The middle section is about how their short lives are just all endless toil and misery. *The swedish equivalent of Santa, the "Tomte" is based more on old folklore of gnomes. Back in the day people believed that tomtar/gnomes would help people out from the shadows, making sure the farm animals are ok and generally keeping an eye out for people. Every farm had it's own tomte watching over it. There's a tradition of leaving out rice porridge for the tomte on christmas as a showing of appreciation.
I think it's the most outgoing I've ever seen Bill! Love it! And the pickled herring! I grew up on Cola Peninsula, we had very similar dishes for New Year 😁

Aquavit aka Snapps is the only alcoholic drink I've had that never gets better the more drunk you get. It's just consistently difficult to enjoy. Had it many times at Cray Fish parties both here in London and in Stockholm.
