Idk it just feels so real, he's truly experiencing the game
You are genuinely THE best UA-camr to watch play scary games; I can hear the sweat sliding down your forehead and the intense fear in your voice. The best part is that none of it is for show and you're so immersed in the game that we become that much more immersed as well. Legitimate jump scares and your edits are so well done I'm not surprised they are demanded. Keep it coming, but please also stay relaxed and don't die of a heart attack. :P
Doubling down on this, I've watched at least four different UA-camrs play this game and none fully compare to the way you can feel the genuine fear in his voice. It makes it all the funnier when you realize that, yeah; most of us still end up getting attached to this terrifying creature.

That...was a loaf of bread. I took a loaf of bread out of the fridge and briefly squished it into the microphone during editing. Additionally 2:31 was a rubber glove on a ceramic dinner plate. And 4:34 was a bottle of vodka touching a bottle of white wine. There are sound effects in game for a lot of these things, sure. But sometimes I didn't hit the thing hard enough.
13:42 I've been gaming for 40+ years but facing Jeff in VR is by far the most scary and immersive gaming experience I have ever had. Your reaction was great!
Unrelated, but I'm back and because of how much I watched Jeff in UA-cam videos and how I constantly talked to myself LOUDLY to reassure myself that it's not real, it wasn't that scary. Especially because it's all tension and no jumpscares. (like, no suddenly running towards me and killing me like in FNAF)
God this section of the game is the pinnacle of VR horror, every part just gives you dread. Every bottle you see in a slightly suspicious position, everything that supposed to make noise now becomes your second worst nightmare, the realization that you have to get close to or having to release Jeff in order to get through the game. It was perfect.
I saw this upload yesterday and I went okay I’ll play half life alyx and complete the Jeff part first before watching Womble’s video. Why is everybody so scared of Jeff? I seriously don’t understand. His design isn’t scary at all. You can make a lot of noise and he doesn’t do anything. You can literally run around him in circles and nothing happens. He does not hear your footsteps. I genuinely don’t understand why people love this part so much.
For those of you who haven't played Half-Life: Alyx, I need y'all to understand that Womble's reactions through-out this whole chapter are NOT hammed up at all. In-fact, I have to compliment Womble for not trying to hide his fear (unlike other streamers that have played through this chapter, who try to undermine/joke their way through the horror instead of letting it seep in). Womble's experience of this chapter is 1-1 the EXACT same experience I personally had when playing this back in 2020... every moment, every reaction to the developers turning the game's most satisfying world interactions into putting yourself in danger, this video is a PERFECT illustration of how effective this single chapter is and how much of a tonal gut punch it is compared to the rest of the game. This whole chapter would lose soo much of it's punch if it wasn't in VR, and didn't immerse you in the world, in danger, right in the path of an oncoming alerted Jeff. Thank you Womble for this video ^^
The only thing Womble didn't do here was curse Valve out constantly like I was. Brilliantly evil bastards. (If you haven't played and have only seen the video, remember, in VR Jeff is taller than you.)
Agreed. Not only is this level a literal master class in horror design, but the VR is what takes it from "ooooh that was spooky" to "holy shit I think I need to take a break and go to the bathroom so I don't literally soil myself." This level would be spooky enough on a computer screen, but its those perfectly designed VR interactions (accidentally knocking over a bottle, having to cover your mouth in the spore clouds, the little clam things making noise when you reach near them) that immerse you, break down the reality barrier, and allow the horror to soak straight into your amygdala. This level gave me the same level of fight-or-flight response as nearly falling down the stairs IRL.
@@joshskier Adrenaline absolutely has that effect. Ask anyone who's seen combat. Once you get over the fear, the level of coordination can get ridiculous

That section was just beautifully choreographed, and looking back I can see all the tricks they use to lead you around in that sequence. When I played it I was just swearing under my breath the whole time and I absolutely loved it. You really cherish every little breather they give you, and everything added up to make the climax of locking Jeff up (and pressing him into submission) so rewarding. The chapter really brought me back to Amnesia, blindly stumbling through each hallway and door, trying to get out of the monsters path just for something on the other side to fuck you over and send you into a deeper panic as you MacGyver your way out. I just want more of it.

I’m not trying to be like acting on a high horse or anything but like, why is everybody scared of him? Like I’m genuinely asking. I didn’t find this scary at all. I just kept throwing vodkas at him and laughing. I was kind of disappointed to be honest a lot of people have told me over the years that it was one of if not the best part of the game and I just kind of thought it was fine and not scary.
To think I’ve been on UA-cam long enough to see Womble go from a guy in his late 20’s, dicking around with friends on CS:GO to a guy who is now in his mid to late 30’s playing VR games and having a somewhat chill time is difficult to believe.
As a long-time viewer, the older I get the more I quite like the fact we get less frequent uploads from Soviet. There is something about watching him go fishing, the occasional Lulu birthday update, and seeing him enjoy playing games with his friends that I find very comforting. It makes him more real that he does this less often because he has a life and hobbies outside of being a creator on here. He just seems like a nice man who deserves his success and reminds me of someone I know who I wish an equally happy and fulfilling life on.
That was honestly one of the best horror sequences I have ever seen. The mechanic with the rolling bottles that you can actually catch before they break blew my mind!
This is the first time I've seen you play in VR mostly cuz of timezones preventing me from watching your streams, but I absolutely LOVE the way you interact with the game. It might sound really silly but the way you handle the game in VR is almost like an actual action movie, from taunting to weird alien plant things to the way you simply open or close doors. It made the video far more immersive for me than a VR game video normally is.
I love how Womble can turn what is a horror-filled, high-stress situation into a top-tier comedy. 9:20 has the best inconvenience moment for when you ask the scenario a question and it answers you. But overall, every stressful reaction from Womble is accompanied by an endlessly entertaining sound, comment, and moment.
Valve is incredibly good at doing those inconvenience moments to add to the stress. In this section alone I especially liked how they had the speaker in the freezer make noise, the barnacle put in a very inconvenient place to snatch your bottles, and headcrabs knocking over more glassware like a bunch of asshole cats. Little things that make a simple gimmick into a very believable stressful situation.
Half Life Alyx was the best game experience in the last few years. If all of you already have a gaming PC, buy a VR headset just for that. It is worth it.
Just played HL2 VR mod and its great too. Shows a few reasons why they did what they did for alyx(two handed guns suck in vr) but still totally playable. Though it also shows they made things a bit too restrictive for alyx, like ditching melee. Swatting manhacks with the crowbar in vr is glorious.
@@cutterjohn1921 it is, until one of those things gets above your head and you end up whacking your ceiling light with full force. I am still surprised I didnt shatter the thing.
@@sincitysinnermike Still the Flagship of what VR games can do. Can't wait for the next one. My Hope is Valve bites the bullet to create a market for themselves with VR games. Like a MASSIVE drop in price for the Steam VR to sth like 250$, with HL Alyx offered, and with the release of Half Life 3. Kind of Like the Orange Box, but for VR.
This is no joke the most immersive piece of gaming content I’ve seen in my life. Part of it is the amazing game, of course, but it’s also in no small part due to Womble being incredibly immersed himself, and the fantastic editing on top of it. I am blown away, 10/10
2 things. First, if you were wearing a respirator during this segment, there was no need to cover your mouth. Secondly, if you were wearing a hat. Larry would pay you a compliment and say "Nice Hat!".
I believe Womble did pick up a respirator/mask during this but I also remember it fell off for no reason sometimes lol. Maybe hands got funny when they were near his mouth.
God haven't played HL: Alyx since like October 2020 and forgot how well designed this level is, from bottle beiong everywhere you want and don't want, forcing you to be uncomfortably close to Jeff in the freezer and lift, truly one of the best and tense gaming experiences ever.
Ah yes, the point where HL:Alyx turned into a horror game. I remember watching the stream of this and it was just so fucking good. When Valve wants to, they can make a really good fucking game!
Fun fact: the voice actor for Russel is one of my favorite voice actors, his name is Rhys Darby, hes from New Zealand and he does the best companion voices. Also he was the npc tour guide in jumanji welcome to the jungle which is so fitting
Look, I'm going to level with you. I don't care when do you upload, I'm just happy if there is a new video. I don't care what do you play, as long as you are having fun. I don't mind if you don't like Dishonored - but that's no reason to call it a bad game. You deserve some of that yappin'.
I really appreciate these rare horror gaming videos from you. The variety of comedy and action with the occasional drop of sheer terror is a treat, and keeps it from going stale. It makes it that much more of an impact when you're shuffling through dark corridors and sharing the exhaustion from how panic inducing these try to be. Splendid video, now to go watch the rest of the series on the closest.
awesome video ! i remember when i did this part of the game it's soooo cool seeing you play it , kinda reasuring seeing i was not the only one panicking lol ! PLZ PLZ PLZ keep up the your work it's amazing and very high quality ! =)
You continue to not only hold the bar but raise it, the efforts and nuances of your editing is, as always, appreciated and inspiring. Thank you for your work, I always look forward to more.
Super cool to watch you actually play the game, and not try to joke through it. The point before the "DOOR" edit is true fear/problem assessment, and I appreciate that.
YESSSSSSSS I LOVE JEFF!!!!! I am SO happy to see you playing HL:A, especially the BEST BIT! Total work of art. All the situations it puts you in, how tightly they've scripted the series of events in a TOTALLY believable manner, within the physics of the game, it's just amazing. Such a well-crafted experience. Though one thing I don't see people talk about much is how KIND Jeff's section is. People very rarely die in it, and while that's partly because everyone is TERRIFIED of Jeff and plays as safely as they can, he's also.... kind of less challenging than he's made to feel. As Larry says, he's *predictable* , and also loud, and kinda slow. It's hard to lose track of him, especially when he's so easy to direct. His walk speed isn't *slow* but he doesn't spend most of his time moving around, standing in place for relatively long periods even when idle. There are plenty of safe spaces for you to go and relax in for a bit, and the game always clearly telegraphs when he shows up, often having a sound happen not far from you before you enter his territory, showing you that he's entering that space. And all this REALLY HELPS THE HORROR!!!! It means that breaking the tension with a death is really rare, and people rarely see how bad getting caught by him actually is (not very, there's not much of an animation, he just spits in your face and it's over).
First, this was fantastic to watch. Womble, you always do a phenomenal job of immersing viewers in whatever game you're playing, and your editing is absolutely perfect. That said: HOLY DICKS Valve did an incredible job with this game! I hadn't watched anyone else play it and I can't afford VR yet, so this was my first exposure to it and I am absolutely astonished with everything about it. The physics are incredible, the graphics look insane (I have to imagine that in VR it is mind-boggling), and it looks like the storytelling and world-building is great as well. I wasn't expecting to be gushing over a Valve game in a Womble comment section (especially considering the current state of CS2, Womble if you read this please ignore the barnacles and wait until CS2 is actually playable or you'll get depressed and never come back), but this caught me completely off guard. Can't remember the last time I was in awe of a game like this. Hope you enjoyed playing it (although I'm sure you had to restock your closet with some new underwear), I'm thinking I'll spend the next few hours watching vods if they're up, cause I certainly enjoyed this.
If you haven't played this game personally this doesn't look scary at all. It is ENTIRELY different story when you play it. This game is a 12/10 experience.
@@lettuceforlife4827 This gets said a lot, but to actually experience is actually so incredibly different. Excuse me Sir, but I need the whole playthrough on youtube! This was amazing to watch!
He just seems like a nice man who deserves his success and reminds me of someone I know who I wish an equally happy and fulfilling life on.
that’s so wholesome! and totally agree :)
Seconded. ❤
That was honestly one of the best horror sequences I have ever seen. The mechanic with the rolling bottles that you can actually catch before they break blew my mind!
0:45 UPLOAD WHEN?! FIX UPLOAD SCHEDULE! PLAY CSGO! yeah that’s pretty much half the twitch chat at any given moment
We would appreciate Part 11
@@THESILVERNARUTO And we already "appreciate" your "patience"! :)
@@samohanka probably one of the best communities ngl. It's good to be here
A video of this quality and length taking you 5.5 WEEKS is an insane testament to how good you've become at what you do.
11:30 That was the most clutch play I've ever seen Womble pull off.
When he clutches the boxes to peek over them safely done he tries to see the best path - shivers!!!
I'll never get over how good of a storyteller Womble is and mixed with his amazing editing style and humor just makes for pure entertainment!
Half Life Alyx was the best game experience in the last few years. If all of you already have a gaming PC, buy a VR headset just for that. It is worth it.
One of the first games that actually felt like a game and not a tech demo.
After what I just watched - no, thank you very much.
Womble's headshake after watching Jeff 6:01 eat the corpse in front of him, is why there needs to be more VR gameplay.
23:29 Sucks Soviet didn't approach Jeff's remains, there is some extra dialouge where Alyx laughs at Jeff would've liked to see his reaction to that.
Do you have to crush Jeff to proceed? Can you just activate the plug machinery while he's trapped?
@@doihavetobeg Pretty sure you can just walk away, you don't have to crush him.
@@doihavetobeg There's 2 steam achievements for it. 1 if you let Jeff live, another if you crush him. Either way lets you proceed if you walk away.
@@Mort221 So glad to hear.
He did react to it. Commented on how unusually morbid Alyx was (or something to that effect)
This is no joke the most immersive piece of gaming content I’ve seen in my life. Part of it is the amazing game, of course, but it’s also in no small part due to Womble being incredibly immersed himself, and the fantastic editing on top of it. I am blown away, 10/10
Amazing video as usual soviet!
I could watch edits of your slower paced, more immersive playthroughs for hours.
Brother is watching at 50x speed to know that 48 seconds after uploading 😂
Quick, someone do the (probably relatively simple) math to prove that this comment was made before they finished watching

This was the moment I knew VR was special. Half-Life Alyx and especially Jeff put me in a state of total immersion like nothing did before.
Thats precisely why they release so little, they got the cash to not throw everything out and only release what they actually deem good.
The BEST! But only when they *really* want to.
After the headcrab nest in chapter 5, I didn't know how they would top it. Jeff was the answer.
They also are a really little company.
It's a wonder how much money they make with so few people.
@@Unknown_Genius
They just have ups and downs when they choose to shine now and we rather wait in silence and get 10/10s but it's like they forget that
"I walk through the valley of the Shadow of Jeff"
"And he fears no Womble cause hes blind to it all"
Is that SoViet Wumble!?
Fix ur upload schedule!
Yeah, this is too much video! Is the Soviet overclocking?!
That's bad for the machinery. Somebody, Please, fix the Womble!
FIX UPLOAD SCHEDULE
Hehe refrence
You can't fix something that does not exist!
i cant unhear that voice
9:20 "Can you make any more noise right now?" - "EEERRRR!"
Don't let Womble's upload schedule distract you from how incredibly handsome he is!
(Oh god help me he has a gun)
A gun? You'll be fine then, just run in a perfectly straight line.
love the whispering and actually getting into the game
Fun fact: the voice actor for Russel is one of my favorite voice actors, his name is Rhys Darby, hes from New Zealand and he does the best companion voices. Also he was the npc tour guide in jumanji welcome to the jungle which is so fitting
This is some quality enjoyable content that i would have missed out on otherwise. Thank you Womble!
9:15 Elevator: Well I'm glad you asked
My favorite parts of Jeff:
(gleefully) "I DON'T LIKE THIS NOW. I'M NOT HAPPY. I'M NOT HAPPY NOW."
Perfect timing, got a chicken & mushroom pie in the oven with peppered chips, gonna be a good meal with this!
Womble narrative and gameplay made the game feel more immersive. Not many could do things like Womble. The way he show sympathy towards Jeff.
8:55 "Alyx, crank that souja boy!"
0:32 ....Womble.....explain yourself
Cant wait to see Soviet play Half Life 3 in 2124
Just in time for his next UA-cam upload!
damn on release?
TWO MORE WEEKS
The number of bottle catches is simply astounding. Favorite video so far!
Holy fuck I'm finally early to a Soviet Wimbledon video.
Chapter 1: *_MyNameIsJeff_*
I think that was the most effective horror sequence I have ever seen. Even Ravenholm wasn't that tense, since you can shoot the zombies.
Ive been going through your videos again last week and now this
Legitimately some of the best content I've seen for a very long time. Loved it.
OMFG the whole sequence at 9:20 im stressed just watching... cant imagine playing it lmfao
It's genuinely one of the most stressful situations in a game period, nevermind in VR. I came out of this part shaking both times I played it.
This was fucking amazing, I felt your terror and held my breath like it would actually do something. What an awesome ride, thank you.
It was nice having Advanced Warning of a Womble video upload…
One of the best videos I've seen in a while, great job Womble!!
Oh Womble you poor old man... Pleas watch your blood pressure or you might get yourself killed T_T
awesome video ! i remember when i did this part of the game it's soooo cool seeing you play it , kinda reasuring seeing i was not the only one panicking lol !
PLZ PLZ PLZ keep up the your work it's amazing and very high quality ! =)
1:20 "My name is JEff." (21 Jump Street (2012))
That was hands down best video I watched from you Soviet. Love it.
Womble and Jeff, the best of friends
You continue to not only hold the bar but raise it, the efforts and nuances of your editing is, as always, appreciated and inspiring. Thank you for your work, I always look forward to more.
The Immersion Guy comes back to immerse you once again.
Absolutely amazing work as always. God damn, you're good.
Jeff is the absolute pinnacle of valve and all game design. It is the greatest videogame level in history.
Super cool to watch you actually play the game, and not try to joke through it. The point before the "DOOR" edit is true fear/problem assessment, and I appreciate that.
The moment @sovietwomble betrays poor Jeff his loyal friend who follows him everywhere was so harsh
RIP Jeff
"My name JEFFFF"
Or
"Whoooimaboutmake a name for myself yea"
First, this was fantastic to watch. Womble, you always do a phenomenal job of immersing viewers in whatever game you're playing, and your editing is absolutely perfect. That said:
HOLY DICKS Valve did an incredible job with this game!
Dude I haven’t played it and I’m still breaking a sweat just watching, it’s gut renching in how terrifying it it’s lmao they killed it
It DOES look scary even just watching.
@@lettuceforlife4827 This gets said a lot, but to actually experience is actually so incredibly different. To be the one having to catch the falling bottles, to cover your mouth and experience the dread of realization of dealing with jeff. Its something to experience, and unfortunately, because you watched this video, it has been spoiled :(.
@@SamTuffman unfortunately I’m to chicken for games like this, it’s a better experience for me to watch it because I would honestly not even make it past the first part. I see where you’re coming from though, there’s nothing like going in blind and if I wasn’t to scared I definitely would prefer to.
It's always refreshing to watch your streams and videos dear sir. Nice to honestly see a more cautious approach to gaming, and taking actual time in figuring it all out. As opposed to rushing around and potentially missing content.❤

This is the best video in a while. Im glad people demanded it
Ah, yes. Soviet Womble+horror= evil shenanigans.
Two small fun things
1) In a previous chapter you can put on a gas mask for absolutely no reason. It's there for fun.
I had it on me and turns out you don't have to cover your mouth when you're wearing a gas mask.
2) If you successfully bring a bottle of Vodka with you Russell has a short delighted interaction with you about it
4:25 nice save
This. Smooth as fuck
Indeed. Quite an excellent save
Thank you so much for uploading this! It was seriously tense to watch.
6:12 Remind me of the Alien Isolation XD
Which has a VR mod imagine womble doing THAT. XD a whole drawer of underpants wet within a week.
Considering Womble's previous experience with that game I think he got PTSD flashbacks the moment he saw that.
So glad you decided to do this! I was at work listening to everything line a podcast while working when you played this so I didn’t really get to see it until now. Great work as always!
