I think age of allowable cast depends on how close to current meta versus how crazy the match was. If the match is absolute insanity then even years later is fine because rule of cool.

That's fair. I would generally say 1 month after a patch and it starts becoming outdated... however there are some old classics like Idra vs Maru when Idra rage quit in 2010 or 2011 that I would still be willing to see as a "time-warp special" or something.

And something to contemplate on: If the game isn`t patched anymore, does that mean games don`t really get outdated?

Zerg isn't too strong, but watching Serral sure doesn't make it feel that way.
When zerg is played near perfect, my god it looks by far the best race, just spamming and over running your enemy

Dude, the amount of precision, micro, macro, multitasking whole map, multitasking zerg tiny variety of units, updating countering army constantly like Serral, if there’s a Terrans Serral, Protoss’s Serral, Zerg wouldnt come out of the water.
in that final fight, Serral moved the infestor to the bottom of the ramp, then feigned an attack with the corruptors to pull the ghosts into neural range *then* committed to the final attack.

The last time I played an RTS it was Age of Empires 4, and not the remaster.
I play a ranked game of sc2 maybe one time every 6 months. I play a lot of custom campaignes (i am a big giant grand games fan) and some coop missions.

I agree with several of the commenters about "if the game is cool enough, it's always castable" but outside of that I'd say anything within the last couple weeks or within the current balance patch & map pool. Half of the viewers probably don't keep up with SC2 via any other method so it's not a big deal to have some older games, and even then, who's gonna complain about another Lowko video?

19:37-19:44 It always amazes me how Serral manages to get the right Ghost to takeover with the Infestor. That one Ghost was perfectly trailing behind the rest of the Ghost squadron, like he was running late for work, because he wanted to sleep in a couple more minutes.
Whenever i watch top level Zerg, especially Serral, its insane to me how quickly they switch from early game to late midgame or even lategame units, like we see ONLY zerglings, a few banes and queens for half the game and then at 14:50 BAM! Ultras in the third, vipers yoinking air units, corruptors attacking medevacs.
Zerg isn't OP- Serral is. Blizzard's next balance patch needs to include random packet loss for whatever device he plays from. That's the only way to fix the game balance.

@@quinn3745 Maru has made over 1mil as well, very close to the same amount as Rogue and he plays terran. It's the players not the race lol if you look at money made across all tournaments it's actually quite close for all three races.

That's what 510 AVERAGE apm does to a person I guess. Last few times I had like, 50 ish.
I wonder why it feels like banes get less attention from Serral and other top zergs. Very often we can see clumps of them being wiped out by Siege Tank targetfire or a lucky mine. Always felt that pre-spreading them out a bit was useful, and these guys certainly have APM and accuracy to do this mid-combat. Maybe it's not worth it because they will clump up during a combat regardless?
@@KidoKoin I think that maybe the banes are too slow, and will just get blown up even with splits. Also splitting them makes them even slower since they aren't taking the most direct path.

It’s not about “balance”. Serral just picked the race that fights in the nude, signaling to his opponent that he knows no fear.
So Serral should play in the nude to be on brand

I love watching Serral replays. Watching him vs. any other zerg player really does feel like a night and day difference.
Rule of cool wins every time. Even 2v2 games where something crazy happens, like one guy quits at the start so their ally takes up the mantle and plays only their ally's units. (I won a ZP v TT this way back in WoL days)
It's not zerg too strong, please nerf; it's Serral too strong, please nerf.

Actually, all this talk of old game casts made me think, Lowko, would you make a series where you specifically cast old games? If that was possible, I'm not sure if it is, but, I think that would make for an interesting series that gives more perspective on how the game has changed. Just like once in a couple of weeks maybe casting several years old sc2 matches.
I think it is more about content of the game than the age. I personally would love to see any game that has Serral, Reynor, Babymarine, Dark, MaxPax, or Harstem be casted, especially any time Serral or Reynor play something on the smaller scale that I am likely to miss due to my casual following of SC2. Plus, I love you casting Harstem because who doesn't love you two Dutch SC2 players casting and/or judging each other's games?

It is lucky there was not a scan happening, it is lucky the missile turret did not finnish 5s sooner, it was lucky the ghost had enough energy, that the ghosts were not split by default, that they were in range of the EMP, that terran did not make a single raven to follow with ghosts........ you could say it was a missplay by the terran, but I want to believe a profesional can keep a group of 20 units under detection at all times

I can and will happily watch games that are over a decade old if the caster is knowledgeable enough to tell me why it was such a giant of its time, and passionate enough to recapture that moment in time.

I have never played this game, but I enjoy these casts, and they can be as old as the game is. I find Serral's games amazing pieces of art sometimes. To me, it's hard to fathom how ranged units are not absolutely dominant. They have unlimited ammo... The Serral Swarm is fantastic... Also, Lowko, you are one of the better commentators to keep the attention on the game. Thanks for these uploads!

I think the age of allowable cast doesn’t really matter cause you do a really good job on explaining the previous meta and current meta. Love your cast. Keep up the good work!

Zerg needs a buff. Only Serral can make it work. I mean, 2, 3 Terrans all-ins with a late third and STILL able to get to late game. Fucking hell.

I think the shelf life of this game is about 18 months.
Ghosts are so broken that the only way to really deal with ghosts is to use "drumroll" enemy ghosts.
I used the ghosts to destroy the ghosts..
Love to watch Maru nuke his own army or nuke the opponent's entire army anytime, even years later! Love to see their reactions too 😂
I mean sometimes i go back and watch old championships. But mostly i like to watch so fresh gameplay to see if the players are on theyr a game atm:)
I think there is a few cases foe old games.
If the meta, patch and map pool are the same. It doesn't matter if it is 3 days or 3 months old. Like you said I couldn't have told you if this is from yesterday or a few months back. If it is a good game it deserves to be shown.
Now if the game is on a different map pool and patch I'd say it can also be cast sometimes. Especially if it is really old. Start of lotv or hos or even wol (though I think there is issues with old replays.

I think you should create a pool of random great games from the last 10+ years, and then choose one randomly and cast it blind without know what year it was from. Could be fun watching you guess when it was from and then comment on the strategy, etc.

If it is more then 1.5-2 years old, but sometimes if there's an awesome older game that could be a fresh reminder of what SC2 was like back in the day 😅
When I still played SC2, I also always chose the pink color.
since we live in a world with essential old maps tournaments or sometimes look back at slightly old metas whenever, i think in the end it doesnt matter as long as we get a fun match
no matter what patch or matchup, watching pro level games is always refreshing
That last point is accurate. People only complain about balance when it’s Serral Reynor or Rouge
If it’s a Serral replay it doesn’t matter how long ago it was from bad long as you mention when it was from.
Dude, Pig sometimes casts Florencio games that have machine gun cyclones and infested terrans. A game is NEVER uncastable
Serial just makes zerg look easy but I know from experience that it's probably the hardest 😅 but yeah zerg in the right hands is (OP)overwhelming power. Also I'm fine with any replay as long as it's in the current patch and map pool. I've enjoyed all of your starcraft content since about two years back. keep up the great casting and coaching as I adore it.
I swear there should be a late game upgrade for Zerg to increase population limit to 230 or 250. Make it cost 1000 minerals 1000 gas. Terran should have a similar ultimate upgrade that allows for command centers to move and attack like a massive gundam. Protoss should have an ultimate upgrade that allows for ground units and air units to be warped in ANYWHERE.
The 200 limit is more of a performance thing.
Your casting is good, so casting a game from any time period of the life of the game would be enjoyable.
faclonpaladin casts games from 1999 and I still watch them.

im new to star craft and i like your content alot, the one thing i felt missing and had to prospect a lot was a "best star craft II games of all time" list or playlist. felt like a waste of good title for a youtube video. the last made was "top10 best star craft 2 games of all time" and it had 8 years old

Hey lowko I have a question as zerg when you start to make a structure your supply drops untill it's made, and if you cancelled it goes right back up right (I have not played on a wile) so if you have enough larva and bank you could have drones make say a structure, then make army use up larva then cancel the drones then be over supply right? Or am I wrong I have been thinking about this for years
Yea you 100% can do this and is a fairly common trick people use esp for early game cheese
these games of sc2 make me want to play it again even though i’m a gold league hero
I like new games because I like watching the evolution of the meta, but as long as you're casting recent games, and letting us know when a game is older, I see no problem with that.

I don't even know how all the tournaments work or what/when they are, I just want to watch some great SC2. Even if you did something like a "Lowko's Picks" playlist or title category to separate them for those who don't care to watch older games - but I'm sure there are others that would probably watch them all as well.
