Let me know your thoughts about the Elytra in the comments, are you on the mostly positive side or among those who think it's too problematic? I also plan to try out a few new editing techniques over the next videos. I'm also trying a few new things in general, such as getting other people to help/learn editing from, the intro is edited in collaboration with Jakub! Do let me know how the video quality is overall!
There’s no problem with an elytra. Travelling faster is actually good because it means that people can find better places to build 10x quicker. Also, before it was harder to beat the game. But now beating the game and getting an elytra isn’t ‘endgame’ if all it takes is massacring blazes and spamming gold at piglins then spamming beds at the ender dragon so you can ender pearl across void until you can find one.
In my mind Elytra is quite useful for building and scoping out areas and biomes, saving players time and energy when it comes to playing the game. I think it deserves itself a bit of a nerf, but with the new updates to the game, anyone could argue that minecraft has just became to easy. The idea of putting it in the end, was a good play on Mojang's part until the end became too easy to achieve. Where it would take longer to get to the stronghold by hunting endermen, the nether update gave us piglins to speed up the entire process. Heck even the ender dragon being the "final boss" and giving us "the end" achievement can be defeated with a few beds. In my mind, and elytra just makes the game more efficient, is it a bit buff in my mind? Yes, but I think that taking away firework rockets would ruin it. Minecraft is solving more problems by creating more problems. Perhaps in the future the Elytra could be dealt like shields, arrows or other airborn projectiles could have the chance disarm it for a few seconds, from the classic mobs to skilled archers.
The elytra is fun to use and convenient but it ruins other fun aspects of the game and the best way to play the game (the elytra) shouldn't be making the game less fun.
I would actually argue that rails are fine as is. They have the distinct niches of being the only afk transport method and being able to transport almost any mob. The real method that needs buffs is horses
@@icantthinkofaname4723 those niches aren't the thing rails were meant for they need a buff and you can't change my mind horses are way easier to get going so the reward should by logic also be smalelr than rails wich take set up
I use rails not because they're fast or cheap, but because they're automatic. I love being able to jump in a minecart, hit a button and just put down the controller while I enjoy the scenery.
I built a lot of rail in my world, but since getting the elytra, I used them 0 times... it's just way too slow, it takes me 4 min to get to my villager farm, with elytra it's 30 seconds, there's simply no point
@@MelonM4nVal Yea but power rails completely obsolete the minecart with furnace. What he means to say is you could use a (or multiple) furnace minecart(s) to accelerate the minecart it could go beyond powerrail speed
@@Ju-lz1ugactually, furnace minecarts can pull one minecart behind them. They’re still a garbage mode of transport for speed, but the unique interaction is neat
@@gv6206 Have you ever had a dream that that you had that you would you could you do you want you could yo do you could you want them to do so much you could do anything?
The minecart travels alternating 2 and 3 ticks on each rail. The fastest it could travel without rewriting stuff would be 2 ticks per rail, otherwise it would lose track of the rail it's on.
buffing ice boats or rails wouldn’t create a need to buff elytras since elytras still would require no setup like placing rails or ice, elytras would be optimal for short to mid range transportation or for exploration while rails and ice boats would be best for frequently visited far locations
I feel like the only buff minecarts would need would be something like putting a haste enchant on it, making it go 1.5~2x as fast as it does now. If that was the case I would use them a lot more to go between short to mid-range areas. (like between my farms location and my build location)
@@ipodtouchiscoollol Aren't furnace minecarts that move by burning fuel still a thing? And honestly booster tracks are a good enough option for me. It just needs a speed boost. And yes, being able to link multiple together would be awesome.
@@Sanquinity Its slower than walking and it doesn't let you control which direction it goes in. Being able to link together minecarts let you trade speed for absolutely massive carrying capacity and can open up to non piston bolt selective destination designs that are 100% consistent and wont break if the train get unloaded for any reason
In hermitcraft they found a way faster transportation than elytra so they can connect everyone's bases, it requires building, soul speed and moving those annoying dolphins, but it is faster than using an elytra
The main problem is the progression in Minecraft - it's too fast and too easy. No one uses leather armor, horses or camels in the early game because it's better to just get some iron, build a nether portal and start mid-game, and also no one uses mine carts or the recovery compass because it's better to just get some diamonds and find the end portal.
Minecraft is a sandbox game and does not have a set progression path to take. It is up to the player how they move forward in the game , for example you can make a portal before getting iron armor even through it is ill advised to do that early but you can. You can also just take your time and not rush through the game so fast and enjoy it at your own pace. I feal like the game isn't as absurdly easy as some people say it is,it's just that you got good at the game over the years and no longer feal the challenge a new player might experience on there first playthrough It happens to every game you have mastered. No subsequent play though will be as fun or challenging as the first.
I mean if you somehow know nothing about minecraft its really hard especially before they added ruined portals to tell you how to build a nether portal because before than and without achivements you could probablly never know about the nether or the end
@@Blue_Doge true most people today think minecraft should get harder and harder with every update even though it would make it harder for new players to understand and finish the game. Portals are for new players hard to understand but when you successfully understand what to do you are good to go but with the recent villager changes, they are making a already complex system a lot more confusing and convoluted for new players to understand. Like how is a new player supposed to know that enchantment books are bimome dependent or that swamp/jungle villagers exist without Googleing for it. It is bad game design when you need to Google the answer for a problem you face. Also the new villager map don't help much because they are also biome dependent and if you don't know that ench village type has a unique enchantment you will not know what use it has autside of finding different village's.
@@Gigi4u yea the biome villagers are terrible, the workbench ones where the right balance of haveing some complexity without scareing newbies. and if you wan't to make minecraft harder just add something like a deep dark relm (that actually gives a benifit for exploring there) and don't make the stuff that is supposed to be easy for the new players hard. Also a big gripe I have about the new villagers is it isn't nessisarlly complicated just tedious and confusing
@@Blue_Doge ultimately the villager changes don't add any skill to the process but instead waiste your time Hulling around villagers for thousands of blocks multiple times. It isn't fun or requires skill it is just boring time wasting, that makes getting books from villagers unnecessarily time consuming and boring. At least with the armor trimms you hand decent trade of for making netherite harder to obtain in exchange for decorative armor designs. But with the villagers they are taking something away and not giving anything in return. New players already have a hard time understanding all current villager mechanics but if these changes get implemented a lot of people will strait up stop bothering to interact with villager due to the difficulty of understanding and working with them, especially moving them to other bimomes in a boat on land.
Yeah lol. Wasn't really that new of a thing tho, using punch bows to propel yourself foward and give u a bit of a boost while running was already a thing before elytras in 1.8 and before, used mostly in PVP to run from other players for example.
A punch 2, infinity, and Unbr 3 bow with speed arrows to propel yourself forward while running. It's way faster than a horse and you can cross a whole desert in less than a minute haha
I just want trees to be have higher leaves, so horses can actually ride underneath them. Maybe an easier way to let the horse or mindcarts travel water too. Or a way to make railing and minecarts a bit easier, since it is so grindy/costly in materials
Tbh, as much as I love the Elytra, the Minecart railway is still my favourite mode of transport. It may be slower and it's a hassle to build rails but it's so fun watching the view as you ride the minecart without thinking too much about controlling
I personally use ice boats the most since they are much better than any other means of transport especially on the nether roof Most of the time when i use elytra is for constructions, going vertical heights up fast until i make a bubble elevator or something Also elytras didn’t make the game worse they just made endgame much faster paced, increased the limits ect
@@cringeashXD If Mojang made the Elytra unenchantable, they'd have to find a way to make it better to maintain. As stated in the video, repairing the Elytra with phantom membranes is terrible, and not just because the phantom is a terrible mob; the cost to repair a tool at an anvil increases the more you repair it, until it eventually becomes too expensive to repair. There would be a point in which the Elytra would be ridiculously expensive to repair at an anvil, which is part of why people will usually just put mending (and sometimes unbreaking 3) on it rather than use phantom membranes. Unless some overhauls were done to the repair system, making the Elytra unenchantable would make it not worth the effort.
@@Wishtelle When was the last time you saw someone remove all of the enchantments on their gear just to repair it, though? The grindstone is not a good solution to the problem of anvil repairs getting more expensive; it'd be inconvenient and extremely annoying to have to deliberately remove unbreaking from your Elytra using the grindstone just to reapply it so that you can repair it without it being too expensive. That'd be really poor game design and would still make the Elytra not worth the effort, because every time it gets too expensive to repair you'd have to remove unbreaking from it, only so you can reapply it (and you still need to repair it too.)
@@vulturesalesmanI'd say part of the reason nobody does this is because everyone puts mending in elytras. If mending was incompatible with it, perhaps grindstones would become a viable option. Besides, Minecraft is a game filled with poor design choices so what bad would another one do?
I think i ended up roughly where the devs intended the elytra's use to be. Im a worldbuilder, i like building towns and infrastructure. So i will build roads, decorated nether highways, railroads, whatever between places. But i use the Elytra while i build those things or to scout out new places, gather resources like sand, whatever.
exactly, my favourite part of minecraft is once you are op and you can just fuck around and make farms and builds, why cant people who hate elytras just not use them
Rails should you allow to make a whole train, with a locomotive wagon and attach as manny wagons with chest as you want, it would make the rail transport more "overpowered" but in a different sense, instead of allowing for a fast way of travel it would allow you to move a shitton of materials in one go from one place to another, bulk transport. The same with boats, there should be some way to upgrade the boats in increasing their cargo capacity.
There is an issue Called Ender chest + shulker box + elytra You can already carry nearly 2000 item slots (1728 ) and the elytra is still the elytra And thats not counting the rest of the player inventory besides the Ender chest
@@danielgonzalez-vm5lj ehhhhhh I mean, I like to keep my e-chest organised with specific shulkers, so I don't use if for that all too often. If I could connect minecart chests to minecarts then I'd get a ton more storage transport space. You underestimate how much people often transport too, something like this would be good when going between farms and storage systems.
although if you’re stupid (like me) you can bridge over to the end islands first and get the elytra before killing the dragon, although it would be very unethical.
while minecarts and building minecart tracks are fun, i do think they could do with a way to make them faster, maybe a special kind of minecart or a super powered rail. i'd argue that they are the most expensive to set up in the game, and it would be nice if players were rewarded a little more for creating something with rails.
And let the furnace minecraft be a proper steam engine that can control which direction and speed you want to go and let us link minecarts together to make proper trains. its not that hard
@@ipodtouchiscoollol can you image how much the community would love a proper steampunk era update. The first step would be proper trains on tracks and not just minecarts
I dont think the advantage to minecraft should be speed,it just makes other modes useless. A minecart advantage should be long range mob and item transport, make it so you can chain minecart together and let it build up speed the longer its on track, top speed should be atleast 50% faster than it is now. I personally think Minecraft could benefit a lot from adding actual railways. In real life they are very useful, and I'd love to see them in the game. Imagine transporting a humongous quantity of items by rail. Then we could say: sure, the elytra is faster, but railways can transport so much more. This way maybe people would actually build such infrastructure; from a mine to a construction site, for example.
Eh, you kinda can???? Make a big rail way with charged rails and put a ton of chests inside the minecart, but then there's the shulker boxes that could put a lot of stuff inside and you just carry them around. Or put the shulker boxes inside the minecart chests
@@123youbia Rail stops working when they are out of loaded/simulated chunks, so no. Yes technically you can do it but it's not viable for anything serious. If you have to follow along the train for it to work properly, might as well just use Elytra, sulker boxes and end chests
I recently got back into minecraft due to a server, and started playing. Never used elytra, made netherite, seen new villagers, pillagers. In the server, Most of everything in the game had been finished including the dragon. Farms, bosses etc. I’ll tell you that even with decent gear and a decked out sword, I was absolutely obliterated when travelling the end and fighting shulkers. I wanted to play blind since that’s exciting and wasn’t prepared for their attacks. Died many times, fell out of the world, mistakenly fell when I was burnt out from hours of searching, and since it was a server, 6 out of the seven endships I found were already raided. This was with keep inventory on. Obviously I’m not a skilled player, but I’m like below the average so I imagine many others had this experience. In the end, I got that elytra with seedchecker (everyone in server encouraged to use it.) It really shocked me that you can all but fly in survival, and just need to learn how o balance your kinetic energy. However… To be honest, if it wasn’t overpowered after all my searching, I would be pissed.😂 I’m Pro Elytra. Minerails/Boats are still useful for transporting villagers and such! I think its silly to say they inhibit creativity. MC players have always built structures like roads, homes, bridges, despite the fact they can switch to creative at any time and fly over. We could build ice boats everywhere but that’s just not as cool as a build. We could live in huts made out of obsidian and never worry about anything getting in or out. This inhibits creativity. Nerf obsidian. Doesn’t make sense, right?
It is hard to overstate how much Minecraft 1.9 changed the game. If we segment the game into old school and new school 1.9 is the point where it shifted over in my opinion as many core mechanics were changed and from there we got some of the most from the roots changes
@@ДюсековИльяс it isn't a lategame item though. the average player can get it in the same day they create the world. you shouldn't be able to do something as simple as kill the dragon, and then be able to fly. nothing should be so OP, for example the hardest thing in the game, the ancient gives nothing compared to the end citys, that you can easily raid if you have atleast iron armour.
Yes, that's when they started the direction towards easy mode. Fun of being able to truly fly is so great that the only issue I have with Electra is that it flies too fast for multiplayer servers to render. It should fly slower and new chunks than 10 seconds old and it should be about 10% slower in existing chunks.
still they evolved the game into a really bad away... before was not that good, the new stuff are cooler in visual and new mechanics of some sorts... but they miss soo many oportunities... all because they want people to respect envirement and be explorer, kind... but if before we slave one villager to make iron trades into esmerald with two resets per day we just increase to infinity slaves and make the same amount of esmerald... also, they not automatic allow us to kill cattle animals as cow, but we just do mass reproductive abuse in confined cells them slaught them all into leather or food anyway... mojang and microsoft in dump in the way they want us to play the game... forcing us to be idiots and not really creative folks we wanto to be
I honestly have mixed feeling on the Elytra, it's convenient, but it does discourage you from building transport infrastructure that can give a charm to a place. It makes me not want to use my iron on minecart rails since I can just fly everywhere. It's a blessing and a curse at the same time as it is so convenient, any project has to be far better than what it can provide to be worth building. So massive scale farms that make resources absolutely worthless are basically the only thing you can build other than massive mega-bases without feeling like you are wasting time.
Even I have elytra, I keep building railroads and ice highways everywhere. I am 100% sure I will fly there most of time, but I enjoy building highways/railways. So yeah, it's just a game and you play however you like
I'd blame that on minecart rails being trash more than anything. For all the effort it takes to build them they're barely even faster than running, and they've been that way since the beta days. If Elytra didn't outclass them, then horses or ice boats would anyway because of how overdue they are for a buff
Rails gotta be faster. I like piston bolts over elytras as i can go to toilet while it runs tho it is however a teensy bit slower. However, I just wanna remind you that rail dupers EXIST
In my survival world Elytra was amazing at the start, but over time I ended up using it a lot less - mainly as last-mile transport method, with main transport infrastructure being a mix of piston bolts (faster, fully automatic and allowing to afk while moving) and ice roads (much faster, less attention required). I guess this tends to happen more often when your builds are scattered tens of thousands of blocks apart from each other. Buffing minecart tracks to be on par with piston bolts would by itself solve a lot about Elytra controversy - giving players a tradeoff between requiring effort to build for effortless travel, or requiring effort to travel every time.
honestly their needs to be more steps between the nether and the end, either more dimensions or rewards from bosses to get to the end instead of just blaze rods and ender pearls only
I've always kinda thought that; you don't actually need to DO very much to finish the game. Especially considering how much of a difficulty spike the Nether can be the first few times you go.
@@stitchfinger7678 That's because Minecraft is never truly finished, it just stops moving. Having a dimension with a boss at the beginning doesn't change that.
@@stitchfinger7678 Learning how to speedrun the game is a very clear window into how little of the game mechanics actually matter for reaching the dragon 😔
Well, there is a command-only mob that could be reworked and used as that in-between step. The Giant (it looks like an oversized zombie, but they could change his look) is almost like a secret boss that has not been added that could make for a fun challenge for mid game players. He could have a drop required to make the end portal perhaps and serve the role of a more early game boss
The argument that the elytra is an "end game" item is totally bunk because minecraft's "end game" is easily reachable in about an hour. If horses and rails are midgame, it makes no sense to go through the hour long detour of either mining tons of iron, gold and redstone, building paths and bridges, and laying down track when you can just ignore it and power on to the endgame (which would take less time!). This is why people complain about progression so much. So much of the fun (at least for me) in Minecraft comes from overcoming problems. Tough to travel from place to place? Build a path or a railway or something. But when an item that is infinitely better than what your hard work built (and makes said network totally defunct) sits behind only an hour of gameplay, there's no reason to improve anything. The fruits of your labor will amount to nothing, so why bother?
And this is still compatible with it being a sandbox. It's a sandbox where you MAKE THINGS to DO THINGS, and the whole game is really optional, but making things is a good option. If making things isn't a good option, what's the point of the game?
This. With Minecraft being as old as it is with its massive playerbase, its endgame is usually achieved in a few hours of play time. It's not that it's too easy, but rather that it's been the same way for so long now; Everyone knows exactly what to do and exactly how to do it. My personal suggestion would be to use mods, and give yourself a fresh experience.
@@Andius_Augustus The problem isn't that you get there in a few hours of playtime, it's that the expected amount of playtime for a minecraft world is months or years... And yet, you get to the endgame, or even postgame, in the first few days (or even hours).

The issue i have with Elytra is that imo its not really that hard to get, just time consuming. But once you have it, its over. Exploration becomes trivial and "vast distances" are traveled within a few minutes wich forces new bioms and structures to be even further appart than they were already wich invalidates other travel methods even more and making exploration boring. @@Subject_Keter this just sounds like skill issue. They're professional Minecraft players, of course they don't want to waste 20 hours getting the basics.
It's funny because it's like a tree of issues. Part of the issue is Elytra's outclass other methods of transportation so they made it so repairing it requires phantom membranes, which are annoying to get. However you can just use mending on an elytra, so mending is the issue, right? Then it stems to a big part of the issue, the anvil. Anvil repairs are simply unreasonable as a repair method due to the punishing nature of using an anvil to repair. I'm completely fine with both Elytras and mending but the anvils need some rework or big buff for it to go back to it's original intended use.
I think it's entirely fair to buff minecart rails to be comparable to Elytra in terms of speed. The amount of set up required to build them over long distances is comparable to how much work it takes to get an elytra, and no matter how fast rails could let you go it would never be able to compare to the sheer convenience of being able to fly at any moment. The fact that rails are still the exact same speed as the beta versions of minecraft where even sprinting didn't exist is honestly wild to me
It is more fun to work for your transport, having to build rails, or paths, or waterways brings out creative solutions and encourages construction. The Elytra tells the player to ignore that and it discourages creative solutions.
It's still up to the player if they want the easy way or not. I don't understand the hate towards an item everyone can just not pickup. If you're more interested in a huge project, then the existence of the elytra shouldn't pose an issue to the player, unless it shows that they value convenience more than the idea of creating the project itself. In which case, how would the elytra giving choice to the player be an issue if the player willingly accepts it over the alternatives?
@@umamifan in single player I entirely agree with that. However, on multiplayer servers with my friends who speed run, it is quickly problematic because of how much slower I go than them.
@@knuckleheadwestwind3585 There are tons of servers with elytras disabled that can be played on when it comes to multiplayer. This just boils down to player choice yet again, except that this time, it's the server. But in the case of you being on a server with your friends, I don't think it's fair to point fingers at the elytra because of your friends using it and you wanting to do things your way. That seems to be an issue that extends beyond the item itself. For example, it'd be like me wanting to create different kinds of stone manually, but then seeing my friends use the stonecutter, and then me saying "I hate the stonecutter because it makes things more convenient and takes the personal fun that (I have) out of it."

Havn’t played MC in ages and mostly played the heavy technical mods. Coming from that perspective: we had jetpacks ofcourse. They started out very crappy, were semi expensive, slow and fuel hungry. You’d die quickly from falling too. Really had to get a feeling to control the early jetpacks. Something as good as this Elytra would have cost dozens of hours of progress in some certain mods. On the other hand I could argue they made certain things too easy. I am a biiiig builder, so it reaaaally helped me in this regard. It’s a double edged sword case. Gotta weigh pro’s and cons. I like mobility and building, so I like these items. But I get all arguments against these items.
These days, the jetpacks have to be balanced around the existence of elytra. Mekanism even added "fighter jet" flight using the jetpack in combination with an elytra. You can either use the Curious Elytra mod to equip it as a back slot, or in late game get a combined form of elytra jetpack for the mod's powersuit. Going back to the jetpacks of early tech mods would be terrible now.
that it is - some moders did mods (majority of them) for game to be more comfortable (autocrafting, different cargo network systems, mass storages, op weapons, custom enchantments, op armour) - other modders made it harder (TFC) /more complex, more progress oriented more - whatever you want/ "you are not a pizza to make everybody happy" (do not know who is here quotted)

i think the elytra actually helps with creativity when used for bigger and more compicated builds, because it helps you get to places that are hard to get to in survival, and with scaffolding it just makes everything even better.
I like the elytra because it makes traversing long or vertical distances not cancerous, the way it is in the rest of the game. You either have to: > painstakingly jump upwards 1 block at a time, or spend time constructing massive, ugly staircases/ladders so you can walk up or down hills >use a horse, which inevitably becomes lost/trapped/left behind when you encounter a low-height biome (such as a forest) or body of water (horses cannot and will not swim while riding them.) >build a railcar or a water/bubble elevator, which is resource intensive >brew potions of swiftness and jumping to carry around, which take up valuable inventory space and making you have to plan for the return trip once your potion supply runs low.
Elytra’s have a pro that saves them against the power creep: they allow for free movement. That makes them better for short distances and unorthodox rutes. A few weeks ago there was a bug that allowed for horses to be breeded to run even FASTER than a rocket-spammed elytra, I exploded the shit out of it, and it was extremely fun. Building the infrastructure to breed horses correctly as well as the grind and exploration for getting the resources to get enough potions to get to that level of speed we’re all a very fun challenge with an awesome reward, so awesome in fact that it revived my passion to build infrastructure for land traveling, as I now have a 6k block-spanning highway and are currently building a road network. That hasn’t stopped me from having an elytra, as it is extremely useful for moving around my base and reaching spots the horse would struggle with. In my case, they weren’t opposing excluyent sides of a coin, they are complementary tools for moving around the world, since the horse is my best option for long distance travel
You can also set up a command block that will give you speed buff if you are standing on a certain block such as cut copper or a slower speed buff on dirt path. This greatly improves the game. I used speed one for dirt paths and speed 4 for quarts path.
@Mario o bispo da preguiça even tho I've written a bunch of commands blocks and over a dozen mods, I really never got confortable with data packs. Some personal blind spot.
In my thirteen years of enjoying this wonderful game, I've finished it once. And that was as a result of a team effort during school lunch breaks. I have never seen an elytra in the wild. I've never manufactured fireworks. But I also remember the days of fishing rod and boat travel, so... I guess what I'm saying is that formalizing mechanics into end-game content shouldn't be a controversial decision.
For me, transport in Minecraft basically falls in three groups: Infrastructure, non AFK This is stuff like ice boats and horses. You have to build the path, whether its ice roads, canals, or clearing trees and building bridges for horses Infrastructure, AFK This is just minecarts and piston bolts. Takes a while to build, but you can leave the keyboard completely while using it. No infrastructure, non afk This is where the elytra falls, as well as simply walking, though usually with walking you do the same thing as with horses where you build paths and bridges if you're walking the same way a lot. The thing is, elytras have a very minor downside for how fast they are, you have to control them when flying places. When flying to the nearest desert this is negligible, but for longer distances it can be preferable to build afk methods of transport. There's three ways I can see of bridging the gap: Making AFK transport faster Minecarts travel at 8m/s, however with piston bolts traveling at 20m/s with no issues, I think the speed of minecarts can be buffed to 20m/s. Likewise, ice boats can be made fully AFKable by having a button that has you move forward without holding W (like an auto walk). If this were done, ice boats could be kept at 40m/s as the resources to build an ice road are more expensive than rails. Making AFK transport cheaper If minecarts can't be sped up, rails can be made cheaper, or minecarts can go further without the need for powered rails (ie a craft of rails getting 64 instead of 16 per go, or minecarts being able to go 100 blocks between powered rails instead of 36) Making elytras require infrastructure This could either be nerfing rockets and implementing a system where you can build objects you fly through to get a speed boost, or having those objects repair the elytra. Essentially, to fly long distances, you have to build stuff, but to fly short distances you do not need such infrastructure
I agree with most of this, though I also believe that other transportation methods should get some kind of niche so instead of being the end all for player transport you'd have different tools for different situations. At least minecarts should get their own niche as a type of item transport. We already use them to gather materials from farms into sorting systems so we could expand on that to make it easier for them to transport a lot of resources automatically over large distances. Which is what trains are used for in real life anyways and would give a good reason to make the infrastructure even without an increase in cart speed.
Flying should consume food, lots of it, in such a way where it isn't reliable to fly long distances unless you're carrying several stacks of it, this way long distance hauling from one place to another wouldn't be viable using Elytras, bus would be preferable to use other means such as boats or minecarts.
@@emmeth2453 even after shulker boxes, a chest boat or chest cart can hold 27 of them. I use chest carts in my flying machines, a clever way to have a "chest" that can be moved by pistons
This guy's videos are no worse than any multi-million-subscriber minecraft channel. Keep up the good work, you can absolutely become one of the big ones!
Anyone who watches Hermitcraft knows that you can use the elytra in conjunction with a dolphin highway, which is literally twice as fast as an elytra with rockets alone.
Why so many people say they get bored when they obtain elytras? I feel better, less time I'm gonna lose playing the game, i get to the farms quicker, i can explore more etc, with elutras you can make bigger structures because its easy to go up if you fall down. Its the best, I feel bored when i have to walk a lot of time in the game to get to some place but with elytras it is amazing.
The creativity that Elytra limit isn't just no reason to build other transport infrastructure but it hinder Mojang to add other more creative way of transportation, and to be honest, Elytra isn't that hard to get (in java) if you know the game well.
@@poom323 Of course, one thing to note: *if you know the game well* Plus, of course... Nether Boats are the superior method once set up :V Even on Overworld, i believe, though there's yet-better methods (elytra + riptide) there.
I remember playing on a server and someone speedran to the end in an hour and got all the elytras in 7k radius and ofc kept them to himself and whenever we attempted to eliminate him to get an elytra he would just fly away with it. firework boosting in 1.11.1 killed combat in minecraft, if someone has an elytra they can just fly away when things go wrong and you cant do anything. same with riptide tridents but more limited btw
Yeah, it's stuff like combat that makes me suggest having an enchantment to disable Elytras, or just having arrows from a bow/crossbow disable them in general, like an Axe for Shields.
@@XayXayYT yes, I heard that part but good luck hitting someone before they see you and fly away + having to bring a bow/crossbow and use it every few seconds would break pvp even more than it already is
@@XayXayYT yeah, it is very unbalanced especially with end crystals as you can kill someone in prot IV ~1.5 seconds if you are skilled enough and they dont react within the ~0.5s window they have to save themselves
@@Vetrical maybe see if you can trade for it, like give him 2 stacks of golden apples or something, surely he doesn’t need 10. Also, to kill him, respawn anchors exist. He has literally 0.01 seconds to react.
I personally use both rails and Elytras. I use the elytra to explore and go to places I never went to/far away places. And I use rails to connect bases, farms and more established and developed areas I built. We just need a rail buff to make rails fast. That’s the only thing we need
You could do an Episode 3 about the Phantom, maybe? I would be curious to see all points about it. Personally, I thought we would get a cool night creature, avatar like. But all we got was a flying baby zombie: annoying and blank.
I have thought about it, but judging by the community post, it seems a bit too skewed to be controversial. A lot of people are either neutral or dislike it outright
@@shapeswitch_mood7221 phantoms just suck. The only distinct drop is useless as mending beats anvil repair by an absurd margin and they only spawn when you typically don't want them too either when in multiplayer and no one bothers sleeping or very early game where you are unlucky enough not to be able to get a bed.
@@demonking3673 From what I can see, it's still mostly negative, and I feel like talking about it in a most controversials episode will just be repeating what I've said in my Mob Votes video. If I do end up talking about Phantoms or Glow Squids, it'll definitely be a "How they can improve" or "What could've been" type of video like Shapeswitch_Mood mentioned.
Back when I started playing minecraft before the introduction of Elytras I thought how weird it was for a game so similiar to terraria not to have the same kind of movement equipments, so when Mojang finally added them it just seemed normal. In Terraria you have access to wings since the second half of the game ("Early hard mode") and the wings themselves are very balanced because there are many different types of them with unique quirks (like being able to glide rather than "flying upward", or being slower but reaching longer distances) and because alternative modes of transportation, like teleporters or mounts all have their own unique benefits (and downsides) to them. If Minecraft implemented a similiar system (I.E. adding a flying mount that would free you from the necessity of renouncing a breastplate) the meta would be much more open to competition
Well interraria you really needed the wing since the game is 2D the only way to make any meaningful cave and dungeon is to have some really steep vertical terrain
No, we don't need more flying stuff, Minecraft is supposed to be a game about building infrastructure for the sake of convenience and the Elytra's problem is that it totally bypasses that.
@@colbyboucher6391 >Minecraft is supposed to be a game about building infrastructure for the sake of convenience and the Elytra's problem is that it totally bypasses that. Minecraft is a game about building. Cut that entire second half out.
Easy solution: Elytra stays the same Boats will not be able to jump blocks on land but will be able to swim upwards water currents The horses will swim (very slowly to make it balanced) instead of sinking in the water Mine carts will be faster Everybody is happy
As someone who enjoys building I'd argue that the elytra only encourages creativity, not hinders it. It makes it so much less grindy to travel out and get a ton of different resources and build huge structures. In the server I'm in we're still planning on building a railway system for the same reason we build gardens and zoos and cities and cathedrals, it isn't necessary but it is useful for creative expression. Id also argue that rails and minecarts are not useless as they are still very useful in farms. Also zooming around with an elytra and trying to make it through tight spaces is fun lol
@@colbyboucher6391 I hate this argument lol like "just take literally all of the rest of the challenge out of the game" ok then I spend an hour building a big wall get bored and don't log on for several months. I also think it's disingenuous to compare infinite hovering to the much more finicky elytra which costs Fuel and can kill you easily if you aren't careful. I felt accomplished building all of the farms I needed to have convenient fireworks, I felt accomplished defeating the dragon, I felt accomplished traveling with my friends over an unreasonable amount of end islands to find a single end ship bc our seed hated us, I wouldn't have needed to do that in creative. I can't express in words how boring this black and white mindset is
Honestly I'm in favour for buffs, like stackable potions so you can have 16 speed duration potions so you get a good hour of boost for a single inventory slot given you set up the farms. Increasing the speed of minecarts and yeah Letting boats climb up blocks, even if it's only a half block at a time, I do definitely think the rockets are overtuned though. The elytra was still really worth it on release and actually encouraged building around it be it watch towers with fast elevators or vertical tnt canons. Like the elytra was meant to be a glider not an infinite flight device, you shouldn't be able to have a grounded take off without skill.
I know about the method with the bow, but I mostly seen people use a less dangerous method of non-explosive firework rockets with usually flight duration 1 or 2.
I really like this series of most controversial items it really goes deep into players opinions and separates from what other minecraft UA-camrs are doing keep up the good work!
I mean, I'm one of the people who, when I've _gotten_ an Elytra, mainly use it for gliding. Seriously, best thing to do for a flight travel hub? Build a build-height tower with signs telling you which side to jump from to travel to your iron farm, main nether portal, etc. That said, what I think would solve a _huge_ problem with this is to give minecarts a small buff. We can make carts for ourselves, carts for our stuff, we can build a furnace cart, and we can make chains. Why can't we make a minecart train already? My thought for how to fix carts/rails? Keep the powered rail as it is - they're great for hands-free rapid transit. Make all Minecarts hold two entities like boats do. This means two players can share a minecart, or a player and villager, or two villagers. Let us as players remove a "seat" by putting a chest in there instead. Or... Remove a seat and put a _furnace_ in there. Now you have a cart that, when right-clicked on, you sit in it, and right-clicking _while_ you're sat in it lets you put fuel in it. Not just coal - Any fuel source. W to go forward, S to go backward. Make the "Minecart with Furnace" move at fast horse speeds... When it is powered with fuel, that is. When it's unpowered, it coasts like an empty minecart. This would allow for empty-cart-prepared tracks with powered rails to continue kicking the furnace cart along, making powered rails _not_ useless, because they are still the main method of propelling unpowered carts and making sure you can make it to your destination. Allow a "Minecraft with Blast Furnace" creation, which can move at ice-boat speeds, but only when fueled with coal, coal blocks, or lava buckets. Furnace Carts can't "creep" like normal unloaded minecarts with players can. If you have no fuel, and you aren't on a powered rail, you are going _nowhere._ Allow carts to be linked together with chains. You now have basic minecart trains, which can either bring lots of people to a mine, or you and several chest carts. Because we've created two-seater carts... Allow the creation of the Minecart with Double Chest. No seats, all storage. The more carts you add to the train, _the slower your furnace cart gets._ You want to go _fast_? Blast Furnace Cart with just one player in it. You need to haul 12 double chest carts and yourself to the top of your mountain base? You might be better off with a standard furnace cart - it's stronger, not faster. Give us a "buffer" track piece that is _meant_ to stop minecarts at the ends of tracks. Why is this not overpowered? Because all of this takes time to set up. You're going to need _tons_ of iron and gold to make minecart rails and powered tracks and minecarts. You'll need at least one spare furnace (not a big deal), or a blast furnace (also not a big deal). You'll have to build and spawn-proof tracks and bridges. If you're hauling stuff, you're moving at slower speeds, even if you can haul way more stuff along. By having at least _one_ thing that can be at speed-parity with an Elytra with _proper setup and planning_, you make the Elytra not overpowered, but you don't power-creep the rest of it. Elytra become great for end-game exploration, where you're scouting around for new areas. Horses are still good for land-based travel with high jumps. Ice Boats are still stupid-fast, require no fuel, but require specialized setup with ice blocks to do their thing. Carts _become_ useful again as a planned transportation method, and are the _only_ way to haul significant amounts of items around, or ship items from one base to another. Blast-Furnace carts become the "hot-rodder's favorite" for speed on land. Need to hustle your butt from your farm over to your super-smelter to cook all of this chicken you got? Load up your inventory, set your tracks, and toss some coal in the hole. Your friends are screaming that there's a Warden in your mine and they need some help fighting it? Blast-cart to the rescue. They're the _alternative_ to Elytra, but could easily come with some downsides. Maybe blast-furnace carts with fuel still burning explode like lower-power TNT carts if they come off the track and fall. Gives incentive to _not_ leaving "open tracks" all over the place and instead having proper stations and end stops. Powered Rails are still _essential_ because they'll "get you home" in the event you run out of fuel in your furnace cart, even if you lose lots of speed in the process.
than its becomes so unbelivablly underpowerd as a postgame item that people probablly wouldn't even bother with it. you don't need other transport methods to be viable to build them anyway too
I could see a middle ground being useful where in order to gain altitude you have to make an updraft by putting campfires on the ground and riding the rising air up, so there still is some work required
I think they should nerf the acceleration and slightly buff the unaccelerated glide distance. Make it fly able… but not like crazy fast and make the glider aspect more a focus. Simultaneously buff other forms of transport.
@@mr.p215the reason is that the elytra is waaaaaaay to overpowered and completely changes the feeling of Minecraft. I think you can have it… but it need a major nerf that makes it not a viable means of long distance travel but simply eases short distance travel.
In my last game of minecraft with my friends, wet never got an elytra because we’re actually wanted to build transportation, I’m very proud of the nether highways and roads we have made to farms and each other’s bases. Our world looks cooler and more fun because we never used elytras
Sorry to say this but the statement "our world looked cooler" is subjective. Not to mention that you can use Elytras and transport through portals, they are two different mechanics with the same objective. One does not cancel the other, but rather complements each other.
@@kuro4282 , yeah, first method needs time to build, time to collect resources, you can die multiple times during building and hours of your hard work can be destroyed by gust that randomly fly throught your highway while you using it, and other method "just take elythras and fly for, mb, 2 seconds slover to another map corner than by using portals". Both methods absolutle fair and doesn't cancel other.
@@robledosieteseis2291 , elytras is a problem in that case. For example, mojang adding into the game new structure like Mansion. It should be difficult to find it, so it spawn on bigger coordinates. So, this is an endgame content, so mojang taking into account that you probably have elytras. So instead of spawning it on like 2000-5000 coord they add them on 10000+. But now without elytras you should spend even more time. If elytras doesn't exist rare structures would just spawn closer and more often.
I think it's fine because it's a post game item, even if you can kill the ender dragon in 15 minutes you still need to find an end ship and if you don't get taken to an island with one from the gateway it'll take more time and resources to find one, secondly you can't wear your chestplate which gives the most armour and finally it can kill you itself if you fly fast into a wall though i hardly think that happens nowadays
I think that elytras need some kind of interesting infrastructure requirement. For example, planes are by far the fastest way to travel irl, but require a lot of infrastructure in runways and maintenance and all that. In minecraft, boats need a water/ice path. Horses need a land path without obstructions (they are taller and fatter than players). Railcarts need rails (obviously). Nether highways require bridges and railings/walls for protection. Any combination of these all build upon each other in infrastructure requirements. The elytra has NO infrastructure requirement whatsoever. I can see the argument that a mob grinder for fireworks exist as a prerequisite infrastructure for elytra use, but that's a prerequisite for so many other things that you almost never have to actually do it just for elytras in the same way you would need to build an ice path for boats. The ice path is a boat-specific infrastructure, while a mob grinder is not elytra-specific. I don't have a solution off the top of my head, but this is the problem I have with the elytra.
The magic of traveling through and experiencing the world was lost. I loved having to travel by horse for 30 minutes or more to my friends settlements on the roads and paths we built. It's what set minecraft apart from other games. Actual travel instead of just spawning wherever. I hate the wings, I hate the nether shortcuts, and I even hate the GPS maps. I was disappointed to discover them all. :(
bro you can, you know. JUST DON'T USE ELYTRAS. the way you talk seems like a permanent mechanic that is absolutely impossible to deny, just stop with the drama alright blud
@kuro4282 limitations actually make art. Knowing you can fo something and choosing mot to genuinely is different. Think of adding an easy mode to dark souls. It's just not right.
I think horses and boats are fine but I think they could afford to buff minecarts. With the resource cost and lack of versatility I think you could buff them to be at least as fast as the fastest horse if not faster. It would make sense to balance it so that horses and boats make the best exploration transport (to be replaced by end game elytra) while minecarts become the default best for connecting 2 existing places with a permanent transport network. (edited for spelling since it was written on my phone first)
Minecraft's original implementation of the elytra in 1.9 was perfect. Back then, mending was harder to obtain, even though it was a necessity to even use an elytra, but elytra were so overpowered because the bow method gave way more momentum and bows could have both mending and infinity on them. Yes, the combination of all those things made them insanely overpowered. But it was only overpowered if you had the mob grinders and resources to obtain and support it.
I like the elytra for one main reason. Once you get it, you can build sky builds and have more verity in your builds. I’m not worried about it making the game easier, because once you beat the ender dragon, I consider the game beat and now just a time to relax
I think they should make minecarts better if they're going to buff something to combat the elytra. You have to set them up so it's not as ridiculous as anything else being buffed. Also it'd give a nice alternative to the elytra.
Minecarts are great for farms and mob transport - I would not want to make rail tracks for overall travel... even if they would make it faster - still tedious to make and boring way to travel
Ye, kersinana is right, why build a long rail track? It’s tedious and mundane for many, especially when it can on,y go straight and not switch directions. Maybe to transport items for long distance in automatic farms I guess, other then that it wouldn’t combat it.
I feel like a reasonable tweak to elytra would be for rockets to only work if you have, like, 5 blocks of air below you. That way it's not just a catch-all for every movement, but still extremely powerful.
It's honestly the only reason I play the game for any amount of time at this point. Flying is really really fun and it's cool to have an incentive to build a mob farm for gunpowder. I think minecarts could be better, but they are also very practical for redstone and generally moving around mobs, so it's hard to claim they have been power crept. Horses and boats are available very early on at little to no cost. If any transport option deserves a buff, it's the pig, tbh. It also wouldn't hurt to add some sort of ground that buffs the speed of anything walking on it, as that could make building roads for horses/pigs a way to allow them high speed.
@@Brandon-9 That just makes Elytra more grindy to get, it doesn't "fix" the Elytra. The end result is still exactly the same item. But speaking of nether stars... Beacons in minecraft seriously need a range buff. They are absolutely pathetic.
@a_randomuser4402 because early game you don't have an elytra, and unless you want to rush yourself it can take some time to get, and also to at least give an option to buff rideable mobs, and heck, again, early game, if you're gonna go through an area a lot by horse(or maybe even pig) , you can end up building a path anyway
Elytra is what you make of it, I only get it after Ive completed most of my goals, but I still enjoy my railways and getting around normally, and if I plan or building something ambitious or feel like going across the map you bet your ass I’m using it.
Minecraft worlds are meant to be played for hundreds or thousands of hours, so why is the late/end/post-game easily reached within the first few hours?
It depends what type of MC player you are. If you’re someone who takes it slow, it could be days to a week before you get the Elytra. Its easy to obtain cause MC really has no end. Its a sandbox game at heart. You can either get to it in a couple hours or a couple of months. You play it at your own pace.
How about adding another copper recipe to the game that can be made over and over again? Like using it in another type of rail that can go way faster. It wouldn't take away from the elytra, mostly because the elytra still allows you to go wherever you want to. A rail just can't change directions on a whim. You plan it out for a specific pathway, and still need a minecart to place down lying in your inventory.
There are, in fact, pros and cons to the existing elytra versus other forms of transit. Ender Pearls: Pros- Skips over difficult terrain. Cons- Requires precise aim. Uses valuable inventory space. Damages the player. Horse: Pros- Can account for changes in terrain. Affected by potions. Cons- Depends on keeping a living mob alive. Does not work over water, steep hills, or chasms. Bubble Elevators: Pros- Incredibly fast. Can be of any length. Allows AFK travel. Cons- Requires a small amount of setup time and resources. Only works between vertical locations. Minecart: Pros- Dependable, difficult to interfere with. Can basically go anywhere. Works in tiny spaces. Allows AFK travel. Cons- Requires setup time and resources. Only works between set locations. Boat/Ice Highways: Pros- Ludicrously fast. Works in tiny spaces. Cons- Requires setup time and difficult-to-get resources. Cannot change depth levels. Only works between set locations. Elytra: Pros- Fast. Can easily change directions on the fly. Cons- Requires aim. Difficult to use anywhere that doesn't have a large amount of open space. Damages the player if they're not careful. Uses valuable inventory space. The elytra works well when travelling between open locations in the Overworld or the End. It doesn't work very well in caves, the Nether, forests, small spaces, places with open hazards, places with poor visibility, or anywhere else like that. It's fast and adaptable, but unless you have ridiculous reflexes, large open distances are the only places where it's practical.
I hate complaining about overpowered methods and objects. Just don’t use them then! You can artificially limit yourself! I’m gonna use them because they’re part of the game and they make things easier. 11:00 exactly
I noticed that I tend to lose interest after beating the game, I really enjoyed what terraria did with progression, over time especially in 1.4.4 allowing you to get many extremely fun and useful quality of life improvements before getting to the end of the game so i didn't feel like I had to beat the game to get my mining speed high enough, or gather late game materials to do building, most of the useful items I needed to facilitate my creativity were available pre hardmode even and I ended up having more fun playing terraria than I ever had in the past, minecraft needs to make earlier game transport and quality of life items better than the elytra (by improving them) and making new unique ways to power yourself up earlier that have trade offs, Also, power creep won't be an issue. The elytra has higher flexibility than every other transport method. The point of the others should be to be faster but require infrastructure, i play on bedrock and riptide tridents encouraged me to build water pools everywhere before I had an elytra and I had alot of fun using it to cross my base area in seconds especially during the rain
Terraria has one of the most well thought out gameplay loops and progression I've ever see in a game. It would be amazing if Minecraft took inspiration from its 2D brother
@Vinicius Goulart yea the labor of love update especially is one of the greatest updates to a video game ever, the only problem I have with terraria is the post Golem stage but its a minor thing
For users with low-end devices, it is unrecommended to use the elytra, as it is very fast and chunks can take a while to load, and you could d for that if you are in survival or hardcore.
If you continue this high quality content you'll literally be growing faster than my dad left me. Been subscribed since 3K nice to see you growing so fast.
To be fair, there is little incentive to build roads, bridges, infastructure, rails, or anything else related to movement except nether hub + ice and boat in the base game, if we remove Elytra. What's astonishing is that the occurence of railways didn't lowered after the release of Elytras, because people never made them for movement, it's shtty as hell and just... Too slow. If the movement meta need one thing, it's not the removal of Elytras, it's the addition and rework of pretty much every other movement medium, a big buff. Hell, Horses are just ridiculously slow at the point where everyone wants one but never really use it. That's sad.
Honestly I’m fine with elytras in singleplayer but when you play multiplayer, I have a problem with it. I like the idea of quick travel to farms and places but when you are able to use it to build a base millions of blocks away or run away from fights very easily it gets annoying. I think that it would be good to have to set it up beforehand like minecarts with rails but idk how you would do that with an elytra.
In the Quark mod, flying above campfires boosts you upward. Perhaps if the only way to maintain flight was by doing something like that, the elytra would be more balanced. Fireworks would have to be nerfed though
Tied with removal of minecart boosters. But not as many people know what those were. Putting those back in would be a buff to rails because you wouldn't need so much gold.
I agree that the Elytra is balanced, it's just that all other form of transport is weak. If other forms of transportation were buffed the elytra will still be the best because of its speed and flexibility and the fact the no obstacles get in your way male it an aging exploration tool. But if the other tools can be buffed to be amazing at quick, repetitive routes that would help.
I don't have any problems with the elytra, but I have problems when people in Minecraft servers speedrun the game in the first 3 - 5 hours so that they have advantage on you in PvP, exploring, finding resources and ect.
since when 3-5 hours is a speedrun timing? that's just a regular playthrough for an experienced player. Also, don't play on pvp enabled servers if you are going to complain because people play better than you, wtf, just do RP if that's an issue.
If you're playing in a PvP server I suppose you're playing for competition, if people are competing they'll try to get as much advantage as possible, so it's the nature of a competition in general. I suppose it's better for you to not play in a server if you don't want to hurry to explore and get resources, or to play in a private server with friends
Large megaprojects in smps, or in fact large smps at all, would basically be useless without it 🤔
There’s no problem with an elytra.
I like how the advantages and disadvantages of minecarts are being Fast and being slow
I would like a rail buff. Rail cannot replace the elytra because it is not flexible, you have to build it first, so they could coexist.
rail to go to places like farms, elytra to explore.
Took the words right out of my mouth. There's no reason railways still as weak as they are.
I would actually argue that rails are fine as is. They have the distinct niches of being the only afk transport method and being able to transport almost any mob. The real method that needs buffs is horses
I feel like they could make an improved powered rail which becomes craftable with deep dark or end materials.

buffing ice boats or rails wouldn’t create a need to buff elytras since elytras still would require no setup like placing rails or ice, elytras would be optimal for short to mid range transportation or for exploration while rails and ice boats would be best for frequently visited far locations
I feel like the only buff minecarts would need would be something like putting a haste enchant on it, making it go 1.5~2x as fast as it does now. If that was the case I would use them a lot more to go between short to mid-range areas. (like between my farms location and my build location)

@@Blue_Doge ultimately the villager changes don't add any skill to the process but instead waiste your time Hulling around villagers for thousands of blocks multiple times.

Me personally making some tools, weapons, and a out should be "unenchantable", and elytra is DEFINATLY one of them.

So yeah, it's just a game and you play however you like
You could use it in conjunction with a dolphin highway!
Mojang should just triple the speed of rails
This is the best take by far
what is a piston bolt??
honestly their needs to be more steps between the nether and the end, either more dimensions or rewards from bosses to get to the end instead of just blaze rods and ender pearls only

He could have a drop required to make the end portal perhaps and serve the role of a more early game boss
0:17 honorable mention for the railway that is both fadt and slow
I feel the problem is (atleast with some people) is that the "endgame" is way to easy to actually get to
This. With Minecraft being as old as it is with its massive playerbase, its endgame is usually achieved in a few hours of play time.

Don't forget about how EXP can only be obtained consistently from farms
the grindstone in question
I think it's entirely fair to buff minecart rails to be comparable to Elytra in terms of speed. The amount of set up required to build them over long distances is comparable to how much work it takes to get an elytra, and no matter how fast rails could let you go it would never be able to compare to the sheer convenience of being able to fly at any moment. The fact that rails are still the exact same speed as the beta versions of minecraft where even sprinting didn't exist is honestly wild to me
It is more fun to work for your transport, having to build rails, or paths, or waterways brings out creative solutions and encourages construction. The Elytra tells the player to ignore that and it discourages creative solutions.
yes, it makes all those things pointless. Anyone who thinks this isn't a problem should just play creative mode.
@@umamifan Imagine the game only had creative mode and no survival. You could still play survival, by not placing more blocks than you destroyed, and teleporting yourself back to the spawn point after you touched a mob too many times. Would it be fun?
How do they compare to Riptide?
that it is - some moders did mods (majority of them) for game to be more comfortable (autocrafting, different cargo network systems, mass storages, op weapons, custom enchantments, op armour)
- other modders made it harder (TFC) /more complex, more progress oriented more - whatever you want/

However, if the "if you don't like it don't use it" argument held any weight, your excellent conterpoint seems nonsensical and could be refuted by just saying "if PvPers don't wanna craft Enchanted Gapples then just don't craft them lol"
This is the reason why I hate this argument: if "you can choose not to use the feature" was a valid excuse, suddenly there are no bad features anymore. Suddenly it isn't the developer's job to create a fun and balanced game. Suddenly if they add a crafting recipe for Enchanted Gapples the players shouldn't complain, despite the problems this feature would bring
Imagine how catastrophic the consequences would be for PvE as well. Would new bosses/enemies have to be balanced around players having an infinite supply of Enchanted Gapples? This and many others power creep problems shouldn't be refutable by saying "if you don't like ir don't use it"

I like how a lot of these debates keep coming back to the anvil being terrible.
i think the elytra actually helps with creativity when used for bigger and more compicated builds, because it helps you get to places that are hard to get to in survival, and with scaffolding it just makes everything even better.
I like the elytra because it makes traversing long or vertical distances not cancerous, the way it is in the rest of the game. You either have to:
> painstakingly jump upwards 1 block at a time, or spend time constructing massive, ugly staircases/ladders so you can walk up or down hills
>use a horse, which inevitably becomes lost/trapped/left behind when you encounter a low-height biome (such as a forest) or body of water (horses cannot and will not swim while riding them.)
>build a railcar or a water/bubble elevator, which is resource intensive
>brew potions of swiftness and jumping to carry around, which take up valuable inventory space and making you have to plan for the return trip once your potion supply runs low.
Yeah I agree, most mega projects today would have been either impossible or a trillion times harder without the elytra.
@@macmcleod1188 a good idea for this are datapacks as they will not occupy space in the world

"Quick transportation inhibits creativity" bro must hate creative mode then
In my thirteen years of enjoying this wonderful game, I've finished it once.
Damn bro, you really suck at Minecraft that much?
For me, transport in Minecraft basically falls in three groups:
Infrastructure, non AFK
This is stuff like ice boats and horses. You have to build the path, whether its ice roads, canals, or clearing trees and building bridges for horses
Infrastructure, AFK
This is just minecarts and piston bolts. Takes a while to build, but you can leave the keyboard completely while using it.
No infrastructure, non afk
This is where the elytra falls, as well as simply walking, though usually with walking you do the same thing as with horses where you build paths and bridges if you're walking the same way a lot. The thing is, elytras have a very minor downside for how fast they are, you have to control them when flying places. When flying to the nearest desert this is negligible, but for longer distances it can be preferable to build afk methods of transport. There's three ways I can see of bridging the gap:
Making AFK transport faster
Minecarts travel at 8m/s, however with piston bolts traveling at 20m/s with no issues, I think the speed of minecarts can be buffed to 20m/s. Likewise, ice boats can be made fully AFKable by having a button that has you move forward without holding W (like an auto walk). If this were done, ice boats could be kept at 40m/s as the resources to build an ice road are more expensive than rails.
Making AFK transport cheaper
If minecarts can't be sped up, rails can be made cheaper, or minecarts can go further without the need for powered rails (ie a craft of rails getting 64 instead of 16 per go, or minecarts being able to go 100 blocks between powered rails instead of 36)
Making elytras require infrastructure
This could either be nerfing rockets and implementing a system where you can build objects you fly through to get a speed boost, or having those objects repair the elytra. Essentially, to fly long distances, you have to build stuff, but to fly short distances you do not need such infrastructure
YO someone actually gets it thank god.
Ice roads aren't more expensive than rails, though, unless you have an iron farm.
@@Gatrehs yeah the minecart with chest is useful to transport more than your inventory can carry for long distances before you get to shulker boxes
@@emmeth2453 even after shulker boxes, a chest boat or chest cart can hold 27 of them. I use chest carts in my flying machines, a clever way to have a "chest" that can be moved by pistons

Anyone who watches Hermitcraft knows that you can use the elytra in conjunction with a dolphin highway, which is literally twice as fast as an elytra with rockets alone.
Yes but whos gonna go through all that effort when you can just use ice roads
Why so many people say they get bored when they obtain elytras?
I feel better, less time I'm gonna lose playing the game, i get to the farms quicker, i can explore more etc, with elutras you can make bigger structures because its easy to go up if you fall down.
Its the best,
I feel bored when i have to walk a lot of time in the game to get to some place but with elytras it is amazing.
The creativity that Elytra limit isn't just no reason to build other transport infrastructure but it hinder Mojang to add other more creative way of transportation, and to be honest, Elytra isn't that hard to get (in java) if you know the game well.
I aggree with you. If other transportation methods were more viable, player creativity would be far more encouraged than it currently is with elytras
Another problem about Elytra that seem no one here pointed out yet is it's faster than world generation.
@@poom323 Of course, one thing to note:
*if you know the game well*
Plus, of course... Nether Boats are the superior method once set up :V
Even on Overworld, i believe, though there's yet-better methods (elytra + riptide) there.

That sounds like it would only make things worse.
Terraria is action rpg game though. You're not flying in minecraft to fight bosses that shoot 100 of projectiles at once.
@@colbyboucher6391 >Minecraft is supposed to be a game about building infrastructure for the sake of convenience and the Elytra's problem is that it totally bypasses that.
Minecraft is a game about building.
Cut that entire second half out.
Easy solution:
Elytra stays the same
Boats will not be able to jump blocks on land but will be able to swim upwards water currents
The horses will swim (very slowly to make it balanced) instead of sinking in the water
Mine carts will be faster
Everybody is happy
As someone who enjoys building I'd argue that the elytra only encourages creativity, not hinders it. It makes it so much less grindy to travel out and get a ton of different resources and build huge structures. In the server I'm in we're still planning on building a railway system for the same reason we build gardens and zoos and cities and cathedrals, it isn't necessary but it is useful for creative expression. Id also argue that rails and minecarts are not useless as they are still very useful in farms. Also zooming around with an elytra and trying to make it through tight spaces is fun lol
Just like mending, if this is the angle you're going for, just play Creative where you can fly in the first place...
If you have no fuel, and you aren't on a powered rail, you are going _nowhere._
Allow carts to be linked together with chains.
I kind of wish it was purely a glider with no way to accelerate once you've take off so that other transport methods are still viable
than its becomes so unbelivablly underpowerd as a postgame item that people probablly wouldn't even bother with it. you don't need other transport methods to be viable to build them anyway too
I could see a middle ground being useful where in order to gain altitude you have to make an updraft by putting campfires on the ground and riding the rising air up, so there still is some work required
or you know, they just buff the other methods? Instead of going up you are trying to shoot the other person down.

(edited for spelling since it was written on my phone first)
Agreed, that's the best way about it. Make them faster with less speed loss. The balancing is in the resources cost and time spent on construction
Yeah, it really makes no sense that horses or muscle-powered boats would be faster than what is essentially a little powered train.

Yeah there are a lot of different play styles but I still can’t comprehend which play style is the type of person to complain about elytra
This is the way.
The game only begins after you beat it. That... is a decision Mojang made.
I like the elytra for one main reason. Once you get it, you can build sky builds and have more verity in your builds. I’m not worried about it making the game easier, because once you beat the ender dragon, I consider the game beat and now just a time to relax
Perfect comment my friend, i would add that all minecraft game is for relaxing. So if you're progressing to slowly or quickly doesn't matter at all.
I think they should make minecarts better if they're going to buff something to combat the elytra. You have to set them up so it's not as ridiculous as anything else being buffed. Also it'd give a nice alternative to the elytra.

Ice boating in the nether:👍
Elytra in the nether:👎🏽
yeah using elytra in the nether is pretty hard because of the random lava floating from roof and the weird terrain overall
Elytra on the roof of the nether are very efficient.
Maybe make it so that path blocks give a passive buff to speed when you are mounted on an animal?
@@Brandon-9 That just makes Elytra more grindy to get, it doesn't "fix" the Elytra. The end result is still exactly the same item. But speaking of nether stars... Beacons in minecraft seriously need a range buff. They are absolutely pathetic.
@@AndroidGames-cd8jx, why go to the trouble of building that when you can use elytras to build many other things instead.
@@AndroidGames-cd8jx, for early game I guess, most just won’t need it since the is killed very early.
Elytra is what you make of it, I only get it after Ive completed most of my goals, but I still enjoy my railways and getting around normally, and if I plan or building something ambitious or feel like going across the map you bet your ass I’m using it.
Maybe it's not the elytra's fault. Perhaps it's cause it super easy to obtain it. Just a few hours and a few beds and the elytra is all yours
I suppose you could argue that the late game of Minecraft isn't *that* late game
Nit a lot of us have a couple hours to spend a day just playing minecraft :/
Minecraft worlds are meant to be played for hundreds or thousands of hours, so why is the late/end/post-game easily reached within the first few hours?
@@emperorsniper2806 agreed
Ender Pearls:
Pros- Skips over difficult terrain.
Cons- Requires precise aim. Uses valuable inventory space. Damages the player.
Horse:
Pros- Can account for changes in terrain. Affected by potions.
Cons- Depends on keeping a living mob alive. Does not work over water, steep hills, or chasms.
Bubble Elevators:
Pros- Incredibly fast. Can be of any length. Allows AFK travel.
Cons- Requires a small amount of setup time and resources. Only works between vertical locations.
Minecart:
Pros- Dependable, difficult to interfere with. Can basically go anywhere. Works in tiny spaces. Allows AFK travel.
Cons- Requires setup time and resources. Only works between set locations.
Boat/Ice Highways:
Pros- Ludicrously fast. Works in tiny spaces.
Cons- Requires setup time and difficult-to-get resources. Cannot change depth levels. Only works between set locations.
Elytra:
Pros- Fast.

I noticed that I tend to lose interest after beating the game, I really enjoyed what terraria did with progression, over time especially in 1.4.4 allowing you to get many extremely fun and useful quality of life improvements before getting to the end of the game so i didn't feel like I had to beat the game to get my mining speed high enough, or gather late game materials to do building, most of the useful items I needed to facilitate my creativity were available pre hardmode even and I ended up having more fun playing terraria than I ever had in the past, minecraft needs to make earlier game transport and quality of life items better than the elytra (by improving them) and making new unique ways to power yourself up earlier that have trade offs,
Also, power creep won't be an issue.
@Vinicius Goulart yea the labor of love update especially is one of the greatest updates to a video game ever, the only problem I have with terraria is the post Golem stage but its a minor thing
yeah I agree Terraria does it really well
4:57 when he said "Like button" the youtube like button glowed up. it was amazing!
I'll be ur dad

@@viniciusgoulart5077 Then we'll use Punch II again :V
This is why we have a rule not to kill the dragon on our survival servers, it's meant to be an end goal when we're basically almost done playing
I love this channel! You are very funny! Good job and good luck 👍. I've been subbed for about 4 months now 😅

@@XayXayYT 😀, good luck on 100k subs, I bet that you can reach it by the end of 2024
@@RP49Music That's the plan! Thank you!
4:42 ELYTRA ORE?!?!?!? New 1.20 feature???
Fireworks for the elytra were the biggest misstep in this game's history
Tied with removal of minecart boosters. But not as many people know what those were. Putting those back in would be a buff to rails because you wouldn't need so much gold.
I agree that the Elytra is balanced, it's just that all other form of transport is weak. If other forms of transportation were buffed the elytra will still be the best because of its speed and flexibility and the fact the no obstacles get in your way male it an aging exploration tool. But if the other tools can be buffed to be amazing at quick, repetitive routes that would help.
Nah, elytras should work worse in the rain need a trident same goes for underwater.
your videos are so good and they give me nostalgia. Keep it up!
Glad you enjoy my videos! There's more to come!
They should make it so fireworks only work on the ground, for a blast off. So you at least need to touch down every so often.
I don't have any problems with the elytra, but I have problems when people in Minecraft servers speedrun the game in the first 3 - 5 hours so that they have advantage on you in PvP, exploring, finding resources and ect.
That's fair
since when 3-5 hours is a speedrun timing? that's just a regular playthrough for an experienced player.
Sorry, I was talking about survival servers.
@@semuf2000 exactly, a regular playthrough is a bit too quick, mojang needs to make the game harder
