Companies don't want their employees to be free. PERIOD.
Companies subtly take employees freedom by:
1. Stability - steady paycheck, often over paying employee so employee fears losing status.
2. Conversion of manners:
a. Dressing alike (button up shirt, dress slacks, and dress shoes)
b. Company jargon/acronyms - a la drinking the kool aid
c. Making employees scared to voice true opinion for fear of offending someone. Sad truth is that everyone today is offended by everything.
3. Obedience - if you step out of line we'll fire you. If you come to work wearing a crazy moustache , clothes, or crazy opinion, you're on the chopping block.
Being an employee with a long, steady job history shows one thing - domestication. Its prima facie evidence of submission. Denying your own time and freedom, to come to work everyday from 8-5 and do mind numbing jerk work while giving up your true dreams. The tradeoff is this - you give the best years of your life to a company, and you get dick! Short and sweet.
