Only truckers, cops, and EMTs get it. Everyone else doesn't know: 1) probability of encountering a new or inebriated car driver; 2) the number of new, untrained and inattentive truck "drivers"; 3) how invisible they are loitering on the shoulder (until it's too late); 4) about 2 dozen cops are killed each year while stopped on the shoulder, lights on. If the COPS aren't safe, no one is.

There’s always a cop around to help when Rich is on the side of the road.
I’ve been broken down on the side of the road 3 or 4 times in busy urban areas and not once has a cop stopped to check on me.
@@cobo10201 only time this happened was when I was locked out of my car and the cops pulled up because someone called them thinking I was breaking in cars 4 cop cars swerved into the gas station and then when I told them my situation, they said sorry can’t help and drove off faster than they pulled up

C4 is my favorite, I used to hate it but it aged like a fine wine, its timeless, fantastic car. Proud 1985 owner. I keep it original but always thought this would be the perfect EV conversion, especially bc it doesn’t have a front grill.
can’t wait to see where this project goes. it would he a nice touch to put back the original radio just so it would look full original despite of the EV conversion.
The one and only time I went to Keystone Raceway, there were two vehicles no one could touch. One was a mid 70s squarebody short bed with an LS-7 454. The other was a very stock looking C4 that was ungodly fast.

One episode and this is my favorite of all your builds. I had a 95, it was an awesome car for its time. I have a cobra kit based on the same suspension that I have yet to finish. Going electric on that has been a dream for years.
I can't wait to see complete EV conversion packages for C4 Corvettes. They have to be on the horizon. Looking out a couple of years they should scale up and be affordable. EV West in Costa Mesa is already offering packages for Volkswagens and Porsches.

I'm already looking forward to Lucid Airs getting totalled. Two lightweight 670 hp motors from each wreck. I think they picked those specs just for the likes of you conversion gods.
There was this one review of an Air by a smaller channel who almost wrecked it on the highway minutes after the drive started... because a giant box flew off the bed of truck and landed right in front of them. Had it been another driver, we might have seen a salvage Air by now. So you never know; considering how crazy the roads are out there, maybe it's going to happen soon.
Exactly what I was thinking. On the other hand that means watching Rich assemble a 900V battery out of LEAF cells.

What song was it?
The rubber surrounding the power supply wire to the ecm often breaks down and loses its connection. Replace the power wire and you will stop having that issue. This is coming from someone who has spent plenty of time on the side of the road due to this issue.
That's just about every car in the road, and more so with Chinese wiring harnesses.
Looks like they may be replacing more than the power wire
I just bought a 1991 Corvette at age 18 and I LOVE IT as a daily driver im so glad rich is rebuilding one in a EV!

I used to hate them but now I love C4’s, but it’s rare to see an actual nice one. They look great unmolested with on a nice pair of wheels. Shelby Series 1 Wheels look perfect on them.
Thank you. As a C4 owner it's very funny to see everyone blown away by the performance of the later C4s. I take mine on road rallies and keep up with much newer stuff. The C4 is one of the most underrated sports cars on the road.

The early ones are a good platform to build off of too. Good body, suspension and handling for pretty much any build you want.

I'm one of the weird ones that actually LOOOOOVE the C4 body style... particularly the refreshed '91 - '96 version. That button you were pushing in the hatch is the release mechanism for the targa top when you store it back there. As for your no start issue, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Opti-Spark took a dump. That or the fuel pump died.

There's actually a lot of us C4 owners and lovers in the real world. The only place they seem to be hated is either the internet or by boomers who think their 1976 C3 is the fastest car ever.

Got your rear hatch access answer.
You were pressing the correct button (at the door) to open it. But...
There's a button inside the center console (yellow) as a 2nd way to open the rear hatch.
And the button thing you were pressing in the back is there to secure the Targa top inside the back (yes the top is removable).
My 84's rear hatch pistons are completely shot so I have to push my fingers under the glass to lift it up. Be careful with putting it down though, because you can shatter the glass if it falls down too hard.
Going to follow this because I want to find a beat up C4 Corvette and convert it to electric.
Also I hate wearing white shoes and shorts haha
Bench seating. 16" wheels in rear, 13" wheels in front - to accentuate door stopping effectiveness. Scissor doors to go with the lifted hood. Repaint the speakers.

as someone from upstate NY, i can vouch for your assessment of the roads. we had a bridge that was so bad at the beginning of spring a couple of years back, i was certain if they hadn't fixed it when they did it would have cost me a wheel or two.
Those roads would remind me of some roads I've been on in India if the Indian roads were a bit worse.

A collaboration with one of those guys would be pretty cool. Showing how easy one of those products is to install into your project should be worth something.

for that you'd probably need to put some different front suspension in that has room for halfshafts though.

One awesome thing about the C4 is all the access in the engine bay. Except the battery, lol. Thought they had a good look but the electrical is a nightmare.

Maybe the ice-t's engine jumped out of the car on the first power brake launch. Could be taking a while to add a steel subframe. Or Rich's daughter and her boyfriend stole it, probably in Mexico by now.
You should add a underbody sound system, so that you can make it sound like normal but with using sound effects via Bluetooth...you could use all different car sounds that way 😂

C4's are the greatest project car. And amazingly beautiful! If you get the 84-91. The 92-96 are cool too but not as much so.

I'm a recovering C4 owner, I had one for 2 years, and everything bad you said about them is very true. Mine was an 84 with the Borg-Worner 4+3 manual tranny and the digital dash. So mine was cooler lol.

Going directly with that big GM truck and a trailer, instead of the porsche would mean it doesn't matter what problems the car you buy has. I'd always go with that instead of having to worry about police, road problems and toe expenses

What an adventure! I'd love to see you use the Tesla small rear drive unit, which is 220kW and about 300hp since I'm planning to use it in a 996 and would love to see someone else work with it and see how you do the motor controller, etc. They are cheap and you get to ditch the transmission, plus 220kw would be plenty in this car. I saw some Nissan Leaf modules, I'm also planning to use those.
I love the c4. Corvette. actually. Probably cause my dad had one and I have some good memories with him in it. The only thing I can’t stand about them is the way all the plastic in the dash rattles over the smallest bump in the road
C4s are making a comeback. They are pretty much the automotive hipsters newest go to.
That rattling plastic is how you know it’s a GM product
I think the real problem with the C4 is that they put the distributor under the water pump = not a good ideal.
@@mr.keepitreal2200 those are only the later LT1 engines. Pre 92 still had it a standard distributor on top.
