gorgeous. so the tacky glue has a long-ish open time; it doesn't dry quickly? i like that. also, the finish looks like a lacquer type coating rather than a varnish. can you give the exact name of the product. i watched alene's creative living religiously for years. she was so ahead of her time.
Yes! Do you have any favorite paints, stains or inks? You can test them. Just make a small sample piece on a piece of cardboard and test your colors. [Tiffany]
Hi Anna - It depends on what finished look that you desire. If you press the whole pieces on you will not get gaps between the eggshells. I like more space between my eggshells. [Tiffany]
I too used this technique with elementary children..using the shells to form a flower, for mothers day presents and would save all my Easter eggs that I colored, crushed them and stored them in baggies..But your technique really raised the bar! love it!
I use Sakura 3D Glaze available at shopcool2craft [dotcom]. It is water resistant, not waterproof. You can squeeze it out from the tip of the bottle and then fill in so that it floats on the surface. [Tiffany]
inspecterty - you could use construction paper for the mosaic technique and you could put it on the back of a dog tag but you'll need to use a really strong sealer and be sure that it is non-toxic.
Yes the pieces I did this technique on were pre-drilled. Unfortunately, the mfg. stopped making them :( Trying to find substitutes to recommend. [Tiffany]
Thank you, that was most interesting. I do have a book on eggshell mosaics but have never attempted to do anything, but watching you has made me want to go ahead and give it a try!! I already know mosaic so this will be interesting to add to with eggshells!!
What an awesome technique. I grew up watching your Mom on TV in fact I credit her for my love of crafting and art. This is lovely and I'm going to make some soon. Thank you
I've been saving egg shells for a few days now. My daughter has a farm and lots of chickens. You should see the range in gorgeous colors that I have. From very light beige to some dark browns, light green to dark greens and some variegated colors. It's an honor for me to be able to talk to you through the magic of the internet. I grew up watching your Momma and I have to credit her for my love of Art and creating. Thanks Tiffany I am addicted to your channel here on youtube and I can't just watch one video, I find myself binge watching the whole evening if I try to watch just one. What a lucky Lady you are to have grown up with Aleene as a Momma.
@kmeevd Yes you can try other paints and inks. Just glue up a test sample and try the colors that you have. If you like them, you can create your finished project with your choice.
Great option Branwen! I dilute my alcohol inks when I use them on many projects. What I love about alcohol inks is that one drop can go a long way! [Tiffany]
Thanks Krafty Katsy! It has been so great to reconnect with our Aleene's Creative Living friends and fans! Hope you can join us for our weekly chats and watch our on-line tv show at cool2craft [Tiffany]
Tiffany used pre-drilled resin pieces that can be purchased on our shopcool2craft site. I hope this answers your question and thank you for the nice comment!
@bonniehowell - the tiles that I used in this video were pre-drilled. Unfortunately, I made this video in 2011 and since then, the manufacturer has stopped making these and I have not yet found a pre-drilled substitute. If you are handy with a drill, you could drill domino type pieces for this project. [Tiffany]
what a wonderful crafting technique. any luck on finding something similar to the pre-drilled resin beads? i'd love to try it, but i've had no luck finding anything to use as a base.
did you have to drill holes in each piece of wood to make the bracellete? did you use elastic thread? What kind of a clasp did you use? It looks lovely!
Yes, you can string the pieces with your favorite beading method. I used two strands of beading wire and then joined them into one in order to attach the bracelet closure with crimp beads. [Tiffany]
Thank you Hoda! The resin shapes are no longer available so you could probably substitute with drilled dominoes but this technique can be used on any hard surface. [Tiffany]
This looks fabulous! I love it and would love to make it, too. Can I use something else instead of alcohol ink? Also, I didn't understand what you used as a base to create the mosaic.
alcohol ink is very expensive and you don't really need to use it you can use acrylic paint just as well, when the paint dries press a black ink pad on top then blot it off this makes it look pearlized and antiqued.
Cisca Calmer I used clear elastic jewelry cord (Elasticity by Beadalon is great). The resin pieces have two pre-drilled holes so you run one piece of elastic through each side with the pearl beads in between as spacers. With the elastic cord, you just tie the ends together into a knot and secure the knot with Bead Fix glue. [Tiffany]
I use very hot water, heated in a kettle, on my eggshells and let them soak about 30 mins. Then I remove the membrane. This helps me keep the shells whole so that when I get ready to apply the shells to a wood block or a piece of polymer clay that I've cut in different shapes and baked. I use a tooth pic to make a hole in my clay before I bake it. After applying glue to my form I lay a piece of shell on my form and press gently . If your eggshells are big this helps you cover the arena and the pressing gently cracks the shell and gives you a very nice pattern and you don't have to place tiny pieces down. I put a tooth pic in the hole I made before baking my clay ,paint the shell with the alcohol ink and insert the tooth pic in Styrofoam and let the piece dry. Then I add a shiny coating. Love eggshell jewlery.
The base pieces to the bracelet were pre-drilled resin pieces. We we notified by the supplier that they are no longer available so we are trying to re-source them. You can use jewelry wire to join the pieces together and use your favorite jewelry clasp or you can use elastic thread and beads. Always remember to use the correct elastic thread glue so that the knot holds in place.
Beautiful, I would LOVE to know the product you used to give that gorgeous shine! I used to watch your Mom, when I was waiting for my baby to nap, LOVED her shows, and her ideas, she was the one and only at that time, and so fun to boot! Miss her, as I know you do, just wanted you to know that. Brings back fond memories for me! LOL
I love this, but I have a question. Do the resin blocks have any holes or anything so it can be strung on material to make a bracelet, or are the pearls simply glued on to the pieces?
Not clear about your question? The resin pieces that I use for the base are pre-drilled so you just need to string beading wire through the holes. I put beads in between the pieces and add a bracelet closure at the ends with wire crimps. Hope this helps!
I have my eggshells soaking in water...I love what you have done..but, I cant find the resin tiles or wooden ones..do you have a source for this project..thanks for sharing your beautiful project!
@katiegreenelephant - I have never tried this coloring combination, but I say give it a try and let us know how it works! One concern is if you can apply a sealer coat over food dye with the dye running? [Tiffany]
@JoBrosSelenaJustin - The ink can run off the edge if you use too much. Just start with a little bit at a time. If you want to use clear nail polish as your gloss top coat, you should test first to be sure that it is compatible with the alcohol inks. You don't want the top coat to pick up the color of the ink.
Question..did u drill the holes prior to doing the eggshell and color or u did it after? also what drill bit did you use on that size wood piece? Oh great job by the way...
hi that look nice but were did u get them blocls at i like to do some bracelet to i do hemp bracelets and friendship bracelet i like other bracelets to i want to make one like this one but were do u get them blocks and the colors
Can you tell me what is the name of the gloss you used over the bracelet. Very interested in getting one - one that dries over night with that sort of finish. Thanks and loveee the bracelet...
omg i luv this i have a bunch of egg shells in my extra frig n my hubby has been after me to get them out. Oh well pulling out the polymer clay and then making some cool stuff. thk so excited i found ur site
Ronda Bergeron - I used stretchy clear jewelry cord and ran it through the pre-drilled holes in the resin pieces. When running the cord through the holes, add a small spacer bead in between each piece. Tie cord into double knot and use instant jewelry glue to hold the knot. (Unfortunately, the manufacturer discontinued making these resin pieces after I made this video so you will need to try this technique on other jewelry surfaces.) [Tiffany]
@Cool2Craft ok, thanks for responding...I tried this technique but I did it on a plain wood piece and not the white that you used. Im going back to the drawing board with the right stuff! :) thanks again
Thank you Tiffany, what is the hard piece you have used, i dont think we have alcohol ink in saudi arabia .. What other option i can use and finally, i didnt understand the final glass touch, how did u make it? Waiting for your reply, thanks. Diana
Hello can you please tell me what kind of mosaic did u used, and how did u open the holes thru because I tried with a mosaic and broke it trying to open the holes thank you so much
This a great technique. And how cool is Aleene? Aleene's glues and you! I'm currently in love with the fabric tack again. I use it on my unmounted rubber stamps and as homemade sticky zots. You ladies rock!
I'M LOOKING FOR A GOOD FINISHING DEPTH GLAZE THAT IS EASY TO USE - IE: COMES IN A BOTTLE INSTEAD OF A TWIST OFF CONTAINER.. I AM USING TRIPLE THICK NOW...BUT IT HAS TO BE BRUSHED ON AND IT SETTLES WHEN IT DRIES TO I HAVE TO APPLY MANY COATS TO ACHIEVE...THE DOMED GLASS LOOK YOUR BEADS HAD...I ALSO WOULD LIKE THE GLAZE TO BE WATERPROOF... WHAT GLAZE DID YOU USE...AND IS IT A WATERPROOF GLAZE ? THANK YOU
I enjoyed watching this - vintage is great! If you don't mind could you please tell me the colors and the brands of alcohol inks that you used - I would appreciate it! They turned out beautiful - and who would guess egg shells - unless they already knew the technique!
Hi Annie65H - I use Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Inks. It's been a few years since I made this project but I'm guessing the color was Terra Cotta or Rust. Hope this helps!
Yes you can use acrylic paint instead of alcohol ink. I used resin pieces for the bracelet base. You can purchase these pieces at our shopping site. shopcool2craft
Yes - you have some open time with the Aleene's Tacky Glue. The gloss that I use is available at shopcool2craft (dotcom).
gorgeous. so the tacky glue has a long-ish open time; it doesn't dry quickly? i like that. also, the finish looks like a lacquer type coating rather than a varnish. can you give the exact name of the product.

You should be able to find wood shapes similar to these in the wood section at Michaels but they do not carry the pre-drilled resin shapes.
I have never tried this but I think you should be able to set the egg shells into resin without a problem. [Tiffany]
Yes! Do you have any favorite paints, stains or inks? You can test them. Just make a small sample piece on a piece of cardboard and test your colors. [Tiffany]

To aid in the removal of the membrane you can also add a tablespoon of baking soda to the water you are going to boil your eggs in.
Thank you! We are so happy you liked it!

What an awesome technique. I grew up watching your Mom on TV in fact I credit her for my love of crafting and art. This is lovely and I'm going to make some soon. Thank you
+Susie LaLonde Thanks for stoppign by Susie! This is one of our favorite Momma Aleene techniques! [Tiffany]

so creative! thanks . its good to watch when your bored, and finally made something worthy. :)
did you have to drill holes in each piece of wood to make the bracellete? did you use elastic thread? What kind of a clasp did you use? It looks lovely!
I remember the show your Mother did showing how to do that technique. Been awhile. Thanks for sharing
+Jeanie Gregory Yes! This has been a Momma Aleene favorite for over 50 years!
We're so happy you enjoyed it!
Yes, you can string the pieces with your favorite beading method. I used two strands of beading wire and then joined them into one in order to attach the bracelet closure with crimp beads. [Tiffany]
Thanks I plan to get a resin kit and thought that this looked just so lovely
Yes - you can use acrylic paint to color the eggshells and wipe back the excess color.
We are so happy you got to try it!
I like the idea it’s simple and looks very artistic
Thank you Hoda! The resin shapes are no longer available so you could probably substitute with drilled dominoes but this technique can be used on any hard surface. [Tiffany]
I just bought some of the Mod Podge Dimensional glaze a couple days ago. I think I will try this technique.
mamamonster Have fun creating this project!
This is lovely. I just have a question is it possible to resin set the egg shell?
This looks fabulous! I love it and would love to make it, too. Can I use something else instead of alcohol ink? Also, I didn't understand what you used as a base to create the mosaic.

And also the closure? Thank you so much. I love the bracelet

@lubsjoanne I used the resin pieces we sell at our shopcool2craft website.

@miriam123gold You can find Ranger Alcohol Inks in the rubber stamp and inks section at craft stores, or online at rangerink.
I have my eggshells soaking in water...I love what you have done..but, I cant find the resin tiles or wooden ones..do you have a source for this project..thanks for sharing your beautiful project!
Hi...can I use clear tacky glue if I don't have the one you're using?...great idea by the way!

We're so bummed that the pre-drilled resin pieces were discontinued. You might try drilling domino pieces.
Hi I love your crafts. Could you tell me where you got the resin pieces from for the braclet.
+Sandy Koch Unfortunately, the manufacturer is no longer making these resin pieces. You might check on-line to see if you can find drilled dominos.
Yes - you can use acrylic paint to color the eggshells. Just brush on and wipe off excess with paper towel.
You can find jewelry findings at Michaels or on-line at Rings 'n Things
How did you make the holes in your resin pieces for the beading elastic to go through or did they come with holes in them?
You can make it by placing fabric dye in at least 80% alcohol or break a marker and soak the color wick in alcohol..
omg i luv this i have a bunch of egg shells in my extra frig n my hubby has been after me to get them out. Oh well pulling out the polymer clay and then making some cool stuff. thk so excited i found ur site
xINVISIGOTHx - We're glad you like Tiffany's project! Thank you for the feedback!
Thank you! We think you'll love it!
Thank you, preciousxbluexfairy, for your kind comment! We hope you'll get a chance to try this technique!
Thank you. I will try to find it here. Again, I love the idea.
disculpe, que es el liquido café que le coloco antes de la laca ?? . Que buen trabajo felicidades, saludos.
Very nice but how did you attach the beads to the mosaic pieces?
I love this!! This is sooo awesome!! Thanks for posting!!
The base to this bracelet are pre-drilled resin pieces available at shopcool2craft (dotcom)
Hi tiffany were you able to transport the tiles yet?
Very nice thnx for sharing .btw what is alcoholic ink we don't get it in India
Love the look but could you show us how you attached the beads to make it a bracelet?
Ronda Bergeron - I used stretchy clear jewelry cord and ran it through the pre-drilled holes in the resin pieces. When running the cord through the holes, add a small spacer bead in between each piece. Tie cord into double knot and use instant jewelry glue to hold the knot. (Unfortunately, the manufacturer discontinued making these resin pieces after I made this video so you will need to try this technique on other jewelry surfaces.) [Tiffany]

Could you please give more info on gloss finish not sure what i should be looking for
Our favorite clear gloss is Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer.
absolutely beautiful. thanks for sharing.
Ok Tif, thank you for your response
Hello can you please tell me what kind of mosaic did u used, and how did u open the holes thru because I tried with a mosaic and broke it trying to open the holes thank you so much
What did you add on top for the smooth, clear surface? Super-glue or something?
I used Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer - www.shopcool2craft.com/products/3D-Crystal-Lacquer.html [Tiffany]
Thank you! :D
The base to the bracelet are resin shapes that you can purchase at shopcool2craft (dotcom).
Have you use résine finition?

Thank you so much :)
Do the eggshells need to be hardboiled, or can you work with raw just as effectively?
so are there holes on the sides of the resin? Because I am misunderstood on how u did the beading of the bracelet
I use pre-drilled resin shapes. They are available at shopcool2craft (dotcom)
Tiffany how do you make a resin piece for the egg shells to go on?
Yes you can use acrylic paint instead of alcohol ink. I used resin pieces for the bracelet base. You can purchase these pieces at our shopping site. shopcool2craft
LOVE IT!! thank you so much for posting and all your lil' tips :) Blessings~
Could u do this with other materials like construction paper instead of egg shells? And can this work on the back of a dog tag?
very nice. who would of thought to use eggshells for this?? very helpful
Tiffany used alcohol inks to color her eggshells. You can also use acrylic paints.
