Glad it was a catch and release. PEI is their new found feeding ground. They suddenly appeared in droves there after being absent there for 30 years or so. They are so plentiful and hungry that they literally hand feed them herring off the boat. Take care of this beautiful fish.
Yup, tuna loves to get a free lunch! Magnificent giant! Beautiful and very strong fish, she loves travelling thousand miles over the ocean visiting different continents and finally come back to the place it was "born"..
Yeah, nice on the release. Also, very few of these fish die on release. They are usually caught fairly quickly and released in good condition. An exception would be if you have a deep hooked bleeder, which is why most of these guys use circle hooks if they are planning to release the fish.
Ok "my bad" as they say. Using very heavy tackle and a very large circle hook does enable relatively quick bringing the fish to the boat without undue stress on the fish. The large circle hook will usually result in a "mouth hookup" without causing bleeding. The guys did a great job of releasing this fish.
seelan manowar yeah im sure its fine after having its guts ripped by the hook Not all the time is it caught by the mouth, big fish like that swallow hooks
hows the one big boy- he loooks at the dead bait , turns and laughs. thanks for the great underwater feeding habit shots. as you can see the fish are semi selective, that big monster must have been hungry.
Impressive. Most impressive!Bearded deck hand-the man, staying on leader-wrapping around his arm!! 2nd deck hand with the gaff, thought he was going to lose the fish bumbling, then I noticed-no hook gaff. Kudos gents!✌
It would be so awesome to make a wish and have it come true: I wish that ALL marine life would return to whatever its greatest population was in the last 2,000yrs.

I deckhand offshore trips and I usually do it only in the summer and in the summer its snapper season. I recently deckhanded a tuna trip and after hauling 20 pound snapper up 100 feet I have to say tuna is light work. I was fighting it like I would do a snapper and the captain was freaking out that it was already up lol. Yeah they were not as big as these tuna but still the ones I caught fought hard. Love fishing!! Great video and always tight lines!!
PEI is hard to bet as far as granders go. That's a big fish. I live in coastal NC and for anyone who doesn't know a fishable population was " discovered" maybe 20 - 25 years ago of bluefin tuna. No one knows if they had been migrating here or for how long. Seems to reason they had not been showing up here that.long because a lot of.times th1ey are caught withing site of the beach feeding on menhaden. I can't recall a 1000 lb er caught ( It's probably happened and I didn't know) but many 600 - 800 are landed. It's a very controlled fishery and each year a weight quota is issued. The boats going for them include those In " Wicked Tuna " but locals target them to sale and for mega dollars. They all get a plane ride to Japan where they are even more valuable. They show up sometime in Dec. peaking in Jan and only 1 per day are allowed with a short open season that depends when quota is caught. I ve been out after them once and failed to land a fish but many of the boats around us got a fish. I ve heard one is usually enough after bring in a 800 lb fish.
was this out of North Lake. The world record tuna, caught on rod and reel was out of this area, some time ago, may have been broken by now. I've seen several 1000 lb tuna out of North Lake, many years ago one was caught out of Annandale while I was there, just over 900 lbs. A cousins brother in law runs fishing tours in PEI. Tight Line tours.
I know it is not easy doing fishing videos, but like Wicked Tuna , the line changes colour all the time so not the same fish for the whole Vid , good to see releases thou, there is a fair bit of swapping shots
João Briz catch and release what a selfish reason. Just to serve human ego wow. We jews eat the fish and sanctifying God name by eating and inviting people to share. During meal we speak words of wisdom to elevate spark or energy concealed in the fish. By using this energy for righteous purpose the animal soul is elevated to a higher spiritual dimension. Make me laugh selfish sport fishing. U need education and go out of ur selfish ways
I'm a fisherman, I target Land based Tuna, hard to get and lots of effort. It's Good to see the release, but this is more like machine against fish not man against fish. The rig is all connected to the boat, All the guy does is turn the handle really. It just makes me appreciate the Fish, not the human.
this reminds me of the fish farms i used to go to as a kid. the tiny ponds were so stuffed with fish you just plopped your line in and immediately caught a fish. then you had to pay for the fish before leaving after 10 minutes... not fishing by any standards
If you pay attention to the gear he is using you will notice he hooked on to a fish using a red main line but when they pulled the fish up to the boat his main line was white...two different rods and two different catches.
how many years does it take to grow like that? How many tunas fish are fished everyday? is it a sporty o survival activity ? How many hungry ppl will eat from it ? is this a sinematic activity ? is this about who catch the biggest one ?
Megamanzoom EX You need the proper paper work (permit, tag, etc) in order to keep it. You can't just keep any fish that big you happen to catch depending on the waters you're fishing in. They didn't have that paper work so all they could do was catch and release it. If everyone just caught and kept every huge fish they caught the species would die out.
No expert on fish here, but how are you sure it was 1000 lbs? It was never weighed in this video. Are you going by estimates of length vs width? The fish was never measured in the video either. I'm very pleased it was released after it's gallant fight. Such a beautiful animal deserves to live free as a top ocean predator doing what it does. Given the price per pound of Bluefin in Japan...you released a Lamborghini in terms of the price it otherwise could've fetched in Japan. No small thing that. That one fish alone could've paid off my mortgage.
Watching in 2021 and seeing how much different Scott's videos are edited is crazy
Shit Can the Music!!!!!!
Honestly amazes me that you released such a valuable and delicious fish. Puts a smile on my face that you could resist keeping it.
Scott so cool you made it to the east coast of Canada! Cheers from New Brunswick
Who else watched this with the sound turned off...
fully charged me
Stup1d music, like someone is here to listen that cr4p

Yup, tuna loves to get a free lunch! Magnificent giant! Beautiful and very strong fish, she loves travelling thousand miles over the ocean visiting different continents and finally come back to the place it was "born"..
Catch and release is the only way to sustain this beautiful specimen from becoming extinct too soon.
Good job guys!
Many of these fish die after being released.
Edward Dergosits that is not true...every tagging study that has done in PEI has proven a nearly 100% survival rate
Yeah, nice on the release. Also, very few of these fish die on release. They are usually caught fairly quickly and released in good condition. An exception would be if you have a deep hooked bleeder, which is why most of these guys use circle hooks if they are planning to release the fish.

I like how they make tuna fishing look so hard on Wicked Tuna... then there are tons of UA-cam videos of guys chumming them up to the boat.
Depends on the time of year and how much pressure they're under.
hows the one big boy- he loooks at the dead bait , turns and laughs. thanks for the great underwater feeding habit shots. as you can see the fish are semi selective, that big monster must have been hungry.

It would be so awesome to make a wish and have it come true: I wish that ALL marine life would return to whatever its greatest population was in the last 2,000yrs.
Well you'd have to kill off half the population at least.
it's 5 in the morning, and I got here from star wars videos 💀
I'd like to know the rod blank as well, there was very little bend for 100lbs of drag
Cool footage! Wow, UA-cam edits has really changed in 7 years.
Yes they have..
6:40 to see the fish on the surface.
Why does your fishing line change from clear to orange so many times?
Thank you for releasing this beautiful creature!
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
It's a fish. Why are people so impressed by size? A minnow or a giant tuna, it's a fish, and probably very good eating.
James Ritchie you obviously aren't a fisherman or have no idea what a trophy fish is
Fish are meant to be eated that's the reason For created it u DUMMIE

Suddenly my "big" Abu freshwater reel looks so inadequate lmao!
Catch and release?
It looks like two different videos spliced into one, the line is orange in one second and then white/opaque in another...
3:25 is the time to start watching 👍🤜🤛
I'm a fisherman, I target Land based Tuna, hard to get and lots of effort.

is it possible to cut a tiny chunk of the meat just to sample a taste.......and release it back to the sea.......?
Did you sell it to Japan?
Was that John Baritza from Okuma you were fishing with ?
Is this pei as in pei Canada
That is big and heavy fish.😲

Saddam Hussein It’s a tuna... 😂

They released a fish worth over $5000? ...Nuts!
+D Wetick 5k? A tuna that size easily makes 300-400 grand.
+D Wetick THEY HAD TO RELEASE lT......lT lS THE LAW.
+canackcanack In China that fish would be worth 1000000 Chinese dollars or more.
WAYYYY MORE THEN 5k lml
D Wetick the are critically over fished. some fishermen such as myself release these fish in hopes of the species making a comeback .

This is fantasics
that guy with that fish just became riche af

Megamanzoom EX They fish for the fun of it, and to keep fishing it they have to release atleast some of them.
Megamanzoom EX You need the proper paper work (permit, tag, etc) in order to keep it. You can't just keep any fish that big you happen to catch depending on the waters you're fishing in. nice tuna 500-600 range......that "1000" listed in header is click bait........lol..........it worked!
xbigshot1 Yeah there’s a vid of an actual 900 pounder on youtube and you can tell this one is 600-700 range tops just from comparison
Awesome footage. The BGM, not so much.
Can I catch these fish with a Walmart fishing line
4:59 "Boys, step aside, it's show time!"
That would be a dream catch still ain't caught one yet
wooowwww...luar biasa👍👍👍
If it was 900lb when you caught it in the video how did it become 1000lb in the title???
By the way I have subcribe to your channel thanks for sharing your video
No expert on fish here, but how are you sure it was 1000 lbs? It was never weighed in this video. Are you going by estimates of length vs width? The fish was never measured in the video either. I'm very pleased it was released after it's gallant fight. Such a beautiful animal deserves to live free as a top ocean predator doing what it does. Given the price per pound of Bluefin in Japan...you released a Lamborghini in terms of the price it otherwise could've fetched in Japan. No small thing that. That one fish alone could've paid off my mortgage.
Ohhh man , this is crazy
