- Today I headed to the old town of Bangkok (Rattanakosin) to sample three incredible Thai street food dishes in one area. I want to help you find authentic Thai street food wherever you are staying in Bangkok by giving you these little DIY food tours in every area of the city.
First stop was Hiso Curry Rice Khun Aew (ข้าวแกงไฮโซ คุณแอ๋ว) for some amazing crab dishes. The crab meat is MASSIVE here and seeing it only cost 120 THB for a bowl, it's an absolute bargain too. My apologies for saying Pa El in the video, here name is Pa Ae

We finally went to there today with the purpose to try Jack’s khao man gai but he wasn’t there via MRT. We headed to Hi So but they were out of the crab curry. So we tried the krua gai. This place deserves Michilin award. We told them how we learned about their place from your UA-cam. To be honest, we tried two michilin guide from your videos and couldn’t agree with them about the food. Our young son even commented that nothing to write home about Here Hai and rad na in old town.
You speak Thai very well, correctly, clearly, and politely.

@@theroamingcook I moved to the USA when I was nine, my Thai is not that good but I am exactly like you, if I start a conversation, or I understand the context, I can understand. But if someone initiated a conversation, someone I don’t understand or it takes me a while to begin to comprehend.
It’s very hard isn’t it! It must be harder for you because people I guess expect you to understand? I have Thai friends that don’t speak any Thai at all but locals will talk to them thinking they are raised here their whole life and fluent! Do you ever get a chance to come back and visit?
@@theroamingcook I go once a year. But oddly, some Thais thinks I’m Filipino. Once someone remarked on how well I speak Thai. I was flattered until she said, I never met a Filipino with such good Thai skills.

@@theroamingcook What makes your channel special for me similar to Paddy's is the effort you put into each video. Instead of making video of popular tourist spot, you seek for special stuff. For example, I been to the neighborhood in this video many times since I was 10 (now 37) but I don't even know that 2 shops exists. The video work is also great with good explanation ... I mean overall this is great stuff, not sure how UA-cam algorithm hid you for so long!

Gary, we have just visited both of your recommended food stalls today, and can only say wow! We had lunch at Auntie Piens and it was delicious, she was so busy we had to wait 20 minutes for our Bamee Kia MoonDaeng but it was worth it! Great to see them so busy and loved sitting watching all the hustle and bustle! We then got Hiso crab curry to take home for dinner and have just eaten it cold with salad, have to say it is one of the best things we have eaten on this trip, and only £3.50 each for our meals today, amazing! What really stands out from you than others is you go into so much detail when you're eating tastings all the herbs and spices and telling us the viewers and not only do we see the delicious foods but because of your details i can almost taste it, I've been a butcher now for around 34 years so i do like to dabble in the kitchen and my favourite foods to cook are Asian but nothing like what your eating but i try, stay safe over there 🍻🙏🙏🙏

I think many people have said this already but I would love to say it too. As a Thai, I really appreciate the way you appreciate the food, the way you pay respect to the culture (just like you said: it's not "strange" but "unfamiliar". 😊), speak and keep improving your Thai (although it's very good already!), interact with locals to learn and understand things more etc. I'm really happy to see a foreigner who understand and try to learn more about Thai culture this much. 🙏

I love that your videos (including this one) are so packed with information and... stuff. They always feel a little too short. Like I'd love for it to be 5 minutes longer and get to see some more of Bangkok. But I guess, it is better this way, that they feel a condensed rather than feel too stretched out.

The spicy crab salad was amazing, we also had red curry crab which was also great and creamy and delicate (she could've gone heavier on the salt) and my 7 year old daughter loved it. Hi Gary. I'm Thai, is living in Canada. Thank you for food tour reviews in my home country. I am very impressed that you could eat any spicy hot food as same level as Thai people. So, I guess your wife is Thai. But on the other hand, my Canadian husband has never improved his skill to eat Thai spicy foods.

it would have a different meaning, and not a prawn or shrimp. I am
also Thai, assuming you are, too, and I have never heard the word คุ้ง, have you?

The Governor has a true love of the city, and from what I’ve seen of your videos thus far, you are a great ambassador of Bangkok the city and the country and Thai culture. I can see why he would be a big fan of you. If it hasn’t already happen, can’t wait to see a video of you taking him to one of your favorite hidden gems in Bangkok and him show you his! Maybe you should reach out to Thai tourism authority and see if maybe they can hook you two up!

Haha! You’re not fat 😀I would be though if I lived in Bangkok...haha...I can eat noodle dishes all day, every day! Such a lovely atmosphere near the canal. I definitely have to go back to the area around Sam Yot. Have only been there for a short visit to look at Jay Fai make food :) No table was available at her restaurant of course so we ate at a tiny street restaurant down the street from her. Delicious and 1000 times cheaper. Have you been to Jay Fai? Thanks again for a great video.
