Gordon Ramsay on The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos

- Опубліковано 9 лют 2009
- Gordon Ramsay started his professional life with the Glasgow Rangers, in the Scottish premier soccer league. Kitchens and cooking weren't even on his radar until a knee injury ended his career. After making the switch from soccer to fine dining, he worked his way up in British and French restaurants. By 26, he was running his own kitchen and around that time, Britain's Channel 4 produced a documentary on Gordon called 'Boiling Point.' That opened the door to a TV career, that started with 'Kitchen Nightmares.' Then, there was 'Hell's Kitchen' and now his latest - 'The F-Word.' Along the way, Gordon built an empire. He became a multi-millionaire, with dozens of restaurants around the world and he's written more than 10 books. His most recent is called 'Gordon Ramsay's Healthy Appetite.'

He mentioned Araxi in Whistler. That will be the prize for the 6th Season winner of Hell's Kitchen.
I love this interviewer. He is incredible - so genuine, such a great listener and conversationalist!
am15101900 You’re right I know this is eight years later when you wrote your comment but wow George is really good at his job he’s been around on much music and so many other shows but I think this is his real calling and he’s so good at it!
George is one of the people Canadians are universally proud of.
I love to meet him one day, Gordon Ramsay is amazing.
he is one of my biggest influences... The guy came out of nothing, and he has gotten to where he is by going above and beyond even when it comes to washing a toilet. I love the man
Best host ever! All the other hosts AROUND THE WORLD seem to so boring but not this guy. He's so focused and a great listener
Strombo does great interviews.
you may say whatever about gordon as a person but damn that dude can cook. the books he has written are truely amazing
What a beautiful approach to animals. I think it's nice to have the luxury to raise your own animals and eat them knowing and having control of the process. People don't realize how humane this really is
Yeah we'll see if you still feel that way the day a Cannibal moves into your neighborhood. There's nothing humane about killing an animal then eating it.
This guy is a great interviewer. Parkinson eat your heart out :P
Great interview! Keep preaching the good word on good food!
well spoken
Gotta say that I was pretty sceptical during the intro stuff, which clearly influences the audience in advance of the interview. (Many of the viewers` comments seem to support this pre-conceived viewpoint.)
Surprise, surprise! What an excellent interview. The banter flies between George and Gordon right from the start. Hilarious!
Clearly they have met before or at least spent time shooting the shit together and have a measure of each others ways. Intelligent, witty and very quick banter throughout, plus plenty of time to put across more serious thoughts and ideas. No feeling of ramming some kind of promotion down your neck either.
Very refreshing really when taking into account all the times that Gordon has been set up by TV companies in order to get some kind of cheap-shot ratings boost.
Great job George! Don`t need to say that I`m a Gordon supporter, huh.
Came across another interviewer too, by the name of Jian Ghomeshi, who was also very good. (I know that I`m way behind the times but so what eh.)
Love this guy!!
Because he's destined for greatness whatever endeavour he pursues will be great. Bonne appetite
My cousin and his wife did for their anniversary I think. They loveded it.
Nice vid
I saw him on City Tv last night, he seems to be a complete gentleman outside the US based show.
what if gordan ramsay meet jackie chan?
"wtf are you doing your not cooking it right"
jackie chan: "shut up!" *kick*
Lol, Knowing Chan's knack for using everything around him as a weapon, the kitchen is the worst place to piss him off.
Cassius Allen lol I agree never attack Jackie Chan in a kitchen
Hahaha funny comment ever :-D
al rod you should write screenplays
al rod I would love to attend your idea for a film. Thank you!
"You fucking doughnut" is probably the best insult ever.
Im from Ottawa, and ive been to both cities...I prefer Toronto's food, but monreal food isnt bad
"IT'S DRY! MAKE IT AGAIN!"
"I'm sooo sorry. sorry sorry sorry, chef."
Ramsay, my new hero.
I don't have anything against Toronto. I'm just thrilled Gordon Ramsay is actually have a restaurant there! IN CANADA!
It was the Laurier, and he was a consultant in the renovation, however, he and the owners had a falling out about what that exactly meant, and his name was removed from the restaurant's masthead last year. It may be a while before he expands into Canada again (and it will probably be Toronto or Vancouver next time).
More information about Ramsey and the Rangers came out in March of 2009 while this video was taped before that. So the information was simply not available at the time of the interview.
@Kristian2006
I can see the marketing now. "Coming this fall; hell freezes over in Hell's Kitchen Canada"
He's more the kind of person that people love to hate.
Timely to watch this now with the recent passing of Mandela.
Jonathan Mahoney Why....?
So does he have a restaurant in Toronto yet?
what team
9 people preferred *Toby Proctor
*The Man who provided the Voice for Darien Shields AKA Tuxedo Mask
I never noticed that Gordon's wrinkles seem to be softer until you said so. If it doesn't grab everyones attention I don't think it matters! Gordon has always been a handsome man, and he looks really great here. He looks more his age.
This is an example of why some people don't like Gordon Ramsay. He started out the interview insulting the host by telling him he needs to loose weight. George was gracious, but I think it sort of threw him off. No one should be talked to that way, especially on national televison. Gordon is a course rude bully. I don't care how talented he is, he doesn't deserve to be looked to as an example of success.
hes got a goggles tanline :D
um ya think. way to put it together champ.
@7domaju7 I think he's a fantastic interviewer. Honestly he's the most knowledgeable and passionate that I've seen since forever. Nobody should dog on George, he knows what the fuck he's doing, and he has the respect of who he interviews.
i have had alligator in a louisiana style restaurant and it was delicious , it was lightly breaded and had a white sauce dip on the side with the peppers and garlic to set it off, ..not bad , its tender and tasted similar to sirloin , also had it grilled on charbroiler[ shakespears in hamilton ] wow , served with a side of pickerell and fries..
keep up old timer , this aint the 40's anymore
Talking about the ultimate case of a dude who, with the right connections, made a name for hiself for absolutely no reason at all...
Ramsey is what I call a professional troll. He can also cook.
dont forget edmonton ramsay, you open up a restaraunt here ill be first in line
Or Calgay.
THE CHICKEN IS RAW
lol
we call it football because it is football.
Don't you think Gordon looks like John C Reilly? That guy from Stepbrothers?
Was Ramsay dressed up as a Hanson brother for this episode?
It's just the atmosphere at the show. They are not shocked. Canadian social culture is full of nothing but humour. The difference I think is that Canadians tend to pay a lot more attention to what is being said in formal settings such as this. They like to be intellectually engaged and observatory where as American social culture tends to be a bit more shallow and its easier to spark emotions such as laughter, anger, or sadness, which spills over into entertainment.
i know
wow
That question doesn't even make sense. But to answer anyway the point would be for Canadians who watch George's show to learn more about Gordon as a person. As well as learning about his most recent book. Essentially the point of every interview like this...
Glasgow Rangers man well in Gordon WATP!!!!
Why Toronto first?! MONTREAL IS WHERE THE FOOD IS AT!
Has anyone ever eaten at one of his restaurants?
hes a lot nicer outside the kitchen XD
oh shit ramsay rocking those true religion jeans LOL
I think he's insinuating that there are tons of different looking people in Canada that are accepted and that outsiders wouldn't understand.
gordan ramsay's name seems really cool, wish that was my name
I'm pretty sure Boiling Point was on the BBC not Channel 4
Yeah me too
i swear i used to watch boiling point on channel 4 in the day (bleeped of course)
I figured even if he didn't care about the question, or it's answer, someone else might and maybe they would benefit from an actual answer. The attack of me afterwards was actually kind of surprising, as well as ignorant, defamatory, and useless. But since it hardly takes a lot of effort, and because it could help clear thinks up for some (although probably not mrphuckbud himself) I decided to respond again and clarify. No harm in trying, and it's nice to be nice.
George IS vegetarian. Vegan specifically.
that sucks he interupted him at five forty five, shoulda let him talk and use a pad for questions that come on the fly
... LMFAO, I've personally eaten crocodile and ostrich, and they're actually pretty good.
I know, somebody's gonna get me for making that comment XD
Yes I'm mad. 10 years late sorry
I'm actually missing the chin wrinkles! I'm stunned!
I LOVE CANADA!!!!
This meat is so rare... I threw a Masterball at it!
Well that's also when he's working - he didn't make that up for TV, but yeah I'm sure it's exagerated for it sometimes.
Hot and great chef who doesn't want him in his kitchen
yeah he's not bad for a hothead
@laughingisfun26 Seriously... I didn't even say it was always cold. Some people act so strangely on the internet.
alligator is very good …………………..like pork chops
Rob Riches
donwooss ahhahaha
WANGSANGWEECH
Ted Nuggent rocks! HAHA =o)
i would like to try croc or alligator meat lol
I've had frog legs, is it kinda like that?
timlamiam frogs are gross....
timlamiam It's better. Clearer. Just as lean. But it probably depends where you go. I had it very spicy and fried and liked it just fine. Gordon's missing out.
cool, I really like frog. My grandmother makes this awesome stew with frog legs lol. I wonder how to get croc meat up here in Canada lol.
timlamiam Not easily. I had mine in Florida and don't imagine it would be easy to get it elsewhere.
tisk tisk I stumbled on the 'g' on my laptop, who cares. It's no big deal. =oP
What have you got against Marco? Marco is also an advocate of 'great tasting home cooking'; he constantly reccomends knorr stock cubes, for fucks sake! Marco doesn't cook anymore because he is RETIRED. But before that, he was a total workaholic, he even used to sleep in his restaurants, on the floor, in the early days. I dunno, you just seem to have a bug up your arse about him and are looking for ways to vent.
@funkychicken93
I'm kinda proud of being 'en dansker' ;)
stroumboulopoulos..??.....sounds like a Dr suess character
Or a Greek dude.
hes canadian
if he has facelifts with a wrinkled leather bag head like that then he should fire his surgeon.
The only thing I have against such chefs is how they hate vegetarians and feel some how more moral and righteous in killing and eating literally any animal. I'm glad my brother is a vegetarian chef.
The Anti-Theist Vegetables suck
Ryan Morton Most do, you are right. I never said they were really tasteful..
The Anti-Theist I eat the best of both worlds, win win.
Its an old joke betweem them, it was an inside thing. Hes been on the show before.
There's a lot of product in him. For a man who brought out a book about eating healthy he has so much artificial colouring and preservatives in him.
Kudos to him though for not putting his name on an inferior product.
what part of his question doesn't make sense? what doesn't make sense to me is why anyone would respond to his comment like you did. strong example of someone being completely socially inept.
Been a while so I doubt you still care but I'm fairly sure his point was that George has been well known in Canada for a very long time, and therefore if that thought crossed your mind during this interview you must not be familiar with George, and thus must not be Canadian.
@laughingisfun26 You're a nice guy.
@funkychicken93 But Ramsay never did. He played two non-league matches for Oxford utd as a trialist and played one non league match for Rangers again as a trialist. He was never a professional footballer. I like Ramsay's shows, but he has constantly lied about his football career.
@7domaju7 Still not my favourite interviewer. There are some who can either check their opinions at the door or make them very clear and plain. Strombo unfortunately does neither. In fairness, his interview of Sarah Palin was remarkably good.
Ramsay never had "a stint with the Glasgow Rangers". It would be nice if Strombo actually did real research instead of just parroting sound bytes and wrong info. Good conversation, but a lot of the questions were definitely inane.
So, in other words Gordon, they learned to respect animals by buttering them up so you could slaughter them. That's a terrific lesson in compassion for your children.
@laughingisfun26 I live in Canada. I know its not always cold. Recognize a joke.
OMFG!! He HAS had Botox! Where is his chin wrinkles? Hes chin does not move as much now! His forehead actually looks rather smooth for him!
@Kristian2006 I'd apply just to be kicked out of the kitchen! (My brother would probably win!)
Noel Fielding isn't a big star here and his sense of humour may not translate well to our audiences. We have had several great stand up come from Canada before though. Norm Macdonald, Stewart Francis (who is big in England now), Harlen Ellison, Jim Carrey, Martin Short and comedic actors too like the entire SCTV and Kids in the Hall casts. Our sense of humour is safely intact but it is also culturally distinctive and different from other commonwealth nations.
why not ostrich? emu is a cousin to ostrich, and makes for very heart healthy meat, and other products, like emu oil, soap etc...I'd rather have ostrich than the bull's testicles they had on masterchef usa a couple years back.
Did I hear he has a restaurant in Montreal? I wonder how that 'on the menu only if in season within 100 miles' policy, working in Canada? hmm....
umm...rite..
and where do you live? saskatoon?
That orange forehead tho. That
simon cowell?
I used to like Gordon a lot more but now I can't really be bothered with him - I'd rather watch Marco Pierre White.
Ramsay never played for Rangers F.C. He had a trial with them he never played for them. Rangers F.C = Shame of Scotland.
