Larry King is a broadcasting institution.
Tens of thousands of interviews, more than half a century on the air.
The famous and the infamous, the scandal-plagued and the powerful - they've all told their stories to Larry.
As a kid, Larry dreamed of working in radio, but didn't have the grades to go to college.
So, he hoofed it to Miami at 22 and landed a gig doing odd-jobs at a small radio station.
When an announcer walked off the job, Larry ended up on-air for the first time.
That was May 1st, 1957.
Over the next decade, he built his reputation - interviewing the likes of Jackie Gleason, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King.
But Larry was a gambler and a big spender and in the early 70's he plead no contest to passing bad cheques.
But Laryy bounced back - eventually landing a national late night radio call-in show.
That led to his move to TV and the launch of 'Larry King Live' in 1985.
The show was a hit and Larry became one of CNN's first stars.
But it hasn't always been easy - in '87, he suffered a life-changing heart attack and over the years he's been married seven times to six women - with kids ranging in age from 8 to 50.
He tells the whole story in his new autobiography 'My Remarkable Journey.'
RIP Larry. The greatest American interviewer with the greatest Canadian interviewer.
Like this show, where a host actually respects his guests and never interupts nor talks over his guests. Class.
"Said Larry " I never learned anything when I was talking."
The is one of a few interviews I have seen of George Stroumboulopoulos, he is very talented and very intelligent.
Strombo and the Hour blow other late night talk format away. Truly groundbreaking. Canada is proud of you George.
i love watching interviewers interview interviewers! Especially when it's two amazing guys like this.
its the Master and the Apprentice~ Larry King truly one of the best interviewers.. I admire him very much~
Great interview
Gotta pick up the book for sure
what an amazing interview
what a great interview!! i love george!!
I couldn't agree with you more!! Larry King is my hero!! I want to be a broadcaster just like him. I JUST finished his new book and it is wonderful and I have his Greatest Interviews DVD ever!!!
great interview.
amazing story about king
2 years since your passing, Rest in peace dear sweet Larry
Always on our hearts ❤
Such excellent banter. Great interview
No one can replace Larry King :)
Wow, that is one awesome interview.
King is an inspiration.
because he's such a good interviewer. he truly is one of the best.
Kudos to the booker/ booking dept who line up unbelieveable guests. I don't know what they say, or how they do it. Even the languished TV show "Open MIc with Mike Bullard" couldn't do it.
love larry
big accomplishment george!
George is so handsome
The JFK story was amazing.
I wish I knew who uploaded that video of George Strombolopolous interviewing Al Pacino, since, whenever I try watching that video now, it says 'This video is private'. I commented on said video, on Al's birthday this year. I'm a fan of Al Pacino (unless, whoever did upload it, has given permission to some users to see it, and all comments are still there).
King asks the first question - lolz
RIP Larry King.
true-great interview, especially for a wannabe actor such as I. Ed Norton interview is still my fave though
I know some people who've met him, who say he's a sincerely nice guy.
Rip larry
I agree 100%
The show will be using the same format as the Hour. Live studio audience, one on one interviews. Pretty much same show as the CBC show.
I guess our loss will become your gain so to speak. I have to think, the show will be successful and they'll sign him for long term.
holy crap it's the King...on The Hour
excelente!!! Gente boa por estes lados, nâo???
cudos to strombo - good job
Actually CNN has just hired George for a new 10 part show
Larry's going to be gone soon. I would love to see Stroumbo to get his show!
NO JOKE! I WAS THINKING THE EXACT SAME THING ABOUT THE LAST NAME! most people in Hollywood change there names if theyre too long and difficult to pronounce!
George has his pros and cons. He's very personable, respectful, and--unlike a lot of interviewers--doesn't interupt his interviewees often.
However, a lot of the time I'm looking for a deeper line of questioning. This is especially clear when George has political figures on his show. He is either not knowledgable about political issues, or is trying to shape his show towards people who aren't politically savvy.
Other than his lack of knowledge and eloquence, he's a great guy to watch.
The Hour is hands down the best Canadian talk show. Even though George Stroumboulopoulos is a bit of a douche he's a great interviewer.
I am entertained
why the hell isn't strombo taking over for larry king. he's too much of a talent to not be exposed to the american audience
My friends and I laugh at people who talk about reptiles and things like that. They are so funny. So yeah.... keep saying things ;)
First of all, what is wrong with a douche, it keeps folks clean and not stinky. Secondly, I've met the man twice, and he is down to earth and a gentleman. He is nice to service people, not like some folks in Hollywood. As long as he keeps his head from getting big - - because a lot of folks are courting him, he should do well. Stay as you are George, you are a sweetie!
Well the fact that they get high ratings tell you something. They are quality entertainment. But they are more frivolous than The Hour, or even The Daily Show type shows.
George Strombo and Dave Rubin have similar sounding voices
Well I don't think you can compare them. Letterman/Conan is about comedy, this is about conversation.
george will go down as canadas larry king.... larry was far better on his own on nite talk radio in the 70s 80s
Holy Shit. I remember Geogres when he hosted loud, I sent a letter to Much sayin' to get rid of him cuz he talked to much and didn't play enough music lol. I acctaully met him once at the Exhibition probably 2004'ish I saw and him and was like" hey George can we get some pictures?" he was really cool about it. My buddy walked up to him to shake his hand and went "Holy Shit" LOL.He's come a long way since loud; I mean when you interveiw Larry King ....thats big.
You asked for George, you got Piers. Life isn't fair.
Stroumboulopoulos means "fattie" in Greek :)
King's voice is so bassy.
I used to watch George a lot. But then I got addicted to Alex Jones and Jason Bermas (look 'em up). Now I watch George rarely, but he's still cool sometimes.
what did he say to larry at 4:23 ?
wheres the bio? :(
Cool, do you know the subject matter?
Larry has a gangster lean.
Wow I just heard of this George guy. Very very cool. And SMOKIN" hot! :-)
Watch him on Craig Ferguson. You'll freak out!
@valerie8stars his mother is ukranian and his father is a greek man from egypt.
OW MY GAWD! This guy got creepy right!
HAHAHA! man i love Larry!
VIDEO GAMES DESIGNERS !!!! YEAH I'M TALKING TO YOU !!
IMMORTALIZE THAT IN MASS EFFECT 2
People in show business? I think you're not getting it AT ALL. People in show business couldn't care less. The opposite, probably: if Larry Zeiger pulled more viewers with that name, he would have kept it. They would have renamed Johnny Carson "Trotski Stalin Lenin" and Jimmy Fallon "Mohammad Saddam Hussein bin Laden" if they thought it would have helped the ratings only a bit. It's the VIEWERS who are the problem. Especially in the fifties, they wouldn't universally accept Larry's real name.
Masula Falls, hello....
Haha not really, that's why the Hour is the best, no real competition.
i thought that when he said they offered to change his name it would be for the reason that its so damn long, but when he said ethnic I thought that was mean. Plus Stroumboulopoulos is way cooler, I will always remember that but I will definitely forget the name George Jefferson.
Wow, Larry looks different here. He's almost likeable, now. LOL.
wtf whith his shoulder?
Well, his name is :P
with a name like Stroumboulopoulos.....what'd you expect.
You know much music once had a contest and the callenge of the contest was to correctly spell Georges last name it was pretty funny.
If that was the case think about it... Norma Jean Baker. Shakespear once said "What's in a name?" Anyone know who Norma Baker is? :)
@PHOSPAL well, his parents were jewish and he is of jewish heritage but religiously speaking he's agnostic.
George should replace Larry.
Lots of smoking I believe.
@xxxbmxerxxx1 that doesn't many ANY sense. Please rephrase your rant, this time using punctuation and actual words.
@cocolike1 lol
I can't believe this Strombo guy is so popular. Even the way he sits annoys me lol. I saw his interview with Dave Mustaine, never heard of him before this and now I see that a lot of big names go to talk with this muppet, why?!
niether of them have very deep voices, generally men in radio have masculine voices
I only clicked on this because of the guys ridiculous last name.
George is cute!
