In ZvZ it's not crazy at all. The scouting information is always worth the small (in my case) chance of losing the overlord. There's a couple reasons or situations that make it safe: 1. If your first 2 overlords cross the map and also see your opponent made 2 overlords at about the same time, that means your opponent's pool also isn't done yet, so it's impossible for them to have a queen just like you don't have one yet. 2. If your overlord arrives and the opponent's hatchery isn't done yet like in this game, it means they went for some kind of pool first build. Contrary to what you might think, sometimes I'll dive the overlord into the main a little bit specifically to see if there's queen. Why? If I go into the main and a queen immediately starts attacking me, it means they're doing the scarlette/dumbass/fake expo build which is super useful knowledge to have. It means you're already ahead on econ and just need to make nonstop ling/bane/queen/spine and probably a wall to survive. It's impossible to have a similar economy to someone going standard hatch first when you made a pool and a queen early. The only way you can have a pool and a queen and have a similarly-timed hatch is by letting your larva cap out for a long time. In this case I didn't dive the overlord because the hatch was only about half done, so it was clearly a pool first build and not a gimmicky fake hatch that would be further ahead. 3. Queens are SLOW off screep. If a queen commits to killing your overlord, it takes constant stutter stepping micro for a long time to get the kill, which still might not happen because overlords can sometimes use the terrain to escape the attack. Even in the worst case scenario where they kill your overlord, usually the queen has been off creep for so long that it's now skipping an inject. I'd much rather lose and overlord and have 4 more larva to work with than my opponent. 4. I have good minimap vision so I'm good at pulling overlords away as soon as I see the queen coming out :)
