Every TF2 mercenary is surgically fitted with a brain stem clamp, that when activated at mercenary's request via nerve signals, immediately disconnects the brain stem from the rest of the body. As a result, the individual falls to the ground dead instantaneously. I asked upper management about what the purpose of the clamp is. I was under the impression it was used for the sake of self destruction in case of capture, akin to a cyanide pill. However, I could have never been prepared for when my supervisor informed me that after reconnection and redeployment, the mercenaries have been calling their acts of suicide 'Funny'.

I heard a few of the mercenaries even have an explosive device insife of them that will completely destroy their body in one big, icky mess with little collateral damage. At first I thought it was for making an example out of mercenaries that step out of line, but apparently they've co-opted that into their sick sense of humour, like the brain stem clamp you described. You'll have a group of mercs laughing at something and them immediately just fucking explode.
It's... kind of funny in a sick sort of way.

3 Medics is what i’d call the upper limit, any more and the loss of other classes is outweighing the diminishing healing and uber potential.

THIS. 640 Hrs medic main here. wholeheartedly agree.
Medic is like a tiebreaker or like he said on the video: an AMPLIFIER. That means if there's nothing to amplify in the first place, its still nothing. 0 x 1 million = still 0.
Medic really shines when both team have competent individuals, and that medic acts as the tiebreaker, either a med vs no med, or one med has higher survivability than the other team's med (or the team protects the med better)
TL;DR: I don't care if you're FROYO SH4DE himself, or Jesus coming down from heaven Himself. If your team is bad. (and the other team isn't), You're still gonna lose. (if both team are bad, back to the tiebreaker or amplifier explanation, you might still be able to shine if you adjust your playstyle, like being more passive and falling back more often cause you can't rely on those teammates to protect you, etc. etc.)
So when the imbalance is too much (like all white badge tier 1, a couple of tier 2 and 3, vs a gold badge 150 tier 8, and a couple tier 5-7), don't be a "I can fix him" med. REQUE. LEAVE!
Your time is precious. You deserve better teammates to play with. The medic himself said "my skill is wasted on this team." for a reason.
Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

Okay, I have a concept for a "weapon" for Medic (it's a medi-gun), and I guess I should present it here while we're discussing what is good and bad about Medic.
This medi-gun can allow for healing many people at once by selecting people within a specific range and having multiple beams. If only one person is within this range, all beams will converge on them and heal them even more than your average heal ray.
The drawbacks: You cannot übercharge anyone. Instead, the amount of über you have will directly increase the amount you can heal people at a time.
I want to know how balanced this would be. I am leaving the specific numbers blank because I want you guys to fill these numbers in to make it balanced.
    (hot take alert)
Anyways, people target Medic all the time. It's fine for Medic to use the Vaccinator.

@@callumbreton8930 Well, just know that Über now increases healing with this gun, and you can heal one person significantly more than your average beam.
By this feedback, I'm guessing that the beams would have to heal about 18hp per second when at 0% Über.
Now, how much would about 5% Über increase the heal rate in order to make this balanced? I was thinking about 10hp per 5%. What do you think?

Honestly medic is a class I love playing so much. Taking care to heal up teammates and give them the stamina to keep up the attack and survive what they might not otherwise and just watching an hp bar fill up gives me so much satisfaction.
I knew I had really been making the right choice when once upon a time I got autobalanced in the last 60 minutes of a dustbowl match I was playing defense's medic on and vc was immediately "oh NOW we get a good medic". I still look back to that moment with pride (fuck autobalance though)
As a medic main though, i'll say I both hate and love the vaccinator. Passively keeping an eye out to protect myself and teammates makes me feel like i'm taking an even more active role empowering someone to make more aggressive actions that would otherwise put them too much in harm's way, and I like being able to turn almost any class into a much more defensively-capable entity. But playaing against it... it's so gross. Its like having the enemy pop a whole uber on you except ten times as disposeable. Feels more like you had your entire life there wasted at the cost of 25% the enemy medic's uber, which they'll regain in a few seconds anyway because of the ridiculous build rate vaccinator has. It... just takes too much teamwork to be overrun, teamwork pubs just don't have, which make it feel cringeworthy and sweaty to deal with in casual.
As much as I do like it as a result of how it feels to _put up with_ I generally hold a karmic sort of belief over it, and don't use it unless its a really particular situation calling for it (enemies wont kick a bot or cheater or are spamming heavies, etc...)

    1. Be situationally aware. Heal your whole team, but in combat prioritize those who can clean the enemy fastest. Get pocketed only when aiming for űber charge breakthrough, or when alone with your pocket.
    2. Learn to shoot with your syringe guns. They are deadly when you actually deliver most of the projectiles to the target.
    3. Stay hidden or move constantly in random patterns.
    4. Be unpredictable. There is nothing more satisfying than slipping and capping intel as medic. Many players do not expect medic to do these things and that is why it sometimes goes under their radar.
    5. Be patient, do not expect to be top at the leaderboard. Just help your team and suddenly you may find yourself on top 3 through the shit ton of assists (remember, situational awarness).

I'm a Medic Main. Do you know what we do? Healing is good and all, but really, it's always about the Ubercharge in the end. Medic takes that stagnancy and breaks it in half. Suddenly the enemy team is running for their lives while an invincible Demoman is plowing through their defenses. That is a high of power that no class can match. Medic is the strongest; he has to be. Imagine if you gave Soldier this kind of stalemate-breaking ability. Everyone would only play Soldier! Medic's sheer vulnerability in face-to-face combat is what makes him being the overall strongest class tolerable.
And honestly let's be real playing Medic sucks, every incompetent error of your team stands out tenfold. You need that power or no one would play him and TF2 degenerates to a slog.
That's not to say healing is useless, but Ubercharge is the heart and soul of Medic gameplay.
"You are a god. Destroy them."
    Re: Crusader's Crossbow.
OP? Probably. Reduce the ammo count to 20 and I think we're good. Every other Syringe Gun promotes braindead Medic gameplay of hiding and healing like coward. Boring. Fuck that! I am not a coward, I play Medic, the strongest, I do not play to hide behind Heavies! The Crusader's Crossbow promotes thinking, not stupidity, bravery, not cowardice. Its damage output is pathetic too. Really its only issue is that even if you're pulling a Crusader's Combo Heal, you never run out of Ammo. The Crusader's Combo Technique is borderline OP and you shouldn't be able to do it on a dime. You think about when to pull that Crusader's Combo Heal, does that Heavy really need to win that fight? It's too easy at current. Cut ammo in half.
    Re: Ubersaw and Solemn Vow
They're equally good in Pubs. Assuming every class is at full health is a strategy that creates inefficiency. The Solemn Vow skips that inefficiency.
    Re: Vaccinator
    Oh boy, this thing...
Love-Hate relationship. Let's put it that way. The Vaccinator is a fundamentally tactical weapon that helps in tactical engagement. It's not a strategic weapon, but in a game like TF2, good tactics beats good strategy. It's annoying to fight as fuck and it's overpowered. But goddamn it's so fun. The only reason I don't want it nerfed is the anger I face when I play against this thing is nothing compared to the power I feel when the Demoman with a Kritz Girlfriend who thinks he's hot shit eats 100 bullets from a Gibus Heavy and dies.
If I have one thing to say to my colleagues, my fellow Medic Mains: If you want to play Kritz, that's fine. But your girlfriend Soldier is going to die when I explosive bubble the Gibus Heavy.

This is going to get me a lot of flack, but while I think medic is the best designed healer class in any game period, I think healer classes are bad game design. Having the flow of a match be determined by a class most people pick our of obligation, or not pick at all because they don't have fun with the class is bad. Sure there are people that like medic, but you have to admit they are quite the minority of players and so you end up with a lot of matches decided not by any other factor but which team has more players who like playing medic. Everyone knows you can technically win a pub by having like 3 medics and a bunch of power classes because the other team isn't going to do that. On top of all of this, medic can be very annoying for one reason, the vaccinator. The vaccinator can be used in two ways, it can be used to shut down a server with a small population because they can't effectively attack with every damage type, or it can be used to just shut out the top damage dealer on the enemy team because most pubs have like... 3 good people per team so you just kind of set it to their resistances so they can't play the game making their team lose for free. I don't like the idea of weapons that LITERALLY shut out people from playing the game, it isn't fun and is really stupid in a game designed around the idea that most of your teammates will be useless. If it wasn't obvious medic... and also the gunboats but otherwise I have no fundamental issues with soldier, are the two things I hate in TF2 which is an odd combination I guess.

@@BasicallyGoblin However, we both need to consider one factor. What is the actual population metric of players that enjoy healing in games. I myself am going to look into studies because I think that is the determining factor here. My claim before I do this is such, I believe the amount of players that fill your preference are a massive minority. My reason for my claim? Every single game with a mandatory healing class always has a problem with finding someone who actually plays healer.

@@UsingGorillaLogic so only have popular classes because they're popular? That's stupid.

    • @UsingGorillaLogic
      @UsingGorillaLogic 2 роки тому

@@BasicallyGoblin No, design classes to be popular and useful. You can have unpopular classes if they aren't mandatory or have niche purpose like the heavy does. The issue is that the medic is unpopular AND the most important class in the game so rather than playing him to have fun, it feels like you have a gun pointed to your head forcing you to play him. The closest example to that in this game is engineer being basically mandatory on payload/attack defense defense, but at least there you only need one and he is JUST popular enough that it never becomes a problem. You can't force a disliked character type to be a good design by just making them mandatory that just pisses people off.
The point I am making is this, having the most liked classes be irrelevant and having one of the least liked... to play classes be mandatory is very very bad design. medic is one of the few relics of the design philosophy team fortress has tried to avoid. demoman was going to have a c4 that could destroy structures letting teammates pass, but the problem is nobody wanted to do it so it became a matter of people forcing someone else to do it. They removed that mechanic to avoid the same issues medic has today. Medic is a class that on average is picked when someone is forced to do it by their teammates because nobody else feels like it.

The solemn vow is surprisingly useful when defending yourself and lets you make wayyy better decisions when it comes to running away or not. Pair this with the crossbow and you can actually get some kills on low enemies even when you're with your team, as you can take a pot shot at that 45 health soldier getting outta there, instead of other enemies drawing your attention. Ubersaw is great and all but my playstyle specifically doesn't really stay in melee range, so the ubersaw does nothing. Using the aputator instead is also good, but if you're playing smart and keeping near enough health and you don't need the extra regen and the damage penalty is rough when it does come into play, if you have another medic you don't need the regen either.

  • @mr.tatortot6469

The crossbow having 40 shots tips it over the edge of being over-tuned as it takes longer for you to shoot 20 bolts that it takes for a medium ammo pack to respawn; which is effectively infinite ammo. Having infinite ammo it means that the medic isn't punished for missing nearly as much as he should as you can just try again 39 more times. The ammo should be reduced to no more than 15 as at that point the crossbow has a high likely hood of running out and also psychologically slows down the medic as the individual shots are much more valuable so the medic wouldn't want to waste a shot to heal someone who has like 30 HP missing.
and with the ubersaw it is one of the few weapons that doesn't abide by trickle-down balancing (where if its balanced for the highest levels of play then its balanced for everything beneath it) as in comp, players are more capable of avoiding and punishing attempted saws but in pubs, jo.schmo.2008 isn't able to which lets the medic get uber for barely any risk. The only way this could be fixed to abide by TDB is if the uber on hit had a cooldown so in comp you'd still get the same amount of uber and in pubs the ubersaw can't farm uber for free.

you're better off playing huntsman sniper if you can shoot crossbows that good. The crossbow doesnt have headshots exactly for tha reason. it makes medic a buy 1 get 3 free sniper without a "fuck you spy shield". Th crossbow is for situations like these:
Your heavy is at 20 health and you're too far away to use a uber. and he's manically running into a choke involuntarily. you shoot a bolt and pull out the medigun. the 125 heal makes the heavy survive a shotgun shell and you pop the uber. This is the Ubermensch, the Ubermedic, the Uberteammate.
Your heavy is taking damage, a lot and combat healing is SLOW. so you hit a crossbow while they reload. This makes their fight assymetric and yours favorable.
Someone is going to get hit by pipes and without bolts they die, instantly. The stock medigun cant help most of the times.
The other medic is busy infront with a medigun so you 1) cov3r his ass from spies and 2) heal the ones who need instant heal (Taking heavy damage, Just came out of a fight going for a far dispenser, queuing besides dispensers etc)
Scorch shit annoying snipers from unwanted sightlines (a crit is terrifying)
Your pocket is currently way up, going to die from fall damage and you do the manliest quick draw 🗿🗿🗿🗿
doctors can never have too much medicine, so 40 shots are based

    • @RelatedNameHere
      @RelatedNameHere 2 роки тому +3

As much as people like to say the crossbow is a really good offensive option its worse than basically every other offensive option that every other class has because of the wacky ways the projectile interacts with lag. Any medic whos just jumping around spamming crossbow bolts at people to the point where it's ammo pool becomes a serious buff is an absolutely doghsit medic. Also the punishment for missing a shot is that you aren't doing your main roll and healing people (saying this as a medic main); the enemy team outputs a certain amount of DPS and it's your job to offset that DPS by healing, missing crossbow shots slows down your healing a ton. Think about it as risk vs reward, the entire process of switching to the crossbow, shooting, switching back and starting to heal again takes ~1.5 seconds, which is 36 health you could've given with the stock medigun. You aren't going to be hitting moving targets much beyond point blank range because the bolt travels slowly (and I swear to god he shoots the bolt out of his crotch or something, I have never understood where the hell that thing shoots from even after hundreds of hours with it) and a point blank hit is 75 health, or about twice what you'd be able to heal. A long range shot heals more, but has more travel time that requires the target to stand still before and after the shot which puts them at a huge risk of the enemy team noticing and shooting the large stationary target. Effectively using a crossbow requires a team that understand how it works (which the average player doesn't) and an enemy team that won't punish you for trying to use it (which most will because "shoot the guy standing still" is a pretty easy thing to do). tl;dr if you think the crossbow is op it's because you're bad at countering medics because it really isn't hard to shut down with heads up play.
Also "the ubersaw should be nerfed because really bad players don't know how to punish aggressive medics" is absolutely terrible logic that you could use to argue for literally any weapon that encourages aggression. Nerfing medics few aggressive options just turns him into Mercy without wings and makes him entirely reactive which is miserable to play.
