People *were* buying them - but even in the US, there are a finite number of people willing to keep rolling negative equity into new loans. Eventually, the market gets saturated. Housing will be next.

They have to, they don’t own those vehicles outright, they have loans on the vehicles, if they sell for a significant loss they still have to pay their creditors the difference owed on this loans with interest, they don’t have a lot of wiggle room on the price of the cars, their profit margins on the cars are actually pretty low a lot of the time, they make most of their money on financing the vehicle to you in house and all the other dealership markups on the car, the vehicle itself doesn’t make them very much profit to begin with.
@@Justin-f7fI used to sell cars and you’re right for the most part. Dealerships make their money in the “back end” of these car deals. For example: wheel and tire packages, extended warranty, oil change packages, etc. They also make a ton of money on the interest of in house financing because you pay way more for the car when financing.
I'm with ya and it's sad. I'm a long life Toyota fan until they went nuts with size and prices of their trucks, along with an engine that blew up in them, something that I thought I would never see. My last two Toyotas were an '84 diesel and the Tacoma when it came out in '95, an extra cab version, beautiful and tough truck. Neighbor behind me bought a new Tundra when they came out, same thing, good looking and tough. When did all of this change? Being retired for the last 12 years and out of the new car market, it baffles me. My now second wife bought a '17 Buick Envision after being T-boned in her '12 Cruze and not hurt. It now has 110 grand on it with not one iota of a problem since bought, and of all things, it was at least assembled in Shanghai, China in a GM plant they built over there. If I had known that I would have tried to talk her out of it, but now I'm glad I didn't, being surprised that this car is as good as it is. Why can't they build one over here that will do that like they used to? I guess one thing, greed and not wanting to pay their workers a decent wage, and it's gonna bite them in the butt. John Deere has found out the hard way, luckily for them the hadn't started building their plant in Mexico yet, that 200% increase in a tariff would have totally killed all sales of their products in this country and they damn well know it, thank you very much, President Trump, keep up the good work and turn this country upside down and shake all of the greedy Demorats out of it or break them, sounds good to me...

even 25k is like...that's a bit of a strain on the typical service industry wage. I think it's closer to 15k as a managable load payment but there's zero cars these days that are going to leave a lot for less than 20, well new cars. Obviously used, depending on where you go, you might find someone just wanting to give you the nicest car ever cause their parent died and they don't want to deal with it (seen that before!)....

Here in south Florida. 2-4 year old vehicles are the exact same price as a brand new one. But then they offer you almost nothing for a trade. It’s crazy.
The fact that they can discount 15-20k off the price tag shows just how much fluff is getting stacked on top of these new vehicles and how much markup they're hoping to make. Strip out all the giant iPad screens, extra sensors, useless Baja racing packages, and give us a normal work truck for 30K and we'll think about it.
Definitely a good point. I have a 2023 Subaru Outback wilderness and I love it besides all the tech: the iPad, sensors, Subaru eyesight, I wish it didn’t have any of it.
The screens are cheaper than buttons, objectively. Even if it was only infotainment and a few electronics it controlled, screens are far cheaper than manual controls because they can consolidate more functions of the vehicle.

I remember during Covid every dealership in my area had the market adjustment markup, none were willing to budget if you needed to look at a vehicle… those same dealerships are now asking 50-90k for a pickup truck but their inventory has been sitting for months & months… dealers are starting to find out how hard it is for the average joe.
As a frugal saver who doesn’t believe in borrowing, US is terrible. All it takes is an injury or sickness. Then your fucked by medical. Can’t work. US citizens need to learn to be more frugal and stop borrowing for absolutely everything. Then maybe the banks will adapt to you. I am 61 and have purchased 4 vehicles in my lifetime. Starting with a '69 Bronco when I graduated high school in 1981, a 1974 High boy, a 1997 F350 4x4 and 2003 Town car. I still own all 4 and drive them on a regular basis and they have served me well. Instead of buying anything new, I will stick with what I have.
I've owned 9 new Ford F150's (or less than 10k miles at time of purchase) in 33 years. I used these as work trucks. I worked hard to keep the trucks in good condition, and I worked even harder at time of trade-in to find the absolute best deal. The fruits of my labor put me in the upper trim levels of Platinums and Limiteds. Over the past 10 yrs, Ford's quality is definitely spiralling downward! For example, my 2013 Platinum had the top end turbos completely rebuilt 2 times within the 100k warranty! Right now, I'm in a 2021 Platinum Powerboost Hybrid. I have lost count, but I think there are between 20 and 25 recalls for various crap on this high-end flagship F150! Sticker price is around $93k for this fully loaded truck in Dec, 2024. Trade-in that the Stealership is willing to give is around $8 to $10,000 below where it ought to be. I will never buy another new Ford at these prices! I put an extended warranty on what I've got, and plan on driving it to the ground. My 30+ years of loyalty to Ford is over!

It’s all the stuff that gets added to the car. Even base model cars come with a lot of standard stuff now. Plus, they’re practically computers on wheels. Don’t even get me started on performance technology. Add in sport suspension, active anti roll, performance tires, electronically controlled differential, etc, and you’re looking at a very expensive car. There’s also inflation, that’s a big one. Because people don’t buy cars that often throughout their life, they don’t see the effect of inflation on car prices until it’s 10 years worth all at once. $89k is equivalent to around $66k back in 2015. That’s definitely still an expensive car, but if that’s where your bench mark is, you’ll be totally blindsided
A lot of this has to do with epa regulations and incentives. Efficient cars get subsidies that keep them sub 40k. Trucks, sports cars and luxury cars do not and simply absorb all the extra overhead.
First it was the car market crash of 2023, then 2024. Now it's the car market crash of 2025. I'm still waiting for this so-called "crash". And I'm still waiting for prices to come down. Someone is still buying these over-priced vehicles, because the high prices remain.
They may as well start pricing the vehicles for several million dollars each. The numbers don't matter anymore because not only are prices now well beyond the reach of the average consumer, the prices are also too high to finance. Nobody wants to carry a mortgage on a vehicle.

This is exactly why the used market is still holding up so well. The OP does not have a clue. Even a 30% discount on a new 100k truck is still 70k. That same 3 year old used truck is still 50k or more.
I live in a small town. We have two name brand deslerships. Stock is usually thin, with the majority of inventory being used vehicles. I noticed for the last month or two, both dealerships have had lots PACKED with new vehicles, and almost no used inventory. Prices are nucking futs. A base model taco for $45k. Imagine that sticker price for a Chevy S10. No shot anyone in the market for a 1/4 ton truck is gonna pay $40k+ for one. That's what my current loaded options full size v8 truck cost new. I just put $5k into that truck this summer rebuilding the engine myself and handling a ton of maintenance items that most neglect. Until prices come down, used inventory isn't going to change, and everything is priced out of my sanity range. I don't buy new. Even when prices weren't insane, I wasn't willing to be the guy to lose $5k+ before even getting the plate put on. I'll buy it gently used with a few miles on it and let someone else take the depreciation hit. Now, the depreciation value of signing on the line for a new ride is dancing around $20k. Fuck that. A hundred grand for a soccer mom SUV and a diesel work truck? That's two more mortgages on top of a mortgage that's double/triple what it used to be. People can't afford a 4x+ on monthly payments. The market is disgusting.

In the future, I am considering getting rid of the car before the warranty expires or getting an extended warranty only if backed by the manufacturer. The cost of repairs, particularly electronic failure, is just out of control. I need to replace the ABS module for my 2014 Honda Accord. The part alone is $2100, only 88K miles, and It is well-maintained. For Honda Reman transmission $7-8k. In addition, when you get it repaired, there is no guarantee of quality workmanship. In summary, the new age of vehicle ownership is about screwing the consumer. What will correct this problem is a combination of consumers not buying overpriced cars and competition from China producing cheaper quality cars. Possible EVs have fewer parts and less to break down.

I'm 21 and was looking for a house and a car. I'm at my parents but have lived on my own for 2 years, and only recently had to move back in due to financial troubles. I legitimately have no idea how I'm ever going to afford to have the life I want or to move forward with my life with how exorbitant these prices are. Buy a car from a private seller cash only. You own it outright. Find a good trustworthy mechanic and have the car fixed up. Dont get caught up with a nice fancy car. They are headaches and a big bill. Y You can get a double wide mobile home under $75k and make it luxury over time. Be wise with your money and ask plenty of questions and research research research. DIY is best to save money. God bless you young man.
Save as much money as humanly possible with your parents. Idk if you already have a career path but start working on that as well. Go into a trade if you have to.
If your employer offers a 401K, then start contributing to it right now. Usually the employer will match your input up to 4%, sometimes even more. Also, start a Roth IRA and put in as much as you can.....you pay taxes on it right away, so then years later when you take distributions, you don't pay taxes because you already did. Also, learn to work on your own car, if you can. Even small things like oil changes will help you to save money to put in your Roth IRA.
Do not buy. Fix your existing pickup if possible. If not, purchase a 2nd hand pickup. Do not buy at these crazy prices. If you have to, wait until late Feb 2025.
Having driven every single make,model, and trim level of modern truck I can confidently say not a single one is worth $100k. I can say maybe 3 at the highest level trim could be worth $70k but that’s the absolute most they should ever be worth and that’s a generous price
I've rebuilt my 2006 Corolla, manual trans, no cruise, no ABS, manual locks/windows, no traction control, simple A to B car. Fuel efficient easy to work on. I'll keep rebuilding it until part are impossible to get.

Every car I ever bought has been used, cash, driven 10-15 years. Probably spent well less than half what most people do, allowed me to invest that difference and retire early.
When I was young I would buy used cars with low mileage. I 'd pay it off in 3 years and acted like I still had those same payments and save that money. Saved enough to pay cash for my next car. Also when ever I got raise at work I would invest it. I was used to living on what I made. I don't want payments. Retired now and my husband and I were able to pay house off. No car notes either. He still works but I want him to retire next year to travel some.
In 2016, I bought my modest 925 square foot brick home at $96,000 (at 3.25%) that sits on a large yard in a great neighborhood. Now cars cost half of the price of my home then, but my wages haven't changed since 2016. This economy is wiiiild!
I'm a lot older than you at 79 I bet, but I bought my 1300 sq ft brick home in '90, put a lot of improvements and remodeling in it like a one car garage to a bedroom, total kitchen redo, total new windows and doors, metal roof installed, and now with seven solar panels that actually make that 15$ electric bill, and now this 30 grand home is floating around the 210 grand range. Do I wanna sell it? H-ll no, like an old aunt of mine once said, they are gonna carry me outta here feet first on a gurney to the grave. Why would I sell my dream home even though it ain't a mansion, when I have a lot a sweat and blood of my own in getting it to this stage. Honda has already gone downhill. I was on a Honda lot two days ago and nearly HALF their vehicles had stickers on them saying they can't be sold as they were DANGEROUS to drive awaiting a recall! The two I looked at....one the tailgate wouldn't open that was on a pilot and the other was a CRV and it sat on thevlot so long that rats or squirrels had eaten the wiring and plastic engine covers. These were 2025 NEW cars. I wouldn't even test drive their cars. I saw Ho da CIVICS with sticker prices OVER 50 thousand dollars! I liked the Sudaru Forrester but the MSRP was well over 40 grand....for a compact SUV!

When I test drove it the acceleration seemed off but the sales person said she didn't notice anything and you will get used to it. This car ended up hesitating so bad it was dangerous. The dealer lies through their teeth. I had junked my old car for the same thing after paying $900 to try and fix it. The govt agencies are all in on it. Fight the dealer hard. One dealer threatened to get security.
I just put a new front end in my 1997 toyota Camry with 285,000 miles on it. Two new axles, ball joints, shocks , inner and outer tie rods and links. And front torsion bar. It was a pain in the /\$$ and took about two days maybe three. Total cost ? Under $600 for the parts. The first I have ever done it. The slop I thought was in the transmission was the passenger side front axle. It was warn out. The transmission is tight no slop. The car rides and drives great. Best part about it……….no car payment👍. I think driving clappers will come back in style😎🤘🏿!

This costs more than my car is worth, and it’s an estimate not a quote, so who knows what I could end up spending. Been looking at buying a new Chevy trax (hearing mixed reviews, but in my budget). @@PotatoPunchers well the thought on value is subjective. You have two different values. You have the value that everybody else puts on it. What you can sell it for and what the value is to you. If you're going to fix the car up and sell it then the repairs are not worth it because you're not going to get your money back. If you're going to fix it up and drive it now the value is whatever you decide it is and quite honestly for me the value is quite high because if the car is paid off I don't have a monthly payment going out. I know my car so I know what I've done to it. I know how it runs. I know how I can trust it so I have the value of peace of mind. I have the value of knowing its ability. I also have the value of not having that overhead payment out every month. Whether I can afford it or not. Things on the vehicle can be repaired can be fixed so I would pay that whatever it took to fix that you're looking at a rebuilt engine. Anyway, from what I understand from your description so you're going to have a new engine that's not bad. The value of that is pretty good now. Let's put this into perspective on a car if you're going to trade it in or buy another car now. You've got a down payment. You got a monthly payment that's going to be between $600 and $1,000. You have your insurance on top of that which can be quite high and then you have in my state. It cost me $1,400 to have my vehicle registered. That's a chunk of money. So just in the cost of registration I almost would have the cost of the engine replacement alone. Then you add on top of that the down payment okay. Now I'm already at the engine replacement and probably beyond it. And if I buy a used vehicle I usually have to replace brakes or tires within a month or two. That's been what has always happened to me. So now you can add that cost on top of it. So we're looking at $3,000 just to get a new vehicle and that's not even a brand new that's just new to me vehicle and that's a cost that's up front right off the bat. So yeah fixing it up is cheaper. Keeping your older vehicles can be a lot cheaper so in your case based on just what you've posted there I would fix it up. If that's the only thing that's going wrong with it majorly I would fix it up. Even if the transmission was out with it, I'd still fix it up because the overall cost of buying a new vehicle was outstrip what you already have many times over just in interest rate and purchasing another vehicle and yes I do know and understand there are times when you do need to get a new vehicle that the headache and the problems getting your old vehicle fixed can be greater than the headache and the cost of getting a new vehicle. Especially when you find shops that won't work on them or when you can't get major components because the manufacturer won't sell them and nobody manufactures parts for that vehicle cvt transmissions are one of those components that other people other companies won't manufacture and no transmission shop that I'm aware of will rebuild them
@@Jason1Pa Yes I get what you're saying. There are times when keeping your older vehicle just isn't feasible. It's not possible. You can't get parts for it. I had a 1978 Dodge 3/4 ton truck that I finally let go. After having the engine redone and a lot of other work done on it. I let it go because I couldn't get an instrument panel for it. I could get instrument panels made for Canada but not for the US and any time. I went to a salvage yard and I found a truck that was compatible. The instrument panel had the same problems or was gone so yes, I do understand that there are times when you can't keep something but that kind of goes for anything. I'm not saying that you should keep your vehicle forever. I'm saying don't get rid of it. When you have a problem weigh out the the cost and I'm not talking about the financial cost. I'm also talking about what's it going to cost you in the long run. How much is it going to cost you to get a new vehicle registered in my state? That's about $1,400 on the low end for a used vehicle. Or at least that's been my experience and then there's the the headache of finding a vehicle finding one you want, finding one that does what you want, find anyone that doesn't have major problems already dealing with the dealership or the person you're buying it from because they don't want you taking it to go get it inspected things like that. Oftentimes fixing your old vehicle is far more beneficial, far more cost effective and in the long run even far more piece of mind. You already know that vehicle you're comfortable with it. You know what it's capable of doing. You know what it's quirks are so fixing up a transmission. Fixing up an engine. Having some major work done such as a radiator or something like that replaced is worth it now. You will find some shops that won't do work on certain vehicles cuz they deem it not worth it so always find several mechanics and talk to them. If they would be willing to work on your car, what would be the biggest headache problem and would they be willing to do it and then you know that if you have that problem you know you can't get it fixed or what it's going to cost or take to get it fixed. My mom had a car that had a water pump that was driven by the timing belt. It was difficult to find a shop that would be willing to tear into the vehicle that far to replace the water pump if it ever went out. When her water pump finally did go out, she decided that another vehicle would be better than fixing that one and it wasn't because of the cost it was. Basically she couldn't find anybody that would do it because of the detail and requirement and how long they would have to have the vehicle. Not only that my sister gave her a vehicle so that kind of sealed that question for too that My body on this is fix it up if you can my wife's vehicle. The engine went out in it. We're going to look into getting it fixed. The vehicles paid off. It's already registered. We don't have to pay for all of that we just have to have the engine replaced and even after replacing the engine the value is still going to be greater for us to keep it than it would be to get rid of it and go buy another vehicle
@@ecaybuy some tools and fix it yourself. The benefits of an older used car being cheaper is only if you can keep it out of the mechanic. Buying the parts and installing them yourself is the real money saver
I remember when you could buy a used pickup for $3,000 and it would run for years. I have a 2012 F-150 and it's literally horrific trying to keep it running. Every other week it's something else, then I spend my weekends replacing parts just to have to do it again in a couple weeks. For a 2016 F-150 there are some dealers asking $24,000. Man, how times have changed. I can't even (nor would) pay $70,000+ for a new truck, especially when quality has gone significantly downhill.
2 years ago my car was repoed, I lost the ability to pay when my rent at the time increased $600 a month, Utilities went full psycho and drastically increased, Car insurance doubled (I have a clean driving record) and the price of groceries all became to much to handle.

Funny, in 2018-2019 every Toyota guy would tell you to buy older models as well because the 2010's were all trash. They haven't been over built and truly reliable since the late 90's.
The last time I bought a car was 2010, I spent $13k for a little Hyundai Accent. This year I looked at vehicles and was shocked at the price. A vehicle costs more than my first house! I opted for a small previously leased vehicle but still paid almost double the price of my new car in 2010!
You would have to make ~200k/yr to come close to comfort and sleep without worrying about your finances, assuming your goal is to save some money for the future. Depending on what part of the country you live in after taxes, 200K is not much if you have a mortgage, living expenses, and kids. Try not to live paycheck to paycheck; I know it is not easy for many ppl, but don't add to the pain by buying things you truly can't afford. The mentality for many ppl is to buy now and worry about how to afford it later. There was a time when you only bought things with cash, which was good; you could only purchase them once you had the money upfront. When you buy these ridiculously expense trucks, you are digging a deeper grave for yourself and making the rich richer. Corporations, banks, and Wall Street love to keep you in debt.

As you said, avoid crazy materialistic things and live within your means. I was referring to 200k after taxes with a family of four, which, per my understanding, is not much in areas like SF or NYC if your goal is to save 10-15% toward retirement, kids' college, etc. My point was that regardless of income, you should live within your means and not according to others' expectations. Unpopular prediction - Dealers will reduce prices to an extent, maybe 20% off MSRP, but that won't be enough to move sufficient units to already strapped consumers. The rest will be sold at auction with those vehicles going to foreign markets (i.e., Mexico, South America, etc.) preferring to take the loss on the block where they can hide it from American consumers and avoid reducing MSRPs. Manufacturers will cut production further and continue the trend of selling fewer units to wealthier customers, further exacerbating the lack of affordable cars and keeping prices "high." The rise of virtual work, not having to travel consistently to an office, is also having an influence on lower demand. Finally, dealers and manufacturers will likely destroy their inventories before taking a hit at the retail level. We've seen this before in the oil and gas industry, where service companies in the downcycles cut up rigs and equipment instead of selling them at auction, allowing upstarts to buy them on the cheap, and later becoming low cost competitors when the market improves. It will be more interesting for individuals to buy but that number of individual purchases from auction won't even be close to that marge or that amount of vehicles available sitting and collecting dust. I will be more for what you mentioned about Manufacturers avoiding posting lower prices on the MSRP by cutting production, liquidating/terminating/cutting in pieces the existing non-sold stocks, name it as you want, but just not showing lower prices so the consumer will not ask for the current reduced or a lower price on the next year vehicle. Or just hoping for a bailout.
@co3g921, Not sure I agree with everything you said. Eventually supply will come inline with demand which will coincide with income. But it could take many years. The asking price also has to come inline with the cost of producing such vehicles. Maybe the car companies thought they could pass on the inflation and the public would just suck it up. They are finding out the hard way that's not the case. But it's not just the car industry. It's housing too. Inflation is a bitch. If car companies can't produce cars for a profit, they just won't make them. Thus what you'll probably see is a massive decline in the standard of living and an increase in unemployment. Maybe what we are seeing is the beginnings of a hyper inflationary depression. Who knows. After all our money is a debt-based fiat money which is just a huge Ponzi scheme. It was always going to end with debt going exponential. And all this DEBT has pulled prosperity forward. Common sense tells me we're headed for a nasty depression as all the imbalance works through the system.

In 2001, I did my research, shopped around, and bought a v8 Chevy Silverado 4x4. It was a work truck but I treated it like a family member and it ran like a champ for 23 years, still looks amazing because I detailed it regularly. A few months ago, I sold it and acquired a Honda CR-V Touring. I'm hoping for another winning streak, we'll see.
Im sorry to hear that you had to sell it, just a guess it wore out like the rest. I have a 2019 crv touring. Not impressed for $26,770!! My 2019 F150 -/2 ton lariat was $31,435 out the door. Im impressed with this truck. Had an 05 Silverado. Loved it until it rotted out from underside up.
Honda's are not reliable anymore. They have lots of electrical issues. Transmissions aren't great on many models. They also have timing belts that are expensive to replace and will grenade your engine if not replaced on schedule. I'm not buying another Honda again once we are done with our van. You should have kept the truck. More reliable and way cheaper to maintain.

Europe is worse off than America because your governments are forcing auto manufacturers to be all electric by 2030. There is not the demand for all electric yet and manufacturers don’t know what to build? The government is to blame for most of this in America too.
Get the cheapest ride possible and put your money toward retirement. You don’t have to be 65yr old and realize you can’t retire because you don’t have enough and have to work another 10-15 yrs. Ask yourself what is more important a vehicle or enjoying life as a whole.
I'm 61 too and have purchased 8 new cars in my lifetime .. I hope for many more new purchases in my lifetime. There is nothing better than the joy of getting a new car and driving around. Yes, I work hard and can afford a new product... and never had a Lemon in my lifetime.

I work in sales at a dealership and drive old cars I paid cash for. It is just a piece of metal and you do need to understand the dealerships are taking the loss. The manufacturer sets MSRP and invoice that dealers are buying the vehicles for. Some only have a $400 markup from invoice to MSRP, so when advertising 6k off it hurts the dealership losing 5600. When dealerships are gone (some of you are hoping for) you can go directly to the manufacturer and pay MSRP. There will be no more competition from dealers selling the same brand in your city, there will be no more markdowns. The manufacturers have gotten greedy and wont stop
I've been looking at used cars under $15k and I cringe at what's available just in that price range. The cars have either high miles, a branded title, an underpowered engine, old (over 10 years), or are Euro-trash with potentially expensive repair costs. Unless I won the lottery, I couldn't stomach the thought of spending $50-70K on a new vehicle.
i know the prices are awful but with used car prices being terrible AND new car prices being awful, it can be better to bite the bullet and buy new with a big down payment and lowest interest you can get. i used to get used cars, but they ended up nothing but problems after a few years, new car ends up worth it if you NEED something reliable with no down time. thing about repairs, is sometimes they fix something that isnt the real problem, sometimes they put in a new part thats also bad, and repair prices arent going down either these days. plus the time you lose waiting on those repairs, can actually cost you more in lost work hours than you spend on the expensive repairs. and thats if its something small and you dont have to figure in a rental to wait on parts

I do not owe anything! The last car loan I had was in 1971. (VW Rabbit Diesel......ran 400 K KM) Since then I paid cash and I always had two vehicles. I needed a truck for my business. (Commercial fishing) I bought a few bottom the line Chev or CMC 2WD Vortec sixes. about 5 years old and ran them for about ten years. Fed them to the trees and started again. I used to pay about 5 to 7K for them. What I needed was A BASIC Work truck. NO FRILLS! Crank windows, no cruise, no AC no BS! Sadly these vehicles do not exist anymore. ON cars however. I went from , Diesel Jettas to, Corolla to Mercedes to Camry all used. ( bought a two year old Camry back when .....ran it for FOURTEEN years and sold it for $3000! All cash. Currently I am "one car" (retired) I have a three year old Rav 4. At 79 years old it will bury me! Never buy new and never go into debt for a tool and and a depreciating asset.

My 93 Toyota Pickup with a 4 cylinder 22RE, 7.5ft bed, has been a work truck all its life. Well up until I got it 2 years ago. Small compact trucks are very utilitarian.

I buy equipment for our general contracting business. Every 2 years we buy 10 to 12 F150s. A lot of the reason these trucks are so high is because we get tax breaks for buying new vehicles. We also get parts and service contracts which he didn't mention how expensive that is if your warranty ran out. Vicious cycle if you are an average guy who just wants a work vehicle.

This is why I paid cash for my 2003 Corolla. Runs like a clock. Zero problems with it. Not even a timing cover leak. And best of all, no car payment. And my 2014 F250 I bought in 2016. It’s been paid off for a long time and hauls everything I have.
my 2004 f250 fx4 lariat supercab was msrp at $52,000. i bought it used in 2012 for $11,500. hard to believe a 10 year newer and more capable truck would be $10k less.
Great video. After I got ripped off by Big Star Buick and GMC of Baytown, Texas, I don't feel bad for what is happening. After what happened, I purchased a used Ford F150 at over 20 percent because my credit was destroyed, but I am paying over 4,000 a month to get the truck paid off next year. Simple Reliability is what I want. All the Costly and Power Hungry Tech needs to go. I am less and less interested in a New Car / Automobile these days. I will stick with my 06 Jetta with a Manual Transmission.
@ColdSid not really. PPI increased much higher than CPI so the cost to manufacture exceeded the increase in consumer prices. Its not corporate greed fueling this, its union and bureaucratic greed. The recent UAW contract coupled with your government printing trillions of dollars, but I'm sure this is a difficult concept for you to grasp. Average profit margin of the big 3 is single digits, 5-7% typically. you've never owned a business and it's apparent.
I don't see anyone talking about the costs the manufacturers have to endure to make vehicles compliant nowadays. Catalytic converters alone set you back four figures. And don't even get me started on the disaster that is diesel emissions regulation. I lost track of how much current EGR's cost (upfront, maintenance, and then running costs for DEF), reduce fuel economy, and decline reliability, just to have some gearhead delete the system anyway. They make up BS rules, we pay BS prices.
Love the stats...really paints the current condition effectively. In short, life has gotten more expensive, wages have stagnated, disposable income is reduced / non existent and OEMS have hiked up prices beyond the reach of the historical buyers. My fear is that they will just cut production to reduce inventory levels impacting more workers instead of reducing costs and optimizing their operations.
It is insane for manufacturers to be producing these oversized trucks that only get 15 mpg. The price is insane and the running cost will also be insane.
What's also insane is the the money that Ford, GM, Stelantis, Lucid, and Rivian are losing while making EV's. As well as the insurance for those vehicles and the cost to replace the lithium ion batteries. Car market is in a dark period right now.

I just bought a 2000 Ford Excursion with the 6.8 l v10. I was getting 12 mpg in it. Why are all of these new vehicles mentioned not considered gas guzzlers?

Paid 1200 for a 2004 ford focus wagon. Insurance 39.76 per month. Owned almost 2 yrs. Spent 400 to safety and 600 in repairs over 2 yrs. I feel thats about affordable. 2200 for 2 yrs and she likely go another year. And 450 per year insurance. I can afford to drive her and loading the miles on. 30 000 plus miles per year cause well i have no payments and cheap insurance to afford the gas

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this. As an automotive technician I see way more brand new cars under 100k miles than I do older (pre 2015) cars. I would never go buy a new car. This is another reason why. Like you said, they are making them cheap and jacking up the prices. And the repair cost for these are so high because everything is electronic nowadays! They have to, they don’t own those vehicles outright, they have loans on the vehicles, if they sell for a significant loss they still have to pay their creditors the difference owed on this loans with interest, they don’t have a lot of wiggle room on the price of the cars, their profit margins on the cars are actually pretty low a lot of the time, they make most of their money on financing the vehicle to you in house and all the other dealership markups on the car, the vehicle itself doesn’t make them very much profit to begin with.
@@Justin-f7fI used to sell cars and you’re right for the most part. Dealerships make their money in the “back end” of these car deals. For example: wheel and tire packages, extended warranty, oil change packages, etc.
They also make a ton of money on the interest of in house financing because you pay way more for the car when financing.

I'm with ya and it's sad. I'm a long life Toyota fan until they went nuts with size and prices of their trucks, along with an engine that blew up in them, something that I thought I would never see. My last two Toyotas were an '84 diesel and the Tacoma when it came out in '95, an extra cab version, beautiful and tough truck. Neighbor behind me bought a new Tundra when they came out, same thing, good looking and tough. When did all of this change? Being retired for the last 12 years and out of the new car market, it baffles me. My now second wife bought a '17 Buick Envision after being T-boned in her '12 Cruze and not hurt. It now has 110 grand on it with not one iota of a problem since bought, and of all things, it was at least assembled in Shanghai, China in a GM plant they built over there. If I had known that I would have tried to talk her out of it, but now I'm glad I didn't, being surprised that this car is as good as it is. Why can't they build one over here that will do that like they used to? I guess one thing, greed and not wanting to pay their workers a decent wage, and it's gonna bite them in the butt. John Deere has found out the hard way, luckily for them the hadn't started building their plant in Mexico yet, that 200% increase in a tariff would have totally killed all sales of their products in this country and they damn well know it, thank you very much, President Trump, keep up the good work and turn this country upside down and shake all of the greedy Demorats out of it or break them, sounds good to me...

even 25k is like...that's a bit of a strain on the typical service industry wage. I think it's closer to 15k as a managable load payment but there's zero cars these days that are going to leave a lot for less than 20, well new cars. Obviously used, depending on where you go, you might find someone just wanting to give you the nicest car ever cause their parent died and they don't want to deal with it (seen that before!)....

The screens are cheaper than buttons, objectively. Even if it was only infotainment and a few electronics it controlled, screens are far cheaper than manual controls because they can consolidate more functions of the vehicle.

I remember during Covid every dealership in my area had the market adjustment markup, none were willing to budget if you needed to look at a vehicle… those same dealerships are now asking 50-90k for a pickup truck but their inventory has been sitting for months & months… dealers are starting to find out how hard it is for the average joe.
Instead of filling them with all the gadgets under the sun just make a simple, easy to use, basic and repairable at home truck. Keep it simple.

US citizens need to learn to be more frugal and stop borrowing for absolutely everything. Then maybe the banks will adapt to you. I am 61 and have purchased 4 vehicles in my lifetime. Starting with a '69 Bronco when I graduated high school in 1981, a 1974 High boy, a 1997 F350 4x4 and 2003 Town car. I still own all 4 and drive them on a regular basis and they have served me well. Instead of buying anything new, I will stick with what I have.
And all are easy to work on.

I've owned 9 new Ford F150's (or less than 10k miles at time of purchase) in 33 years. I used these as work trucks. I worked hard to keep the trucks in good condition, and I worked even harder at time of trade-in to find the absolute best deal. The fruits of my labor put me in the upper trim levels of Platinums and Limiteds. Over the past 10 yrs, Ford's quality is definitely spiralling downward! For example, my 2013 Platinum had the top end turbos completely rebuilt 2 times within the 100k warranty! Right now, I'm in a 2021 Platinum Powerboost Hybrid. I have lost count, but I think there are between 20 and 25 recalls for various crap on this high-end flagship F150! Sticker price is around $93k for this fully loaded truck in Dec, 2024. Trade-in that the Stealership is willing to give is around $8 to $10,000 below where it ought to be. I will never buy another new Ford at these prices! I put an extended warranty on what I've got, and plan on driving it to the ground. My 30+ years of loyalty to Ford is over!

Companies have been increasing car prices for year. for no reason. Wtf how is a car worth 89k WTF ARE THEY SMOKING.
It’s all the stuff that gets added to the car. Even base model cars come with a lot of standard stuff now. Plus, they’re practically computers on wheels. Don’t even get me started on performance technology. Add in sport suspension, active anti roll, performance tires, electronically controlled differential, etc, and you’re looking at a very expensive car. There’s also inflation, that’s a big one. Because people don’t buy cars that often throughout their life, they don’t see the effect of inflation on car prices until it’s 10 years worth all at once. $89k is equivalent to around $66k back in 2015. That’s definitely still an expensive car, but if that’s where your bench mark is, you’ll be totally blindsided

A lot of this has to do with epa regulations and incentives. Efficient cars get subsidies that keep them sub 40k. Trucks, sports cars and luxury cars do not and simply absorb all the extra overhead.

This is exactly why the used market is still holding up so well. The OP does not have a clue. Even a 30% discount on a new 100k truck is still 70k. That same 3 year old used truck is still 50k or more.
I live in a small town. We have two name brand deslerships. Stock is usually thin, with the majority of inventory being used vehicles. I noticed for the last month or two, both dealerships have had lots PACKED with new vehicles, and almost no used inventory.
Prices are nucking futs. A base model taco for $45k. Imagine that sticker price for a Chevy S10. No shot anyone in the market for a 1/4 ton truck is gonna pay $40k+ for one. That's what my current loaded options full size v8 truck cost new. I just put $5k into that truck this summer rebuilding the engine myself and handling a ton of maintenance items that most neglect. Until prices come down, used inventory isn't going to change, and everything is priced out of my sanity range. I don't buy new. Even when prices weren't insane, I wasn't willing to be the guy to lose $5k+ before even getting the plate put on. I'll buy it gently used with a few miles on it and let someone else take the depreciation hit. Now, the depreciation value of signing on the line for a new ride is dancing around $20k. Fuck that.

In the future, I am considering getting rid of the car before the warranty expires or getting an extended warranty only if backed by the manufacturer. The cost of repairs, particularly electronic failure, is just out of control. I need to replace the ABS module for my 2014 Honda Accord. The part alone is $2100, only 88K miles, and It is well-maintained.
For Honda Reman transmission $7-8k. In addition, when you get it repaired, there is no guarantee of quality workmanship. In summary, the new age of vehicle ownership is about screwing the consumer. What will correct this problem is a combination of consumers not buying overpriced cars and competition from China producing cheaper quality cars. Possible EVs have fewer parts and less to break down.

Save as much money as humanly possible with your parents. Idk if you already have a career path but start working on that as well. Go into a trade if you have to.
If your employer offers a 401K, then start contributing to it right now. Usually the employer will match your input up to 4%, sometimes even more. Also, start a Roth IRA and put in as much as you can.....you pay taxes on it right away, so then years later when you take distributions, you don't pay taxes because you already did.
Also, learn to work on your own car, if you can. Even small things like oil changes will help you to save money to put in your Roth IRA.
Do not buy. Fix your existing pickup if possible. If not, purchase a 2nd hand pickup. Do not buy at these crazy prices. If you have to, wait until late Feb 2025.

Having driven every single make,model, and trim level of modern truck I can confidently say not a single one is worth $100k. I can say maybe 3 at the highest level trim could be worth $70k but that’s the absolute most they should ever be worth and that’s a generous price
I've rebuilt my 2006 Corolla, manual trans, no cruise, no ABS, manual locks/windows, no traction control, simple A to B car. Fuel efficient easy to work on. I'll keep rebuilding it until part are impossible to get.

Every car I ever bought has been used, cash, driven 10-15 years. Probably spent well less than half what most people do, allowed me to invest that difference and retire early.
When I was young I would buy used cars with low mileage. I 'd pay it off in 3 years and acted like I still had those same payments and save that money. Saved enough to pay cash for my next car. Also when ever I got raise at work I would invest it. I was used to living on what I made. I don't want payments. Retired now and my husband and I were able to pay house off. No car notes either. He still works but I want him to retire next year to travel some.

I'm a lot older than you at 79 I bet, but I bought my 1300 sq ft brick home in '90, put a lot of improvements and remodeling in it like a one car garage to a bedroom, total kitchen redo, total new windows and doors, metal roof installed, and now with seven solar panels that actually make that 15$ electric bill, and now this 30 grand home is floating around the 210 grand range. Do I wanna sell it? H-ll no, like an old aunt of mine once said, they are gonna carry me outta here feet first on a gurney to the grave. Why would I sell my dream home even though it ain't a mansion, when I have a lot a sweat and blood of my own in getting it to this stage. And with my good health even at this age, I'm shootin' for a hundred years old at least, in this very house. Good luck to you and stay in your dream home....

Honda has already gone downhill. I was on a Honda lot two days ago and nearly HALF their vehicles had stickers on them saying they can't be sold as they were DANGEROUS to drive awaiting a recall! The two I looked at....one the tailgate wouldn't open that was on a pilot and the other was a CRV and it sat on thevlot so long that rats or squirrels had eaten the wiring and plastic engine covers. These were 2025 NEW cars. I wouldn't even test drive their cars. I saw Ho da CIVICS with sticker prices OVER 50 thousand dollars! I liked the Sudaru Forrester but the MSRP was well over 40 grand....for a compact SUV!

When I test drove it the acceleration seemed off but the sales person said she didn't notice anything and you will get used to it. This car ended up hesitating so bad it was dangerous. The dealer lies through their teeth. I had junked my old car for the same thing after paying $900 to try and fix it. The govt agencies are all in on it. Fight the dealer hard. One dealer threatened to get security.

I just put a new front end in my 1997 toyota Camry with 285,000 miles on it. Two new axles, ball joints, shocks , inner and outer tie rods and links. And front torsion bar. It was a pain in the /\$$ and took about two days maybe three. Total cost ? Under $600 for the parts. The first I have ever done it. The slop I thought was in the transmission was the passenger side front axle. It was warn out. The transmission is tight no slop. The car rides and drives great. Best part about it……….no car payment👍. I think driving clappers will come back in style😎🤘🏿!

This costs more than my car is worth, and it’s an estimate not a quote, so who knows what I could end up spending. Been looking at buying a new Chevy trax (hearing mixed reviews, but in my budget). @@PotatoPunchers well the thought on value is subjective. You have two different values. You have the value that everybody else puts on it. What you can sell it for and what the value is to you. If you're going to fix the car up and sell it then the repairs are not worth it because you're not going to get your money back. If you're going to fix it up and drive it now the value is whatever you decide it is and quite honestly for me the value is quite high because if the car is paid off I don't have a monthly payment going out. I know my car so I know what I've done to it. I know how it runs. I know how I can trust it so I have the value of peace of mind. I have the value of knowing its ability. I also have the value of not having that overhead payment out every month. Whether I can afford it or not. Things on the vehicle can be repaired can be fixed so I would pay that whatever it took to fix that you're looking at a rebuilt engine. Anyway, from what I understand from your description so you're going to have a new engine that's not bad. The value of that is pretty good now. Let's put this into perspective on a car if you're going to trade it in or buy another car now. You've got a down payment. You got a monthly payment that's going to be between $600 and $1,000. You have your insurance on top of that which can be quite high and then you have in my state. It cost me $1,400 to have my vehicle registered. That's a chunk of money. So just in the cost of registration I almost would have the cost of the engine replacement alone. Then you add on top of that the down payment okay. Now I'm already at the engine replacement and probably beyond it. And if I buy a used vehicle I usually have to replace brakes or tires within a month or two. That's been what has always happened to me. So now you can add that cost on top of it. So we're looking at $3,000 just to get a new vehicle and that's not even a brand new that's just new to me vehicle and that's a cost that's up front right off the bat. So yeah fixing it up is cheaper. Keeping your older vehicles can be a lot cheaper so in your case based on just what you've posted there I would fix it up. If that's the only thing that's going wrong with it majorly I would fix it up. Even if the transmission was out with it, I'd still fix it up because the overall cost of buying a new vehicle was outstrip what you already have many times over just in interest rate and purchasing another vehicle and yes I do know and understand there are times when you do need to get a new vehicle that the headache and the problems getting your old vehicle fixed can be greater than the headache and the cost of getting a new vehicle. Especially when you find shops that won't work on them or when you can't get major components because the manufacturer won't sell them and nobody manufactures parts for that vehicle cvt transmissions are one of those components that other people other companies won't manufacture and no transmission shop that I'm aware of will rebuild them
@@Jason1Pa Yes I get what you're saying. There are times when keeping your older vehicle just isn't feasible. It's not possible. You can't get parts for it. I had a 1978 Dodge 3/4 ton truck that I finally let go. After having the engine redone and a lot of other work done on it. I let it go because I couldn't get an instrument panel for it. I could get instrument panels made for Canada but not for the US and any time. I went to a salvage yard and I found a truck that was compatible. The instrument panel had the same problems or was gone so yes, I do understand that there are times when you can't keep something but that kind of goes for anything. I'm not saying that you should keep your vehicle forever. I'm saying don't get rid of it. When you have a problem weigh out the the cost and I'm not talking about the financial cost. I'm also talking about what's it going to cost you in the long run. How much is it going to cost you to get a new vehicle registered in my state? That's about $1,400 on the low end for a used vehicle. Or at least that's been my experience and then there's the the headache of finding a vehicle finding one you want, finding one that does what you want, find anyone that doesn't have major problems already dealing with the dealership or the person you're buying it from because they don't want you taking it to go get it inspected things like that. Oftentimes fixing your old vehicle is far more beneficial, far more cost effective and in the long run even far more piece of mind. You already know that vehicle you're comfortable with it. You know what it's capable of doing. You know what it's quirks are so fixing up a transmission. Fixing up an engine. Having some major work done such as a radiator or something like that replaced is worth it now. You will find some shops that won't do work on certain vehicles cuz they deem it not worth it so always find several mechanics and talk to them. If they would be willing to work on your car, what would be the biggest headache problem and would they be willing to do it and then you know that if you have that problem you know you can't get it fixed or what it's going to cost or take to get it fixed. My mom had a car that had a water pump that was driven by the timing belt. It was difficult to find a shop that would be willing to tear into the vehicle that far to replace the water pump if it ever went out. When her water pump finally did go out, she decided that another vehicle would be better than fixing that one and it wasn't because of the cost it was. Basically she couldn't find anybody that would do it because of the detail and requirement and how long they would have to have the vehicle. Not only that my sister gave her a vehicle so that kind of sealed that question for too that My body on this is fix it up if you can my wife's vehicle. The engine went out in it. We're going to look into getting it fixed. The vehicles paid off. It's already registered. We don't have to pay for all of that we just have to have the engine replaced and even after replacing the engine the value is still going to be greater for us to keep it than it would be to get rid of it and go buy another vehicle

I remember when you could buy a used pickup for $3,000 and it would run for years. I have a 2012 F-150 and it's literally horrific trying to keep it running. Every other week it's something else, then I spend my weekends replacing parts just to have to do it again in a couple weeks. For a 2016 F-150 there are some dealers asking $24,000. Man, how times have changed. I can't even (nor would) pay $70,000+ for a new truck, especially when quality has gone significantly downhill.
2 years ago my car was repoed, I lost the ability to pay when my rent at the time increased $600 a month, Utilities went full psycho and drastically increased, Car insurance doubled (I have a clean driving record) and the price of groceries all became to much to handle.

The last time I bought a car was 2010, I spent $13k for a little Hyundai Accent. This year I looked at vehicles and was shocked at the price. A vehicle costs more than my first house! I opted for a small previously leased vehicle but still paid almost double the price of my new car in 2010!

You would have to make ~200k/yr to come close to comfort and sleep without worrying about your finances, assuming your goal is to save some money for the future. Depending on what part of the country you live in after taxes, 200K is not much if you have a mortgage, living expenses, and kids. Try not to live paycheck to paycheck; I know it is not easy for many ppl, but don't add to the pain by buying things you truly can't afford. The mentality for many ppl is to buy now and worry about how to afford it later. There was a time when you only bought things with cash, which was good; you could only purchase them once you had the money upfront. When you buy these ridiculously expense trucks, you are digging a deeper grave for yourself and making the rich richer. Corporations, banks, and Wall Street love to keep you in debt.

As you said, avoid crazy materialistic things and live within your means. I was referring to 200k after taxes with a family of four, which, per my understanding, is not much in areas like SF or NYC if your goal is to save 10-15% toward retirement, kids' college, etc. My point was that regardless of income, you should live within your means and not according to others' expectations. Don't buy an 80-100k vehicle if you genuinely can't afford it, don't dig yourself a deeper hole.

It will be more interesting for individuals to buy but that number of individual purchases from auction won't even be close to that marge or that amount of vehicles available sitting and collecting dust.
I will be more for what you mentioned about Manufacturers avoiding posting lower prices on the MSRP by cutting production, liquidating/terminating/cutting in pieces the existing non-sold stocks, name it as you want, but just not showing lower prices so the consumer will not ask for the current reduced or a lower price on the next year vehicle. Or just hoping for a bailout.

@co3g921, Not sure I agree with everything you said. Eventually supply will come inline with demand which will coincide with income. But it could take many years. The asking price also has to come inline with the cost of producing such vehicles. Maybe the car companies thought they could pass on the inflation and the public would just suck it up. They are finding out the hard way that's not the case. But it's not just the car industry. It's housing too. Inflation is a bitch. If car companies can't produce cars for a profit, they just won't make them. Thus what you'll probably see is a massive decline in the standard of living and an increase in unemployment. Maybe what we are seeing is the beginnings of a hyper inflationary depression. Who knows. After all our money is a debt-based fiat money which is just a huge Ponzi scheme. It was always going to end with debt going exponential. And all this DEBT has pulled prosperity forward. Common sense tells me we're headed for a nasty depression as all the imbalance works through the system.

In 2001, I did my research, shopped around, and bought a v8 Chevy Silverado 4x4. It was a work truck but I treated it like a family member and it ran like a champ for 23 years, still looks amazing because I detailed it regularly. A few months ago, I sold it and acquired a Honda CR-V Touring. I'm hoping for another winning streak, we'll see.

Honda's are not reliable anymore. They have lots of electrical issues. Transmissions aren't great on many models. They also have timing belts that are expensive to replace and will grenade your engine if not replaced on schedule. I'm not buying another Honda again once we are done with our van.

I never understood a business that continually raises prices and then be mystified sales are dropping. Especially when even basic maintenance costs for said items are also rising exponentially
I work in sales at a dealership and drive old cars I paid cash for. It is just a piece of metal and you do need to understand the dealerships are taking the loss. The manufacturer sets MSRP and invoice that dealers are buying the vehicles for. Some only have a $400 markup from invoice to MSRP, so when advertising 6k off it hurts the dealership losing 5600. When dealerships are gone (some of you are hoping for) you can go directly to the manufacturer and pay MSRP. There will be no more competition from dealers selling the same brand in your city, there will be no more markdowns. The manufacturers have gotten greedy and wont stop
I've been looking at used cars under $15k and I cringe at what's available just in that price range. The cars have either high miles, a branded title, an underpowered engine, old (over 10 years), or are Euro-trash with potentially expensive repair costs. Unless I won the lottery, I couldn't stomach the thought of spending $50-70K on a new vehicle.
i know the prices are awful but with used car prices being terrible AND new car prices being awful, it can be better to bite the bullet and buy new with a big down payment and lowest interest you can get. i used to get used cars, but they ended up nothing but problems after a few years, new car ends up worth it if you NEED something reliable with no down time.
thing about repairs, is sometimes they fix something that isnt the real problem, sometimes they put in a new part thats also bad, and repair prices arent going down either these days. plus the time you lose waiting on those repairs, can actually cost you more in lost work hours than you spend on the expensive repairs. and thats if its something small and you dont have to figure in a rental to wait on parts

I do not owe anything! The last car loan I had was in 1971. (VW Rabbit Diesel......ran 400 K KM) Since then I paid cash and I always had two vehicles. I needed a truck for my business. (Commercial fishing) I bought a few bottom the line Chev or CMC 2WD Vortec sixes. about 5 years old and ran them for about ten years. Fed them to the trees and started again. I used to pay about 5 to 7K for them. What I needed was A BASIC Work truck. NO FRILLS! Crank windows, no cruise, no AC no BS! Sadly these vehicles do not exist anymore. ON cars however. I went from , Diesel Jettas to, Corolla to Mercedes to Camry all used. ( bought a two year old Camry back when .....ran it for FOURTEEN years and sold it for $3000! All cash. Currently I am "one car" (retired) I have a three year old Rav 4. At 79 years old it will bury me! Never buy new and never go into debt for a tool and and a depreciating asset.

I buy equipment for our general contracting business. Every 2 years we buy 10 to 12 F150s. A lot of the reason these trucks are so high is because we get tax breaks for buying new vehicles. We also get parts and service contracts which he didn't mention how expensive that is if your warranty ran out. Vicious cycle if you are an average guy who just wants a work vehicle.
Let 'em rot. Brand new fully loaded Honda Accord coupe, for $22k, in 1996, now almost $50k. Find yourself a good used Honda, or Toyota, without the new technology, and maintain it. Absolutely LUDICROUS, to spend $100k, on a CAR. And don't get me started on the insurance. What a scam.
When dealerships were selling vehicles 10 to 20,000 over MSRP back during the pandemic I hope they made lots of money. New vehicles are not worth half of what they want for them what do you think?? Let's make the dealerships pay for what they did to us. Don't buy anything in 2025

I pay 39.76 per month insurance. Sounds reasonable to me. Learn how to drive and insurance not so bad. Plus hey i even have a accident and ticket forgiveness cause been yrs since accident or ticket.

This is why I paid cash for my 2003 Corolla. Runs like a clock. Zero problems with it. Not even a timing cover leak. And best of all, no car payment. And my 2014 F250 I bought in 2016. It’s been paid off for a long time and hauls everything I have.
I bought a new 2014 F350 King Ranch 4X4 Dually for $42,000.00 and I thought that was a lot of money. I haven't bought a new vehicle since.
My 2010 F-150 FX-4 was MSRP $43,215. My 2024 Ranger Lariat was MSRP $51,115. The Ranger is nice, but it lacks a power moonroof and rear vents.
my 2004 f250 fx4 lariat supercab was msrp at $52,000. i bought it used in 2012 for $11,500. hard to believe a 10 year newer and more capable truck would be $10k less.
Great video. After I got ripped off by Big Star Buick and GMC of Baytown, Texas, I don't feel bad for what is happening. After what happened, I purchased a used Ford F150 at over 20 percent because my credit was destroyed, but I am paying over 4,000 a month to get the truck paid off next year. I wish everyone the very best. New vehicles cost way too much.

Simple Reliability is what I want. All the Costly and Power Hungry Tech needs to go. I am less and less interested in a New Car / Automobile these days. I will stick with my 06 Jetta with a Manual Transmission.

The recent UAW contract coupled with your government printing trillions of dollars, but I'm sure this is a difficult concept for you to grasp. Average profit margin of the big 3 is single digits, 5-7% typically. you've never owned a business and it's apparent.
Ford and Stellantis are on track to still have 2023 and 2024 vehicles on lots for all of year 2025.
I don't see anyone talking about the costs the manufacturers have to endure to make vehicles compliant nowadays. Catalytic converters alone set you back four figures. And don't even get me started on the disaster that is diesel emissions regulation. I lost track of how much current EGR's cost (upfront, maintenance, and then running costs for DEF), reduce fuel economy, and decline reliability, just to have some gearhead delete the system anyway. They make up BS rules, we pay BS prices.

Love the stats...really paints the current condition effectively. In short, life has gotten more expensive, wages have stagnated, disposable income is reduced / non existent and OEMS have hiked up prices beyond the reach of the historical buyers. My fear is that they will just cut production to reduce inventory levels impacting more workers instead of reducing costs and optimizing their operations.
It is insane for manufacturers to be producing these oversized trucks that only get 15 mpg. The price is insane and the running cost will also be insane.

What's also insane is the the money that Ford, GM, Stelantis, Lucid, and Rivian are losing while making EV's. As well as the insurance for those vehicles and the cost to replace the lithium ion batteries. Car market is in a dark period right now.

Paid 1200 for a 2004 ford focus wagon. Insurance 39.76 per month. Owned almost 2 yrs. Spent 400 to safety and 600 in repairs over 2 yrs. I feel thats about affordable. 2200 for 2 yrs and she likely go another year. And 450 per year insurance. I can afford to drive her and loading the miles on. 30 000 plus miles per year cause well i have no payments and cheap insurance to afford the gas

Europe has less severe weather and is smaller. US/Canada and Mexico are huge by comparison and no one is scootering in 35-40 miles of their commute because they have to live further out to just be able to afford rent or mortgage.

As an automotive technician I see way more brand new cars under 100k miles than I do older (pre 2015) cars. I would never go buy a new car. This is another reason why. Like you said, they are making them cheap and jacking up the prices. And the repair cost for these are so high because everything is electronic nowadays! Do not buy a brand new vehicle. Unless it’s a 0 mile 10 year old car lol
