I found this video years ago and loved it. Been making beads ever since. I even hand painted some paper with watercolors and used that. I also went into Paint on my computer, put some random colors out there, printed it, and made beads with that.

Oh and I do prefer mod podge or nail polish. The embossing powder didn't work well for me. I'm not very good with it.

Likewise!! I did paper beads when I was a kid in Girl Scouts! I am so happy to see this. Things stay the same…but have improved!! The embossing powder and the bead cores really add a professional touch! Thank you for this!

I used two 12" long strips for each bead, one was 1/2" wide and the other was 1/2" at one end and tapers to 1/16" roughly on the other:) roll the strait strip first then glue on the taper starting with the wide end.

Hi Lindsay! It's been 2 months since I wrote asking you for advice on the diff colors of UTEE and wow! exciting things are happening! A print shop here uses boxes of colored paper to print fliers, any rejects are tossed, I simply turn them over and cut my strips, lol. I double the length to compensate for the thin paper. I've saved my old scraps of card-stock, I use those, even mixing colors, a wide strip of one color for the first roll, another which I cut with pinking shears for texture. I detest paper waste, I want future generations to enjoy trees! Some of my UTEE colors all of which were gifted, are the solid clear, white and black, the metals - copper, gold, silver, bronze and so on as well as regular embossing powder which range in colors from summer fruits to a primary holiday palette .The paper can be any color really even old white typing paper. I have several ink colors too which I'm experimenting with. I also received my heat gun from my friend. My only expenses have been the bead cores, also $5.00, free shipping on ebay and they arrived in 5 days! wow! And I bought several colors of memory wire for $1.00 for 4.9 feet at walmart. I don't want to invest in chains and such until I'm sure of the person's preference I'm gifting to. My wonderful friend who gave me my 'treasures' was an avid crafter and now late in her 70's has decided to travel and didn't want the beautiful collection to be wasted. I know I'm rambling but I must thank you again for sharing your awesome talent, and I look forward to receiving mail from your blog, my life has become endless possibilities, who'd have known , right? Hugs!~~

thanks! I just dipped the bead back in the powder while it was hot so the new coat of powder stuck, if you wait too long you will need to add more ink:) They are water resistant, I wouldn't wear them in the tub LOL! When you glue in the bead core allow some glue to drip into the hole to seal the center of the bead and you will be all set:)

This is so awesome. I am considered disabled due to having IBC (inflammatory breast cancer) and all that comes with having cancer and I need other things to do while not getting up and going to a job. This is one of the things I can do at home. I love your energy. I always smile and chuckle while watching any of your videos. Keep doing what you do. God bless.

a hair dryer will not get hot enough, I use my heat gun everyday from drying a watercolor so I can go tot eh next step to removing hot glue strings to stamping, you will get a lot of use from it and it only costs $10-$20 at a craft store with a coupon! Hardware store have them too and they are super hot, so be careful if you go that route. You can use clear nail polish of mod-podge if you do not want to bother with the heat gun.

Abbie, Yes you can use any color but it will cover the pattern and color of your bead, you can even use multiple colors and it will be like using frit with glass, so cool! Embossing in is a slow drying sticky ink, you can use vegetable glycerin applied with a sponge in place of the ink as well:)

These are really pretty. I used to make paper beads but I did it a but differently. I would make strips like you did but out of magazine pages. I would dip the strip on white glue just like making paper mache. Then I would wrap the strip around a toothpick, you could use a small knittiing needle like you did. The I would slip it off and set it doesn't to dry. You can use clear nail polish or a clear glossy spray like in the spray paint isle. You have a lot of neat suggestions for coating them. I love your idea. I often made the beads with my children as a craft to do, I did a lot of crafts with my kids and this was a perfect project for my kids and they turned out really pretty.

haha subscribed within seconds, lol I sure do love creators who put this amount of preparation and efficiency etc into their videos, thank you so much. Also, it never occurred to me that people could make their own beads, what fun!

Two thumbs up for you Lindsay, I have three Pandora bracelets and buying the beads are very expensive. I bought some at the dollar store but you can pick them out right away, your method is much, much better

I'm a new subscriber! You just made my life so much easier in making my beads! I have a bit of a different process, but by putting the two together, it's perfect! Thank you! Looking forward to checking out more of your videos!

WHen I do my paper beads I use polyurethane. It coats inside and out. I hang them on fishing line and let them dry. I wonder if after dipping and adding the eyelets if it would have same effect. I think I will try it. Thank you for the knitting needle idea that is great. I use card stock paper also and it gives it the chunky look. I love your beads.

awesome results. thanks! Im working overseas with limited access to traditional craft supplies... so this is ideal with such professional looking results! may have to go the resin route for my finishes.. but excited to try!

Great video, Lindsay! Love those beads. I have Diamond Glaze. I’ll bet that would work too. I don’t have the jewelry end pieces, but do have some eyelets. I’ll give it a try, adjusting the knitting needle size.

I would like to see what kind of glue you use and watching you do the heating of the bead would have been nice, I still do not have a clue how to make these beads. They are pretty, but you left out and important step.

Dreamy art! I had to resort to taping my pretty paper to a chopped straw then rolling up because my insides collapsed too much. Your beads are still prettier than I made.

    They look lovely! Thank you!
I have used glue-stick as adhesive. I would use it at least at start and end of a paperstrip.
You can use some not so nice pattern in the middle part

My first time of seeing beads made. Great video and I love the beads you made, they look better than Pandora beads. Certainly more colourful and so much cheaper. Well done.

Super Gloss Mod Podge works the best for a super glossy coat similar to what you are achieving with the embossing powder/enamel, it is relatively inexpensive and available where you find scrapbooking supplies.

I make hemp jewelry, and these can be such a great alternative to glass beads or something to mix in with the glass beads. Thanks for this video. Now I can make them even more custom since I can design the paper beads! :D

Yay! Something uo use up my papercrafting eyelets on! I hate hate hate setting eyelets [I can never get them to end up where I want them to be!] but I love papercrafting and adding beads to different projects. This way I can make exactly the bead I want to coordinate with each individual project. Love it! Thanks for sharing!
