I found this video years ago and loved it. Been making beads ever since. I even hand painted some paper with watercolors and used that. I also went into Paint on my computer, put some random colors out there, printed it, and made beads with that.
Likewise!! I did paper beads when I was a kid in Girl Scouts! I am so happy to see this. Things stay the same…but have improved!! The embossing powder and the bead cores really add a professional touch! Thank you for this!
I used two 12" long strips for each bead, one was 1/2" wide and the other was 1/2" at one end and tapers to 1/16" roughly on the other:) roll the strait strip first then glue on the taper starting with the wide end.
Hi Lindsay! It's been 2 months since I wrote asking you for advice on the diff colors of UTEE and wow! exciting things are happening! A print shop here uses boxes of colored paper to print fliers, any rejects are tossed, I simply turn them over and cut my strips, lol. I double the length to compensate for the thin paper. I've saved my old scraps of card-stock, I use those, even mixing colors, a wide strip of one color for the first roll, another which I cut with pinking shears for texture. I detest paper waste, I want future generations to enjoy trees! Some of my UTEE colors all of which were gifted, are the solid clear, white and black, the metals - copper, gold, silver, bronze and so on as well as regular embossing powder which range in colors from summer fruits to a primary holiday palette .The paper can be any color really even old white typing paper. I have several ink colors too which I'm experimenting with. I also received my heat gun from my friend. My only expenses have been the bead cores, also $5.00, free shipping on ebay and they arrived in 5 days! wow! And I bought several colors of memory wire for $1.00 for 4.9 feet at walmart. I don't want to invest in chains and such until I'm sure of the person's preference I'm gifting to. My wonderful friend who gave me my 'treasures' was an avid crafter and now late in her 70's has decided to travel and didn't want the beautiful collection to be wasted. I know I'm rambling but I must thank you again for sharing your awesome talent, and I look forward to receiving mail from your blog, my life has become endless possibilities, who'd have known , right? Hugs!~~
thanks! I just dipped the bead back in the powder while it was hot so the new coat of powder stuck, if you wait too long you will need to add more ink:) They are water resistant, I wouldn't wear them in the tub LOL! When you glue in the bead core allow some glue to drip into the hole to seal the center of the bead and you will be all set:)
This is so awesome. I am considered disabled due to having IBC (inflammatory breast cancer) and all that comes with having cancer and I need other things to do while not getting up and going to a job. This is one of the things I can do at home. I love your energy. I always smile and chuckle while watching any of your videos. Keep doing what you do. God bless.
I wish you the best I had triple negative twice , In 1994 and last year ( other side , unrelated to the first ) Now is in remission The first time , while in treatment I was in a car accident , I got chest injuries and shattered my ankle I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia shortly after I just started making paper beads I love these tutorials Some patterns from catalogs of stores that sell clothes are so beautiful !
I too have had IBC. Don’t hear about it too often. The aggressive chemo has left me disabled also. Extreme neuropathy in both hands and feet. I am always looking for things to do. Just takes me a bit longer to accomplish because of the neuropathy. Looking forward to giving this a try.
I have made beads like this since 1962, but this is the first I have heard of "bead cores". To me, they look like eyelets on shoe laces. New trick for an old dog ;-) Your beads look gorgeous.
Yes, they are pretty much the exact same thing lol. I was about to go buy bead cores and then I realized that I have a whole bunch of eyelets/grommets😊
No doubt, I felt the same way! Lindsay has the best tips & techniques for us, no matter the medium. PlusPLUSplus, I’ve wanted to create paper beads, but there was that little something missing… Bead Cores! So, now I get to play, thanks to Miss L! Happy Paper Beading ☀️
Omg...this is so amazing and no one would EVER know that these beads made from PAPER were not the real Pandora beads, which are like, so very expensive! LOVE this tutorial!
I love watching your videos. It's great that you get right to the project and don't spend 5 minutes just talking before you start. Thanks for your projects. :-)
Veola Sutherland I agree about the talking. I have seen one where the woman gives a 15 min rundown on her family and 5 mins to the craft. That is a vlog not a craft video.
I also do not like music of any kind. My hearing is not so good & I really am not interested. I have to turn my volume down & then can't hear my phone. This is my 1st time seeing hand made beads & am extremely impressed. Thank you so much!
a hair dryer will not get hot enough, I use my heat gun everyday from drying a watercolor so I can go tot eh next step to removing hot glue strings to stamping, you will get a lot of use from it and it only costs $10-$20 at a craft store with a coupon! Hardware store have them too and they are super hot, so be careful if you go that route. You can use clear nail polish of mod-podge if you do not want to bother with the heat gun.
You are AWESOME! Your videos are clear, concise and complete...that, along with your upbeat personality, makes me feel like I can do it. I'm very depressed so for me to actually DO something rather than watch others says a LOT. Thank you...all your hard work is so appreciated!!!
Abbie, Yes you can use any color but it will cover the pattern and color of your bead, you can even use multiple colors and it will be like using frit with glass, so cool! Embossing in is a slow drying sticky ink, you can use vegetable glycerin applied with a sponge in place of the ink as well:)
Thank you for answering so quickly! I'm during a marathon of your videos! Rice warmers, beads, such cool stuff and my FB crafting buddies love them too! Thank you Lindsay.

Loved the tutorial. I just located it. I have been looking for a specific color in the European type beads and so far have not located them and since finding your tutorial on making paper beads I think I may have to try it. Thanks again.

It's amazing how much class the beads gain from adding those little silver grommets! And, of course, the genius idea of embossing powder. It really makes it look like glass. Darn you! Now I have to run right out to the store and buy all these supplies because I cannot wait to try this! (As if my crafting area dost not runneth over already.) LOL! It's gorgeous. Thanks for a great idea. :D
Beautiful Paper Bead and really great shinny glaze. Your bead colors took on such depth. I will be glazing my paper beads from now on. Thank you for the useful video. BrentnUtah
Your beads are very pretty. I've made a ton of these things. When I roll mine I water down the glue and glue the whole strip as I'm rolling it. I put them on wire coat hangers to dry. When they are dry I coat them with triple thick. They are so much fun to make.
I make a variety of paper beads in many different styles for jewelry that I sell online. This is an amazing, simple and fun adaptation! Just brilliant! Thank for sharing!!
love this! I just recently found your channel. I love your energy, content and your wide variety of art and craft covered. You, Lindsay are the real gem. Thank you! I am beginning my journey of sharing crafting with others in a local setting. I am looking to find more of creating earrings and setting up a booth/display in a flea market/craft fair/ or antique mall. I love your video showing your earring packaging. I am trying to find any videos involving creating jewelry. I am sifting through your channel and love hearing of your journey. Take care!
These are really pretty. I used to make paper beads but I did it a but differently. I would make strips like you did but out of magazine pages. I would dip the strip on white glue just like making paper mache. Then I would wrap the strip around a toothpick, you could use a small knittiing needle like you did. The I would slip it off and set it doesn't to dry. You can use clear nail polish or a clear glossy spray like in the spray paint isle. You have a lot of neat suggestions for coating them. I love your idea. I often made the beads with my children as a craft to do, I did a lot of crafts with my kids and this was a perfect project for my kids and they turned out really pretty.
Ten years later and though I watched it in the past (probably 10 years ago) I'm back to learn to do this for myself so I can add beads to the tassels of my homemade bookmarks.
That was so cool. I have never seen these made. So easy! I I can easily keep scraps from my card making etc to use for beads. Thanks for this tutorial Lindsay.😊
I love ur accent its wicked cool....lol san diego transplant. I love these paper beads, gave me some greats ways to use up leftover Christmas and holiday wrapping paper. So thank you Very Much!
hello how long does the bead lasts after embossing? is it harder? waterproof? and what type of paper do you use? regular paper? sorry for all the questions i don't know anything about beads
they will last for a long time. Mine even went through the washer (not recommended!) and they came out intact but the glazing got a bit dull. Keep them dry and they will last forever!
El polvo que usan se llama embossing powder y para ayudar al polvo pegar usan clear ink stamp y usa una pistola de calor o secadora de mano para el polvo y usar varias capas asta obtener el resultado
Grommets can usually be found at W.Mart,Hobby Lobby, Michael's,or any good fabric/ sewiing store such as JoAnn Fabrics. The ones I've bought in the past have been "Fritz" brand and you can get a pretty generous package fairly cheaply....These stores sell online as well..just head for the "notions* or fabric/thread areas .
haha subscribed within seconds, lol I sure do love creators who put this amount of preparation and efficiency etc into their videos, thank you so much. Also, it never occurred to me that people could make their own beads, what fun!
Uh oh...looks like too much addicting fun! I think this will be great to do with my toddler when she gets a bit older, so simple and pretty! Thanks for sharing!
love this idea we got my mom a charm bracelet a few christmas's ago and this is such a great mother's day craft the kids can do to have personalized charms of paper that don't weigh down the bracelet too much love it
Two thumbs up for you Lindsay, I have three Pandora bracelets and buying the beads are very expensive. I bought some at the dollar store but you can pick them out right away, your method is much, much better
I'm a new subscriber! You just made my life so much easier in making my beads! I have a bit of a different process, but by putting the two together, it's perfect! Thank you! Looking forward to checking out more of your videos!
WHen I do my paper beads I use polyurethane. It coats inside and out. I hang them on fishing line and let them dry. I wonder if after dipping and adding the eyelets if it would have same effect. I think I will try it. Thank you for the knitting needle idea that is great. I use card stock paper also and it gives it the chunky look. I love your beads.
Someone told me to check out your tutorial and I'm so glad I did. I've started making bracelets and now I can make my beads as well. Thank you so much, I can't wait to get started.
awesome results. thanks! Im working overseas with limited access to traditional craft supplies... so this is ideal with such professional looking results! may have to go the resin route for my finishes.. but excited to try!
Great video, Lindsay! Love those beads. I have Diamond Glaze. I’ll bet that would work too. I don’t have the jewelry end pieces, but do have some eyelets. I’ll give it a try, adjusting the knitting needle size.
I would like to see what kind of glue you use and watching you do the heating of the bead would have been nice, I still do not have a clue how to make these beads. They are pretty, but you left out and important step.
Dreamy art! I had to resort to taping my pretty paper to a chopped straw then rolling up because my insides collapsed too much. Your beads are still prettier than I made.
They look lovely! Thank you! I have used glue-stick as adhesive. I would use it at least at start and end of a paperstrip. You can use some not so nice pattern in the middle part
My first time of seeing beads made. Great video and I love the beads you made, they look better than Pandora beads. Certainly more colourful and so much cheaper. Well done.
Super Gloss Mod Podge works the best for a super glossy coat similar to what you are achieving with the embossing powder/enamel, it is relatively inexpensive and available where you find scrapbooking supplies.
I make hemp jewelry, and these can be such a great alternative to glass beads or something to mix in with the glass beads. Thanks for this video. Now I can make them even more custom since I can design the paper beads! :D
Yay! Something uo use up my papercrafting eyelets on! I hate hate hate setting eyelets [I can never get them to end up where I want them to be!] but I love papercrafting and adding beads to different projects. This way I can make exactly the bead I want to coordinate with each individual project. Love it! Thanks for sharing!
I found this video years ago and loved it. Been making beads ever since. I even hand painted some paper with watercolors and used that. I also went into Paint on my computer, put some random colors out there, printed it, and made beads with that.
Oh and I do prefer mod podge or nail polish. The embossing powder didn't work well for me. I'm not very good with it.
How it becomes glossy, what did you use?
And nine years later, I'm finding this, and loving it!
Me too!
Same here . Just got back from craft store

haha subscribed within seconds, lol I sure do love creators who put this amount of preparation and efficiency etc into their videos, thank you so much. Also, it never occurred to me that people could make their own beads, what fun!
Uh oh...looks like too much addicting fun! I think this will be great to do with my toddler when she gets a bit older, so simple and pretty! Thanks for sharing!
love this idea we got my mom a charm bracelet a few christmas's ago and this is such a great mother's day craft the kids can do to have personalized charms of paper that don't weigh down the bracelet too much love it
I have been watching many videos of making beads with paper. This is the best so far !! Thank you !!!
So pretty! Love that it actually looks like a glass bead.
What a GREAT paper bead craft!!! I love it!!! I just subscribed to your channel. Can't wait to see the next video.
Thumbs up big time. These are the most beautiful beads ever ! Thank You so much ! Love your work .
Someone told me to check out your tutorial and I'm so glad I did. I've started making bracelets and now I can make my beads as well. Thank you so much, I can't wait to get started.
+Frieda Robles thanks and welcome:)
awesome results.
Great lesson. Also, it would really help if you could add your complete supplies list in your description area. Thank you for sharing.☺👍
I would like to see what kind of glue you use and watching you do the heating of the bead would have been nice, I still do not have a clue how to make these beads. They are pretty, but you left out and important step.
Great suggestion!
Dreamy art! I had to resort to taping my pretty paper to a chopped straw then rolling up because my insides collapsed too much. Your beads are still prettier than I made.
I also use a bead roller thats 3/16 the size of the cores. Waiting for the ink now.
Well done.
They are so beautiful & look so much like glass.
Super Gloss Mod Podge works the best for a super glossy coat similar to what you are achieving with the embossing powder/enamel, it is relatively inexpensive and available where you find scrapbooking supplies.
BEAUTIFUL,CLEAR,AND GOOD FOCUSING
So cool an pretty. I love making beaded jewelry but I've never tried making my own beads.
Hi Lindsay - this is a wonderful tutorial! Inspirational~ and what a great gift idea! Thanks for sharing -
I make hemp jewelry, and these can be such a great alternative to glass beads or something to mix in with the glass beads. Thanks for this video. Now I can make them even more custom since I can design the paper beads! :D
Im in love with this! My "crafty" teenage kids love this to! Makes the best gifts for ANY occasion! JS
