The st is quick, but that's IF the transmission doesn't mess up, cause it does often. 60k miles and it's been at the dealership longer than in our driveway. The amount of problems with STs is absolutely insane. No way I could own one after watching my wife go through her mess with it. Front camera replaced and recalibrated, still don't work. Alarms goes off randomly. It's quite the POS!
To the GV80's benefit, it weighs 300lbs more than the MDX and it rides on 22 inch wheels vs 21 inches on the MDX. It's also tuned for a relaxed, smooth operation. So the GV80 did remarkably well in keeping up with it.
I would choose the GV80 any day of the week over the Ford. Clearly, the Ford lacks the opulence, luxury, refinement and attention grabbing that the Genesis has. In any of those vehicles, I won't be dag racing. Instead I would be taking long interstate journeys in powerful vehicles. The only thing the Genesis lacks is a legacy. And they are doing a great job of establishing one.

and its 4 year old, not a single issue.
I just knew the Ford would do well because police use this vehicle so it has gotta be extra fast, but that Type S looks terrific
I have a 2020 explorer st and it's a BEAST.
Congratulations on 200,000 subscribers
Thank you so much 😀
Finally my wish you command mr Sam! Thank you for this beautiful drag race and roll race Sam! 😊
The race we been wanting and waiting for. We all been browsing thru these SUVs.
We don't get these card in Scotland but the Acura MDX type s looks stunning, I'd happily chose that one out of the 3 purely on looks 👌😁🏴
Hi team,
I kindly request you to please make a DRAG video on VW PASSAT 2021 or 2022 model. There is no single race for this car on youtube.
Thank you.
I wish you could put an older fx50/qx70 5.0 in a race with these strong suv's, the hp/tq numbers match up with these.
Will try
I still wanna see him get a m56 … the fx50 is definitely more rare gonna be hard to find and the qx70 5.0 weren’t even made in north America
@@skid126both the fx/QX and the m56 are definitely rare vehicles, I bought my 09 fx50S about 1.5 years ago, it's now sitting at 290k miles and STILL hauls azz!!! 😂 🙏🏿
@@bigjoewebb hell yeah I got a m56x
An FX50 will win this race!
Switching drivers always for sure..thanks on that for saying it out loud !! Everyone needs to change drivers in all their videos
I've owned an X5, 3 BMW coupes, 4 Mustangs, Audi A5, and more.. My 2022 Ford Explorer is fantastic. Sticks to the road like gum to a chesterfield, corners like a cat on Velcro, and often surprises other drivers.
How much range on full gas tank?? It needs premium?? Gas tank size. Thank you. Looking for 7 seatwr myself
Can run on regular and range is 350 miles at 80 mph
I agree the 3.0 eco boost is a beast. Awesome acceleration pins you to your seat. Also well built and fun to drive. Kudos to Ford
I mean, the GV80 didn’t do that bad. Kept up pretty well actually despite being down on power
What happened to the timed runs?
I was about to say aint no way the ST losing like that. Driver Mod was needed. Lucky that ST aint tuned its a whole different beast!!!
Not driver mod - heat soaking. We stopped for a few minutes and it went back to normal
@SamCarLegion ahh gotcha. They need an intercooler. That heatsoak does pull alot of timing
Any forced induction automobile is a different car tuned duh lol, why do people act like only there cars can be tuned? 😂
don't forget it's not just a tooon. It's adding a lot more boost. No one ever says how much either.
naw. wife has the st and I have the type s. The st is quick, but that's IF the transmission doesn't mess up, cause it does often. 60k miles and it's been at the dealership longer than in our driveway. The amount of problems with STs is absolutely insane. No way I could own one after watching my wife go through her mess with it. Back up camera won't work, screen freezes and goes black, transmission just stops working intermittently. Car smells like sulfur. Cats have been replaced but are leaking again. Front camera replaced and recalibrated, still don't work. Alarms goes off randomly. It's quite the POS!
Just imagine if the MDX had 400Hp, it would have smoked the Explorer based on how good it kept up with very low Hp
The MDX Type S is faster than the GV80. Sam, we should have seen those run against each other first, then the ST that has quite a few more HP last.
We already filmed that race GV80 won.
@@SamCarLegionyou forgot your own Video? Lol the MDX Type S won the GV80
You are absolutely right - damn I have filmed too many lol
To the GV80's benefit, it weighs 300lbs more than the MDX and it rides on 22 inch wheels vs 21 inches on the MDX. It's also tuned for a relaxed, smooth operation. So the GV80 did remarkably well in keeping up with it.
@@philhenderson3516 you guys don’t say the same when the heavy TLX Type S loses against it’s competitors.
If opulence, luxury and refinement are what you desire, get the Aviator and you'll have more luxury and more juice than the Genesis. Keep in mind a fully loaded ST is going to run you $20k less than a fully loaded Genesis.
@@jdorf40the ford doesn’t have more luxury than genesis, not by a long shot. Genesis has wayyy more options and text than the Lincoln. But you will pay for it…
@@SiweLSiweL That's why I said get the Lincoln Aviator.
Yeah you’re comparing ford to a luxury car brand.
The only Fords I know to be luxurious are called Lincolns
Just wait until ZFG Racing enters the chat 💬
Right. I'm currently on ZFG E50 DMS and man!
@@XpolrerSTAwesome! Can’t wait until Bronco tuning opens up. Definitely going with their tune
Considering the explorer is way more spacious than the other two, I think that its performance is way more impressive comparatively.
I have the 2023 ST with an s&b cold air intake system and a borla catbak exhaust system and it is a BEAST. Puts out 440hp and screams. Hits 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds which is insane for a vehicle that heavy.
CAI and cat back add very little power and definitely not 40 more crank hp than the 400 crank HP stock. the factory ones are quite efficient.
93 tune and intercooler , however......add 80+ hp to the WHEELS
For all of us on your southern border, we'd love to see the ST and a Jeep SRT or a Durango SRT. The Mopar's are our real competition out here! And maybe a couple BMW X-M's.
The ecoboost explorers are what most Police Depts are using here in the States. They are really quick, and can take a beating!
in pa alot of them are just v6 no ecoboost but they are interceptor models
They use the na 3.5 V6. None use the high output 3.0 The older pre-2020 modes some had the sport pack which was the former 3.5 TT but theyre rare. The new ones dont use the 3.0TT.
Nah most of them use the 3.7 N/A v6 , most police departments don’t have the money to spend on twin turbo suvs 😂
I doubt it mate, only the Ford Crownvics with the 4.6L SOHC 2V Modular V8 can take a real beating, don't believe me then go watch Scotty Kilmer and he'll tell you the real truth about turbo engines ingeneral.
Duh. Because it's an American car of course they gonna used it. I bet many of them are unreliable and have issues bc it's a ford. But government keep buying more. Put more hp and tq on the acura I bet it will better then a ford
Can you put the X5 against the MDX?
Soon
any X5 will smoke it let alone the m50i or X5 M
Cheers! Great race! 🏁🏁🏁🏁
Thank you
Which one of these has more technology and better overall quality? I've been trying to figure out which one I'd pick if i had to get rid of my X5 M50. That X5 that didn't make the race would have made this more interesting.
I will like the see the ford explorer ST vs dodge durango RT I owned a ford explorer ST I love it 😃
Put a simple 93 tune on your ST and it will beat srt 392 Durango’s
Durango RT is slow than all those in the video
Why are the vehicles moving further apart instead of staying in a straight line?
Looks like ill be shopping the ST once the Grand Cherokee dies.
Aftermarket paddle shifters on the ST?
My first eco-boost engine experience, was in 2013 and I’ve never looked back. I love that engine. It’s a little monster.
If it's so good then how come Ford didn't put the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 in the Super Duty as a base gas engine?
@@CJColvin ask ford! For what I do, it’s all I need.
Awesome job ! Any chance of getting an ST line in the mix? I have one and realize it's not an ST but it would be fun to see the match up.
2.3L is much..much slower unfortunately. We took our 2.3L Limited rental to the track and it ran like a 15.3-15.7
@@Chris-rb8ri Holly Crap ! Really? I wish I knew of a track near me (Ft. Wayne) where I could run it a few times. Funny thing is this seems like a rocket ship compared to my old 2002 Explorer. Cannot believe how much more acceleration the ST-Line has compared to what I was used to.
Sam got lights!!! Great job!!
Yeah thanks
I built them myself
@@SamCarLegion Wow! You did great. The LEDs are nice and bright. Also, the timing of the lights, its much easier for drivers to launch their cars. Keep kicking ass!
Agreed
What's the source for the "Christmas Tree" starting lights? I'm not finding anything on the internet so far. I built a manually operated Christmas Tree with a friend back in the late 1970's for what became quite the drag racing phenom in Silicon Valley.
I own an explorer ST and I gap a lot sports vehicles in my area
You should post the curb weight along with the rest of the specs.
Used to have an Explorer Sport with a Livernois tune. That truck was a rocket, faster than a Porsche Cayenne GTS.
Lol what year cayenne
2017
those cayenne were only biturbo v6 440 hp...
So? @@sdmc1972
@@sdmc1972 but he beat it tho 💥
Good comparo and not surprised.I have watched vids on YT with guys that will tune them(they already fast)and run them at the track. They respond well to tuning and they are fast.Would be interested in adding a Durango R/T 5.7 or a 5.7 Cherokee or a Jeep SRT with the 6.4,or Durango not the hellcat, that is another league.Like this👍
A good addition would be a Mercedes GLE 43 AMG to the line up. It will do the same 0 to 60 as the Acura MDX Type-s.
X7
@@SamCarLegion Yes!!!
GLE 450 is more comparable price- and power-wise, GLE 53 AMG is like $100k.
also, maybe grand highlander 2.5 turbo hybrid vs CX90 Inline 6 turbo?
Yes sir!
Not shocking. Knew the Ford was going to run strong in that model
Type S, and ST are performance badges. Genesis doesn't have their performance line yet. Tho Hyundai has N, but in theur smaller cars
type s offers barely any performance
they FINALLY switched drivers. Thank God! Now I feel like I’m watching a proper race
I've got a focus st atm. And an Explorer St is looking mighty tempting.
Do you brake boost on the 0-60??? Type S has a launch control feature - use it. At least you id a manual 2nd gear roll race. And don't race these cars in NORMAL drive mode - it's just plain wrong.
Ok some wrong facts here:
Yes we do brake boost
MDX Type S doesn’t have launch control feature
We don’t race these cars in normal mode.
Cheers
The mdx type s does not have launch control.
Since it is a closed road, it would be great to get a top speed for each vehicle each race.
I have a 2020 and 2021 ST 1 for me and wife.
I want to see 40i x5 vs mdx type s vs ford Explorer ST
Thanks for adding quarter mile times good sir 👍
This just shows you how great the Honda engine is
Thanks for bringing up the ford explorer.
It’s hard to beat an ecoboost. Ford has been refining them over 10+ years. Would like to see a luxury suv drag race if u haven’t done it. Something where they’re all in the same price range if possible.
Yet the EcoBoost engines won't outlast the good ol' NA V8, if they're so good then how come Ford didn't put the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 in the Super Duty as a base gas engine?
@@CJColvin Nothing lasts forever. If you do proper maintenance they last a very long time. I was a hard core V8 guy for a long time - had a bunch of coyote 5.0 engines in my previous F150s. I test drove the Ecoboost and it just performs effortlessly and what closed the deal was all the torque available at a very low RPM. There's no replacement for "turbo charging". The 3.5 eco boost was designed from the ground up to be a twin turbo - I knew the quality engineer on the original program - it's a tough motor.
@@toddolson7273 Tell that to the new Broncos with the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 that are blowing up at very low miles, also has any EcoBoost engine last up to a million miles like the 4.7L I-Force V8 in the Toyota Tundra?
@@CJColvin Toyota is a follower company - nothing ever changes for years and when it does - it's always already proven technology. Keep your 20 year old tech...
@@toddolson7273 Yeah but at least Toyota has well proven technology unlike the stupid EcoBoost engines, name me one EcoBoost vehicle that made it to a million miles with its original engine?
Good line up!
Thank you
There's no reason for that explorer to have embarrassed the other two like that when they cost so much more.
Those aspec wheels look way better on the type s than the actual type s wheels, IMO.
wich part of ontario that doesnt have snow at all lmao.I just cameback from Kingston and its covered of snow everywhere.
unfortunately the weight from over 5000 lbs kills the performance from the GV80 😞, I think that the 2024 Coupe with over 400 HP performs better.
Winter tires too
@@SamCarLegion Ok yes that is not ideal but for this time in Canada it´s good to have on it.
What coupe?
@@JohnnyUtah9173is only the best looking Genesis ever. It got introduced a couple of months ago. On sale later this year.
@@JohnnyUtah9173 GV80 Coupe SUV
Awesome! Would like to see more of the explorer.
ST is fast but whats the point if it gonna break down in less than a year
A year? I'd been happy af to get a year without a problem out of my wife's ST!
Stop assuming it’s gonna break down just because it’s a ford
I have a bronco raptor with the same drivetrain and it’s been a year zero issues and hard off-road racing miles
@@Raptor_5.0the data is against you though. My wife's ST is garbage. I had a Mach 1 that ended up having a bad weld in the firewall, causing the suspension to flex and pop like crazy. Ford couldn't fix it, had to hire a lawyer to lemon law it. I test drove an aviator black label, same issues as the explorer. Screen doesn't work. Loud ass clunk from the crappy 10 speed. "Of 31 brands studied, the bottom four worst were Ford, Audi, Lincoln and Land Rover." I can respect that. My dad is on his second q5. Audi isn't much better.
@@lockheedload well not just me, I have family members and friends with ford trucks all of them over 200k miles and they have zero complaints
You probably got a bad apple out of the bunch or not keeping up with maintenance
@@lockheedloadodd I have had mine for 3 years with practically no issues. Other than a highway rattle on the driver side that turned out to be an easy fix.
That was a fantastic showcase. I own a 21 ST and love it, but it does have its downsides in ride quality. However, with a few mods and a tune, can easily push super high numbers with the ecoboost.
I’m sure the Acura will be last place Genesis in 1 place without finishing the video
Sam another great video 👍🙏🙏🙏
Thank you 🙌
The MDX has already been proven to be quicker than the GV80 lol. It did well against the ST
Honestly this was a big shock, I’ve said in other videos that glorified japenese cars are not there with performance against the Germans but now against an American car??? Had my cards on the type s for both but damn I was wrong . Good job ford I guess
the mdx is made in the usa and not exported or sold in japan. Type slow is just that
