      No you can’t, the motion sensor is classed as ring smart lighting, witch you need a bridge for

    Sounds good for regular curbside mailboxes, but if it has to be mounted on the door of the mailbox, it won't fit on security mailboxes like the Mail Boss.

    I'm an IT guy. I like the fact that they have their own mail box sensor but this isn't hard to do if you like home automation. I setup a common motion sensor attached to a magnet that I stick to the back of the mailbox. I then added the sensor to my Hubitat home automation hub and brought it into Alexa via the Hubitat skill.
    I then setup a routine where everytime the mailbox is opened I get an Alexa notification on my phone that says "Your mail has been delivered"
    I just needed the notification. I don't have mailbox thieves unless they really want to steal my junk mail..LOL. I guess if I need video I can easily program that to.
    I'm interested in knowing how their car alarm works. That would be cool to have. I could program that to my floodlight camera/alarm. Basically the idea would be that if someone broke in the car the floodlight would come in and start recording along with activating the siren. The combination of the siren, car alarm and lights turning on will have a criminal running.

      I wouldn’t count in it. I’ve been wanting the floodlight cam to work with the home security forever. I’ve wanted the siren on the floodlight to go off if my home alarm goes off. But I ended up buying the extra done siren which is why they probably wouldn’t make them work together cuz then people won’t buy the extra accessories. Plus you can’t just put one of the motion sensor in your mail box already and have it do the same thing.

      I was thinking of doing something like this with a tilt sensor mounted to the door, so when the mailbox door is opened I get a notification the mail is here ... it'd be great since I can't really see my mailbox except from one window and live in Florida with rain storms, etc. quite often, so it'd be good to know when the mail is delivered vs going out in the rain only to find an empty box.

    I was hoping to find a little explanation of how Mailbox Sensor is installed. RING is forgetting to include the installation instructions in the Sensor BOX. Finger down!

    why does amazon product listing say you need a bridge?

    • @Mister_Y
      @Mister_Y 3 роки тому +1

      So you can get to the other side. Kidding. The bridge talks to your device and connect to your wifi...it acts like a bridge, you need it to work. Some other ring devices such as light bulbs and floodlights require the bridge to operate as well.

      @@Mister_Y my 3 floodlights work perfect with no bridge..

    • @Mister_Y
      @Mister_Y 3 роки тому +2

      @@jesusjuarez8843 You can use the floodlights like any other regular motion floodlights without the bridge, but to utilize all the features, you need the bridge. It allows the floodlights to interact with your other ring devices. For example, if the floodlights turn on, a camera could start recording, or other lights can turn on at the same time. Without the bridge, it’s just a regular motion sensing floodlight. There are many on the market for this application if this is your intent. Most people would buy this(floodlight) because they are in the Ring family of smart devices and want the devices to “talk” to each other or work together. Your floodlights might “work” like a regular floodlight, but would never connect to your Ring app allowing you to know if motion was triggered(and logged). Lastly, you can not use the app to turn on the floodlights without the bridge.

    Unfortunately RING Mailbox alarm is useless ... yes, you will get a pop up alert in your phone, but will not trigger the alarm. So if someone opens your mailbox at night while you are sleeping.. you wont be notify.. I bought this setup on Amazon and send it right back.. You video is awesome btw!
