It’s pretty simple to understand, really. Hero shooters are, at their core, mascot games. When you have uninteresting, colorless, unappealing mascots, then your game isn’t gonna take off. There is no world where Concord does well no matter how much gameplay is changed because there is no appeal to the characters/character designs
And yet, the ammount of coping that "the charcaters aren't at fault", "being woke has nothing to do with it", "it's an oversaturated/dying genre" going around would fill a server farm. It'd only take off with such uninteresting characters if there was no competition at all or if the gameplay was leagues ahead of it (which it could never be because of the simple opportunity cost of "playing it safe" and focusing on dei meant time and resources taken away from these core elements). But even then, alienating their largest, most reliable consumer base in order to reach new (modern), more games-journalist-friendly demographics could only ever make that impossible job harder. Even people who don't oppose dei, hell, even people who avidly support it wouldn't play it. They just aren't be able to quite put their finger on the reason why.
Yeah once you understand IGNs review scores it makes sense, they don't give anything under a 7, which means something getting a 7 is an incredibly low score and it's a terrible game. They do this to keep positive relationships with companies so they give them money.

As an artist myself - this game has some of the absolute worst visual design I've ever seen. The characters are terribly boring or just downright ugly, the color scheme looks like a technocolor Brady Bunch bedroom, and nothing really feels dynamic whatsoever.
All the characters looked washed out and muted. The color palettes are honestly kinda nauseating. The whole pale green/purple/teal/maroon palette is not interesting or flattering in any context. Even the models look very basic and lacking in anything unique or even appealing. You can tell they tried to a variety of races and body types into the characters, but they spent more time on that than trying to make the characters look actually interesting and make people want to play them. They lack the cool factor that Overwatch and other hero shooters have.
I agree. A lot of people say it's because they're woke but it's not even that, it's the colors and how they look like bad cosplayers in a comic convention. Their clothes don't belong to them. They weren't well-designed at all, and I feel it's so hard to fuck up colors this bad.

Gaming journalism has to be the tightest, most concentrated echo chamber of all time. Only 2000 people but they're so determined to be right that they'd argue against 2 million
There are millions apon millions of gamers all over the world and a tiny cohort of mostly US/UK game journalists who deny reality and push the narrative in lock step.
Dude, it's sad. I'm a game journalist - not in the US though and all of these outlets had really good people - gamers, people who care deeply about games. But the majority were replaced with so called culture editors - Kotaku and Polygon especially have hired a ton of women who didn't had any gaming background, so they encounter games as movies and tv shows within the left bubble. You probably know that Amazon and other streaming services have really strict guidelines how they make tv shows now - certain percentage black, certain percentage Latin, certain percentage of characters need to be openly LGBTQ - if you deliver a script, you need to check a ton of boxes. And this is how they approach games - they don't know the mechanics or care about them, all that matters is that it checks a large list of diversity requirements.
And the overwhelming majority of them live on the same couple of cities. It's to be expected that their "lived experiences", priorities and tastes would be so lacking in diversity.
He also claims to have spent "over 40 hours" playing a game that was released just 4 days prior... and averaged about 500 players during that timeframe. My guess? The reviewer didn't even play a single minute of this game
One thing Asmon didn't mention about game comebacks, is that both Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky had lots of hype when they came out had massive sales and lots of people playing on day one. So even after the interest dropped there was still a lot of residual intrest and memory of the game, this means there was great number of people the comeback could appeal to. Concords peak player count is 697, it has no chance for big return, because there will be noone who could return.
Yup. The true first impressions of those games (the announcements that built a LOT of hype) are why those games were able to come back. Disappointment players wanted the game to be good and were willing to give it a second look. By comparison, this game went over like a fart in the wind from the onset. What's left of the HotS community's competitive side still ahs a format called "Meta Madness" in which within each set of matches a hero can only be picked once, so if say red team picks Raynor in game 1, neither team gets to pick him in game 2-5. It's actually really cool because it leads to almost every character getting picked (basically 88/89 characters will be picked at least sometimes) and rare team comps and strategies are used, it's also the most fun format to watch. Considering how bad ign reviewers seem to be at playing games, I can totally buy they spent 40 hours in Wukong without making it to Chapter 3. My favorite part about all that was their game impression article from a few months back where they said they saw no "femme coded" character models and asked the developers if any were in the game, to which the developers refused to answer. Turns out there were tons of them but game science knew exactly what ign was trying to do and refused to play their childish games. That infuriated them.

7 from their site’s scoring explanation means that it covers the checkboxes within the game’s genre, but either doesn’t innovate beyond that or fails in any new design added. Concord getting a 7 makes sense
The reason IGN do this is because, although they are fully aware the game is trash, if the developers bend the knee regarding ‘the message’ and shoehorn a load of DEI into it, the legacy media will give them a pass. This is how the entire world works now

Yeah, I love how asmond didn't press that harder. But also really concerning as to why states are trying to pass age restriction laws on corn sites. I don't wanna give my ID but I'm pressed because I also don't want young kids on those sites. Sure, as a 13 year old I found sites for say looking at Misty pics, but I'm a Fd up adult because of that sooooo idk.
@@BoinkrNanis The problem is that it's not going to solve the issue. It's fighting the symptoms instead of the disease. The actual problem is parents not keeping enough of an eye on their children. Giving your kids a device with unfiltered access to the internet is like giving them a tour of the back alleys of Calcutta on a humid Saturday night. They're gonna be seeing some serious stuff. Adding ID requirement for specific corn sites won't stop that, because A) not all sites are based in the US and therefore not all sites will ever be subject to this regulation to begin with and B) new sites will pop up and allow access to adult material without that filter until some overworked and underpaid government agency gets around to sending that cease and desist even if they COULD enforce it. If the government had the sort of access and control they needed to actually make all adult sites lock content behind ID, we wouldn't still be able to pirate movies. The push to stop that was massive. Billion dollar multimedia giants pulled every lever they had to stop music and movie piracy any yet the newest movie release is just one google search away. What they NEED to do is to educate parents on how to limit and monitor what their children watch. To teach parents how to educate their children about the dangers of the internet the same way they would teach them to stay away from that one street corner where the dealers/hookers hang out. It's also not going to completely remove accidental exposure, but it's a damn sight more effective than trying to lock the internet away so parents don't have to parent. I'm pretty sure the government knows this and the reason they push for ID is to get a foot in the door of a more complete surveillance state. Right now the government can spy on your internet habits but needs probable cause to actually use anything they find. They can't let on just how much they know about your activities online because that information is supposed to be confidential. If they can push tying your IP or other login credentials to your ID, they suddenly have a lot more leeway to "become aware" of your activities online. Not necessarily terrible if you're somewhat internet savvy and can use proxies and burner devices to keep your activities unconnected to your government identity, but certainly a huge stride in locking down the access to information, behaviour and habits of the general population.

Most critics agree that the gameplay is not exactly bad. Problem is, that the gameplay is just medicore while asking for money for a type of game that has way too many free alternatives. I don't think, that anyone could make a paid hero shooter at this point, and win. No matter how great the gameplay is. To have any hope of doing something like that you need to create an alternative gamestyle. Like a great single player campaign with a great story, and maybe a CO-OP beside the hero shooter. Multiplayer focused games cannot live without players, and thus the players need to be pulled in. The number of players directly affect the experience for a game like this.
Regardless of any issues this game has, it's a multiplayer game with 100 total players. This review should be plastered with red flags like "this game may not survive the rest of the week, let alone a year, buyer beware." Getting even 1 person to waste 40$ with this review is shameful. @@paulodelima5705 I didn't say it's a 6/10, I said a review that has more positives than negatives by a small margin is a 6/10 because a game with the same positives and negatives would be a 5/10. Nailed it. Best comment.

We will never benefit from having these people within the gaming space. Gatekeeping is necessary for all hobbies, including gaming. Otherwise you dilute your core audience in what is called "hobby tourists", AKA people _only_ using the hobby as either a propaganda piece toward the original core audience, a pretext for social meetings or dating opportunities, or just opportunistic power creeps seeking easy "wins" by lowering the standard of the hobbies' rules.

200,000,000

@@BoinkrNanis I'm amazed that people forgot about parental controls. The ID push online thing is not what you think it is.

That's actually part of the problem, they don't look like they belong in the same universe.
Even aliens from different planets in games or shows share some similar design aesthetics.
This game is all over the place
To be honest, the robot looks more like a knock off Astro boy, if he was wearing a suit of armor
4:10 Seeing the gameplay, it looks very much like Destiny’s gameplay. So much so that it seems like it was taken from that and put into this, or at least modeled from that.

@@TurdFerguson-td9nx Unless this is your first time playing ARPG, its below average and not worth the full price. No innovation, lack of storage because of useless materials, repetitive mechanics mobs and bosses, difficult to control mounts, predictable dull story after all the hype with Lilith, and cooler armor sets need to be purchased. This is just some of the cons which Blizzard needs to take seasons to fix. Its just a subpar at max 6-7 rating game at launch. I had more fun and immersion playing Diablo 1 or 2.

How can something evolve if it's already dead?
Life finds a way...
Travis Northump who reviewed Concord and gave it a 7, gave The First Descendant a 5. The First Descendant had 64k people playing it today with an all time peak over 250k. Concord currently has 64. Talk about being out of touch. And no. Being F2P won't help Concord. Its rot runs deep.
While I agree Concord isn't a great game, player count is the least credible way to judge them. There are plenty of amazing games that go under the radar and have low play count because of no publicity.
Because TFD isn't woke trash and has hot asian women.
They had an open beta, which didn't reach 700 players. The game arrived dead.
@@mtbarnes1In this particular context, Concord is a AAA live service game. The fact that it has this low of a player count is significant. The entire point of live service is to maintain a high playerbase for a long period of time.

That little brother story about seeing OW Mercy _"Wait, she's on a game?"_ I guess I knew where that brother saw Mercy. 😂
I didn't know either. Rule 34 content is wide and far with overwatch.
There's people who play Overwatch 2 instead of just enjoying the SFM?
I honestly dont think the game looks bad. But at a price of 40$ , even if you buy this, none of your friends are gonna come along, and certainly not when there are 10+ games that offer the same for free and those friends are already playing those games. Valorant, Overwatch, deadlock, tf2, Fortnite, apex Legends, the finals, Warzone... All free, are you telling me to buy Concord for 40?😂
Most critics agree that the gameplay is not exactly bad.
I do not even care one iota whether this is a good or bad game. Not even warning people about this games dead player base should be criminal. If nothing else, this IGN review absolutely cements the notion that all IGN reviews should be thrown in the trash.

I saw one of the main Push Square writers trying to justify their 7/10 score basically saying "In the industry it's basically a game with more positives than negatives"...Like first, that's a 6/10, secondly you're justifying "more positives than negatives" with stuff like "It has no microtransactions...yet" "The game doesn't have alot of bugs" stuff that is literally expected of the game at a bare minimum is now considered weight on the positive side of the scale to give it 7/10 🤦♂
They'd get alot more respect if they said 7/10 (yes we are pandering to get future codes and access -2/-3 on any score we put out for this reason).
No. It is not a 6/10 since games like this have design problems and lots of bugs. Any game that does not have a clear design problem gets at least a 7.
@@paulodelima5705 I didn't say it's a 6/10, I said a review that has more positives than negatives by a small margin is a 6/10 because a game with the same positives and negatives would be a 5/10. A 7/10 would be a game with decent positives over negatives, not expected things every game should have as it's positives. Concord should be a 5/10.
