Nosferatu is the first movie I’ve ever saw in theaters on Christmas Day (also my bday). The artistry is phenomenal. Aesthetically it looks and feels authentic to the Victorian era. IMO Lilly Rose did a fantastic performance!! - the journey to Count was my favorite part. The visuals are mesmerizing
just watched today, and i actually have the oppisite "complaint" about how orlock was portrayed i felt like there were too many clear shots of him that made him feel too much like a man in makeup, i much prefered the blurred out of focus shots of him it added to the 'power' he had, and i did like the initial reveal scene with him in the coffin in his og castle when he stood because he looked so poweful and intimidating
One highlight to me was the shadows moving along the wall, an obvious reference to the 1922 film. It was scary then, and 102 years later, a simple trick, it still works. I thought this film was a brilliant interpretation of the Dracula story. The main weakness is it felt to me as if things were wrapped up a bit quickly -- the revelation that the blessing of the soil in the vampire's coffin would destroy his sanctuary became irrelevant, as instead Orloff simply succumped to his own lust.
I still don’t see what you mean about Bill Skarsgard, this was a complete transformation. Not sure what flourish he could have added to achieve what you mean. If anything I think what he gives this performance is what will lend itself to his future performances. Since IT, I think his brand has always been able to play ominous figures incredibly.
Robert Eggers' Nosferatu is a masterpiece, with Lily Rose Depp and Bill Skarsgård delivering captivating performances. The film's atmosphere and pacing are expertly crafted, making for a thrilling experience that earns a well-deserved 10 out of 10.
There may be some recency bias at play, as I JUST got out of a screening, but Egger's Nosferatu may well be the best version of the Dracula tale ever put to film! So beautifully and expertly crafted.. Hands down, my favorite film of the year! (I love the Christmas release date! It harkens back to the Victorian tradition of telling ghost stories around the fire at Christmas)
Nosferatu always has been the best movie adaptation of Dracula. And until the UK or the US finally fund a faithful adaptation of the novel as movie or series that won't change. So Nosferatu (1922 and 2024) it is, for now.
You nailed my problem with the entire movie...the character of Orlak doesn't bring anything remotely new to the table and conceptually he just doesn't make an impression. Everything else about the movie is great, but the main villain, to me, leaves a lot to be desired and that's a no-no when it comes to these types of movies.
Exactly like why Ellen? Yes, she called out to the spiritual world but why this deep infatuation to point of the Count forgetting the sun was coming up.
I saw it this morning on Christmas Day & was so moved, I teared up by the end. Eggers is just a legend. I loved this movie, for it made my gothic horror heart very happy.
You must've watched something else because that movie 🎬 was absolutely terrible. I would strongly suggest for people to rewatch a true masterpiece: Bram Stokers Dracula. 🤓

I've watched thousands of horror and horror films, and Robert Eggers' Nosferatu I can guarantee and swear, for the atmosphere of death, rotten eroticism, bloodthirstiness, Absolutely epic, scary, terrifying, truly perfect and worthy retelling or remake, which surpasses any previous films of the character and the best gothic horror film in history. Great Work like Masterpiece The Magnum Opus as Magnanimous rare jewelry worthy of countless Oscar statuettes. Period and I have said yes...
@@evanjman Exactly, and knowing Eggars and his commitment to historical accuracy, he surely left the mustache to stay true to how a Transylvanian nobleman would’ve looked. Great movie, though, and was time well spent on Christmas Eve!

I caught a Christmas matinee. So much of the film was dark, misty, and flat that sometimes I had trouble telling which male character was which in groups of three or more. It was obvious the director chose that style. The sets and town and castle are amazing. The film moved at a deliberate and even pace. There were no real action sequences. Even Thomas, racing the sun back to his house at the end, wasn't really an action sequence. This film felt more like a drama, set in a horror frame. The frame reminds us that there are some horror aspects to the tale. But it still feels more like a drama than a horror movie.
Saw it Xmas day with Dolby Atmos. I thought Orlock was fine. I'm sure in stylized teen-girl goth whatever, a vampire is some sort of seductive and worldly, but as the character says "I am an appetite." He is so deep into evil, he has been so disfigured by evil and desire, that you are not at all surprised by what happens. I think Skarsgard did very well to avoid trying to add some sort of "This is the stuff weird teens, um, take matters in to their own hands imagining" elements but just let Orlock be the way evil is...
Agree with all of your points with the movie. Although VERY well done, Orlok didn't really make an impression other than his first appearance in the film and the film felt a bit rushed after Orlok reaches Germany. Strong 8/10 for me.
I really appreciated this movie for the craft that went into making it, but one of the things that I really like about the Dracula story was the love between Drac and his reincarnated wife. In the Nosferatu version of the story, all the love is gone. The gruesome list is not the same to me. So while I did like this movie, it wasn't my favorite version of the Drac story.
If you were taken by all the rats, the 1979 nosferatu has the most extreme/ridiculous quantity of real rats I’ve ever seen. It’s comical how many there are, literal seas of them across the floor

Just watched it. I am a big bram stoker fan and have read + watched the 90s moves more times than I can count. I did not realise that nosferatu was the same story but different place. In that I was extremely let down. Beautifully shot, wonderfully acted by most in the movie but dear god can we more away from realtors bring the vampire doom and the van hellsing character? We could choose any form of story telling and it’s just bram again. Again I did not realise that Nosferatu was the German retailing of the story
How are you a big Bram Stoker fan, having watched all the movies more times than you can count, yet you know nothing about Nosferatu and the fact that it was created due to the fact that Bram Stoker’s estate wouldn’t allow rights to German filmmakers to make Dracula.
I loved the movie it was great. I just think the original Orlock was much scarier looking. Stick a thick mustache on a monster and he's not scary to me anymore.
Count Orlok isn't the first. He mentioned fathers before him and a royal bloodline. He also had a missing chunk of skin from his chest like he was bitten a long time ago. And I'm sorry but it was too much wheezing for me 😂 Orlok needs his inhaler. Also where were the 3 vampire witches that seduced Thomas and kept him at the castle? In this one, there was no reason for Thomas to be held captive. Idk Orlok just doesn't feel like Dracula even though some themes were similar.
*If* the good 'samaritan,' non believer🤨 home is within the same zone, town...then keeping her in the home *or* throwing her out into the streets, will make no difference to *Evil descending upon it - *but*, the added change to that narrative could spark Jack the Ripper vibes perhaps😅☺
