The fact that they hire people who dont even like the franchise is crazy, WHY DO WE LIVE IN THIS TIMELINE?!?!?! "you dont like star wars, here have a show" "you dont like devil may cry, have a game" "you dont like lord of the rings, have a show and make it your own" "you dont like halo, have the franchise for ten years" "you dont like gamers, be our community manager" ITS FUCKING WILD!!!
Its more like "we make games to make money " and not for having fun and add to evil dont like fun or laughs much - so remove the fun and make more money
It's not crazy when you consider that GamerGate fired up a bunch of normies to be alarmed about gaming, so much so that they are entering the industry to test it down from within.
Let me guess: A major corporation laid off their most senior staff (including the creative leads responsible for creating the IP) because the C-suite thought they were paid too much.
It's still hilarious to me that they named their studio after the character that shoots a fan favorite character in the back and then betrays you, the Player.
@@smokey363 most people agree Reach was “the beginning of the end.” I liked Reach but many didn’t. Still, there was a massive population even during Reaches lifecycle. But I don’t think it came close to Halo 3. 1 million concurrent players for months, once new Cod’s started coming out that’s when it started to see a drop but was still one of, if not, the most played games
@@BlueElitefromHaloCE i can’t argue with facts. i was more speaking from my personal experience, i personally think 4 was the beginning of the end. last enjoyable multiplayer and for me it was a “good enough” story, not peak tho
Thats what happens when you create a studio specifically to work on one franchise. 343 was created for Halo and without Halo the studio is gone, which tbh wouldnt be a problem.
Microsoft is inept, just don’t care for Xbox, or 343 has blackmail on them. Halo 4 was a decent start, halo 5 nose dived, halo infinite was promising but horribly miss managed which lead to its failure, my favourite halo game in the 343 era is halo wars 2 as that game was good and I say era cause I think it was outsourced to a different company to make that game gave us the banished and more flood content that slapped
There are probably execs in Microsoft who are still upset about Halo taking a huge limelight out of their success - there's a famous story about a convention where Bill Gates showed up, a bunch of people came to talk with him, then a promotional guy in Master Chief's armor walked up and everyone ditched Gates for him. Even though Bill Gates isn't in charge of Microsoft anymore I can imagine that rubbed him the wrong way. In the case of 343i they just lie to the shareholders and keep showing the numbers that they do still make from whales and newer customers and it's enough to consider them profitable. It's why I refuse to play any of the new stuff - the very last thing I ever bought from 343 was the Master Chief collection, I've never touched Guardians or Infinite and I never will.
I still remember when it came out that 343's writers were genuinely confused that people considered Master Chief the main character. They couldn't understand why having their OC deck Master Chief pissed people off. This is not hyperbole. They actually made public statements about how surprised and confused they were. This was a direct consequence of going out of their way to only hire people with ZERO experience with the franchise and taking an absurd amount of pride in that fact. Yes, this was also something they made a public statement on. They NEVER should have been given the Halo IP.
I wish there would come a studio that gets back to the roots like with Halo Reach and Halo 1-3. What i mean is the artstyle, the music and generally the looks of the game. The gameplay should be modern of course but thats it. I want back that real halo feeling we had when there were all these cool trailers from halo like Landfall, Halo 3 trailer etc.
Play Halo Reach (original on Xbox 360) and you will see what a real female spartan is supposed to look like. The male and female models were accurate and well done. The ones on Halo infinite were dumbed down as it were, made to be non-binary. As a woman, I would prefer to play a woman in good shape than a character that is in bad shape and doesn't look good.
So random and take with a grain of salt, I watched a video a while back where supposedly 343 hated getting Halo. I'm a Halo fan and when 343 took over the stories are hard to remember and didn't make alot of sense to me. Could just be dumb on my part but I have dropped halo but just my two cents.
I mean that’s why Star Wars sucks people who don’t care or respect it’s lore were let in and now it sucks, the removed the EU you know how many good shows or movies you could make from that heck KOTR millions in profit right there
@@xrubywolfx9082 They were all ex-CoD devs. The Call of Duty franchise was rival to Halo for years. During the phase where some devs wanted to make something different than just a bog-standard generic modern-setting shooter a bunch quit and went on to make their own thing - some went to make Respawn and made Titanfall, the others became 343. 343i never wanted to make Halo, but Halo was their safest option because it guaranteed they could sell their crappy game. If 4 was its own shooter unrelated to the Halo franchise it would have been a decent game, but instead it was a slap to the face and atrocious at best. Microsoft couldn't care less about it being good because it was making sales and many corporations have long adapted the doctrine of "ignore the haters they'll shut up after a month" which has led to the sorry state of the industry today.
Halo WAS THEEEEE game in 2005-2012. I remember skipping school, inviting friends over, staying up til 7am ALL NIGHT playing matchmaking. Making friends and even meeting those friends. It was THE GAME.
The main problem is, is that they couldn't even release Halo infinite with the same basic features that Halo 3 had. Why is it that Counter-Strike can still be successful with the same basic gameplay from the year 2000? Because it's still good. Could Halo benefit from Battle Royal? Sure, but they can't even get down the basics that made Halo good in the first place.
CSGO success is not because of that. It has more to do with it being Free to Play from the same company that owns the store, also organizing Tournaments with massive payoffs yearly or even more often.
As a Chinese guy who grow up with console ban in the country, still find way to play the Halo 1,2,3 in some illegal console game arcades. Such a good memory to play with my buddies in split screen. Now grown up with the ability to afford the newest console only to find out the good old time is no where to be found again.
At least emulation is pretty easy. Nowadays you can get (from China as well as other places) a handheld that plays Halo as well as Final Fantasy. No multiplayer, though.

Microsoft would have to take accountability for killing Halo for supporting 343 over and over, they don't want that PR nightmare. So it's the old lets just keep supporting the trash and lose some money and release junk rather then accept we messed up and face the much bigger problem.
It's a backwards world we live in. The incompetent rise to the top and stay there, the people who can actually produce something of quality get the boot.

Bonnie Ross made it very clear in an interview that SHE wanted to own Halo and have it with her name on it and nobody else's. "I wanted it to be MINE", paraphrasing, but not far off. Her "name" also included 343. Her stepping away out of fear of being outed for her sheer greed was the canary in the coalmine. This entire studio is in it for the wrong reason.
You know, everything you said reminded me of something Scott the Woz said once in a video, that since 343 was basically put together to make more Halo games after Bungie dipped, it's probably not going to result in good games because the people aren't making the games because they want to or have ideas for it - but rather out of obligation.
I still don't get this mindset. Why would someone want to make a name for themselves by snubbing the original creators and parasiting off their property? If I got to work with the creator of a property I liked, I would be so elated and honored to work with them. Even if it was a property I wasn't interested in, I would still see the creator as a fount of wisdom and work to carry on their vision. I just don't get it. These people must be filled with some kind of resentment. 😮
No matter how bad halo gets, I’ll stand by it for the rest of my life. The nostalgia factor is huge with me. These new kids will never understand having Halo parties where friends were bringing their TVs and consoles to your basement and play all night while ordering shit tons of pizza. And we had those big box tvs where you had to hit the screen to fix it. Maan the feels is too much. Halo is my childhood.
Yes that maybe so, but Halo 3 is where everything kicked off fanmade projects, short films, machinima's and Forge. Edit: I'm not saying Machinima and short films in general started with Halo 3. I'm saying Halo Community made short films, machinima's and projects Peaked when Halo 3 came out. Sorry for the confusion!
@Despondent- Nah, that just means it hit the mainstream thanks to its predecessors. Honestly, without those 2, I highly doubt you'd still hear amything from Halo.
Infinite didn't fail because of a lack of BR. It failed because it was missing basic features out of the box. It failed because the "launch" felt exactly like the "beta" we played for weeks. It failed because, yes, 343 did not have their finger on the pulse of the community. Shunting the story to all happen off screen was a terrible idea, and there's been no word as to what's coming next. Halo 4 at least has Spartan Ops, with weekly installments.
Exactly. The beta was the retail stripped down. There was no difference. Halo 5 beta was the same thing. The second round beta was the same as retail. The first halo 5 beta was almost the same but they changed the aimi g for the worse.
No co-OP splitscreen, no theather mode, no forge(ETC WERE THEY THINKING),ETC. At the start as well. RIP classic halo, take us back to the machinima days
Yes, it did. As a life-long Halo fan who even spent money on the first month of Infinite, I basically tried it twice after that first month and haven't played other than that. The game sucks, even with them adding my beloved Firefight and theater, as well as the forge with custom games, I still don't play it. If they had a battle royale, I'd be installing right this minute. You don't have to care about Battle Royales, many people do and the numbers would show.
Correct.. infinite was a downgrade from halo mcc or even halo 5... Halo MCC took like 4 or 5 years to finally be worthy of playing. If anyone played it in 2014 at launch would realize how bad it was.
I have to agree, I hated it when it came out and I still dislike how the Spartans were killed on screen. It was budget friendly for sure. Still on the fence about armour abilities and loadouts, made it a lot more like Call of Duty(first Halo to do so). But it had a certain realism to it. Everything seemed purpose designed, utilitarian, used/gritty/dirty, even the soldiers, vehicles, and landscape. The following tittles were so polished, unnecessary, levels with loads of lights and moving objects with no explanation or real purpose in mind. Flashy moving graphics for the sake of it, just to try and showboat in some way. I could take Halo 4 in ways. But it truly was something different at that point with very little remaining from the original franchise. After that, my favourite childhood franchise, and escape was wrecked like others, milked for merchandising, micro transactions, and making too diverse a story/plot to satisfy too many age groups. Halo needs to find it's footing again soon or it I'm afraid it will be another franchise just reminisced about. Just my opinion
@@danielmirlach4655 I mean they did a good job with Halo Infinite, it nearly made me cry to have back that Halo feeling lol :D Well the problem was the monotnous gameplay and open world.

That's the reality. We can go back and play those games again, thankfully, but to expect Halo to ever recapture those times and that magic is folly. It can't happen. The best case scenario is a cool spin off in the theme of Helldivers, but they are so stuck digging up the corpse of Master Chief. They can't do anything beyond that aside from Halo Wars 2
The Halo Infinite intros are stupid as hell. Remove them. Also, fix Halo: MCC. It’s littered with game breaking and account banning hackers. The BEST multiplayer PVP experience is on the MCC, and it’s ruined. BR should have been on release. Asmon’s best take ever.
Spoke with a former 343 employee one time who also worked for Bungie before they split. 343 was originally made up of remnants from Bungie that stayed at Microsoft. He said there was a lot of bad blood and pettiness between Bungie and 343 after the split
@@kylesawkon4074 Well, Microsoft was practically abusing Bungie. To stay with Microsoft would be to work with the hand that denied everything you wanted. Bungie wanted to make Halo closer to Reach, but was denied every time to make the safest game possible.

Halo’s probably the best example to show what’s wrong with the gaming industry nowadays. How come we had better games 2001 - 2012 and more than a decade later we can’t get half the content these games had. That’s with longer development time and a quite bigger money pool.
Microsoft can shutdown Tango Studios after a successful game, but then allow 343 to getaway with ruining their Flagship game for 10 years? Make it make sense..

The biggest problem is that there are only two types of Halo players: 1. People that have been playing Halo since the begining, that are now around 30/40 years old and the only thing they want to do at the end of the day and an 8 hour shift is play big team battle or some casual shit. 2. The other type of people are the guys that have also been playing Halo for 20 years and are fucking demons. Infinite has a brutal skill based matchmaking and most of the time you're going to have type 1 as your teammate and type 2 on the enemy team. This is a fucking nightmare and the reason (among many) why you cant play more than 5 games without wanting to uninstall it. It's definitely not a welcoming experience for new players Not to mention that both types of Halo players hate the idea of a battle royale. They want innovation but they are not willing to accept it.
" most of the time you're going to have type 1 as your teammate and type 2 on the enemy team" That is statistically practically impossible. If you are an above average player (or "good" player), your team has at most the chance of getting 3 bad players, while the enemy team has the chance of getting 4 bad players. You aren't as good as you think you are, if what I quoted above is truly what you experience in the game, or any matchmade game, for that matter. If you are better than the average player in your skill bracket, you go up in rank. It really is that simple.
I’ve became so apathetic with entertainment. Star Wars, Halo, Assassins Creed and Battlefield, all my favorite franchises, just keeps regressing. With Halo I’m tired of giving the “new 343” the benefit of the doubt when they can’t even fix simple bugs but yet want to charge $30-50 skins. Not to mention 343 doesn’t want to pay community map makers, the people who actually publish content for multiplayer. And us infinite players aren’t supposed to expect a new game or infinite content until 2026? That doesn’t jive. If 343 drops another miss then I truly believe Halo will die. Certain affinity is our last bastion of hope to steer the development of Halo 7 correctly. No excuses with making Halo 7 in unreal engine.

Disagree with some of its creative and gameplay decisions, but Halo 4 was a finished, polished, complete Halo experience at launch. Which is why it's even more baffling they couldn't do that with 5 or Infinite.
Halo 4 was definitely an underrated game in my opinion. The forerunners/Prometheans were a less fun opponent than the covenant to be sure, but the story was actually quite good and I played the shit out of that multiplayer

I remember finding a quote form somebody at 343 in an interview. They were asked why Halo 5 was pivoting the main character from Chief to Locke. Their response was that they thought that Chief was a bland character that nobody cared for, so they wanted to introduce a new character that actually has character traits to latch on to. My mind was blown. I have no idea how you run an IP and you are that insanely disconnected from the people that play your game. Imagine if George Lucas said "Yeah so I realized nobody cared about darth vader in my movies". Master chief was *the* gaming icon. Asmons takes on old Halo gameplay are wrong. If you go back, they still play great and can easily be done today, assuming you had competent people making it. People claim Halo was outdated and needed to change are just wrong. Halo was competing with COD at its prime and doing great until Halo 4, and it's all been downhill from there. Even now, the argument is still bunk. COD today still has the fundamental gameplay flow it did back in mw2/Black Ops days, and it's still doing great, yet Halo couldn't do the same? That's wrong. Sprint is bad for Halo because it fundamentally breaks its map design and gameplay flow. Anyone who also says Halo was slow is wrong. What does slow even mean? Your speed is designed for the gameplay mechanics and maps you're in, so there's nothing to compare it to except other games, and not every game needs to be a doom style, fast-paced shooter. People only think it's slow because the console fov was low.
Halo started to go downhill during Halo Reach actually, that’s when MLG and the comp scene took a huge nosedive. And it just got worse from there with every subsequent release. The difference with comparing it to CoD is that CoD gets a new game every 12/18 months and this keeps it fresh, Halo grows stale because we’re waiting years until the next game releases.
@@I-am-Ranb0 Even though the competitive scene suffered, Reach was still incredibly popular and maintained a high player count. That makes no sense. If anything, that would make COD grow stale faster because it's the same every year. But it didn't. The simple fact is that the gameplay for both COD and Halo was good. COD was going in the wrong direction until MW remake, and Halo has been going downhill since 4.
Incorrect. The versions you play now are not the versions that were released originally. The code is different. The environment is different. The community is different. Hell, the graphics are different (often broken). The very foundation of your argument is already wrong.

The worst thing imo is that Microsoft HAD to close the Hi-Fi Rush studio but keeps 343 alive regardless of their repeated failures. We lost the chance to have a Hifi2, but will get remakes of the 1st 3 halo games *again*
We never got remakes of the first 3 games. We get remasters of Halo 1 and Halo 2. It was purely a graphic remake, they added or remade nothing. And Halo 3 was never touched.

Quite the opposite, They look down and delusionally think that they would be taller standing by themselves, they jump off the shoulders and plummet to their inevitable crush
The truth of the matter is that we were never supposed to get more halo after 3, but Microsoft wouldn't let it die. Without Bungie, without the original developers and designers, you don't have Halo. Halo 4 5 and Infinite aren't halo games, they're halo esports extentions with a campaign tacked on
@@Jet-ij9zc ODST was planned while halo 3 was being created because they always wanted to do a game where you don't play the super soilder (which they then joke about because pretty much everything you did as an odst was the same as a spartan) Reach on the other hand bungie was forced to make because microsoft demanded one more halo game before they left to work on destiny. Microsoft has never had any passion for the gaming industry. They saw it was the biggest industry on the planet for making money and wanted in. Their first attempt to get into the business was to buy Nintendo...and Nintendo laughed in their faces. Their second plan was to have some other company make them a system, that failed...plan three was they made a system themselves, which was the Xbox.
Halo 4 wasn't a flop. It had a mixed reception but there were plenty of people who liked it, it made a profit, and it had an active community for years. Halo 5 also made an even bigger profit than Halo 4 even though it went on to be hated. Halo 6's gameplay was praised upon release and also made a profit despite immediately losing most of its player-base due to a lack of map diversity, game-modes, forge world, community support, etc. That's the cause of uncertainty - they know people will still buy their games regardless but they don't know how many of those players they will actually retain. Microsoft isn't going to wipe out 343 because 343 still continues to make them money despite everything, and there's no guarantee whoever they replace them with will be better. All the studios and talent that have proven track records with working on shooters are working for other franchises.
@@Former_Halo_Fan Halo 4 was player base and retention wise a flop. Halo 5 did only as good as 4 and coasted on some lootboxes while the player base dwindled, slowing profits. The Gravemind was defeated in Halo 3, but not the Flood as a whole. Edit: Plus they are able to form into beings able to literally altar time and space, so they're kind of just too OP TO die.

@@lct23 MCC was a shitstorm for YEARS. I've tried playing the game for years on end after its release. The matchmaking was terrible for a VERY long time. The game was also very prone to crashing, and simply joining a co-op session for campaign was, and for a long time remained, a pain in the a** It's absolutely astounding how hard they fumbled MCC, where the only things they had to do was to port 4 games into a single one and add menus to make it work. (And they also lazily added online co-op for H1 and H2, I suppose)
When I first saw headlines about the 343 announcement today I thought 343 was going to tone down pretending to be the rightful heirs to the legacy of one of the masterpieces of my childhood. Psych.
Nobody needs more Battle Royal, and personally, I hate that mode. The problems started when they decided to remove the local coop which made the Bungie games before so great.
Bungie already had the cake baked when 343 took over. All they had to do was put frosting on it. All they had to do was light the candles and they burned the whole thing to the ground
Giving Halo a Battle Royale is such a fucking L take. The whole BR fad got boring so quick in the 2010's, enough of that shit! To me, there's only 5 Halo games: • Halo: Combat Evolved. • Halo 2. • Halo 3. • Halo 3: ODST. • Halo Reach. Nothing else, not even Halo Wars. But if we want more Halo, they should of gone the path of DOOM. • Retcon all of the 343 bullshit. • Start back up at the end of Halo 3, where it's just Chief & Cortana again. • *_DON'T_* make Cortana go insane or evil. • *_DON'T_* have characters treat Chief like shit. • *_DON'T_* have dual narrative perspective campaigns again. • *_DON'T_* focus on characters that aren't Chief & Cortana. It's that fucking simple! Just make up another set of alien race(s), have another diabolical plot that threatens the universe, and it's only up to the teamwork of Chief & Cortana that can put a stop to it, have a plot twist, defeat the bad guy(s), win the game. There ya go, a run of the mill battle of attrition Halo game! It's generic as all hell, but it's better than anything 343 made. Give Halo to Id.
This sounds boring as hell and would never hold up in 2024. And I say that as a Halo fan. Weak narrative pieces do NOT translate well in this generation. And when games get scored low, they get less people buying them, and less people buying them means what...? Less funds for building the next game.
When they post their L's and are proud of it, even bigger L. Society is fucked.

Master Chief isn't the main charcter, but he is our eyes. The main character is the UNSC and humanity as a whole.

Sure, but they can't even get down the basics that made Halo good in the first place.
Very well said. All the arguments for "modern mechanics" are pretty well debunked when you consider the success of Counter-Strike.
CSGO success is not because of that. It has more to do with it being Free to Play from the same company that owns the store, also organizing Tournaments with massive payoffs yearly or even more often.

The biggest problem is that there are only two types of Halo players:
It's definitely not a welcoming experience for new players
Not to mention that both types of Halo players hate the idea of a battle royale. They want innovation but they are not willing to accept it.
" most of the time you're going to have type 1 as your teammate and type 2 on the enemy team"
That is statistically practically impossible.
@Dennis19901 most of my teammates are trash, i'm not going to spend my free time trying to help others win games, that's why i din't play it anymore
I’ve became so apathetic with entertainment. Star Wars, Halo, Assassins Creed and Battlefield, all my favorite franchises, just keeps regressing.

Asmon shocked Infinite didn’t release with a BR, it didn’t even release with TEAM SLAYER! Like what in the hell were they thinking?
I don't think halo needed to release with a br, people still love arena shooters, and competitively they are still thriving, cod etc. Br's are a phase and arena shooters are tried and true successes.
Preach my man
Halo started to go downhill during Halo Reach actually, that’s when MLG and the comp scene took a huge nosedive.
Walking speed in the old halo games were probably as fast some run speeds in cod or at least close to it
Incorrect. The versions you play now are not the versions that were released originally. The code is different. The environment is different. The community is different. Hell, the graphics are different (often broken). The very foundation of your argument is already wrong.

Studio should've been wiped after halo 5 but for some reason we're still here waiting to see what they do next??? Are you fucking joking???

People have to come off the nostalgia horse to a degree and look beyond just what made Halo great to you at the TIME. Those core elements can still be there but it takes more for a game like Halo to stand out in today's market.
@@Oni-Di You contributed nothing of value to counter the topic, so I guess you're boring as well.
@@Mecks089 That's because I wasn't entirely disagreeing with you. The core elements should still be there but to break it down to something so simple would not fly by todays gaming standards. That contributes a lot without having to say too much. I don't need to explain every possible story beat to get my point across. Stop being so bitter, get your head out of your ass. Halo's old format ALONE is NOT the way to go.
