As much as you mentioned Romário as a key Brazilian player signed by Nike in the past, I'd say their breakthrough endorsement deal in the country (and arguably in the rest of the world) during the 90s was that with Ronaldo Nazario. He was Nike's MJ for football.
Mid 2000s & early 2010s Robinho was that one flashy, charismatic player with flair & swagger Even Neymar said he looked up to Robinho growing up & gets his style from him
Neymar is a great player and a bit underrated due to being a player in the same time period as Ronaldo and Messi. But Neymar's talent must not be undermined. A very talented player in his own right.
Neymar is very talented. That no one even argues. But he never reached his peak and the predictions that experts and people had on him. Left Barca, in his prime age to join a club which plays in a much less competitive league, while still scoring less goals than many competitors on high competitive leagues, like EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A. He never won a World Cup, never won a Ballon D/or, which in the meantime was won even by Modric, and Griezmann was twice in the three best players on Ballon Dor list. His stats are pretty average FOR a player of his calibre on that league, and even Burak Yilmaz scored more at Lille, and he still didnt win a UCL with PSG. So once again, we arent doubting his talent, but he never fulfilled any expectations awaited from him.
@@armendvojvoda6289 his peak wasn’t at Barca btw, it was his first year at PSG. His G/A was insane, scored 28 goals in 30 games. He was also playing amazing, skills wise. Pretty sure he got injured though and never reached higher than that
We don’t know that yet, there has been a lot of young footballers who people think they are the next big thing and end up flopping, it’s really hard to say if they are the next two big things
Mbappe is a fucking World Cup golden boy, had multiple big time Champions League moments already (people forget his seasons at Monaco), 3rd top scorer in PSG history (not that big of a deal until you realize that's more than 100 goals for a 20 yr old) and we know he can lead a top team. He has NOTHING else to prove and he's barely 22 LMAO Haaland is barely 20 and already has many goal scoring records, can dribble really well, strong, fast, deadly positioning, a ~195cm demigod etc. Don't put Pato (always overrated, even without injuries), Bojan, Asensio on the same page as Mbappe and Haaland. These guys are much more accomplished and simplg far better. A better comparison would be Ronaldo (R9). They're all phenomenal.
The Nike boots being worn by Neymar in the past still has a lot of impact in the present and for the future. That's why they are leading the football market at the moment. They know how to market players and attract new ones.
Was so happy when I saw the number of views on this video, if anyone deserves it, it is the Atletic Interest. Btw, I also noticed that all of the most promising talents in the world of football right now are wearing Nike, but nowadays we can see that they still haven't secured a new deal with Marcus Rashford, whom You mentioned in the video. Puma are fighting hard to get him as they see his influence both on and off the pitch
@ first of all even you know this isn't happening for the first time....many woman have tried to sue money from footballers accusing them for rape or sexual harrasment..... Neymar also knows that all she wants is money.....so Neymar plays it intelligent and stopped co-operating with the company because he knows he wouldn't be able to do anything as in the sexual harrasment cases....it's always the females who takeover....
Nike are definitely planning for the future, they pretty much have a hold of all the best young talents in Sancho, Haaland, Mbappe etc, as well as the very young up and coming talents such as Harvey Elliot, Fati and Camavinga. This means 5-10 years down the line we may see the vast majority of top players wearing Nike boots and what has always been an oligopoly may look a lot more like a monopoly when it comes to football boot contracts (although of course it’s not as simple as that).
As a marketer who has done works for Nike, I know there are some other important factors: A major one is the risk of controversy. While players like Neymar may have huge brand lift potential, they are also controversial. This can be very interesting for challenger brands who have a large potential growth market. Your growth can just exceed your loses and giving your brand a bit of a "rough edge" can be cool to many. For Nike, as one of the leading brands, controversy is much more dangerous and needs to be approached with extreme caution. If you piss off 2% of your audience, that's a huge deal as they are already touching the ceiling of their potential brand awareness (as one of the most recognized brands in the world). For clear market leaders Nike, it makes much more sense to just focus on getting more brand touchpoints and enforce and maintain the current market share.

Great points and for all we know these sponsorship deals might not necessarily have significant impacts on company profitability so Nike is probably more willing to part with a few star names
This probably will end like Under Armour after signing Steph Curry, maybe not, but very big possibility that Puma will receive a lot of money, like UA with Steph Curry, and also to mention that he is already 3rd most popular player in the world, behind the 🐐 duo
When I played in junior team we had nike kit and shorts and I think it was so cool. Socks too, last boots I played was nike also. As a 11 year old I already knew and respected nike over any other, funny to think now a lot later.
“The great Nike Exodus” would have also been a fitting title. Great video as always! I have the creeping suspicion that voice from AE’s videos is one I’ve heard countless times on German television before. Am I mistaken or did I guess that right?
Orrrrr could it just be the fact that Neymar’s biggest market was his home country of Brazil, and Nike just left their business in the country selling their Brazilian branch to sports retailer Centauro. 🤷♂️
@@bneb3103 true, he is. But his strongest market is still Brazil by a lot. Just an example, of his 146M followers, 42M are from Brazil (almost half of the Instagram user base of the country). Also the number of ads he does in country is probably more than the promotions he does for all the rest of the world combined. Of course, those are not all encompassing data and don’t unequivocally “prove” the claim, but it seems pretty clear his biggest market is Brazil (which would make sense given his nationality). Besides that, the two movements (the Nike sale and Neymar moving to Puma) happened very close to each other, and I don’t think anybody believes Nike would just drop one of the top 3 most popular players in the world for nothing.
Nike literally hand over contracts to anybody. Now they have decides to give more lucrative contracts to top players while nothing to smaller grassroot players

Yeah, still some of the most professional content on youtube. Sometimes, I find myself equally interested in the quality of the video as with the content itself. Great work, as always.
Nice dp
That some next level editing 🔥🔥
Thank u🙏🏽🤩
@@FlemmoTV what??
Ronaldo’s influence and market value is crazy . No need for Neymar
Exactly if Ronaldo wanted to he could make his own competitor to Nike or Adidas
Neymar is a "brand" in decline, perhaps He got away with his Tax troubles and other legal and off-field problems and Nike became tired of him. Neymar is also a guy that is so used to change of shirts or brands if he receives a substantial amount of money.
this world cup will change your mind about Neymar, wait...
@@JoaoPedro-ii8gu Maybe next world cup?
@gabriel009t :( true
From that voice all I can think about is Zemo from Falcon and the winter soldier
probably because they’re both from germany😅
You mean Frederik Zoller
The editing and animation is just mind boggling wow!
Thank u🙏🏽🤩
this chanel is a time bomb, the edition is so good
I’ve not seen such good & creative edits on any other channel
I like how Stanford University is near LA when it's right below OU lol.
Dude I love your voice and you style of speaking. Keep up the great work!!!
Plot twist : Nike is the next Disney and has bought puma and adidas
your videos are so well researched...will reach 1 million subscribers
in no time
I don't understand how this channel is so underrated
To be honest, I wasn't interested in this type of video. It just auto-played.
But I'm glad it did! Awesome work! Awesome montage!
The editing of the video is dope. 👍🏻
You guys should make a video about the MMA sport business, I especially curious about how Reebok deal affect MMA sport
The big effect was the money fighters would make from sponsorships on there shorts or pre fight banners used when introducing fighters in the octagon
@@Wranglermonkey92 is the puma start to create the gloves or something for mma players? Or they just hanging his banner?
@@MichaelTiopan lol mma players
now its Venum deal
This editing is world class well done 🔥💯
Thank u🙏🏽🤩
The quality of this channel is outstanding
the editing is superb!
I'm astonished with your production quality! Keep it up ❤️
Don’t forget Neymar plays for psg who are with Nike he’s wearing there jersey and they probably had some inside info on him considering staying at psg
This comment deserves more likes for real! No one thought this...
@@Rumit.A it’s because we live in a world who refuses to use common sense
Dude hypervenoms were one of the best boots hand down a go to every time 👌🔥
Them and the Adidas Predators 🥶🥶
Fantastic video as always! Always interesting to see how major sports brands are developing and shaping the sports we love. Hope you have more track and field videos lined up : )
every time i come across these videos I have almost no interest in the actual topics but watch any ways because of the presentation. Its really a high quality video. happily subscribed after 3 videos
This was really good, direct, concise, no unnecessary drama, and when you did bring drama it was really funny (edit of Ney’s diving😁) this was really great to watch
Thank you!
If this guy was my teacher I would be an A student. The accent is iconic 👌🏾... And let me also shout out to the editors👌🏾
Great analysis as usual …most of the time I feel like wanna to press the “like” button several times or UA-cam should add an extra button for love your content… keep going this excellent work👌🏼👍
you've become my favourite channel and i really respect the time and effort that goes into making such high quality content. Kudos to the production team
Thank you for the very interesting breakdown. Your due diligence is appreciated.
Your researching skills are Mind - Blowing
This is my first time watching, but this was very informative. I like hearing "Adidas" pronounced the way it was meant to be pronounced too.
I swear this is how good oh my goal channel back then. Sad to see the declining
Now they are master of clickbait and soap opera
The reconstruction of the office meeting is really going the extra mile
Quality editing! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I love this channel so much, keep the great work!
Even with steph curry UA doesn’t even a put a dent in nikes revenue. Nike is big enough that they can afford to let people leave.
In athletics, a lot athlete is switching from Nike to Puma
No
When I played in junior team we had nike kit and shorts and I think it was so cool.
idk man ney is a worldwide icon
U mean they can't afford Neymar,right ?
@@ramkrishnapanigrahy3699 Neymar is huge in Brazil but dont really need him on a global scale when they have Ronaldo who is the biggest social media star.
@@zamis87 you sure about that!! Then why only he got to work with brands like Jordan and why cr7 was not chosen?? Both of them are globally recognised , Nike can't keep a player satisfied that's the problem. Because of this reason they had lost Stephen Curry too.
@@Babushkab0ii Jordan Brand is being marketed as a separate brand. Kylian Mbappe is the face of the Jordan brand. You could argue it should have been Neymar instead of Mbappe. But I think Mbappe is both younger and cheaper.
@@Babushkab0ii are you sure? They have no problem keeping the most popular player under their contracts though
I love the way they synchronized ending with neymar rolling out of the space.
Top marks💯
This guy is so underrated, such quality each and every time. We need more like this
Many athletes are leaving Nike though for brands such as puma, new balance & under amour
