By the time the GR Yaris homologation special would've been allowed to test, Toyota had run out of time to properly develop it for the 2021 season, which would've been its only competitive season anyway as the Rally1 regs were set to come in a year later. Toyota attempts to grant itself an exception as it wasn’t seeking to test its current car but its 2021 car. However the FIA stands firm and says no."_ These days, the teams build spaceframe chassis that they then turn into stuff that looks like the road cars, so not only is this the first proper homologation special story we've seen from the WRC in years, but it's likely to be the last one we see for a while.
The good thing is Toyota is currently developing a Rally2 version of the GR Yaris, production body (just like the old WRC regulation) & kept the 3cyl turbo engine as well (which was designed to be homologated for R5/Rally2 use).

WOW! In the UK in the early 90s,I owned a lancia delta hf turbo Martini ,it had loads of work done on the engine, we had to strap it down when it was put on the rolling road! It made 194 bhp which these days doesn't sound a lot, but believe me, it was an absolute weapon I've always had fast car's, but the delta is the one that stands out! So I can imagine how good the integrale is, I always wanted one, but now the prices are outrageous!
The very fact that the corolla is the fancy 'Morizo' edition with no back seats is still slower than the FWD Type R around a track just goes to show what engineering skills Honda has..and by the way , hats of to the Hagerty team for a top notch video...reminded me of the old UK Top gear days
And yet having driven a FWD Honda with lots of diesel torque, I would take AWD any day of the week. In fact, I wont be buying a Honda again, unless it is from the upper segment like the Accord.
I don't normally comment, but this video was so good, i have to commend you guys on the continued effort to produce world class videos. Amazing job guys...
What a superb story-telling. This is what quality content looks like. It entertains me while it educates me about the history and how it relates to today's hot-hatch icon. Keep up the good work!
No kidding, right? Someone give Esposito, Pobst and Cammisa a proper script and let them show the Fast and Furious guys how actual driving can be exciting as hell.
how in the heck can you guys keep pumping out masterpiece after masterpiece like this? Amazing job with the scripting, editing, sound design, shot framing, etc etc. A treat for the eyes and ears
As a GRY Performance pack owner since 2021 and having seen all videos on YT, this is by far the most entertaining and best quality. The Lancia was the cherry on the cake! The non performance GRY being so close to the GRC Morizo means that the perf pack one would probably beat it (especially with Cup2 tires).
as a USA viewer, i really hope you give your yaris as much love and cherish you can for all of us over here that would have loved a 3 door hottest hatch version.

i just comment about that too. people notice how pro's this is. its like watching a movie where the scene is so good you dont realized all the angle they shoot at
I've had my GRC Core for about three months now, and I have to say, it's the happiest I've ever been with a daily driver. It's pretty much the perfect "good in every climate/season, fun on the weekends, decent enough city driving during the week" car. Toyota did a really great job.
I picked up my is500 about 4 weeks ago now, I love it, but when I got to the dealer to pick it up there was a GR Corolla parked next to it getting delivered the same day, I was a bit jealous.
@@svang1991 I mean there's usually a lot of stray/random cars at dealerships. And given how premium of a product the GR Corolla is I think it makes sense that it was getting delivered at a Lexus dealership.
@@85CEKR I get it! I daily a significantly modded Chevy SS and I really want a GR Corolla to move to daily driver status. Something about the little car that's faster than it should be.
I rarely comment, but this is truly a masterpiece. Jason and his team have truly captured the ethos of Toyota’s GR dream through stunning videography and Cammisa’s in-depth analysis. I have watched a lot of car videos on UA-cam, but few if any truly top this one; keep up the good work.
PLEASE do not ever stop making these videos Jason and Randy. Exceptionally delivered, very informative and some LOL's...I can not wait for the next one... Give them both a massive increase!!!
Like comparisons in other countries it’s hard to compare apples with apples due to the huge differences in tyre ability. The circuit pack GR Yaris comes with pilot sport 4S tyres that make a huge difference on their own. I know they can only test what they have but, I’d love to see this test again with everything on the same rubber. Great video and very enjoyable to watch.
Seems like a no-brainer... If you want to compare the cars isolate the variables as much as you can. Comparison with different tires does not give us the most useful information possible.
Fun fact - the team of engineers responsible for the Delta, in 1992 was moved to work on Alfa 155 DTM, which won the first year it went against new competitors. Than they worked on the Alfa Romeo 156. The 156 uses the same rear suspension as the Delta (only the Q4 version of 155 used something similar while other 155 models were just Fiat Tempras) but also a double wishbone fron suspension. So the closest you can get to a Delta Integrale but on the cheap, is Alfa 156 Crosswagon Q4. It also uses very similar 4 wheel drive system but has a 150 hp Alfa JTD diesel that can eat additional power like no other
Everyone hates to announce one of the best automakers in business, Honda. The pinnacle of racing is F1 and Honda is always holding the crown of F1. Not even Porsche, McLaren, BMW, Lambos, etc dear claim the title. They all are trying to knock Honda off the thrown in F1. This is why I always find if funny how people say Honda can't make good cars. They just make cars trying to fit into the segment. Even if they released exotic super cars that are great, people still have an issue with them because it has a Honda badge.

These Hagerty comparo tests with Cammisa and Pobst are solid gold. Their crew is amazing and the video footage is outstanding. I wish they did more, but i know so much work is involved in making a 20 minute video. Thanks guys.
As an Italian I can only say thank you for the amazing tribute to our beloved Deltona. That said, Toyota is making some crazy sports cars (and not just sports ones), but the new Civic Type R is also great, in fact you demonstrated it frame after frame in a fantastic way. However, I'm still too much in love with my Giulia Veloce to sell it and switch to a Civc Type R.
The times the Corolla and the Civic put down are absolutely mindblowing when compared to the Ferrari. Who would've thought this was possible several years ago. Also, appreciate how much time was dedicated in the video just for getting the cars sideways!

Hands down, the best produced car video I've watched on UA-cam, goose bumps throughout the whole video and just made me wanna drive one of these so bad. Congratulations to the whole team 🤩
Awesome video. Should have tested the GR Yaris with the Circuit Pack though, it´s a different beast with three torsen differentials compared to the one with the open differentials you reviewed. Also has forged wheels and better brakes.
Yeah, with the full rally diffs and stickier tyres the full fat Yaris would have kept up with the Corolla easily. And tuning the engine to get more power is a much easier option than trying cut weight from the Corolla. But as the US don't get the Yaris, let them think the Corolla's better! 😅
Totally agree with you Antonio. From the tests I saw, the difference between the GRY with and without the Circuit Pack is so huge. With the Circuit Pack (I have two of them in my garage) it's really an ultimate rally car adapted to the road, and it's actually the base for the GRY Rally2. It would have won the comparison hands down, no doubt about it
Yeah, Motor Trend is a horridly lame rag with an agenda. I let my subscription lapse because even at $14 per year, it was a complete waste of money. Hagerty insurance is worth it just for their magazine, which is heads above all the other car mags except Classic and Sports Car, which here in the US, is about 8 times the price of Motor Trend, and still worth every penny. Jason Cammisa and Pobst are awesome, and Jason's great with Derek on the Carmudgeon Show.
The Yaris GR is the most sensational car I've ever driven. And I have owned a Porsche 997 GTS and currently drive an M2 Competition. I rented the little Yaris for a weekend and it was more fun than those two combined, for less than half the money...
@timwattison4419 even with the new gr corolla coming out next year the power will only equal the mk2 gr yaris. Same power from both cars, gr yaris all the way. Can't beat weight
I have never seen such an enjoyable car video... The script, the camera angles, the music, the editing, and last but not least, the cars are fantastic. Hagerty needs a huge raise, HUGE!!!! ❤
I'm from Germany and my brother drives and own a GR Yaris with the Performance package. The car is impassable and not fast at the track without the locking differentials in the front and rear. The Performance package modell has the locking differentials in front and rear, stronger brakes, brake cooling and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. With this set up on the track, it's just as fast as the GR Corolla. Thank you to all of the team for the great video! We all must celebrate these kind of cars. I drive a Subaru BRZ from 2017, my brother the GR Yaris. Let‘s hope that we will get more cars like these in the future😎

Another stunning production. Incredible to see the Delta keeping up (after being breathed on) with latest & greatest. Only wish they had been on control tires!
great video as always but as a GRY owner I don't think it's a fair comparison for you to not use the same tires as the corolla on the Yaris. That makes such a huge difference. You could have swapped on the same tires and did a separate comparison, showing both the stock and a upgraded(not really) performance.
Not to mention it's the same pace as the corolla with less power... on the same motor. We all know what that means when it comes to tune time. It would have been interesting to see just how much the weight really matters when it has same diff, same brakes, same power. It's probably barely anything and the corolla can stand on it's own by being more practical by being slower around a track by 0.5s or whatever it would actually be.
As someone new to the world of cars, this was like a beautiful documentary. While learning historical contexts, progression in products and the story while also finally discussing & reviewing the current cars. Very informative as a whole. I really hope this video wasn't the peak and there are more videos like this from this or other channels. If not, its gonna be a long learning process.
Good video, but maybe not fair to compare the Morizo Corolla to the base GR Yaris. In Japan you can buy more extreme versions of the Yaris, which would have been a better comparison. Still, it's great that Toyota are actually producing interesting cars again.
They recently even made a Sebastian Ogier & Kalle Rovanpera (their two recent WRC Champs) edition of GR Yaris with a little bit of tuning on the transmission side.
They couldn’t test regular Circuit edition because it was broken. And they couldn’t get any better Yaris from Mexico. Rather unfortunate but still better then not having either of the cars for the video.
@@strght6 I took it more of ‘describing differences’ so we can understand the results. To many people just think these types of videos are comparisons but it’s very difficult to near impossible to get ‘the same cars’. Yes, and PLEASE keep up the wide cinematic aspect ratio! Looks fantastic filling up my whole ultrawide monitor or phone :)
Just goes to show how much SH-AWD on an Integra Type-S would make it wipe the floor with its competition.
@@AEsmondeProductions hmm it may be abit heavier with all the luxuries but it will be interesting to see the outcome
Imagine if it was 4 cylinder 😮!
Yes... also would have been interesting to see a DCT Golf R with comparably sticky tires on it for the track time leaderboard.
And yet having driven a FWD Honda with lots of diesel torque, I would take AWD any day of the week. In fact, I wont be buying a Honda again, unless it is from the upper segment like the Accord.
The editor, shot director, and the director deserves all the applause. You know what just give all the team applause. Such a great quality video
It feels like a movie, what an amazing video. Congratulations mr Jason, keep bringing us amazing content!
No kidding, right? Someone give Esposito, Pobst and Cammisa a proper script and let them show the Fast and Furious guys how actual driving can be exciting as hell.
Multi million $ idea. Hopefully they read our comments
how in the heck can you guys keep pumping out masterpiece after masterpiece like this? Amazing job with the scripting, editing, sound design, shot framing, etc etc. A treat for the eyes and ears
As a GRY Performance pack owner since 2021 and having seen all videos on YT, this is by far the most entertaining and best quality. The Lancia was the cherry on the cake! The non performance GRY being so close to the GRC Morizo means that the perf pack one would probably beat it (especially with Cup2 tires).
as a USA viewer, i really hope you give your yaris as much love and cherish you can for all of us over here that would have loved a 3 door hottest hatch version.
Now what if you added those Cup 2s to the CTR…
@@muskistutter Their CTR probably had Cup 2s on it. It's an option in the US.
5.4 seconds is not close but I agree on the point. Performance Yaris is much quicker and with Cup2s it would be on par with Morizo.
@@muskistutter what if the Morizo had 265 wide Cup 2 tires like the CTR?
I love the way these videos are choreographed. Jason and Randy are amazing!!
Every time cammisa drops a video, It is an instant watch. Well appreciated hagerty team and jason. Great content, directing and editing.
Edit: Forgot the script, Amazing !
i just comment about that too. people notice how pro's this is. its like watching a movie where the scene is so good you dont realized all the angle they shoot at
I've had my GRC Core for about three months now, and I have to say, it's the happiest I've ever been with a daily driver.
Why the hell was a Lexus dealer selling a GR Corolla?
@@svang1991 I mean there's usually a lot of stray/random cars at dealerships. And given how premium of a product the GR Corolla is I think it makes sense that it was getting delivered at a Lexus dealership.
@@85CEKR I get it! I daily a significantly modded Chevy SS and I really want a GR Corolla to move to daily driver status. Something about the little car that's faster than it should be.
Aka ford focus RS
I rarely comment, but this is truly a masterpiece. Jason and his team have truly captured the ethos of Toyota’s GR dream through stunning videography and Cammisa’s in-depth analysis. I have watched a lot of car videos on UA-cam, but few if any truly top this one; keep up the good work.
Thank you!
@@JasonCammisa Thank you Jason for your passion for cars.
I dearly missed these VS. The editing is top tier and your narration, makes me want to listen to you in slow mo. Hats off!
PLEASE do not ever stop making these videos Jason and Randy. Exceptionally delivered, very informative and some LOL's...I can not wait for the next one... Give them both a massive increase!!!
Suck them off already
Like comparisons in other countries it’s hard to compare apples with apples due to the huge differences in tyre ability. The circuit pack GR Yaris comes with pilot sport 4S tyres that make a huge difference on their own. I know they can only test what they have but, I’d love to see this test again with everything on the same rubber. Great video and very enjoyable to watch.
Yeah. I see no reason why the circuit pack GR Yaris should be any slower than the Corolla. It got a little less power but its also lighter.
Seems like a no-brainer... If you want to compare the cars isolate the variables as much as you can.
Comparison with different tires does not give us the most useful information possible.
Yeah and most importantly , limited-slip differentials front and rear, along with lighter wheels and slightly hard suspension. Not just tyres….
It also uses very similar 4 wheel drive system but has a 150 hp Alfa JTD diesel that can eat additional power like no other
This feels like an old Top Gear episode. Bravo to you all for making this on youtube of all places.
The fact that the CTR almost tied the 458 is just inconceivable
Everyone hates to announce one of the best automakers in business, Honda. The pinnacle of racing is F1 and Honda is always holding the crown of F1. Not even Porsche, McLaren, BMW, Lambos, etc dear claim the title. They all are trying to knock Honda off the thrown in F1. This is why I always find if funny how people say Honda can't make good cars. They just make cars trying to fit into the segment. Even if they released exotic super cars that are great, people still have an issue with them because it has a Honda badge.
@@wanglee21 I want to like Honda so bad but they need something beyond just the Civic Si/TR. Give me a ITS with SH-AWD and/or a DCT and I'll order one yesterday!
@@mattlittlej I totally agree. I'm a Subaru fanboy for over 12yrs now because of the practicality of its AWD.
Yea but FR sucks and most don't track. FR Wheel hopping annoying as fug, it turns corners surprisingly well but... it feels dirty.....I prefer AWD all day. I can say this because I own 21' CTR and 21' STI. If CTR had STI's awd and the rumbles...man that would be perfecto!!!
Maybe you forget Honda have F1 engine with red bull and they are leader in F1
i dont usually comment but that intro was extremely well shot. well done guys!
I had NO idea how insane those lancias sounded Christ what a machine
They were considered the fastest point-to-point car in the world back in the day

It's not stock.
It' s far from stock and pushed via Rally crosscutting editing to a not normal exhaust sounding. This engine normally is far from sound like a race engine.
@@playtimehulot7383 Classics Italian four cylinders used to sound very good. The FIAT 125 with the DOHC engine sounds great.

What is there to say... Great Cars, Great Drivers, Great story telling. It's just greatness overload whenever Hagerty gets Mr. Cammisa and Mr. Pobst have fun with the cars. Just when we think we've seen the best episode, they outdo themselves on the next! THANK YOU HAGERTY TEAM!
Hey guys.. the data on the Icons leaderboard stated that the corolla morizo should be in third. The time for the corolla is 1:22:09 which is quicker than the civic…
Check earlier I think there it says 1:22.94.
The 1.22.09 seems to be a typo. Very unusual for them to make such a mistake
They swapped in the time for the Supra GR 😅
If you watch the video with subtitles (you should, as there are funny bits added to them), it acknowledges the typo on the Morizo's time.
Hands down the best car related content on UA-cam. Fantastic video loved every minute of it!
Another mind-blowingly entertaining AND informative film by the Camissa / Esposito dream team. Loved the historical timeline... (and that you guys assemble all the cars that are part of the story, no matter how small a part they play.)
Thank you! Keep watching and we’ll keep making more!
Lancia Delta Integrale is my favourite hot hatch of all time, can't get enough of it
Its a great car but can someone explain how it won wrc 6 times in a row?? 3:42 Didnt Carlos Sainz senior won in a toyota celica in 1990 and 92?

These Hagerty comparo tests with Cammisa and Pobst are solid gold. Their crew is amazing and the video footage is outstanding. I wish they did more, but i know so much work is involved in making a 20 minute video. Thanks guys.
Per usual Jason delivers yet another masterpiece
Jason is an entertaining automotive genius, so much fun and information, i can't miss any of his episodes
The GR Yaris (circuit pack) should be the one compared to the GRC Morizo - no point comparing the base model GRY IMO
Definitely not a fair comparison ! Totally agree with you
The problem is the tires , the corolla are using michelin pilot sport 4s , and the yaris base model are using the dunlop
@@SNZRACINGTEAM not just the tyres, the LSD's are missing. CP Yaris will destroy Corolla.
The Corolla was so fast it can even take you in a different timeline! It's sunny outside, but inside you can see raining! Awesome!
I can't imagine life without these videos now. Please, please never stop doing this. But if I'm honest, I could wish for 1 thing. Shod all the cars with the same Cup2 tires at the end and show us how they perform with the playing field leveled.
Good Lord, Hagerty's content with Jason at the helm just keep getting better and better.

The Civic Type R got even better when you thought it couldn't. The Ring Time it just set, and now this is just astonishing.
Really wish we got the GRY in the US, they’re so cool
sure, but i think they were happy to get atleast a single on e to test there in the US :D
Thimk the same . And the stiffer suspension too. Brakes are the same in both, only change the color of the calipers, thats the only difference
It would have won the comparison hands down, no doubt about it
I’ve drooled on cars before but the GR Corolla is legitimately my dream car. I couldn’t ever possibly want anything more. So awesome.
Any video that Cammisa has his hands in, keeps me on the edge of my seat like it's the most exciting movie I've ever seen. Legend!

Bringing back those motor-trend memories before it went down the drain. The Jason and Randy duo never disappoints.

@timwattison4419 even with the new gr corolla coming out next year the power will only equal the mk2 gr yaris. Same power from both cars, gr yaris all the way. Can't beat weight

Absolutely art! This is my favorite episode! I really feel like someone actually hired the perfect crew. Thank you for this!
That slow-mo Golf R drift shot was HOT

These years are turning in to years.
I never understood why people still hang on to old top gear. One day soon I hope people can enjoy car content like this without people ALWAYS comparing it to top gear. Let’s move on now please
@@PigglyWigglyDeluxe I know, right. This comparison gets so stale. Every car youtube channel you go to, some guy in the comment section has to compare with Top Gear. Almost a meme by now. Same as every content creator seems to be the Bob Ross of whatever genre he/she is presenting on.

What an amazing documentary and a great tribute to the Hot hatch, my eyes were glued from start to finish. Gives me very old Top Gear documentary vibes. Keep up the good work Hagerty!
As a fellow GR Yaris owner I agree! This wasn't a fair comparison
It's not even a circuit/performance pack model. 9 out of 10 GRYs on the road are performance models and they somehow found one without it...
He uses the stock tires, however it would have been better to use the model with the LSD
They recently even made a Sebastian Ogier & Kalle Rovanpera (their two recent WRC Champs) edition of GR Yaris with a little bit of tuning on the transmission side.
near the end Jason says this is NOT a comparison test
They couldn’t test regular Circuit edition because it was broken. And they couldn’t get any better Yaris from Mexico. Rather unfortunate but still better then not having either of the cars for the video.
@@brownwhale5518 that's true, but he also compared them in many different ways 😆

I took it more of ‘describing differences’ so we can understand the results.
To many people just think these types of videos are comparisons but it’s very difficult to near impossible to get ‘the same cars’. Even many racing classes with all their rules still fail to get ‘exactly even cars’.
