Pat, as someone who has spent most of my adult life presenting to groups large and small, as well as training them to do that, you have a natural presenting ability that 99% of the people I've worked with strive for years to try and attain. You are a one man history channel, and I really enjoyed the clock Tower "out takes" showing your hugely impressive ad libbing abilities. I'm actually gobsmacked that you're only getting 5-10k views when the 'Pattaya bar girl walkabout" videos get 5-10 times as many. Proud of my fellow Brit and what you've achieved.
Thanks very much John, the outtakes were a mistake to leave in, as I was editing late and a faulty mouse distracted me many times and I didn't have a battery for it. And it's impossible to edit videos using a touchpad. I've been a DJ for many years and when I started you had to do a lot of talking and presenting things at gigs so I learned that from a young age, then later I was a radio presenter. It's a matter of speaking clearly, slowly and making sure you are understood the first time, which is essential for radio as you can't repeat yourself. I wasn't a video presenter until I started the channel but the only extra thing is to look at the camera lens and not the monitor of yourself! Yes, there are many channels doing so much better but I'm doing this channel for the 'long haul' I expect my content to be still relevant in a decade or more, and I realise many don't have the patience to watch my kind of videos so it's a niche channel that'll grow slowly (I was told)
Pat, as someone who’s made thousands of hours of all kinds of content involving on camera talent, when I tell you how much I enjoy your channel, it’s not simply being polite, it’s with a reasonable degree of history and experience. Your channel is easily one I would put up as broadcast quality, for what that’s worth.
In front of you on 1:44, it was a city wall run from fort along the cannel. Not far , it was a gate near Wat Saket call " ประตูผี" or Gate of Death. It was used to carry the infected dead (Such as CHOLERA) bodies out of the city wall. The bodies were just leaved in the yard let the Vulture clean up. Even now, we call the famous Pad Thai shops in that area : Gate of Death Pad Thai.
I had to wait about 15mins to get that shot of the outside as two people were sitting there smoking and playing with the black & white cat. Looked like a cool joint.
Thank you, once again. Due to COVID-19, it's been over a year since we have been to that part of Bangkok; and your video clip confirms how much we miss it; therefore, this was a great stroll down memory lane.
FYI, while I very much enjoyed your video, my wife who was brought up in the old city loved it, not only because it brought back many childhood memories but also introduced additional facts about its history, that she had not been aware of as a child. Thanks again for all of the information you are collecting and publishing about the life and history of Bangkok.
I've been to Bangkok about a dozen times and have prided myself on the fact that I've seen or experienced pretty much every important cultural thing both old and new there is to see or do there. I'm now a little embarassed to say I've never ventured up Wat Saket, thank you Pat for making me aware of it. It's now on the list for my next visit.
@@BangkokPat As you pointed out in that video, there has always been terrible public transport to that part of the city. So you've got to incur being ripped off by a taxi or tok tok driver. If you spend any time in that area there is alot of walking and few shopping centers or 7/11 fridge doors to hid in. So in the end you spend half a day in the blazing heat and give up by agreeing to an stupid price by a Tok tok or taxi driver to get you out of there. This is why I always stay in Rambuttri road ,close to the Phra Artit pier . Best way to explore the old city and get to the main central station with the local boat..

An impressive walk through the historic part of the City of Angels, highly recommended! Fortunately, there are still places in Bangkok without hyper modern shopping centers 🙏. Thank you Pat for taking us to a place where you can still find your peace without any stress. As always, I had to watch the video 2 or 3 times to see all the facets of your work. Spent a day there in 99 then in 2006 was busy then, looks great at night very quiet.I love the old photos and wooden buildings superb effort Pat thanks.
Gotta love those photographs from the past! I first visited those locations in 1998 before the BTS and MRT were built. Keep making these videos! A new subscriber
The best Bangkok content and knowledge source online... I know this area well - Wat Saket and surrounding areas make for a great place to visit whether in the day or at night...
Definitely, I've walked around there many times and recently a lot due to the tours I've been doing and I never get bored of the area. Thanks for the kind words!
It’s a wonderful temple to visit and many cute restaurants around the corner when you come outside. The best way to get there is the Klong boats. Well done Pat
Great presentation, I remember when we stayed in Bangkok we went to the Royal Palace by way of the river ferry. It was a great experience just watching them moving the roof up and down as the ferry went through the tunnels. I wouldn't fancy going in the water, it was quite a pungent smell in places.
Many thanks. Excellent production values (cinematography, script, captioning, sound design, and editing) which put to shame virtually every other creator on UA-cam in Thailand. Glad to to see that you touched on the history of the trams in Bangkok as earlier in the video you showed several old stills of streetcars/trams - it's a shame that the streetcars were retired. Thanks again.
Thanks for the kind words Rex, it's a shame that between trams being retired and the Skytrain there was no rail transit within Bangkok whatsoever apart from the main lines. I do plan to do a proper tram video and I'm actually compiling footage at the moment!
Thanks Pat for your Very Interesting Historical video with, as always, your Clear information. And also interesting your map with the numbers you put in. Appreciate, Very Useful. 🙏

I like the old city area at night. I was there also and it have a special flair with all the lights shining on to the government buildings and palaces. Good video :)
That's what made the video so tinted in yellow, even many of the streetlights use softglow lighting. Soothing tone, maybe that's why nobody does anything bad, they are too relaxed to! Cheers Frank!

@Bangkok Pat. Good video! Never a dull moment in your video presentations. I was not complaining about a lack of cats in your videos. A good change of pace with out the cats for the couple of video’s. I appreciate the cats coming back on this video. The old city side in Bangkok is very unique with a good mix of old and new buildings that is not a big shopping mall.
I've seen this one before yet it's only gone live today...... was this one first seen on the Thaigar?...... If so, that would explaine it...... Good vid though as all yours are, plenty of food for thought for when farangs are allowed back.......
The Thaiger version was about half the running time and a lot less info, and that was shot about 2wks ago. This is a lot of new footage and was mostly shot over the last few days.
I really like this part of town, especially after dark. Lots of heritage, no gaudy western crap. A nice spot to have a house with a garden I reckon. I imagine about some of the those upper floor long shop-houses that abound around there and how amazing it would be to combine and renovate a bunch of them into a large modern home.
I was walking down the sois off Bangrung Muang Road after the Giant Swing, and thought exactly the same, lovely location, nice looking architecture and less traffic in the evenings.
Interesting and informative as usual, Pat! The old city is so beautiful, and parts of it that I was glad to see many years ago. Seeing your video makes me realize I've not seen many parts of BKK yet. Thanks for the history lesson. The golden buddhas are gorgeous as well as the architecture of the temples.
Probably one of the few countries where beautiful religious and civil architecture are so well expressed in a country whose natural beauty and friendliness of people are world renowned. It ticks all the boxes of someone who doesn’t come from two countries who lack beautiful nature and an abundance of history: Greece and the USA. Thailand is unique in ways that make it like no other country.
You were tantalisingly close to my "cat alley", a surprisingly long, narrow pathway behind a temple, which, on my first venture down, must have had close to 50 or more cats (many of them blue-eyed Siamese). Subsequent visits never equalled the first, but never disappointed.
Shame I missed that, if it was actually still there. I saw plenty of cats about but it's not always I have the camera handy, I need to switch it on and get in a good spot and by that time they've run off, unless of course they don't mind! Cheers Martyn!
I like your channel very much with full of good information and servings. I am also very keen to know more of Bangkok haunted old places of the old past. Been to BKK many times before, but not the ghost temple which most channels already shown and I have also been there. It's just a commerative temple and not at all huanted actually
Thanks very much for the kind words, I know the temple you are talking about and it's a story well known already, there's nothing I can add to it all so I will leave it alone! I am looking for ghost stories all the time and have a couple I am working on right now. They are not known stories and it has been a challenge to gather so much info but I think I have at least one video coming very soon.
Here’s an essential video every newcomer to Bangkok should watch. I wish I had this back in 2011 when I first visited. So much good stuff in here as always, Pat. And I reckon you had a great time shooting this - nice buildings and a leisurely peaceful walk with an abundance of cats! Wishing you good shooting days (or nights) like these always! Cheers 😎
Thanks Liro, this was 3 evenings total I was doing this video. I'll arrive around 5.30pm before it gets dark, I can get the shots I need on the whole route. Next day I'll improve on any shots I wasn't happy with the day before and the last day same again but also shoot the dialogue bits, which take the longest, having to re-take if I forget words or correct dates. I shot the last part of this video on Saturday night at 11pm by Sanam Chai MRT! I shot a shorter, briefer version for The Thaiger 2wks ago which took 4hrs.and which I didn't edit the final cut.
@@BangkokPat how painstakingly tedious! But the level of effort shows. Nothing but respect for you, Pat! 🙇♂️ And now off to watch the Thaiger version. Cheers and see you in the next one!
Thanks Jennifer! That took 3 visits to shoot all of it, I had shot some for a similar video on Thaiger but this one is a lot more comprehensive and required more time to shoot a lot more parts.
I have given you your first LIKE 👍 here. I enjoy your video. I supposed to be in Bangkok end of January but Thailand Test & Go now have been suspended so I have to canceled my trip. May you film a segment of Four Face Buddha beside Grand Hyatt on the morning of 1 February 2022 as it always my usual trip to pay my respect on first day of Lunar New Year. I have missed for the pass 2 years due to pandemic
I will go there and shoot something on 1st February and do a short video.. great idea! Hopefully you can get here at some point later in the year. Government has realised that this new 'strain' is diminishing now and want to relax restrictions.
Thanks Pat. used to know this area very well. brought back some nice memories. Do you have any idea if the wood working shops are still around the streets surrounding the Golden mount ? i bought several things there and loved watching them being made.
Yet another great spot Pat. Speaking of cats...in all my years of visiting Thailand and seeing a LOT of the country, I don't think I have ever seen a Siamese cat! Are they kept under lock and key in special cat rooms of the uber rich? Have they gone out of favour? ps- Remind me to tell you about our Thai Ridgeback dog.
Thanks mate! There are a few about, those elusive Siamese cats. One was hanging around the bins at the Food Market in Bang Son. I see some stunning ones kept on a leash in peoples yards or shops, maybe they are somewhat kept apart from the regular cats. Plenty of inter breeding though. A Rhodesian Ridgeback in Thailand? That'd be a first for me, tell me more Bob.
17:43 Plenty of 'romance' can be found along Sanam Chai Rd after dark typically waiting for you as you drive up under the trees that line the street. The locals often 'confuse' these shadowy figures as Jack fruit ghosts...
Really? I didn't realise!! I knew it's not the actual original, as they were renovating last month and I saw metal supports. But it's still the memory and historic purpose it serves that makes it so impressive.

Damn, I love this stuff... and nobody does it better than BKK Pat. Very interesting and informative. Thanks much mate!
Thanks very much, glad you liked it mate!
Very interesting video. Thank you Pat. Wat Phra Kaen is on my to do list. Looking forward to more history.......Sal : )
Thanks Sai, glad you enjoyed it!
I saw you with Peter, Thailand Bound. Don't know how I missed you before. Great vds. Thanks.
Another great vlog ,thank you .
Many thanks for the kind words.
I love the old city especially where the clock tower is down by the deta.I love your videos Pat cob cun carp🙏❤
Thanks Leonardo, that area is great.
@@BangkokPat I spent 3 weeks in BB house behind the monks college down the lane from Rambutri street Beautiful part of town 🙏
Good tour - thanks for preparing the detailed map!
I'm looking forward to the next part 2.
Thanks so much Pat I look forward to to all your historic videos
Cheers John, many more to come too!
I agree with you on that Dean, well said mate.
Thanks from all the local cats 😺🙀😻🐭
They were very cooperative for this video, most of them anyway!
Another great historical insights to bangkok, Pat 👍👍 👍
Cheers, glad you enjoyed that!
Fascinating stuff and Very well put together, impressive knowledge
You were tantalisingly close to my "cat alley", a surprisingly long, narrow pathway behind a temple, which, on my first venture down, must have had close to 50 or more cats (many of them blue-eyed Siamese). Subsequent visits never equalled the first, but never disappointed.
Shame I missed that, if it was actually still there. I saw plenty of cats about but it's not always I have the camera handy, I need to switch it on and get in a good spot and by that time they've run off, unless of course they don't mind! Cheers Martyn!
Sat at home in England watching now Pat,,,great video again,,
Glad you enjoyed it mate, I do often miss London and Cornwall in the winter!
Great Video 👍😎
Cheers, it's lovely in the evenings!
Siamese cat is a Thai cat breed name Wichien Maat . exported to Western countries in the 19th.
Brilliant - cheers Pat.
Excellent 🙏
Thanks Joseph, much appreciated.
Loved it. Fascinating part of the city. Is there a Dusit video coming?
Yes I have every intention of doing that very soon.
Can't wait, @@BangkokPat!
You mentioned that you were working on a video on Jim Thompson, is it coming out soon? Looking forward to this video .
It's on a list of things to do still, I've made the notes already which means I will get it done very soon!
Outstanding! The amount of research you must have undertaken is amazing too! Wonder how long you took to do the whole walk too.....
Do you have any idea if the wood working shops are still around the streets surrounding the Golden mount ? i bought several things there and loved watching them being made.
great video lots of info
I want more cats! 😁
Hmmm, that wasn't enough? Another cat video in the works, please hang on!
17:43 Plenty of 'romance' can be found along Sanam Chai Rd after dark typically waiting for you as you drive up under the trees that line the street. The locals often 'confuse' these shadowy figures as Jack fruit ghosts...
Thanks Pete! I didn't know that, or rather I hadn't looked at the trees!
The Giant swing pillar seen today is the latest one that is taller than the old one.
Really? I didn't realise!! I knew it's not the actual original, as they were renovating last month and I saw metal supports. But it's still the memory and historic purpose it serves that makes it so impressive.
this videos might also be interesting for Thai bkk residents...by the way i spotted the first soi dog
Quality content 👍🏻
after watching that trailer... no wonder i could not find Pat on the streets. that could have been his twin
Cheers Peter, there's often two of me in videos.......now you know why!!
Pat is on his way back to fix his video guys, sorry for that bit, he was in a hurry 😅🙏🙏❤️
It's fixed!!
Thx for video! Miss Thailand((((( Please Sound louder if possible
