I really miss the days when slender man was the focus of horror, before the controversy 😔 it’s such an amazing premise and monster. Thank you so much for keeping the memory alive!
This brings 360 vibes back man. I remember me and my friends would get into a party and tell each other where to go because we were so scared we weren't going in the right directions
Ok, this was really good- To add to all of this, I don’t think CR went "insane" before he burned himself. He planned the burning ahead, he left a note for Kate that told her to bring gasoline and told her that he knows how to end this. Slenderman in this case, works like a curse, and we can see how it works if we look at the writing at the walls: "You know about him- he knows about you". If you know about him, for example because your Grandmother told you stories about him, he‘s going to stalk you "He wants them to warn you" and "You warn them - and doom them" further shows how this curse spreads. Kate warns Lauren about the Slenderman through her drawings and notes, and ultimately dooms her too. CR realizes this too late, but he already found out (probably through Friedas letter he found in the homestead level) that the way of saving yourself (and others from getting 'infected') is to burn yourself. Kate refuses to go through with that plan and escapes, while CR burns to death. It‘s possible that CR set the woods on fire too, but not sure about that one. Kate running away from CR ultimately seals her fate as proxy.
@@cartooncritique6625 who on earth is the bye-bye man? The burning could be like something curse-specific, similar to how people in the middle ages thought you could get rid of evil by fire (resulted in witch-burning)
@@reur3965 Long story short, "The Bye-Bye Man" is kind of a Slenderman/Boogie Man knockoff that was made into a mediocre movie back in 2017. The film used a similar premise for the monster where he'd haunted and drive you to kill yourself and others just from knowing his name.
It would make sense that the woods would catch on fire too. Not necessarily an intentional act by CR, but since he used gasoline it's not out of the question that it accidentally started an out-of-control forest fire.
So Slenderman is like an info-hazard that can only “harm” you if you have a vague awareness of his existence? So why did Charlie Mathewson get kidnapped? Was it because he was part of a family that did the ritual? I’m guessing it’s a proximity based “curse.” Interesting nonetheless
I had an experience with this game that I never seen anyone else bring up. On my first playthrough of this game there was a moment once you get to the house and it was after dark I clicked on the missing person on the telephone pole directly in front of the house and was instantly killed. The game loads a checkpoint and it loads me into a void and I'm on fire with Slenderman looming over me. It was permanent stuck in this fail state or whatever it was. I had to exit out and start a new game. I've never heard of this happening to anyone else. I thought it was triggered by the poster but I've seen playthroughs where people definitely click on the poster and nothing like that happens. So it was this strange unique experience that only I've seen I guess. Has this happened to anybody else?
This game was absolutely phenomenal. Very well made horror game that saw success after being expanded on, which rarely happens with other urban myth/creepypasta personalities
I love it when people go back to Slender! The Arrival is a great game to reminisce about the internet in the early 2010’s! I’m glad the hype gave birth to a game that stood well with others of its time!
I so much agree with the Backrooms part! They butchered the Backroom and its effect and now EVERY similar looking liminal space room (best example the liminal space pool rooms) are now considered Backroom levels???? I honestly hate the fact that every liminal space is now considered a Backroom level or "it looks like the backroom" by the mainstream media Am I the only one? For me the issue isn’t that every liminal space is considered a “level” it’s that they miss the uncanny factor yeah sure it’s “liminal” but it doesn’t look uncanny enough to be considered for that backrooms stuff
Yeah the monsters ruined it for me, as well as knowing there were other survivors, in who knows what level. To me, the scariest part of the backrooms is not knowing what is there in the first place, whether the monster that my anxiety created was really real or not
Also the fact every "creepy youtuber" milked the hell out of it, making hundreds of videos about every inch of lore of the backrooms. Also the amount of reaction videos there are people watching the fan videos from that o e guy also ruined the atmosphere

I also noted that all of the locations CR and Kate go to (hospital, mental asylums, CR telling Kate to go to the street) are all locations of the different maps made for Slender the 8 pages My personal headcanon is that Slender Santorium or Hospice is Kate or CR hallucinating after encountering him in the woods. Or even Slender 7th Street could be Kate going to meet CR by the street like what CR mentioned in the message.
