zevran’s on haha) and great characters. I’d recommend giving it a try!
Yes I came here to say Dragon Age! I mean he likes Mass Effect but doesn't even mention the Fantasy sibling Dragon Age? I wonder if he's played it yet. 🤔
Ys was a surprise to see on the runners-up. Always nice to see people into that series, it's a great 'episodic' sort of game and still the series is going strong.
The first time I re-read Elantris after playing Dark Souls I was certain the Miyazaki must have read Elantris. There's so many story points and lore points that feel inspired. I wonder if that is the case.
@@goncaloferreira6429 SPOILERS! Both are about people who are struck by a curse (the Shaod or the undead curse) and when they are they're shipped off to place with everyone else that's cursed (Elantris or the Undead Asylum). Both involve once grand cities that now lay in ruin and are populated by immoral but curse beings. The cursed beings in both run the risk of becoming hollow shells of themselves from losing their minds, and those that don't are those that retain motivation to accomplish something. Reading it the second time I found myself picturing the slums of Elantris like the Undead Burg and the empty paths of Anor Londo.
I completely understand Brandon's point on media being too dark, it's a viewpoint that gets written off by others too often (that being said I highly recommend God of War 2018 because the tone is entirely different from the original series)
Hi Brandon, I view your channel for a couple of years already. You're a great teller, all of us enjoy listening to your stories. There is no need to read scripts word for word. You start sounding artificial, although we're here because you're so genuine and generous with content while just being yourself all the time. Maybe a bullet point plan could help if you need to rely on something. But I would love to hear about the games you play told in your usual style. We appreciate the effort to diversify the content. Please don't be afraid to tell by heart. Your fan
As a lover of Halo as well, I have to strongly recommend that you play Titanfall 2. I got into it late but it is a masterpiece of world-building, and the weapons and controls are so satisfying. The single-player campaign is short but so, so sweet. Please give it a shot, you won’t be disappointed.
Super Metroid is such a great game! The atmosphere, sense of immersion, the gentle way it leads you to explore. It really is a masterpiece! Many would find it too tedious by today’s standards, but I envy those who have never played it. The sense of reward you get from progressing in that game is really great, and by the end of it, you feel like a Bad*** having conquered something difficult. Difficult, but fair. And if you’re paying attention, actually tells a great story!
I think you'd like God of War (the new one). It's not really too dark, and has a lot of sweet and heartfelt moments since it focuses on the relationship between Kratos and his son. The combat is also quite fun, and the puzzles remind me of Zelda.
Agreed! I generally don’t play M games because they’re too violent but I made an exception for God of War and I’m glad I did! I think Brandon would like the storytelling in it as well.
@@confusedasian2212 yeah, but still hardly a puzzle and one like Zelda. Still a good game, but puzzles are mostly to help you learn how to use the axe/blades/atreus help
Monkey Island! One of us, one of us! But seriously, I immediately feel a deep primal connection to anyone who loves those games. There aren't many of us out there (at least that I've met), but that just makes our tribe all the more special. I replay them every couple years or so. While there's a load of nostalgia involved, it is seriously just an incredible series. I actually feel bad for everyone who's missing out on it. The humor and charm alone make it easily worthwhile, especially for anyone who grew up playing games in the late 80s or 90s and enjoy that oldschool era of adventure point'n'click. I definitely wouldn't be mad if I ever read a reference in one of your books. "I beat a Mistborn, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt!" And the fact you also mentioned "Shadow of the Colossus" and "Braid" compounds my appreciation of your gaming preferences all the more. All three titles make your list rich, IMO--of course I'm biased, because they're my own special favorites as well.
Amazing list. I never heard of Brandon before, but this video just popped up as a recommendation. Once I saw Katamari, I knew I was in for a unique and personal list!! My favourites that I don't see on other lists often are: Arcanum, Thirty Flights of Loving, and The Witness.
Getting hammered in the comments about the weird script and camera angles. I tend to agree, but I mean it wasn't the worst ever. And who knows maybe that style will be cool once it gets dialed in!
You mentioned you disliked stealth games, but I’m interested to see what you think of the Dishonored series. Their aesthetics, story and world. After recently reading Mistborn, they kinda give me similar feelings. Aesthetics wise and the use of specific, limited magic.
A series I've always thought has good storytelling and strong characters that sadly do not get the kind of attention it deserves is Legacy of Kain(Blood Omen 1 & 2, Soul Reaver 1 & 2 and lastly Defiance). The main writer has after all gone on to write games like Uncharted and The Last of Us. Great voice acting as well. And I would dearly love to get a friggin' conclusion to it as well.
There won't be another series like LOK. Sunk so many hours into it. It's like a masterclass in video game voice acting and atmosphere. I love Soulslikes, but its piece together story style would benefit with a style similar to LOK, like the overarching cutscenes that increase the tension, and provide great insight into the characters ideology.
LoK was a big part of my life absolutely loved it, anytime I could get online I ended up searching for concept art, fan art, lore. Blood Omen 2 was possibly one of my favourite. Killing Umah was heartbreaking!
Yeah, that's a series that never quite got the chance to live up to its potential - compromises, cut corners and executive meddling all over the place. It's amazing the games turned out as merely flawed rather than actively bad.
Civ and Undertale are the only games on this list I wouldn't put on my own, it's not even that I don't like the games. its no wonder your work resonates so much for me, the stories you enjoy seem to be the ones I enjoy as well. Also I love how open you are and how much you try to connect with your audience, it's so refreshing and genuine. Thank you for everything!
Brandon, you have got to try Outer Wilds (different game from The Outer Worlds). It's a space exploration game that evokes a sense of discovery and wonder more than just about any other game I've played. Breath of the Wild is the only game that does this as well for me. It tells such a beautiful story, but it's all up to the player to decide how and when they want to discover that story.
I love to hear you chat about board games! Mistborn and Reckoners are really fun; I haven’t gotten Stormlight to the table yet, but I’d love to hear you talk about your games as well as games you love! Thanks for all the entertainment!
Now that the Mass Effect trilogy has a solid remaster, im curious have you played it yet? If so it would be fun to hear your thoughts in a video like this
This video popped up in my feed shortly after hearing about your comments about how you should have worked on Elden Ring, agreed even before watching this but now agree even more, love to see a writer who takes video games seriously enough to enjoy them and recognize that they are another great way to tell a story
Narratively, Red Dead as a whole, especially 2 after having played 1, is the single best piece of entertainment and best story I have ever consumed. I can’t stress that enough.
I don't know. Narratively, I feel like Red Dead should have been a movie. It did very little to take advantage of the interactivity of the medium imo. It's a collection of compelling story sections, sandwiched in between shooting galleries. Still a good game, but nothing earth shattering for me. As far as gameplay serving the story goes, I really love Outer Wilds, Return of the Obra Dinn, Hades, Celeste, Bioshock, Hollow Knight, and Mass Effect. There's something about exploring Rapture or Hollownest yourself and piecing together what happened that no book or movie can recreate.
@@sterlingmuse5808 It's a game you can play whilst never being noticed by the enemy or you can go on a killing spree and kill literally every enemy you come across. There's a lot of freedom in how you tackle the various levels. Very replayable.
Brandon, do you know a way to write without stress or depression getting in the way? I started writing 3 months ago and i used to be able to write entertaining yet simple stories, but i ended up getting into a bad situation and now i cant write well since my stress keeps getting in the way and it ruins my stories.
The Civilization series has stolen more hours of my life than any other... starting probably in 1996. In regards to character development, writing, and voice acting, I think the best ever BY FAR is the Mass Effect series. All 3 of the original series are phenomenal. Mass Effect 2, IMO, is the single best console RPG of all time.
The Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy is actually kinda similar to the cosmere in the way they do large-scale worldbuilding. Each game in the trilogy takes place on a different planet with their own quirks and its own standalone story to tell, but if you play all three it gradually unveils a grander story that connects everything together. The ending of 3's prequel DLC even implies a connection to the Xenosaga series.

It's the only game in the entire franchise I couldn't do on Legendary
Branderson: "...i make sure to have a few mods to tone done the graphic content...(for)...fallout..."
Also Branderson: describes how steel inquisitors are made, making sure to emphasize the incredible amounts of blood
I mean, there's a difference between a dark moment at a specific time in a story. And heads exploding literally once a minute

Also: It's okay to not like things that are similar to things you like :P
For me, the arbitrary line is "cringe humour"
Most of the time I can't enjoy it. I empathise too strongly with the targets (even if they're fictional)
But I still enjoy slapstick and even genuinely *dark* jokes, which I'm sure are objectively worse than simple embarrassment.
I can totally understand why somebody would prefer less gratuitous violence, even if they're okay with (or even enjoy) graphic violence.
Yeah... this is a good point. That was some hard reading.
AND MARSH DROVE THE SPIKE THROUGH THE TERRISMANS CHEST LETTING THE BLOOD FLOW OVER THE BODY UNDERNEATH... yeah Brando ima need a mod for that
"You have to construct the story like an archaeologist, using dialogue and lore... The series tells stories in a way a book never could."
Anybody who agrees with this statement should give Outer Wilds (Different from The Outer Worlds!) a look. It's on the indie side of things, but the gameplay is about figuring things out, and is the best I've seen that done (though it doesn't have anything in the way of action because of that.)
Also maybe Hollow Knight. Most non-Dark Souls Dark Souls game.
Man, yeah, Outer Wilds is an amazing experience. It’s a shame that so many people slept on it.
Hollow Knight is a Metroidvania with Dark Souls-style storytelling, and it works VERY well with both.
Can confirm! Outer Wilds does an excellent job of subtle storytelling and weaving it into exploration.
Yup! Outer Wilds is absolutely incredible. Some of the best exploration I've ever seen. Great unique and cool sci-fi concepts I bet Brandon would be very into. And the piecing together of information is incredible. It's essentially an Information Metroidvania.
I concur. Also as civs are at the top: paradox games (though they maybe too battle/military oriented). Especially Stellaris.
"We all have inexplicable lines that we don't cross, and I try not to judge the lines that others have drawn." Respect.

I'm glad everyone that really plays Civ has experienced this phenomena!
I love how universal that phenomena is to Civilization fans. :D
I absolutely love his preface to this video and the fact that he included his rules. He's seriously such an intelligent and thoughtful person. I would just rattle off the first several games that come to mind and then keep adding them so you ended up with a list of 50 to 60 of my top 10 favorite games.
In an alternate timeline, where you had more free time and were so inclined, I would happily watch you stream any of these as you rambled.
I feel like Brandon would absolutely love Disco Elysium. Amazing writing, worldbuilding, and ambiance.
Both the saddest and funniest game I've ever played
I guessed Brandon would have played a lot of games, You can see a lot of his magic systems, especially in Stormlight have mild inspirations from video game ideas like the health bar, mana bar etc. He also balances his systems similar to video games like how windrunners can fly faster than voidbringers but voidbringers can maneuver better so you have an asymmetrical game balance.
Its almost like some of his books are aching to become videogames
Brandon: I'm a fan of hard games, but only if it's hard but fair
Also Brandon: the only Halo game I beat on Legendary was Halo 2
I only beat Halo 1 on legendary
That explains so much about him doing UA-cam and writing all the books
I did 1 and 2. Not really sure it was worth the constant replaying lol
I only did Halo 3 when I was like 12. Just for the achievement.
Halo 2 has the hardest Legendary for multiplayer since one death brings both players back to the last checkpoint. But when playing alone, I'd think it's about the same as 1 and 3
"That still happens and has happened for every game in the series"
Why is Brandon still finding himself in other dudes dorm rooms in the morning?
Mind your business maybe, lol
😝
The more I watch his channel the more I freaking love Brandon Sanderson.
I appreciate how candid this is. Really feels like human talking about what they're passionate about and not just a celebrity making a story about how they've always loved [insert franchise they're currently working on], due to experiencing it as a child for 30 seconds
Civ in a nutshell: "Just one more turn, I swear."
Any good game in that genre is going to be like that. I had the same "problem" playing Heroes of Might and Magic games for years.
You should try Hades. It has a really unique dynamic story 'system' of sorts, which allows it to be a roguelike WITH a story.
Or Everspace.
@@FeinryelRavenclaw PYRE
I hadn't heard of [Hades] but I just watched a Review. Love the Greek theme. Might pick it up on Switch to play during lunch at work.
Edit: clarified the game I was talking about.
@@gabrielr7511 pyre? Or hades?
I'd argue Halo 2 Legendary would be easier alone, because 1 mistake takes you back to the checkpoint anyway.
Solo is WAY harder

not in Halo 2
Brandon Sanderson has shockingly good taste, and I have no idea when he has the time to play these games.
In another video he mentions his schedule. And after his second writing session ends around 2AM, he plays for a couple of hours before bed & sleeps til noon
He plays exactly like the rest of people, when he is not working.
He should definitely play Outer Wilds. Fantastic.
When he mentioned outer worlds, I thought he was referring to outer wilds for a second. But yes, I would love to hear his thoughts on outer wilds. It's such a good game
I came here to say this and of course I'd been beaten since the game has collected such a cult following 😂
I would say the absolute best experience with Outer Wilds is to go in completely blind - as in, not even having read or seen anything about the game but its title. Someone else bought me the game to give me that experience, and I think that helped me connect more with what the player character would have been feeling.
Everyone should play Outer Wilds
It’s an absolute crime he didn’t mention it. I’m sure if he played it he’d love it
Absolutely!
Wait a moment, previously Brandon said that he rewrote the stories of his favorite games to better suit his tastes and improve the narrative structure... is there a Brandon game(*fan*)fiction archive somewhere?
That would be amazing.
Ooo...good question. I'm curious.
I’m loving what Brandon is doing with his channel. Such great content!
A lot of authors talk trash about games-- which is a horrible thing to do. Sanderson is cool, because he plays games and recognizes them as an artform.
He even knows the indie companies, which is crazy!!!
Not used to see you reading from a script, Brandon
Yeah, it's a little weird.
Makes things easier and faster, id imagine.
Nah, he just sounds off because he had a psychic battle with a greater demon while recording this. He has a really tight schedule
It was really weird
Felt very mechanical and rushed to me
His sentence structure even when he talks is like we are in a book. I love it.
he's reading a script here
@@J.a.c.o.b I did notice that afterwards lol
After watching this list I feel like Nacho Libre: "You gotta be kidding me... Everything you just said is MY favorite thing to do, EVERY DAY"
Brandon giving some love to Dark Souls 2 is the most wholesome thing this week. That game is so underrated!!!! Brandon is such a wonderful person :)
This was the most pleasant "Top 10 list..." I've watched. It may not have been as deep or insightful as Noah Caldwell-Gervais (It's 17.5 minutes, I don't expect it to be!), but it was pleasant to listen to, and that's worth mentioning.
Thanks Brandon.
When I'm an author I'm definitely gonna want to be as connected to my community as you are Brandon
I was going to write a comment with something like "have you played Elden Ring already?", but then I searched UA-cam and you have many videos on the game by now. I've played some 40 hours of the game, but then I've left the Xbox with my dad (he also likes to play games) so I'm waiting maybe next year to buy another one to continue playing lol
I play a lot of games, and I'm always going through gaming news even about games I don't play, but there is something magical and grand about Elden Ring that seems to put it in another level.
Trust me. You opinion on 9 is not an unpopular one. 9 is about as universally loved as 6 and 7
Recommendation
Dragon Age: Origins
and the others. But I love DAO and the world building
I honestly like nr 2 as well
@@Stars-Sapphire Not being as good is not the same as being garbage.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though and you are perfectly entitled to being wrong :)
I really tried to get into that game, but the gameplay is really boring.
DAO is fabulous, one of my top five all time. The characterization and plot are so solid. DA2? Nope. The story is far weaker with several dramatic opportunities squandered, and a lame antagonist. I think the writers ran out of time on that game.
Based on this list, I think Brandon would like Portal 2 for the very reason of world building and the fact that there is a very subtle plot.
Also Hollow Knight. You gotta pay close attention to piece together the story.
And humor. And considering he likes FPS he should play Half-life 2
Wait Brando wrote the infinity blade book?!?!
I love how he had a "next 10" and extras section for his list. The way he answers questions in Q&A's is also great
I recommend the Evoland series. The first game makes you feel like your building the game for yourself while the second is a fun time travel plot. Both go through the history of video games and are a love letter to video games as a whole.
When it comes to story telling, I don't think I've ever been as engrossed in a game story like I was for the Soul Reaver (Legacy of Kain) games.
"Chromo Trigger"
THE PAIN, IT HURST MY SOUL
at least he tried it lol
also, if only he liked stealth games... MGS would definitely have to be there
Trigger, cross, ff 9 and 10 are my favorite rpg games! So good!
Though it can be dark at times, I also think Dragon Age Origins has some really comedic moments (especially team banter dialogue once Zevran’s on haha) and great characters. I’d recommend giving it a try!
Quite enjoyed Ratchet and Clank 3 for the humour and cool weapons back in the day - not sure if it still holds up but have fond memories too
Yes I came here to say Dragon Age! I mean he likes Mass Effect but doesn't even mention the Fantasy sibling Dragon Age? I wonder if he's played it yet. 🤔
Yep, was rather surprised DA wasn't at least on the honorable mentions.
Dragon age origins, was that the one that took place in Kirkwall before the Inquisition? That was the absolute best one in my opinion.
@@sendeth The one in Kirkwall is Dragon Age II. It's an awesome and very underrated game.
Ys was a surprise to see on the runners-up. Always nice to see people into that series, it's a great 'episodic' sort of game and still the series is going strong.
Really appreciate your stance on gamer preference and lines at the end. It's true we all have our own, and it can even change over time.
The first time I re-read Elantris after playing Dark Souls I was certain the Miyazaki must have read Elantris. There's so many story points and lore points that feel inspired. I wonder if that is the case.
examples, please.
Hi Brandon,
I view your channel for a couple of years already.
We appreciate the effort to diversify
the content. Please don't be afraid to tell by heart.

I adore every aspect of this guy. Big fan here, both of the stories you tell and the person you are.
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for me.
Super Metroid takes a close second.
Breath of the Wild is also really great.
Wind waker holds a special place in my heart
@@ReallyGoodandKind Mine too. I love its story, characters, artstyle, and just feeling of being on an adventure.

Massive Respect for including Fallout New Vegas and not forgetting the first two games in the series either! A man of taste
It's funny as hell the way he talks about games like a salesman. Very wholesome.

It’s interesting how he talks differently in this video. I think I prefer the other way, though.
I think it’s because he is reading from his newsletter.
He's probably reciting the article word for word. Usually he's ad-libbing based on a nounber of bullet points, or ideas he has.
It's not perfect, but it's better, than all the "ahm"s.
Oh no. Looks like a kandra has eaten Brandon. This artificial tone really doesn't sound right.
This is Brandon's clone..The one who writes the books while Brandon sleeps or signs stuff.
Well, I just found out that having things in common with one of your favorite authors is a really cool feeling
"I beat a Mistborn, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt!"
And the fact you also mentioned "Shadow of the Colossus" and "Braid" compounds my appreciation of your gaming preferences all the more.
I grew up playing LOK and absolutely loved it's story telling and voice acting. I hope they make a remake 🥺
Great job. Appreciate the honesty at the end there
Civ and Undertale are the only games on this list I wouldn't put on my own, it's not even that I don't like the games. its no wonder your work resonates so much for me, the stories you enjoy seem to be the ones I enjoy as well.
I'd love to know what Brandon thought of FF7R's battle system, I thought it was a perfect mix of turn based and action.
Brandon made special spot in my heart when he said he loves ds2 I LOVE DS2 ❤

I can’t believe how much your list and mine share DNA. I’m genuinely stunned. Great list.
Man, Brandon is such a chad, even the games he likes are great.
Given that a Mass Effect remaster has been all but confirmed, I can't wait to hear what you think of the series as a whole.
I recommend outer wilds. It tells a great story without using cutscenes or even levels. You find everything on your own
This video popped up in my feed shortly after hearing about your comments about how you should have worked on Elden Ring, agreed even before watching this but now agree even more, love to see a writer who takes video games seriously enough to enjoy them and recognize that they are another great way to tell a story
Adora la comida española y es fan de Miyazaki, este hombre es maravilloso.
Brando would absolutely love DIshonored. The atmosphere in the game is pretty close to how I imagine Mistborn.
He said he doesn't like stealth though... Isn't that a stealth game?

But I cant, New Vegas is on the list.
And, he beat Halo 2 on legendary
He loves Undertale. So, he's an amazing gamer.
Thank you for standing up for Dark Souls II.
