If we all self-examined ourselves as well as Dr Peterson describes the psyche - we'd all find a way to work towards a positive result in our lives. He's the best psychoanalyst of the Modern Age. This man has taught me more about life than life itself has. To be able to dissect the most mundane of everyday thought processes and experiences and be self-aware of my own actions is the path to self-mastery. This man is creating a generation of critical thinkers.
I suggest your broaden your experience of psychoanalysts. This man is driven by Jungian myths and reactionary thinking. He doesn't properly recognise the effects of social evolution and conditioning. The message I got from my father is that I’m basically a no good piece of excrement. This is the idea I struggle with even today, decades later. It’s also something that prevents confrontation with bullies. My inner voice basically doubts my abilities to do anything right.
My father is a narcissist. My whole life I've only known him as someone who brings people down. As a kid, especially during times where I needed to help him on things (such as construction or physical labor) he would yell at me for making minor mistakes. He has insulted me and other family members and has threatened/acted on physical violence. I have given him a chance on attempting to be reasonable but I've learned he is not a reasonable person but instead only understands emotions. One reason I have to help him is because I am afraid he will take his anger on someone else in my family if I refuse and run away. My mother cannot find a job so I feel obligated to stay home rather than move out with roommates. As a kid, I learned to deal with his tyrannical attitude by complying and not standing up for myself. Combined with his treatment towards me + the social rejection I've dealt with at school I have become a spineless coward. I care about what other people are thinking more than I care about myself. I am a doormat who is afraid of conflict. And as of recently turning 21, it's only a realization that I am on a destructive path with my current addictions that I've had for the past 8-9 years. I have no self-respect and I see myself in the same situation for another 9 years. I haven't had a real friend in the same time period as well. For there was one time I left myself vulnerable and faced social rejection, and ever since then I haven't allowed myself to become vulnerable again. I have lived in my shell ever since then, afraid of what others are thinking of me. As a way of coping, I have thought of embracing the idea of living alone somewhere in the mountains someday. But I realize it doesn't have to be that way if I don't want it to be that way. I am still lost for there seem to be so many contradicting ways of handling things in life. I've known Jordan Peterson for a while but it's only recently I've been listening to his lectures a bit more seriously. For many years I've wanted to become physically fit but was afraid of joining the gym or exercising outside due to my insecurity of being laughed or bullied. I've tried alternative ways of dealing with this but have only become unmotivated and inconsistent. All of my alternative ways have been cowardly, rather than confronting my fear/the problem head on. And Jordan's story of overcoming the fear of elevators is how I'm going to approach my fear of exercising outside. Because the safe path I've been taking for several years has not worked at all. I've learned that the only way to truly thrive is have no choice but to take that problem head on. I will feel vulnerable and ready to suffer but it's the only way to become stronger. Additionally, my addiction to video games and internet browsing is a form of escapism to my real world problems. Another part of why I was afraid of change was because I was afraid of quitting video games even though I genuinely like playing them. But I realize that my focus needs to be on my problems (such as procrastination, school, physical fitness, etc.) now rather than eagerly waiting to play video games every time I am done with class or work. I don't plan to abandon video games but I plan to not put them top priority anymore. And I hope as I watch more Jordan Peterson videos I learn something new everyday and apply it to improving my life.

This is good but it's too simplistic. You cannot confront a bully with the view they will back down, it won't happen if it's a malicious bully. You see a bully is not someone who makes a mistake and offends you, no it's a person that hates you and is out to get you, so make sure you get you definition of a bully right. When you confront a real bully, it is like fuelling them with more hate and determination to make you pay. Bullies are NOT stupid! They are highly intelligent! They do what they do because they are confident. I'm just being realistic, this is the real world not a story book with a happy ending. The only way to win is to hold your head up high and walk away, but not before making it clear to everyone WHY you are walking away. That's the ONLY option that keeps you in the driver seat. Don't waste your life trying to outsmart a bully, step aside to something more worthwhile, find people that respect you and value your hard work and honest commitment. It's taken me too long to realise this but this is now my strategy. If someone messes me about and I think they are malicious im out of there before you can blink.
I had an 8th grade science that the kids would always torment and bully. He was always on the edge of a breakdown. The last straw was when they stole something important from him. He let everybody know that he was leaving the school and why. Even after he left, some of the kids would mock him. But 20 years later, I found out that he is now the principal of a prestigious school in California. I am pretty sure that he got the last laugh.
@@DwyaneWadeCounty When you meet malicious people, they are people with an incurable illness called bitterness. These are people that you cannot afford to be around, i'm not talking about grumpy or moody people or even people who annoy you often, i'm talking about toxic hate filled bullies who have made you their target. The best thing is to give them what they want and remove yourself, consider them a poison to your health and wellbeing, it's the only definite remedy I know that will work or have the largest impact of change in your life. I too had the last laugh, I was bullied to the point of a horrible mental breakdown but being a large public government organisation they were forced to retire me through ill health, I am now retired and have a pension I can live on. If they had not bullied me I would still be there grinding my life away for them. Good things can come from the darkest of circumstances, as a christian I give all the glory to God who worked all things together for good. If I ever work again, I will NEVER tolerate bullying ever again and neither should anyone.
