Hi Pat, Thanks a lot for this. I actually visited the museum last week and it was amazing, thoroughly recommended. My guide, an American guy, owned the Strip Bar apparently. When I was walking through the spectacular 'Grand Prix' bar, there was a guy asleep in there, which turned out to be Sucky! As you show, he's a real character and we had a laugh together at the end with the other staff as well. Bought a cool Mississippi Queen T-shirt in there too. I hope this excellent museum can ironically bring the faded Patpong area back to light. Cheers mate!

@@BangkokPat I was scammed at one of the Patpong ping pong shows. They try to charge 2000 Baht for one beer. Ended up paying a 1000 Baht after negotiating.
Pat, i watched the shorter video, last week and enjoyed that, but i must say found this longer one more informative and enjoyable. having been to Bkk many times over the years i never went to Pat Pong not my thing, but i wish i had gone to see it in its hay day when i was first there in 1990.
Patpong wasn't my thing either, always sounded too dodgy, I had a few drinks with friends once, been to Silom Soi 4, Noriega's but that's not Patpong really. This video was a bit more comprehensive, on Thaiger I like to keep them under 12 minutes!
Went there back in the 90's. It was wild then, so many bars. You definitely needed to have your wits about you there. Great memories on my part. That was a fascinating history of the place. excellent video Pat.
Fantastic explanation of the evolution of Patpong. One thing that I thought was missing was the night bizarre which was very much part of Patpong and used to be (very noisily) set up every day at 4pm and would sell a lot of tourist merchandise in the night time then were taken apart again in the early hours of the morning. I am an expat and have lived in Bangkok for 17 years, many years ago I had a special 'friend' who did the day shift in one of the bars, she clocked off at 7pm so as long as I took her to the food court in the multi story carpark near Foodland she would usually come back with me to my apartment in Bangkae for free (never paid any bar fines as I would leave before closing time and discreetly wait for her.) Last year I was working in Silom and visited Patpong, during the day I made a video of the current locations where the Deerhunter shots were made and later replayed the movie. Great feelings of nostalgia.
Great video,When I first arrived in Bangkok Patpong in 1999 then was still busy so i use to visit a couple of times a week but then at that time both Nana Plaza and the Love Club Disco inside the Nana hotel were rocking and rolling not to mention the Nana Hotel coffe shop that served great food and Beer until 6 am in the morning........... Those were truly great days,Nights and early mornings in Bangkok
Been waiting for this, Pat! Brought back a lot of memories of wild times spent in Patpong in the good old days. The Grand Prix was always my go-to spot.
Great presentation. The first time I came to Thailand 1987, had a great time at Patpong and Soi Cowboy and of course brought a Rolex at the market. Thanks for the history lesson about the place, most enjoyable
Thanks Pat, another great video bringing back great memories. First went there in 1989 as QF crew and can remember great shows/entertainers at Radio House I think it was called, original Thai massage at Marble House and of course other entertaining bars that we frequented.
Thank you Pat! Your videos have a feel like no other Thailand / BKK videos on UA-cam. The atmosphere you create through photos, music, carefully selected shots and narration is so engaging and compelling. Every video is such a pleasure to watch. I love hearing about the infrastructure, the people and the history. Love the shots of beautiful but old buildings and the gorgeous streetscape. The only thing close is the back streets of Tokyo. I was relieved to hear that there’s no danger of Patpong being sold off to developers. I hope it’s true and the neighborhood will live on for many years to come. There seems to be an endless well of history in Bangkok to draw from, but please don’t feel like you need to make a masterpiece every single time. I’m happy to watch a video of you walking around and petting cats too, haha.
I just had lunch at Madrid late November. It looked closed but when you took a closer look it was actually open operating with a minimal staff. Some of the other smaller bars have just started to open up again.
I just discovered your channel Pat, and this video certainly brings me down memory lane as I used to go often there 40 years ago when I stayed in a neighborhood not far away on soi Narm Dupli. There were 2 hotels there built for American GI's during the Vietnam war. One was the Boston Inn, the other The Malaysia hotel ( still there and not long ago renovated) Charles Sobraj was a guest there before my time. Pat....please more videos down memory lane. Great job on this one!
Pat, You always deliver a top notch product. I haven’t visited Thailand since the late 90s but will certainly look you up to share some great food and beverage. My wife and I can’t wait to visit again.
Again, very cool video. Digging deep, handing out buzzwords for me to dig deeper. I'm pausing your vids often and dig where you have dropped a mark. Excellent stuff, Sir! That and you're a pro presenter. Honestly. Kudos.
Great video BP. And interesting to see the old photos and video you have scouted out. I frequented Patpong from the early eighties, but always looked upon it as
(Contd) a bit of a rip-off, but also a museum piece. I loved the old places like Crown Royal, Madrid, Thai Room, Cosmos etc. These days with Bouchon closed, French Kiss in Patpong 2 is about the only place to eat - and that’s about it! Oh well…
@@guyjackson1763 French Kiss still going strong. The place should be reinvented as a high end eating and drinking area, which was the opinion of a couple of bar owners I met and spoke to.
Pat, another fantastic story which brought back memories of my first Bangkok visit in 1976. Fascinating history. Do you remember the old Mamasan who used to work in CheckInn 99 in Sukhumvit? I think she used to work in Superstar in the 80s.
Thanks David, glad it sent you down memory lane, all the way back to '76! I'm not the right person to ask about mamasans, but it's worth looking at www.bangkokeyes.com for some very good coverage of this scene! Happy New Year for 2022!
Happy New Year Pat!!! Hope you had good one. Firstly, your new microphone works really well, voices are crisp and loud. And secondly, though “table tennis” isn’t my cup of tea, I quite enjoyed your presentation of Patpong’s history. I’ve never visited but will definitely add it and the Patpong Museum to my to-go list next time I’m in the city. Hope I get Sucky.
Thanks Liro, that mic is actually what I've use all the time, normally I have my mic plugged into it and it's hidden in my back pocket. I did used to use 2 mic for chats but I find it's easier to just hold that, as the built in mics are very good quality! Happy New Year to you to! Let's hope 2022 is better than the last 2....
@@BangkokPat Ah! I’ve never seen it before so maybe the sight of it made me perceive the voices to be more audible. Either way, audio is great especially during the interviews. Yeah, cheers to 2022! Wish you all the best!
Hi Pat, another epic video. Never realized the Super Star bar had such fame & history attached. Oh pat if you ever decide to do another garden / Park video then check out Santiphap Park, very close to Victory Monument. Nice park very tidy with a few small ponds.......
Thanks Jason, a lot more to Patpong than many think! I did visit that park in my Victory Monument video a year ago, and of course there were cats there!
Thanks Pat. This was a walk down memory lane for me, having first experienced PP in the late 70s but also reading up on its origins later. Spent my fair share of my time there. Mizu’s kitchen and the Napoleon Club with my America wife, and the Grand Prix and Mississippi Queen with my single expat buddies. Your videos in general are awesome. Can you do something about the seventies era Ter Seafood sign on Sukhumvit, he big neon sign of a woman’s lips with a finger in front with Thai lettering that looked LSD in English? Can’t seem to find a picture of it anywhere but on the cover of Jerry Hopkins’ book Bangkok Babylon.
Spent allot of time on Patpong road in 1973/74, in 73 the place was just unbelievable with the GI’s and the absolute prettiest women on the planet. In late 74 different vibe as the USA was pulling out of Vietnam and the Thai’s were very concerned about their future. In 79/80 spent most of my time at the Super Star bar those were the best of times for a 24yr old, hope to go back soon but just for the great food.
Good video.I am surprised Patpong may be re-opening at all. There was an article in the Bangkok Post last March that the street was on it's last legs because of the pandemic. We have had nothing but eleven more months of lockdown since then...Sad....You hit most of the main points.I will just add that Safari go-go also opened in 1969 and it's interior looked very similar to how most Vietnam-era bars did.The David Bowie movie was pretty cool.I saw it for the first time about nine years ago and I loved the scene in Superstars.
I think Patpong has possibly had its heyday, let's be honest most people prefer Nana or Cowboy and Patpong has that seedy stigma attached to it in the form of scams and sex shows. I heard rumours of it being turned into an upmarket dining and party zone.
Always avoided places like Patpong and Nana but after watching this now I want to visit the museum there. I almost came to Thailand as early as 1984 because for a short time my sister was missing in Bangkok. Thinking back now I am glad I did not I was not ready for Thailand. David Bowie what a legend miss him. Really enjoyed this Pat excellent show as always.
Wow! Thanks Pat for that fascinating history. I was in Patpong in 1974 as a young, eighteen year old American GI. I was stationed in the North at Udorn AB and had a short visit to Bangkok, Patpong and Pattaya. I have no recollection of what club I visited or even how I found out about Patpong. Unfortunately, I only took photos of the Royal Palace. I have no photos of Patpong or Pattaya. I have no bad memories. I only have very vivid memories of the infamous ping pong shows in the clubs I visited in Patpong. I remember it all now, like sweet dream. All very rich, savory memories that will always be with me.
@@BangkokPat I would love to revisit Patpong in the future. But I have recently read stories warning me about scams perpetrated against tourists there. I’m not sure if it is a safe area anymore.

Another great video: I can't get enough of Patpong Road history, as that road is a big part of my history! Thank you, once again, for such great work! Keep it up!
Thanks Tony, happy new year to you and the family, there's s much that has gone down over the years, so much so that I'm going to do a part 2!
@@BangkokPat And Happy New Year to you, too. I will be looking forward to part 2.
What amazing info! The start of go go bars was wild!
Thanks Randy, unique area, that's for sure.
This was one of the most entertaining videos Pat, keep up the splendid work.
Thanks, there's still more stories, pics and info so there will be a Part 2.
@@BangkokPat perfect, can't wait for that
New subscriber and really impressed. There's a depth and a substance that's absent in almost every other Thai UA-camr's videos. There's a place for everything of course, and I'm as superficial as the next man, but great work man, really different and deserves a bigger audience 👍
Wow patpong museum. Interezting. Wow. Good information. Thanks all.
Worth a trip for sure....
Another superb video Pat, thanks so much. I really get the vibe of Patpong watching this. Love the pong! Miss it much! Up country and hope the bars will be allowed to open soon. Had a long story about Patpong and that part of town. But UA-cam won't allow it. Oh well guess I'll have to save it and put it in my book haha! Cheers!
Thanks Shemus, I'm planning a part 2 as there are many more stories and photos I didn't include as well as a couple more chats. How about telling me the story? Email me and I can tell some of it in the 2nd video! djpat2000@hotmail.com
Brilliant work once again! I really enjoyed this episode.
🥰🙏 @Scott D ^^
Thanks Scott, and I hope you're enjoying the festive period! Let's hope 2022 brings better things!
I am sure most people, including myself, found Michael's detailed Patpong history quite Messnerizing. Kudos to your channel.
It's a history that definitely warrants a video, despite what many think of this area.
Wow Pat, you should be on all major tv doco channels the world over. So interesting, well researched and with excellent guests. Thank you so much. 😮
Loved the presentation. I must admit though, I have given Patpong a miss my last few visits. It’s in dire need of a clean up for mine. I will however drop into the museum next time for sure. Cheers.
Another very interesting video. Great historical footage!
I have many pictures from 87-92 that I will be putting on a video very soon. Excellent trip down memory lane. Thank you, liked and subscribed
Thanks Karl, would love to see the photos so that means I should be subscribing to you!

Thanks for your videos this year, Pat. Really enjoyed all of them and here's to hopefully a brighter 2022, mate.
Have a great new year and all the best to you and your family.
Thanks Rick for the support mate, hope you had a good Xmas, and Happy New Year for 2022!
Exellent work Pat!!!
Thanks mate, and hope you have a happy new year for 2022!
So glad you put this on your channel Pat a great way to finish the year.
All the best and good luck in 2022 and thank you for all the effort you put in to your vlogs , it really shows Pat 👏👏👏
Many thanks Pat for another well presented and informative video. Best wishes for your continued success in 2022
Great video again Pat!
Thanks mate, was an interesting place to shoot. I saw some sights you would never believe!
Great video/documentary. I love learning about Bangkok history. I hope to visit Bangkok again soon.
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope it works out and you get here, happy new year.
Thanks, Pat. Another great video.
Thanks a lot mate, definitely an interesting place, there are many other stories too, and photos, which will be covered in Part 2!
Great vid Pat. Thanks!
Have a splendid 2022 🙏😃
Thanks Rod, hope you have a great new year too mate.
Interesting video with cool background music. Cheers Pat
Really interesting. Thanks for putting this together.
Thanks Stephen, have a great new year mate.
Sir, you are a great host, very good presentation. Very nice voice to listen to. Sound like a professional
Been waiting for this, Pat! Brought back a lot of memories of wild times spent in Patpong in the good old days. The Grand Prix was always my go-to spot.
Thanks Mark, it took a while! Hope you had a good festive season, and have a great 2022.
@@BangkokPat You too, Pat.
Another excellent video. Thank you.
Another GREAT video, so much that I didn’t know about Patong… 😎. Your content is some of the best on UA-cam keep it up 👍
Thanks so much for the comment and glad that you've also learned about Patpong!
Great presentation. The first time I came to Thailand 1987, had a great time at Patpong and Soi Cowboy and of course brought a Rolex at the market. Thanks for the history lesson about the place, most enjoyable
Thanks Robert, every place has a story that deserves to be told and Patpong still has much more to reveal, maybe a Part 2 coming!
Thanks Pat, another great video bringing back great memories. First went there in 1989 as QF crew and can remember great shows/entertainers at Radio House I think it was called, original Thai massage at Marble House and of course other entertaining bars that we frequented.
Excellent video Pat. Informative and entertaining. Great stuff. 👍👍👍
Thanks very much Trevor.
That's were awesome pictures pat pong . I do remember very well .back in the 70s . You did a wonderful job by showing
The old pat pong.
A fantastic piece of history that most Thais probably don’t know about. Well done, BKKPAT.
Well it was closed ( the top padlock was locked ) the first week of December - I went there twice trying to get in
I hope to see it open again
The Madrid was always a pleasant experience and a cool break from the heat.
When we were in Patpong I dont remember seeing this museum. Must check it out when we are back. Keep up the great video's. Happy New Year.
Thanks Keith, it's definitely worth a visit. A drink is included in the ticket price!
@@BangkokPat No arguments there.
Another belter of a video good work Pat.👍
Pat, You always deliver a top notch product. I haven’t visited Thailand since the late 90s but will certainly look you up to share some great food and beverage. My wife and I can’t wait to visit again.
Again, very cool video. Digging deep, handing out buzzwords for me to dig deeper. I'm pausing your vids often and dig where you have dropped a mark. Excellent stuff, Sir! That and you're a pro presenter. Honestly. Kudos.
Another class video
I used to party there 1990 to 97 it was rocking
But pattaya surpassed it in 2000 by a mile
☘️☘️👍🍀🍀🍀👍👍👍
Absolutely loved this vid Pat ❤
Great video.I will visit the museum soon and relive some of my 80s visit to Patpong
Another great video pat ,the history of Bkk is fascinating 🇮🇪🇹🇭👍🤔
Thanks Joe, there's a never ending supply of history continuing through 2022 as well! Happy New Year!
Another great history video.
Thanks again John, have a great 2022 mate.
A great historical video Pat 👍
I visited Derby King a few weeks ago ,was disappointed not to be able to see Madrid open
Great stuff. Subscribed.
Great stuff, Pat!
Thanks man! Happy New Year by the way mate.
I'm not the right person to ask about mamasans, but it's worth looking at
www.bangkokeyes.com for some very good coverage of this scene! Happy New Year for 2022!
Pat has done it again 1 more great video ,
Thanks Gabriella, hope you have a great 2022!
Nice video, I love these historical videos and involving locals!
Yes, Ter, aka the LSD Seafood Palace sign! Upload that video, please. The Sugarland Express is leaving soon.
Thanks Joe, glad you liked it mate. There is a photo of that sign somewhere and if you drop me an email I can find it and send you a jpg.
What a great piece
Thank you George, have a nice 2022 mate.
Fascinating Pat. I always was interested in the Jim Thompson connection. But incredible, my favorite video by you.
Thank you for the video. Really amazing.
very entertaining, thank you.
Thanks Thomas!
Good video.I am surprised Patpong may be re-opening at all. There was an article in the Bangkok Post last March that the street was on it's last legs because of the pandemic. We have had
nothing but eleven more months of lockdown since then...Sad....You hit most of the main points.I will just add that Safari go-go also opened in 1969 and it's interior looked very similar to how
most Vietnam-era bars did.The David Bowie movie was pretty cool.I saw it for the first time about nine years ago and I loved the scene in Superstars.
I think Patpong has possibly had its heyday, let's be honest most people prefer Nana or Cowboy and Patpong has that seedy stigma attached to it in the form of scams and sex shows. I heard rumours of it being turned into an upmarket dining and party zone.
@@BangkokPat Wait and see.Alot of great memories for me there.
Thanks mate, not the most glamourous of places but it has its place in Bangkok's history.
fantastic stuff pat.
Amazing documentary !you are really good to explain things and your commentary is superb, definitely you stand out from the crowd.
Great Vid Pat
Cheers John, hope you have a great 2022 mate.
Very interesting,Thanks
Great to hear that John, and nice that you have vivid memories to look back on!
@@BangkokPat I would love to revisit Patpong in the future. But I have recently read stories warning me about scams perpetrated against tourists there. I’m not sure if it is a safe area anymore.
