Fantastic video! Thank you Del and Penny! I would like to pass on to you an old machinist trick, to get round holes through thin sheet metal: Fold up a patch of flannel cloth about three 0r four layers thick, place this patch of cloth between the drill point and the tin, then drill through. As a two fluted drill will render a hole, it will not be round. Utilizing the cloth somehow makes it a very round and uniform hole! Test me? You will be surprised!

you made me a believer on canned paint. I always thought you really need the air compressor set etc. what you do is great with that paint. I have learned a lot from you. from removing bolts to cutting sheet metal. a complete package. nice.

I painted the chrome headlight ring black on my bike about 3 years ago, all I did then was clean it(steel wool and wd40 then cleaned it with thinners) and put satin black paint straight on it and it still looks good.
Thank you Sir, I appreciate that feedback, it's gonna be a fun experiment, I think initially on just two pieces so as not to waste paint, but if it works, then I won't be scuffing it up again... it works in theory because clear lacquer over mirror polished ally doens't flake off, so time for a little experiment!... appreciate your insight, cheers, Del

When you said that you'd be replacing the wheels with spoked ones, I was a bit disappointed to hear that W&W would be building them. I don't think we've seen you lace and true up a spoked wheel yet, have we? Very touching about Penny at the end...almost brought a tear to my eye! :)
Hi buddy, thank you so much for that kind faith, but you trust me more than I do... at least on this bike I wouldn't trust myself to build the wheels, this bike is a 1/4 ton and it's gonna be ridden 'with purpose' lol so I want them right and I want them safe, but for what it's worth, I've already pledged that I'm gonna dive in to a kaff build next... the guys at W&W Cycles don't only sell pre-built wheels, but also every component I would need, so am looking forward to getting all of the doings and having a go at wheel building for the next project, but maybe on a lighter bike... thank you again, Happy New Year, Del

The guys at WAG are great, best place for Mikuni jets too. Stick a HS42 or 45 on her with an external breather ;) and some lollipops in the slip ons. Ya know to go with the those shocks you could chuck some progressive springs in the front, change the seals and set just the right preload + SAG for what you wanna do, because if you've got the original springs .... You can put a zip tie round the fork tube with the wheels on, sit on it for a quick check, and if she sags about 5 cm the springs are knackered. If dropping the rear and front you shouldn't have problems with stability and you can tune the suspension to lower the front for quicker turn in if that's what you want by dropping the tubes in the yokes a bit. Less preload go with thicker oil, more preload thinner oil. Check the ground clearance of the rails with someone about the same weight sittin on her, about 1 cm higher at the front works well, lower at the front is asking for trouble imo, much lower at the back and she'll be more of a cruiser. First time you take her out do some wobbly tests starting from about 40 mph with a quick nudge of the bars and the bike should straighten up right away without any tank slapper tendencies, 50 mph repeat test and again in 10 mph steps until you're going as fast as you're ever gonna or she starts shakin her ass ;)
Hi Mac, working on the wheels first, gonna drop down to a 16 on the front, which will give it a FatBob vibe... sadly you can't lower the front by lifting the tubes, as the Wide Glide's top yoke has bolt through caps, they're fixed where they are... but I shouldn't need to lower the front at all, as the rear shocks are 15mm lower than stock, so roughly 3/4" and a 16" front rim with a 130/90 tyre, will only actually lower the front ride height by 1/4"... I've done this by comparing the existing wheels and tyres, I stuck the rear wheel in the front, it fits straight in, and as I said, it's just 3/4" lower, I guess cos the tyre's so chunky, so it should give me level ride height.... you're right about the oil being a great way to alter the damping... Also, Arlen Ness do some tuned damper rods with adjustable blank offs on some of the holes, so you can adjust the damping... not externally, which is a shame, but with a little work you can get them right! And I like your ride and tank slapper test, that sounds like my way of doing things mate lol........
I intend to rag the p1ss out of it everywhere anyway, so it will spend most of it's life on the ragged edge, and as it will only be 3/4" lower, I sholdn't be grinding too many hard parts... cheers buddy, thanks for your insight, all the best, Del
