I don’t understand why so many people think “horror” and “scary” are synonymous with each other. True “horror” movies are meant to be “psychologically disturbing”, which is what Eggers’ movies are. The advent of slasher movies with their gore and jump scares completely bastardized what “horror” movies are supposed to be
I agree- “Nosferatu” was quality horror for sure but I actually enjoy the original silent version more. Eggers’ films are high quality production but a little soulless or impersonal to me such that I don’t feel any emotion or identification with any of his characters. The scripts are good and action and direction superb but they still leave me cold in the end. Maybe that’s intentional or maybe it’s just my interpretation but I’d likely see another of his films again when they appear without hesitation. I prefer his kind of horror to gross out gratuitous violence and gore. Good storytelling is enough whether it has an emotional impact on me or not. But I do enjoy movies that stir up feelings when they do simply to experience them or to deepen and enrich my film experience.
@pontius2000 I understand what he was going for. I immediately thought of Vlad the Impaler when I saw it. Idk why you type the reason it's there, I get it. It's just jarring and hard to take seriously. Also, his design I found disappointing. The comb over, he looked, well, not scary. Also, his eyes were too normal looking, he just wasn't very intimidating when you see him in full. Of course that's my opinion

Thanks! I’m watching the original now and saw a documentary about it too that’s worth watching on Amazon
I thought the movie was strong but wasnt a fan of every spin eggers put on it. Either way, great review though!
The mustache was kinda distracting...
@@tonydelia9998 the fact though is that Romanian men of that era had that same mustache. So if you’re looking for accuracy, Eggers nailed it
