To those of you who are arguing "try catching one with real fishing equipment blah blah blah", please take into account that these guys aren't sport fishing, and also, (if you've ever even been out big game fishing) think about the last time you got spooled by a fish and the animal you killed by letting that occur. It's true bluefins are in a whole lot of trouble, but until they are on the actual endangered species list, people are allowed to fish for and keep them according to the laws of the country they sail out of. If you have an issue I recommend bothering the fine people over at the National Marine Fisheries Service or the National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration Fisheries division, and maybe refrain from whining about it on someone's UA-cam video.

Can anyone who is familiar with this type of fishing explain why the fish didn't swim off? It is extremely unlikely that both of these shots hit brain or severed the spine. Especially considering how the fish fought for a split-second, then went belly up. Are they using electricity or something?
SharkB8 It doesn't appear so to me. And the chances of this happening on both fish are extremely low. In regular spearfishing, we "stone" the fish maybe 10%-20% of the time. And we're below the surface with the fish, shooting very accurate guns after years of practice. Additionally, on a fish this big, the spine is incredibly thick and very hard to break. Maybe I'm wrong and they got incredibly lucky, but where the spears hit the fish and how the fish reacted just doesn't seem like it.

They hit the fishes spine and muscle tissue which causes them to do a responsive reflex then stop
