Wow, 100k miles of OpenPilot. What a great review. I just found this product today and it's pretty much what I want for my new Rav4. The lane assist is terrifying in it's ping ponging so I never use it. At high speeds it does little more than give me massive anxiety. The adaptive cruise control is really an aggressive breaker, where the Honda Sense stuff is much better at detecting cars further out. I use the cruise all the time though, it's still very good. But a car that can drive me places when I don't really want to.... well we have a winner!
YOU'RE BACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. Dude we talked on discord. I bought my 2016 honda civic SPECIFICALLY because of you. I never added comma because I forgot. now that you uploaded I remember!!!! Going to buy this ASAP.
Openpilot on many cars provides cold control from 0(3) mph including speed control, stop and go, but on Honda Fit, Freed, Pilot etc. where the Honda Nidec sits it only takes control at 25 mph and the "Comma Pedal" takes the system to a modern level. You can search for the video “Comma pedal Honda” on UA-cam, it clearly shows... I have Honda Freed (Japan car for Japan market in European country)))
They've made it sound like it won't be there at launch, but should come some time after. I imagine it's all about timing, and they also made it seem like it'd be easily retrofitted onto cars that don't have it. The wiring would already be there, and it'd be more or less removing your old rearview mirror and installing the new one equipped with open pilot.
Ordering C3X with Openpilot separately and receiving it even earlier than Aptera does not seem to be any problem. Is it another matter when you have Aptera LE marked on your calendar? At Comma Con last summer, the company’s founder said that the hardware capacity of Comma 3X would be enough for another 2 years of Openpilot development. If the delivery time of your Aptera LE is not earlier than autumn-winter 2025, then you can buy a C3X with a cable for your current car to enjoy autonomous driving now, and when the Aptera is on its way to your home, simply buy an additional cable compatible with Aptera for $200. You might even get it for free as an early adopter.
@@sunduckjo Any thoughts if I had a delivery date more like first half of 2026? Think it’d be wise to hold on for a next generation of Comma’s hardware?
It likely won't be available in very first units due to the steering column, but quickly after vehicles will support openpilot plug-and-play with comma hardware. More info to come from Aptera on this soon!
@@VirtuallyChris when you say “very first” does this mean like, Accelerators, or first year, or some other timeframe? Thanks for the time to reply, by the way, it’s much appreciated.
Well, Does OpenPilot obey stop signs and traffic light intersections automatically (slow down and stop)? Or do you have to take control at any one of these??? Comparing this to my Tesla Auto Pilot which does not obey stop signs or Traffic lights, i have to take over control of Auto Pilot when there are no cars in front of me. Seems like mounting that large interface right in the middle/dead center of the window makes the device really bad for having visual blind spots for the driver at intersections. i notice blind spots with just regular mirrors in my vehicles and sometimes miss seeing cars to the right. Seems Comma/OpenPilot is the same as Auto Pilot in my Tesla. It is just an enhanced Cruise Control which follow the road contours.
hi, i have a honda eHERV HRV with honda sensing, so openpilot bypasses the 45 mph minimum speed for activation? also in start and stop traffic after a few seconds of being stopped you need to hit thee acceleration to resume, do you still need to do this with openpilot? thanks

Toyota's safety sense 3.0 is pretty good. A LOT better then 2.0. I was able to drive on just regular streets with minimal input. Its not as good as Tesla's FSD but if you're doing regular HWY driving then its a game changer.
Not only TSS3.0 is good, but it can adjust car position in lane using BSM while you or car in next lane passing on highway. This is crucial for safety. Comma x3 can't do that.
Amazing video Chris! Is your Civic torque modded? Mine is 2.5x Also is your gas/brakes still being controlled by Honda sensing? I know OP long is still alpha with civic and experimental.
I wish my Honda's EPS wasn't rate limited, I'd order this today otherwise. I actually bought the car I have because of the original openpilot project lol.
100K - you got me beat by about 20K. I don't actually know because I forgot to capture the miles I put on with the Comma 2 (I'm at 43K with my Comma 3). Everything you said is true. In fact, we've decided on our next car based on (in part) it's OpenPilot support. My wife thought I was crazy to spend the money on the first one; now she won't drive without it!
I don't think these self-driving systems will work in Europe any time soon. Because of the shape and size of roads and streets that were designed prior to cars.

Comma C3X + "Comma Pedal" for full control
@@sunduckjo Pedal vs no pedal on 2016 civic touring? Is it just stop and go under 25 mph?
