    I drive for a living and my work purchased several 2022 Siannas a couple years ago. Since the majority of my driving is on the highway, I instantly fell in love with the adaptive cruise control and use it every day.
    About a month ago, my 2012 Prius C finally got to the point were I needed a new car. I walked into the Toyota dealership hoping to get something that at least had adaptive cruise control. 4 hours later I walked out with a 2024 Prius Prime SE! While I still love driving my work vehicle, the safety features on my Prius Prime are leaps and bounds above my company's Sianna! I've never loved driving as much as I do now! Yes, the system beeps at me a lot, which took some getting used to, but it's absolutely worth it!

    After going from a car built 10 years ago (2014 Scion) to a vehicle with TSS 3.0 - its lightyears ahead. The car basically drives itself, similiar to Teslas autopilot if you have ever driven one, this car will cruise down the highway matching speeds accordingly well keeping you centred in your lane. The best feature I'd say is well in stop and go traffic, TSS 3.0 will trail the car ahead and come to a full complete stop, if you sit there for more than 3 seconds you just give it a nudge on the accelator to wake the vehicle up and off it goes; I do not see any need for traffic jam assit unless you're constantly in stopped traffic and pressing the accelator every 3 seconds could become a nuisance but aslong as you're moving at a slow pace the car will trail along. The majority of my driving is all highway and it makes the drive much more relaxed drive. Also you don't need to enable it everytime, aslong as it fits the right conditions (Marked out lines, speed of 30km/h or more etc.).

    I love my 3.0!! Especially on. Curvy roads, it handled it perfectly the other day. In fact the lane trace assist is also so perfectly fine tuned it thinks my hand have left the wheel for too long and alerts me to put them back on😂. It’s that good that I don’t have to interact that much.!

    • @motch6182
      @motch6182 Рік тому +5

      @@walkingconifer Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 and 2.5+ are highly capable systems, and 3.0 works with similar features while increasing already existing technologies. For example, the TSS 3.0 system takes the front-facing cameras and not only provides higher resolution but also increases the angles to make the area of coverage even larger. I would say 3.0 steps up the tech from 2.5 and 2.5+... its more sensitive and very accurate. Also, the radar sensors and the distance each sensor covers is highly increased. TSS 3.0, unlike previous versions, can receive over-the-air updates.

They are there in case I miss something that the car doesn't. The one thing I really like is the car detecting a vehicle slowing or stopping ahead. Pretty useful and unobtrusive suite of safety features. All of them work as advertised. LDA can be weird when the road lines aren't great or are weird. A construction zone with temporary lane closure and you need to drive over lines diagonally etc. You can disable a lot of them but I keep them all on as really it's a nice redundancy in case you don't see a pedestrian or a something in the road. Sometimes LDA is a bit much and I turn it off. If you are totally focused you would never activate these features, however, it could be a real benefit to avoid a collision. I'd say it's a good value and works well.

    Does 3.0 avoid side collisions if I try to change lanes but there's a car in the lane? I understand the blind angle assist in the side mirror but I came close to an accident because it felt like it didn't try to avoid a collision on the left side. A high-speed car suddenly appeared in the overtake lane just as I was trying to change lanes to the overtake lane and it didn't feel like it tried to avoid it. I just barely saw it at the last second and stayed in my lane.

      I took a single lane turn where the driver in front of me came in sharp and stopped prematurely [for the car in front of it to pull into a gas station] while I was taking the turn wide and nearly touched my driver-side front quarter panel to the other driver's passenger-side rear quarter panel and no warnings even went off. Yet when I go to back out of my parking spot at work it always detects the road traffic behind me on the other side of a decent sized grassy knoll and tricks me as if someone was actually pulling into the parking lot and running right into the back me. Has startled me every time and the passing traffic isn't even close, especially not like the one above mentioned driver. It makes no sense at all.

    It would be lovely if each driver could customize these features further. For example, I like the speed limit sign recognition but I hate the pedestrian crossing one. The reason being is that I can casually check the speed limit when it is safe to confirm if I am all good. With the pedestrian crossing signal, I just see an amber light suddenly come on so I immediately look at my dash - AWAY FROM THE ROAD AND THE PEDESTRIAN CROSSING - to see what is going on. It would be so much safer if I had just kept my eyes on the road! With the LDA I don't mind an audio alert that I've left my lane but I really don't want the car correcting the steering. There are a lot of reasons why I leave my lane. Often it is because a person is walking their dog on the side of the road or heck, come see what it's like when the track teams are out for training some evening or a group of cyclists are out and I am giving them plenty of safe space. I don't like having to "fight" the car which tries to pull me back into the lane. More options to customize please!

    Looks like to improve NCAP rating, the LDA on the new 2023 Corolla Hybrid (US) is automatically turned on every time car starts. This is very annoying for someone who does not want to use LDA. LDA is great on highway, but as someone who uses the car in city roads mostly, this feature is annoying to dangerous sometimes. I can understand if I can at least just default it to an audible alarm. But not giving the user the ability to turn of steering assist is just plain wrong. I am fighting the stupid LDA in certain situations (on ramps and when a lane splits to two etc.). Yes, I know I can turn on blinkers, but there are these road situations where the blinkers don't make sense. The point is, I should be able to make the choice if I want this assist or not.

    • @toyotausa
      @toyotausa  5 місяців тому

      Hi, there. You have the ability to disable certain features on the vehicle such as the Lane Departure Alert. Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) uses the lines on the road and/or preceding vehicles to provide active driving assistance and help keep the vehicle centered in its lane. While LTA is activated, the available Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) is designed to monitor the driver's inputs, such as steering operation.
      We hope this helps!

    One thing I'd like to know about this please if any of you experts can answer. My mum recently wrote off her car by collecting the corner of a trailer parked on the edge of the road, but parked sloppily (so the corner was sticking out a bit). The road itself wasn't marked for a parking lane. The question is, where exactly is the threshold of detection for the automatic emergency braking system? Obviously you don't want it to brake as you're driving past parked cars. On the other hand you don't want to clip the corner of a parked vehicle. Where exactly does the detection system draw the line between a collision and a miss? How accurate/reliable is it?

    Suggest for drive on the right markets that LTA and LSA should also allow or steer the car to being slightly closer to the center line in left curves and closer to road edge line on right curves. This will help reduce centrifugal forces and lateral skidding in wet or slippery conditions. Opposite of course for drive on left markets. Currently, I frequently have to turn the steering assist off for certain curves, because noone but noone stays perfectly center on sharper curves, especially when vehicle in opposite direction is near center line as often is the case, and it encourages most drivers to turn the system off permanently to their own detriment of safety.

    Toyota claimed it was too expensive to upgrade Safety Sense from 2.5 plus to 3.0 because they need to upgrade the sensors, cameras, recalibrate, and update the program to 3.0 on the 2023 Camry. However, the 2023 Camry XSE V6 still cost nearly $1k more than it did in 2022. Considering, I am losing on the long-range or distance and width of the sensors picking up on objects, better camera imagery, and increased ability to identify objects. Oh! Toyota should have used larger disc brakes and dual-piston calipers on Camry XSE V6 as they did for the Camry TRD. The HUD needs to be a bit larger and brighter as has a tendency to be washed out at various viewing angles and when in intense sunlight. Don't wear sunglasses in the car if you want to see HUD.
