Its amazing how confusing this game seems at first, while actually being incredibly intuitive. You can almost always, at least with the systems, just use logic to to understand it at a basic level. Im going to have to start limiting the days I play this game to weekends only because at midnight when Im supposed to stop, I play for another 30 minites and then its 4 am. Work has been rough lately.
I have played a couple of play-throughs of this game and your Guide is still very helpful. I learned tons of stuff that I hadn't noticed before. Your explanations were clear and pointed out some features that I just skimmed over while I was playing. Thanks for enhancing this game for me.

Dude, just picked up the game. Thanks for this. I am a very experienced Civ player but, I haven't played an endless game. I was overwhelmed at first but your narration has been very helpful.
They got their planet attributes backwards, when it comes to production. The colder a place is, the more efficient production is. In our solar system, Titan for example would be a perfect place to build a monstrous production planet, because due to low temperatures, we can extract more work from our engines and generators. A hot place like Venus would have very low efficiency, because the difference in temperature for thermodynamic cycle is much, much smaller. First law of thermodynamics clearly explains this: Q is the sum of all heat transfer in a system. If ambient temperature is lower, like on Titan is -170 Celsius or something like that - rivers of methane on surface - Q is increased greatly, which means the amount of useful work we can extract, is much greater.
To a point this is true, you would still need to heat things and anything that would require low Kelvin tempatures wouldnt get too much from being on a cold planet anyway. Being in a temperate climate is best 👌
The original logic was that Lava planets are good for production because of the minerals floating around. In endless space 1 the Production planets were Jungle -> Tundra -> Lava -> Methane Gas Giant.
you've never digged through Ice apparently. lol (We Had to dig fox holes into Frozen tundra in afganistan.. would have been easier to dig in sand with a lil water, get it?) Plus The main Idea is knowing that HEAT creates chemical conversions of minerals IE Diamonds or coal in the real world.. which would not develop except near the core on a Ice planet.. Chemical reactions and changes slow down in frigid temps.. we learned this in elementry my dear watson =)
In a sense yes... however, how are you going to power the equipment that will preform the labor to gain industrial materials? Geothermal and solar are the best options until fusion technology can be developed. Just as well the closer to absolute zero the temperature becomes in a vacuum the better readings and results you will get on a subatomic level, making the cold planets for science make sense. Food for thought.
Always love your stuff, Bridger. I literally just bought this last night, and this video is so helpful I can't even tell you. Should be required viewing for anyone thinking about buying the game.
I work overnights and usually attend school full time, so my time is extremely limited. This makes experimenting with a new game prohibitively time expensive. However, I have always loved 4X games and really liked the look of Endless Space 2 (I missed the first one, probably because I'm always just too busy until I finish school at least!). Given the nature of a slow moving night job, when I'm not studying, I'm able to watch videos like this to cut down on the learning curve. And this video is one of the best. Thanks for posting
This is a life saver :) I've been playing Endless Legend for years, so I feel like I know the ins and outs of the Amplitude systems. Somehow, I still felt overwhelmed when I opened this up today. There's just enough tweaks in dozens of places, that I couldn't get going. This is one of the best guides to any game I've seen!
Thank you for doing this video. None of my normal streamers have any content on Endless Space 2 -- a game which I am interested in learning about before deciding whether or not to purchase. Thanks again. 🙂
BTW, I have like 2000 hours in Stellaris that I stopped playing a few years ago. I am getting an itch to play a new space game. I am considering this one.
I already beat this game once, despite not understanding a lot of things... Now I'm replaying it proper, so this video really helps. Fun to watch the progress too - thanks!
This has to be the best game guide I have ever watched! I bought this game for like 6 months ago but after struggling with the mechanics I just left it. Now I am ready to hit the stars again. Thanks to you!
I've been playing this game for a little while now, but didn't realize there was this much depth to the game. Thanks for the easy explanations on everything! Very helpful!
So helpful. You're a great communicator - clear, concise, entertaining. Also, you have a naturally warm, friendly voice and excellent diction. Go get some voiceover gigs, dude! Anyway, thanks for this!
Watching the introduction to the game for the Empire took me aback. I very nearly yelled "I'm doing /my/ part" at you! As a result of PTSD nasties, I had to stop and come back a LOT. Now, usually, that makes sure I lose track of where I got to, and how I got there. You have a nicely engaging approach, and somehow I never once felt I'd got lost. You are a natural educator. The game has rather more depth than most 4X games, of any type. It certainly justifies the approach you take, in setting the player up for the game, rather than ( the more common) opposite way. Thank you! Oh, and that R-click!!!!!
Hey @bridger I always thought I was too stupid for games like endless legend, civ and endless space. Thank you for this. Explained perfectly. Every 2 minutes I was going "oh wow, that's pretty neat". You have gained a new subscriber. Thank you.
Holy smokes this is a good guide! I've had this game in my steam library for years and now I might finally understand how to play it. Here's the thing I worry about youtube and other platforms. This guy put so much effort..hours of his time, into helping others get the most from a product that he doesn't share in the profits of. I hope he's been reimbursed fairly. I suspect not. But I thank him for his efforts!
I never thought I'd enjoy a game like this, but after watching this amazing tutorial I was very interested and picked it up on sale and have been really enjoying it, so for that my thanks! I tried a Civ game years ago and couldn't get into it so I just figured that that type of game wasn't for me, but this particular game hits on every interest I didn't know I had. As others have commented the interface is so good and probably the main reason it's so enjoyable. I can see many hours spent on this gem, good thing it's winter.
Glad it helped! If you like it you should look into Endless Legend, the previous game in the series, which is more like a civ game (takes place on a planet) and shares some of the lore of this game.
This video is long but worth sitting through. I actually first jumped into a game, made my mistakes and failed. Now looking at this video everything makes sense.
Very good video at explaining the basics of the game. There are similar videos but they do not explain about the game and or the reasons why choices are made and how to play the game. Your video does that very well. Thank you very much
This video is being incredibly helpful! Thanks so much for uploading it. I'm such a big noob at 4X games and I dropped ES2 quite a few times since it felt rather overwhelming.
Many thanks for your very detailed guide which really helps me understand the game mechanics unlike the games tutorial. I abide by the 34th rule of acquisition: "War is good for business".
This video is awesome, even if it was created 2 years ago! Yesterday I'have bought this game because I really liked Stellaris and was just searching for something similar. However Endless Space 2 feels way too overwhelming to me. There are so many mechanics that I couldn't understand as quickly as in Stellaris. Your video really helped me a lot to understand this game and its laws, thank you :) And its easy to understand why this video is over 3 hours long - it's just because this game is so complex that it needs to took so much time to explain everything, good job! :)
Glad it helped! The core game has not changed much since I made this video (not like stellaris which had major overhauls of several systems), so the video holds up pretty well.
@@Bridger15 That's right, Stellaris got large overhaul over time, especially with new planetary management system (which I don't like personally) and added more stuff like new Leviathans, events (L-Cluster for example) and such. However I think it got some performance issues too. Are you planning on adding new guides about Endless Space 2? Not long time ago the devs released The Awakening DLC and from this video they released even more features such as hacking etc. which are really confusing for me right now :D However what I like in Endless Space 2 more than in Stellaris is its overall graphical look and THIS UI which, I agree, is awesome :)
I just got into Endless Legends and wanted to see its sister game to see how it is. Currently watching this video and learning some tips that actually help me out in Endless Legends since both games have lot of similarities. Also, you are a very good at teaching things, nice job.
I just picked the game up last night to try out, after having played Endless Legends for a while. So far it's pretty fun. Though I picked the Unfallen as the first race I tried out, who work REALLY differently, which is interesting. Still learned a lot of stuff from watching this vid.
Thanks Hank! I wish I could dedicate more time to it. I've noticed that the quality of my videos declines when I'm not energized about what I'm doing. I'm trying to only put together videos and/or streams when I'm really feeling into it (which is often when I have days off from work).
Yea i feel you lol, add me on steam if you ever need someone to play with im down lol. My user is Kephler and the picture will be a weird robot bug thing
Fully agree with your little rant about the UI, they made some great decisions on this and it clearly elevates the game over what it would have been had they been lazy
great tutorial. i was always afraid of playing these kind of games. only played shogun 2 so far and got its mechanics. but this is my first one. thanks for great guide.
I will say that they make really cool systems, but their balance and AI is weak when the games release. The Balance is getting better, and the AI is getting better. It's never quite....sufficient to make it enjoyable when you get good. MP might be the way to go.
Watching 2 years later because I was craving more Dungeon otE but never played a 4x. This is real intuitive if you played Dungeon. Science, industry, food, dust are all familiar
Yeah i agree UI is great in this game so is Information Architecture. It's nice when people see things that are design to be "unseen" because normally you notice those things when they are bad.
good guide, helped A LOT to figure wth is going on in my 1 game also: owns a system with 5 anomalies - takes +20 industry building instead +5 science per person :D
For a new player's count there are a couple of things you didn't know :D (Exiles for examples). But in general you explained it pretty well and detailed.
Just getting into this game, I wish I knew about it sooner. I had played Space Empires 5 and it was obviously a big fail but I've looked for games like it with no avail or again like a failed game. Love how similar this is and done right. I like the ship upgrades and retrofitting and all that.
2:21:28 hahahahaha my only regret is that this series isn't in 1080p, thanks a lot mate! Hope you can do a reboot of the series, with latest patches and stuff.
Caught it on sale three days ago on steam. Woot! Been eye balling this game ever since it dropped. Unfortunately, haven’t played it since I’m playing deadfire
As a new player I am having one hell of a time trying to expand I seem to ALWAYS have a neighbor by me that expands instantly on 3 worlds and I can't fight them off their planet cuz the AI throws 90 ships out some how at like turn 15
In regards to that space farer Horatio, you mentioned near the end of your video. I'm sure I know where the devs got the idea from. There is a british television show called Red Dwarf, I think it's in season 5 or 6, but there is an episode called Rimmerworld. It's quite hilarious. Give it a watch, if you get the chance, it's quite funny.
A nice, very helpful video. Helped me understand the game a lot! Only thing I didn't like was the desync/lag of the video, it was jumping around like crazy where it skipped over a lot of stuff where you were trying to show some stuff, but thankfully you explained everything pretty well so I was able to understand most of it when I played for myself. :)
PSA: Endless Space 2 is 66% off until Feb 5. 2019. Endless Space 1 is free if you as per the devs announcement through their platform (link to Steam). Oddly enough Endless Space 1 is like 1$ if get it on steam and not through the platform free way.
a little correction how praise works: Each praise has it#s pown timer, although only the last activated one will be ever shown. so the most effecient in terms of spend influence is to come back every 20 turns to praise and not earlier. The most effecient in time of course , without any waste, is to just dumb 5 praises into each minor faction. Interesting enough, discovering curiosities seem to add the to it's timer, instead of stacking extra gains upon each other
At first I was like "do I really want to watch a 3 hour guide?", but since starting the video, I can't help but listen to everything you say. Super awesome video

Thank you.
Welcome!
Really helpful, but I feel we missed something important with the editing derp at 53:38 :-\ Thanks anyway, this game is complex!!
Thank you for the review. I didn't get to watch all of it, but it gave me a good idea what to expect if I were to take interest in the game.
Very good video at explaining the basics of the game. There are similar videos but they do not explain about the game and or the reasons why choices are made and how to play the game. Your video does that very well. Thank you very much
So glad I found this. You deserve more subscribers. I will let mine know of your work. Great stuff.
This is really helpful, just picked this up in the steam sale and was totally lost at first. Thanks man!
You're welcome! I'm glad it helped!
Just bought this game and have *NO CLUE* how to play. Thanks for this video.
Me and you both lol.
ANY GOOD?
Just love how he explained everything. Thanks you!
just bought off steam for £14.00 on steam sale other day, so glad ive found this video
Dude you sound a little like Tom Hanks and Im loving it
I hear that a little bit, but more John de Lancie ("Q") to my ears.
I just got into Endless Legends and wanted to see its sister game to see how it is. Currently watching this video and learning some tips that actually help me out in Endless Legends since both games have lot of similarities. Also, you are a very good at teaching things, nice job.
Thanks! I do enjoy teaching things like this :)
Thanks for taking the time to make this helpful video. Endless Space 2 was definitely not easy for me to learn.
Funny i put this while I was in my bed, got at sleep in the middle and got nightmares with this game
I just picked the game up last night to try out, after having played Endless Legends for a while. So far it's pretty fun. Though I picked the Unfallen as the first race I tried out, who work REALLY differently, which is interesting. Still learned a lot of stuff from watching this vid.
appreciate the play-through and introduction to the game!
Surprisingly solid channel, great quality and nice long videos. Deserved more subs tbh
Wow this game is so up my alley. Also, great video! It really helped me make a decision to go ahead and give this game a go.
I have just discovered this game. i was struggling with lots of aspects of the UI. But now it makes a lot more sense. TY =)
That intro gave me Starship Troopers vibes lol I love it.
I got this game and even though I like the lore and system's I had no clue how to play 4x. Great video
Fully agree with your little rant about the UI, they made some great decisions on this and it clearly elevates the game over what it would have been had they been lazy
I can't get over how much you sound like John de Lancie (Q from Star Trek). Seems appropriate given this guide is for a space game.
I cant unhear it now XD
17:11
So its basically spice from Dune :)
Great intro. Came from Stelaris and was having trouble. Just what I was looking for. Keep up the great work.
Got it for my laptop. hears it runs well on low settings. haven't played yet but cant wait to check it out
great tutorial. i was always afraid of playing these kind of games. only played shogun 2 so far and got its mechanics. but this is my first one. thanks for great guide.
Amazing looking game. im reaching for the wallet now!
Great Guide. I remember your GW2 podcast fondly. This is no different. Well produced and organized. Subbing.
Excellent video! Looking forward to playing it.
I think you have a crush on the game devalopers lol. Seriously its really fun to see you enjoy this game A LOT. Good work! ^^
I will say that they make really cool systems, but their balance and AI is weak when the games release. The Balance is getting better, and the AI is getting better. It's never quite....sufficient to make it enjoyable when you get good. MP might be the way to go.
SO human's faction is like the Imperium of Men.... I LOVE IT..... hope they got titans.
Watching 2 years later because I was craving more Dungeon otE but never played a 4x. This is real intuitive if you played Dungeon. Science, industry, food, dust are all familiar
Bidger! Remember you broadcasting CoH games many years ago. Subscribed! Nice tutorial.
Yeah i agree UI is great in this game so is Information Architecture. It's nice when people see things that are design to be "unseen" because normally you notice those things when they are bad.
good guide, helped A LOT to figure wth is going on in my 1 game
also: owns a system with 5 anomalies - takes +20 industry building instead +5 science per person :D
Amplitude game made a terrible tutorial system. Look how many people got happy with the video tutorial.
For a new player's count there are a couple of things you didn't know :D (Exiles for examples). But in general you explained it pretty well and detailed.
Always nice being taught how to rule the galaxy by someone who sounds like John de Lancie.
Thanks for posting this video. Game has a tough learning curve. This helps a lot!
Thanks for this!
Just picked the game up on sale and your video helps a lot! Keep it up.
The human intro totally is a spoof on Starship Troopers. I half expected popups coming on screen asking if I wanted to know more.
Thomas Neal service guarantees citizenship
Thanks for this vid! So many things I didn't understand that I do now after watching.
Good tutorial video. I just wish these space 4x games wouldn't all start out as "we all learned how to space at the same time"
Caught it on sale three days ago on steam. Woot! Been eye balling this game ever since it dropped. Unfortunately, haven’t played it since I’m playing deadfire
2:28:23 “WOW!!! THAT’S ALOT MORE DUST!”
I had the same reaction too
As a new player I am having one hell of a time trying to expand I seem to ALWAYS have a neighbor by me that expands instantly on 3 worlds and I can't fight them off their planet cuz the AI throws 90 ships out some how at like turn 15
Good explanation on the game. Like really good. I really wanna play the way it should be.
52:09 That's one big-ash planet.
I just loved how he said "a HUUUUGE ash planet" XD
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Watched your video which helped alot then bought the game right away!
Oh man, your avatar is the GDI symbol. That's old school. Glad it helped!
Thank you.
Very well done, although I am curious how much you accidentally left out with that mid-sentence jump at 53:37.
Only about 10 seconds. Had a weird break in the video I had to repair.
Every time you say, "period!" ... I think, "Spicey!? Is that you?"
great vid, looking forward to more like it. thanks 4 uploading. have a nice night. :)
Me brain is definately getting more powerful as a result of this video. It's 3+ hours i don't want back!
Way too bl00dy complicated for a shootout guy like myself! Thanks for the heads-up!
PSA: Endless Space 2 is 66% off until Feb 5. 2019. Endless Space 1 is free if you as per the devs announcement through their platform (link to Steam). Oddly enough Endless Space 1 is like 1$ if get it on steam and not through the platform free way.
Wish you could update this with timestamps or have another playthrough with a different race
a little correction how praise works: Each praise has it#s pown timer, although only the last activated one will be ever shown. so the most effecient in terms of spend influence is to come back every 20 turns to praise and not earlier. The most effecient in time of course , without any waste, is to just dumb 5 praises into each minor faction. Interesting enough, discovering curiosities seem to add the to it's timer, instead of stacking extra gains upon each other
Intro reminds me of Star Ship troopers promotion for the military lol. " you can do your part, squash bugs!
