Could you list all the systems you tested even if you cannot easily rank all of them. Perhaps on a spreadsheet or table list each system's likes and dislikes.
This analysis completely contradicts their previous analyzes of these systems where Hyundai and Kia were in the top. Granted, some of these other systems have advanced since then, but there's no way they dropped to the bottom of the list
Based on the video they showed I don't think they selected the Active LKA. Kia Hyundai has 3 modes to select and one of them is the non-centering but lane departure warning which does ping pong, but it does have active LKA which keeps it perfectly centered.
Thats the thing you have to be careful about when listening to these reviews. The assumption is that the ppl reviewing know what they are doing. Thats a huge assumption. They have to test 12 systems on limited time and budget and how do we even know if the manufacturer is there to help them or they just winging it. My recommendation is if you really want to know youll have to test it yourself when youre shopping for your car assuming you know how navigate for help on operating these systems correctly yourself…
Lol the element they chose to rank are kinda exactly the contrary of what most people want . I think having to not have to get your hand all the time or to not have to look at the road every second is exactly why customer buy such options ! I guess we need to buy cars 10th and below
The problem is that none of these systems (including Tesla's) are rated for distracted driving. Manufacturers don't want liability and NHTSA attention before they figure out all the corner cases of Level 2 ADAS.
we have a genesis gv70 and we have to turn off the lane centering and only keep active cruise on. the lane centering is horrible even on a clear sunny day - lame
The lane centering on my genesis gv70 is smooth and reliable on straightaways and roads with gentle curves. It cannot rapidly change directions or manage sharp turns on the road.
As a GV70 driver, I don’t think your statements on lane centering reflect my experience with the vehicle. Overall, the lane centering is good on all but the twisty roads. The radar cruise control is smooth and quick to recognize surrounding vehicles. The problem with the Genesis lane-centering system is that it does not chime before disengaging either because it no longer recognizes lane markings or the turning speed/ radius exceeds its parameters.
apparently, I absolutely love my 2020 Hyundai Sonata Lane keep assist. you can drive for a long while without hands on steering, and it would work very well on sharp curves too. comparing it to my Honda CRV lane assist, sonata has been a superior performance, as it detects lanes much quickly, doesn't disengage lane keep assist when applied light brakes (as CRV does), and quite literally keep the vehicle in lane even in sharp curves (which again CRV fails completely - as soon as CRV finds a moderate curve, it will just give up on you and drive the vehicle off the lane if your hands arent on steering wheel)
I don’t know what model Kia you tested but my EV6 stays dead center and not once have I seen it ping pong. As for the system disengaging if you don’t respond, that’s how they’re supposed to work.
'supposed to work' !? when i took programming in college there was a section on history of engineering decisions that cost people their lives. The car needs to as #1 priority keep the driver safe - disengaging - SPECIALLY when the driver is not paying attention is inviting accidents to happen. Stopping in traffic is equally horrifying.
It doesn’t seem to me that coming to a stop in the lane of an interstate is a good idea. The Supercruise should work to the shoulder of the road before stopping.
Probably in about 20 years the safety behaviors will become "standard" so they all work the same. Right now it is whatever the programmers at each brand are directed to do.
How many other auto makers have systems that allow for city driving? My Tesla on version 11.4.9 does remarkably well albeit still a little ways to go in terms of “human like” experience.
CR is full of BS. Ford shills. I tested the Hyundai/Kia system in a rental Sonata on a 22 hour drive across half the county. It centered very well. Better than the Rav4 rental I had. Did they play with the LKA sensitivity settings in the menu?
Useless video. Like CRs car reviews. Go check out Mercedes vs Tesla FSD that just came out by Whole Mars Catalog, if you want something that is real testing.
Can you wear sunglasses while using either supercruise or bluecruise? Can't imagine the eye tracking works very well when you're wearing dark or mirrored lenses.
everything bad mentioned about mercedes should actually be a pro. only needing one hand on the wheel is a plus. and 30 seconds hands off before warnings? that's a good thing. i can actually do stuff without my car beeping at me lol
This result is surprising to me. I just drove 2024 Hyundai Sonata N-line and its lane centering was incredible. In contrast, 2022 Mazda CX-30 turbo premium plus I owned had a completely useless lane centering. Ford came the best is genuinely surprising
A Tesla just autonomousy delivered an incapacitated driver suffering a stroke behind the wheel to the emergency room through city streets. Lets see the others do that.
Firstly, incredibly dangerous - Tesla FSD is not designed for impaired driving, he could have crashed - FSD does crazy stuff from time to time. Secondly, he wasn't incapacitated - he felt ill and instead of just calling an ambulance, got into his car from his home, put hospital address into navigation and enabled FSD. Lastly - MB's Driver Assist and OpenPilot could have done the same.
you DON'T like the mercedes system because it allows the driver to ONLY have one hand resting on the wheel!!!?? is this for real? you control nannies at CR are are rediculous! as IF you never drive this way!!! have you ever really driven over a few hundred miles on a trip? Did you always have BOTH hands on the wheel??? come on...tell us the truth!
LOL! Tell that to Whole Mars Catalog, that tested it against the Tesla FSD. In 19 minutes Mercs ADAs had 44 interventions. Tesla, none. And they had to do it in Mercs "ideal"settings: under 40Mph, sunny, leading car, no traffic lights, etc.
That is literally the confusing part here, they specific test the Mercedes Benz L2 system and not the already existing L3 system, although then comparing it to systems which seem to be obvious already L3 with the driver being allowed to remove hands. This is WEIRD.......
It probably didn’t make the top 3 because of the phantom braking issue when approaching an overpass. I had that happen a few times, and I never felt comfortable using AP afterward.
Hahaha of courses Ford is the Best is your book 👎💩. Did you guys know while using Ford Blue Cruise you can take off your seatbelt without the system disengaging 😂🙈.
OMG!!! did that driver in the mustang REALLY have a mask on!! and i thought the walking dead were in movies only what a nanny state CR has become...the worst of the diversity companies
Please repeat these tests every year. Its a rat race of continuous progress from all auto-makers.
If CR said the sun has risen, go out and check for your self.

They have all that but they won't give you for free. They want you to subscribe to their paid service.

I think it may be a calibration issue. The driving assist on my 2020 Kia Forte is excellent, but on my 2023 GV70 it's horrendous.
where is tesla?!
Has anything changed since you published this? Specifically, has HKG corrected their critical problems?

I agree, if it has the sensors to safely change lanes.
It’s better than disengaging the steering and letting the car go full speed off the side of the road like what Honda does.
what about open pilot?

The Kia Hyundai system seems pretty scary
this video is pretty dated after only a year there has been a ton of updates across the board.
In the event someone is injured or killed in the from a system failure who gets sued?
In level 1-2 it’s the driver . Level 3 that only Mercedes has, it’s Mercedes.

Tesla spends ZERO $ on advertisements and this is the reason why these guys are bias covering Tesla.
Yup, find out how Consumer Report makes money.
