Okay, lets recap:
- They started this game during a time, when hero shooters were at a high, expecting, that it will stay this way.
- They spent 8 years(?) developing this game, while everyone else released their hero shooter.
- They release it during a time, where the market was already oversaturated with these games and gamers were thusly very tired of the concept.
- Their game plays it SO safe, that it does everything by the numbers and brings nothing new to the table.
- Their design is terrible, especially with the characters.
- Game is generic as fuck, even bad at times.
- They still charge money for it, while their biggest competition is free.
And everyone else is at fault...
...I am so sick of people, that have been pampered in their childhood/youth, to believe, that they're all winners.
Losing is part of life and they're just now are getting confronted with the concept.
Sure...keep telling yourself, that everyone else made a shitty game.

No interesting characters.
A price point that is infinity higher than other games in the same genre offers.
The only thing that made Concord stand out was its politics. And that kind of politics is not interesting for most people. Most of the people that support that kind of politics do not even know what they are actually supporting as they have not explored the politics they support.

nah this is is unironically one of the worst failures throughout ANY form of media in the modern day. I can not think of a single thing that failed harder than this.
Even some of history's biggest movie flops are $150-200M in losses. I think this is bigger than that due to how much more time was put into this game and what they actually had planned; movies are just released whereas Concord had an entire universe they were planning to build around this game that is now dead. So yeah, I would honestly have to agree.

The gaming industry still talks about how big of a failure E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600 was and that was in 1982. This will beat that level of failure.

E.T. was a much worse game, but in terms of the financial hit Sony took with concord, it's a whole new level of failure. Concord isn't the worst game in the world when it comes to gameplay obviously, it's everything else about it that's terrible.
I dunno, ET was a standout failure from a time with a much smaller market, and from a fairly iconic IP.
Whilst this is an utter failure, the IP is going to be forgotten, and I'm sure it's going to be one amongst many failed big budget games.
The crash was still happening even without ET. It was more of just a poster child of everything going wrong at the time.

I worked for Sony, the studio I worked for got closed ( london studio) we were working on a brand new IP, nothing on the market is similar to it in anyway and Sony banked on concord instead of us..... I am still pissed about it.

They lose more the 100% because all reimbursements of that level will lose the 1-2% the payment provider takes out forthemselves. Also Steam might have some contractual obligations for them in case they have a large number of refunds, it would be funny as hell if steam kept their 30% cut. It would be hilarious if they lost that, although at a few thousand or at best low tens of thousands it is not such a big loss :))

Overwatch is free, has hot characters, and fun gameplay -----> does great despite its shortcomings/failure to live up to its pve promise.
The First Descendant is free, also has hot characters and fun gameplay -----> does great despite charging 100's of dollars for random costumes.
The common denominator here is that both these games are free and have attractive characters that are both interesting and appealing whilst giving the player, a reason to care.

Concord wasn't just a failure in that not many people bought it, but it was banished to the shadow realm. Even if you liked it you can't keep playing it. Sony rolled in like Xerxes from 300: "I will erase you from the histories"

They didn't make any money. Estimated cost for game and studio was 200 million and that was before the launch of the game. In the 2 weeks they had to continue to pay wages, office rent, electricity and server costs. Plus they only madee 70% of the Steam sales, since Valve keeps 30% up to a certain amount of games sold.
So the actual money back is: 0. It actually just became a bigger financial loss than before launch, since the paltry sum covers none of their post-launch costs.
This is what deserves everyone who promotes “diversity and equality genders”. This insanity of promoting bullsh*t has to stop!

It's not even that, it's about fat and ugly being seen as character traits - f.e. Warhog and Junkrat in Overwatch aren't exactly sexy but their interactions, battle barks, skills etc. give them more character than just "DEI checkbox - anti fatfobia, fighting beauty standards" even if we skip all stuff Blizzard put outside of game.

The only thing that makes me happy about this kind of stuff is that it keeps offline single-player games alive. While every other company wants to grab the attention of their customers, you have many games like Elden Ring, Black Myth Wukong, Red Dead Redemption, Baldur's Gate 3, and many other games that require no online connectivity to play. There are no microtransactions or BS, and it still sells for millions of copies. Meanwhile, online games barely scratch the 500k to 1 million copies; if they do, most likely have a campaign mode, which most people are interested in.
There are a few online games that break the mold and do their own thing and have become instant successes. For example, Team Fortress, Fortnite, League of Legends, and the likes that break away from the meta to be different enough to be addictive, easy to learn, and hard to master. But it gets boring quickly when you see too many copy-paste games with different skins.
